Hello All,
Me being a noob, I wanted to know what happen when I update a rooted phone. Am I going to keep all the programs and settings that I have? or everything is going to get erased and its going to be like I got a new phone and need to reinstall all the programs and settings? Or that everything is going to be kept, but will not work until the new update can be rooted, and when it is re-rooted, everything is going to be back to normal? I was thinking about the effectiveness of using the titanium backup if I'm going to update the phone and that the program needs root permission to work. Thanks for the help!
make a backup?
re-root.
What should i use to.make backup?? Titanium backup? But i thought that program needs root to work
use default program to backup, ''backup and restore''
oh no... i uninstalled that..... anyways I can get it back?
2.1 System Apps/Framwork | 2.0.2.A.0.24 | - In Case You've Deleted Them...
I'm kind of a super noob to this phone ( and the smart phone technology).... so can you please elaborate on your previous reply? Thanks =]
if you have a rooted phone already just install Xrecovery by Z, search for it. that way you can just reboot when you see sony ericsson white letters, hit back button 11 times it will give you a bootscreen where you can do a backup. After you backup then you can update to a newer version if you choose too. once you update to a newer version, you then go back to xrecovery choose backup restore then advanced restore then select just the data folder it should restore all your apps etc..

Thanks for this! I just backup my phone using this method! I did a backup using Titanium but this one is an extra precaution. Thanks!
thank you sir! Will try it this weekend!
I just installed xRecovery Installer... and when I go into the xrecovery installer icon, and press install xrecovery, my phone asked for root rights, and after I give permission nothing happened... Is there going to be a new icon for xrecovery or its just a program that runs in the background and will not add an extra icon? Thanks!

Will re-installing xrecovery after the update have any effect on the backup I did prior to the update? Wont the update delete my previous xrecovery and hence my backups? Sorry to bombard with questions, but I just need to make sure that I know what I'm doing. Thanks!

No, it will not have an affect on your backup because that is stored in the Sdcard. So you should be good.
Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it!
Full N00b here ...
I want to Flash the CM 6.1.3 V4.5.7 on my X10,
never flashed any rom before, so I want to know is there any brick proof and foolproof Guide for it ?
I read many threads, but still confused,
Can I flash it using Flash Tool 0.2.8 (thats the cool tool i found)
any Help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks.
No, only with xrecovery!
So:
1. Update with SEUS (SonyEricssonUpdateService) --> Every data on mobile gets erased except sd-card - same after xrecovery
2. Use FlashTool to root + install xrecovery
3. Follow instructions on 1st page of CM6.1.3 dev threat
already done to your 2nd instruction (xrecovery)
seems like, I am on my own ...lol
Thanks anyways ..
Are you rooted with xRecovery installed? You can flash the CM6.1.3 v4.5.7 in xRecovery after rooting.
Make sure your baseband is either 54, 55 or 58.
1. Place the CM6.1.3 v4.5, 4.5.7-update zip files on your sdcard and reboot phone.
2. When the SE creen shows up, press the back button and it shall boot in xRecovery.
3. Make a backup in xRecovery.
4. Then make a full factory wipe.
5. Then wipe cache.
6. Then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache and then wipe battery stats.
7. Then go to install custom zip and choose the CM6.1.3-V4.5.zip on your sdcard.
8. Then again go to install custom zip and choose the CMUpdate 4.5.7.zip from your sdcard.
9. Reboot in xRecovery.
I am also a noob, not even rooted yet D:
Am I right in thinking that I follow this guide (The stickied flash tool guide):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Do everything there, then install xRecovery? (If so, is there a link or guide for this anywhere?)
I think I understand everything past that..
Just incase I make a complete balls-up of this, can I return back to what I currently have, relatively easy, provided I made a backup in xRecovery?
Thanks
You can use flashtool or superoneclick to root.
Then install xRecovery.
Here is a thread on how to root using superoneclick:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Ok, so my phone is rooted with SuperOneClick.
Trying to do the xRecovery procedure, but I don't really feel like buying the app, when I don't have 100% faith in what I'm doing is right, so I'm trying the manual method.
I also downloaded a free alternative to root explorer, so I'm using that.
When it tells me to copy the 3 files to '/system/bin' folder, where is this located? I can't find this when browsing through my phone files on my computer..
Also, the BusyBox app just searches for BusyBox and then FC's?
Soory for being a noob ):
Make sure that the busybox installer has got superuser permissions. xRecovery needs busybox to be installed.
errrrr, and how do I do that? haha
Appologies! I can't find noob-friendly info anywhere ):
EDIT: restarted phone and notification came up

Got the busybox and xRecovery installed then ?
I would love to say I have, but whenever I try to copy the appropriate xRecovery files into system/bin/ I get the error message 'Not enough space'
Any ideas?
EDIT: and then I discover they are allready there.. ¬¬
DAMN I feel like such an idiot doing this haha
Why are you copying xRecovery files onto /system/bin/ ?
... Just install the xRecovery apk file
I don't know ): I was just following what this thread was saying:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
hahaha, but anyway, I've got that installed now.
So now I drop the CM 6.1.3 files into the root of my SDCard, right? Not sure what it means by 'the root' of my SDCard, Im assuming it mean's i Just put it straight on there, not in any folders or anything?

Yeah... or you can also put it into some folder to make it organised. Make sure to make a backup in xRecovery before flashing the CM 6.1.3 ROM.
I getcha! Thanks a bunch, man! I should be ok from here (Hopefully)
Thanks for your time! ;D
Sorry for double post, but, 2 last quick questions:
1. When 'flashing' things to my phone, is that the same process I used putting the customROM on? (Selecting a custom ZIP file from xRecovery) Or is it done in an entirely different manner? I ask because I want to install some of the extras listed on the mod page.
2. Is it pretty simple and straight-forward to restore my data from my stockphone if I need/want to?
Thanks again!
This guide has detailed steps for installing custom ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979561
p.s. for update v4.5.7, follow the steps to install v4.5 then flash the update files after you are done.

Yeah... flashing is done in the same way as installing the custom zips in xrecovery.
At any given time you can revert back to your old ROM whose backup you created in xrecovery. It will he exactly as it was before you flashed the new ROM.
To restore data you need to backup data using anorher software, typically 'titanium backup'. Its very easy to restore apps using this app.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Cheers guys! I think I have everything covered now!
just to be sure
If i understand correctly, u have to backup your phone with xrecovery to be able to restore to the factory reset.
It's like changing the OS of a PC.
thanks
Some days ago, i want to move app folder in phone memory/data/ to my sdcard, i think that folder is not use so i move with root explorer, mount r/w to my sdcard, suddenly all my application was gone , android market and application installer were gone to
then I use android commander from my pc to install again the root explorer then move back the app folder then restart my phone after i restart my phone, my application not comeback except android market and application installer
My phone is xperia x10 mini pro, can you help me please, any help would be appriciate, sorry for my bad english
GOD BLESS US
when you move them back you need to set permissions.
the easy way is to go in xrec or CWM rec and select fix permissions i think is in advanced.
if this didnt work just install your rom again no need to factory reset just wipe dalvik and partition cache
@Eyama
Thank you, can you explain more detail, because i'm new in android, the application that missing also missing in phone menu, can xrec fix this ?
Thank you
GOD BLESS US
I see that you use Xrecovery.
so go in Xrecovery then go to advanced an select fix permissions (this wil give the right permissions to apps).reboot phone and see if you have al app back (you need them in system/app)
If this still didn't work
Go to Xrecovery and install custom rom again (that one you allready have and wipe dalvik cache and partition cache you have those options in Xrecovery) with selecting install custom zip (have that rom on your SD card) and you will get all apps back and working.
@Eyema
what you mean "(you need them in system/app)" ?
Thank You
GOD BLESS US
Oouuu sory i miss that you lost apps that were downloaded from market and hey are stored in data/app. am i correct?
so you have them back in there
then with root explorer go to that place data/app and press mount r/w
then press and hold on app and then select permissions.
change permissions to
x..x
x
x
do this to all app and then reboot
@Eyema
Yup, youre correct, application from market
Oh dear thank you....^_^
I fix permission with xrecovery and it worked for me....^_^
Thank you
Anyway, i use android commander and droid explorer to explore my phone from pc, but why the root access off ? can you help it ? when i googling that because the adb, i'm very confused with the adb, no adb guide can guide me....TT_TT
One more again thank you, thank you....^_^
Thank's GOD
GOD BLESS US
Well im glad that helped
well im not using anny of this so i can't tell you. and i dont't like adb
so the better way is to get right permissions with root explorer
have a nice day
@Eyema
Okay, thank you....^_^
Oh, i almost forget, when i hold menu in my phone, every running history application should has their icon right ? but why the application installer (for example) had no icon when i hold menu button (the icon appear green with android logo), can you help this ? and how to copy whole phone memory to pc or sd card, or maybe access whole phone memory from pc with root access to ? I use root explorer but not all from phone memory coppied
Thank You
GOD BLESS US
looks like the app doesn't have icon set for this i realy don't know. i think you cant copy the whole phone memory.
i never tried yet to copy from pc to phone memory i always copy from SD card or on it and with root explorer for permissions i think this is the safest way.
@Eyama
Okay, no problem thank you....^_^
this application has the icon set because before my trouble all application missing, when i press the menu button it has icon....^_^
Eyama, can you teach me about rom ? maybe i think i want to change my stock rom, what is freaking fast rom ? and my data and application will be lost if i use another rom ? if yes how to fix it? can you help me to copy/ backup my game save game, widget, and application master (apk) to sdcard or pc ?
Sorry i'm to many ask, thank you
GOD BLESS US
well then try to reinstall it
If you have Mini Pro than you can use this(only for mini pro not for mini)
the freaking fast rom is FroyoComb maded by D4.
yes you lose all data, applications, sms, mms, contacts
you can make backup for data, apps and save game with titanium backup i dont know how is with sms, mms and contact. i save them on pc with my phone explorer.
i you want to install custom rom first you need to see if you have right baseband like this:Baseband Required: M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015
Kernel Required: 2.6.29
you can see it in setting/about phone
then for froyocomb you nedd CWM Recovery not Xrecovery.
i recomended you to try everything with Mini Rom Maneger
it is the simpelest app for installing CWM recovery and downloadig custom rom via phone.
But it is good to have look on XPERIA X10 Mini Pro Android Development thread and you will see how it goes everything
@Eyama
Thank you, where is the best your currently rom or froyocomb ?
With your guide, my basebrand and my kernel same like what you write, ithink i cant back up sms, contact mms via backup and restore application from sony ericsson, what is cwm recovery is it no problem if i have xrecovey in my phone ? what is "freaking fast rom"? And how to insert profile picture and avatar in my xda profile ?
Thank you for your advice and guide, sorry for ask to many question....^_^
GOD BLESS US
click in my signature on name of rom
FroyoComb v1.5
CyaNoComb v1.1 and
CyaNo(R)Evolution v1.3
Yes u can backup with sony ericsson but you wont be able to restore it in custom rom.
so that's why you need to backup with difrent app.
for data and apps use titanium backup
for sms, mms, contacts use Backup everything you have this app on market for free.
CWM Recovery is improvment of Xrecovery
The easyest way to change from Xrecovery to CWM Recovery is to flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059361
You have 2 options for download in your case download MiniCM v5.0 Final Release | for xRecovery
when you install this rom you will get Cwm recovery with it.
for fraking fast rom i just wrote that beacuse this rom is realy fast in every thing (FroyoComb v 1.5)
For profile picture and avatar you all have in USER CP if something u don't know how to you have a guide:

@Eyama
Thank you, how about using mini rom manager like you said ?
With xrecovery in my phone, can i use mini rom manager like you said ? and how to use cwm recovery ?
Thank you
GOD BLESS US
well mini rom maneger is te app that you can download custom roms from xda
than you can install CWM recovery just by pressing button.
yes you can use rom maneger with xrecovery.
cwm recovery is basically just like xrecovery but is a litle bit improved and better.
@Eyama
Thank you, Are there any way to install cwm recovery like use apk ?
So to use cwm recovery must reboot phone and press back button like xrecovery ?
GOD BLESS US
yes there is download this rom MiniCM v5.0 Final Release | for xRecovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1059361
an put it on sd card leave it in .zip (do not unzip it or raname it)
when you are in xrecovery
select Full Wipe (factory reset)
then in advanced select wipe dalivk cache and battery stats
than select install custom zip
select chose custom zip from sd card and navigate to .zip
select the zip and wait to finish installation.
when is finished reboot phone
first boot will take a litle bit long so dont be afraid
after this you will have custom rom and CWM recovery.
Yes to use CWM recovery is the same way like xrecovery rebot and pressing back button or with custom rom you have an option to reboot into cwm rec. press and hold off button and then press reboot and chose recovery
@Eyama
Okay, thank you
If i want to use froyocomb ? so to do it ? mini rom manager will download dwm but it take charges....TT_TT any other way ?And how to backup widget ?
GOD BLESS US
well install this rom as i told you an you will get with cusom rom cwm recovery.
if you dint like MiniCM v5 rom you can download Froyocom v1.5 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085607
and install it like you install in xrec
but alway when you are changing roms backup everything an than in cwm rec factory reset(ful wipe) then wipe dalvik cache and wipe partition cache
you cant backup widgets only you can backup app witch have widgets
Hi! I want to install a Custom ROM on my X8
This: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101691
But, when I download the file, it's an update...
Since I have Android, the Costum ROMs I always intall them from "Backup and Restore"
Sorry for by a NOOB, but, really I want to install that ROM, but I dont know how...
Somebody help me? I dont know if I explaind good....
THX
Have you rooted your device? If not, search the web for how to root your X8.
Yeah man, my X8 it's rooted... but I don't know what direct relation is beteween root and intalling the ROM with xRecovery...
My question again, in other way
When I download the CROM, the only file that I have is a "Update.zip", so, this is an update from the main crom? or I install it with "Install custom rom" on my Eclair? (the ROM it's GingerBread)
THX
(CROM = CUSTOM ROM)
The update.zip file is the ROM. Make sure you back up anything you want to restore to the new ROM (apps, SMS/MMS, etc.) before booting into xRecovery. Also, once in xRecovery, back up your current ROM before flashing the new one.
Okay, so, I have to install this "Update.zip" on my Eclair (2.1) using the option of xRecovery called "Install update.zip from SD Card"?
After, make the full-wipe and reboot?

NO !!! First you need to download and install a Busybox. Its an app which could be download from Anrdoid Market. When AM install it, open the app and click INSTALL BUSYBOX (it ask for root perms- you need to click allow). Then Boot your xRecovery and click Apply Update from sdcard. When its ready do full wipe and then boot your phone with new rom
Hello
i need some help... i live in israel..
i just bought samsung galaxy s2 and i want to root it...the problem is i just cant find the right kernel.. my phone kernel is JHKJ1
i have searched for like an 2 hours without success..so if someone could help me i will be grateful.
I think you should flash it with the stock rom (first step) which has rooted kernel (second step). use odin. don't use ICS rom.
Root with this,its a KJ1 CF-Root kernel

dude thanks a lot!!!!
you really helped me... you are the king..
but may i just ask..what does the superuser do?
does it gives me some special things?..coz i have now on my phone CMW and superuser but when i log in to the superuser it gives me only apps --> CMW..
and thats all... does it right?
CWM is the recovery on your phone, used for flashing ROMs, clearing cache and various other advanced features.
Superuser is used to allow or deny a given app ROOT access, and also to keep a log of when those privelages have been granted.

Yeah mate all explained. One of the things that you need to know about the CWM app is that it has the function to make a nandroid backup. This is a backup of your complete firmware as it is now on your phone, contacts, kernel, apps, everything. What this does is makes a backup for you to use if something ever went wrong while doing a flash then all you need to do is enter into revcovery mode and restore the backup and your will be exactly as it is right now.I suggest you do one to have a backup handy.Never know when you might need one.You can delete and create new ones as you go.
1.Open CWM app (give it permissions of course)
2.Select "Backup"
3..Select "Accept"
4..Select,if asked, "int.SD" (this is your internalSD.Sometimes externalSD backups dont register when you need them)
Now it will do a backup and you can reopen the CWM app and see it by selecting Delete or Restore. As you go collecting more apps and so on you can delete and create new ones.If for some reason your phone blows out you can restore the latest backup made by entering in CWM app or if you have done something really bad then by holding Volume up+Home+Power to enter into recovery mode.A good app to download now is Titanium backup. It also backs up all apps and data so if you ever flash a ROM you can pass the apps+data to the new ROM.
Before installing Titanium install busybox.Dont forget to give these apps root permission.Install from market, open and install only busybox. The Apps no.

Titanium is good because you can uninstall system app from your carrier that you dont want that annoy you
