would just need to change adb.exe in adb (in source) and provide the proper linux files. other than that no issue.

I see, well nice work , i have been working on java softwares using adb, now im porting to linux

May you provide the sources please?
Or in other words: do you replace some files or is it just the keyprint.xml thingy?

Thanks man, but for me it is easier to change it manually using root explorer, because I never use data cable But it is very useful for many people
Temes

I think so too.

Another awesome tool that works fine
But why java? It takes ages to load the jvm just for some commands that are ported into a GUI :/

What you mean with that? java it's the more portable language, you can make a tool for windows and VERY easily port it to linux, or any OS.
Im sorry but I <3 java, also wtf with "it takes ages" ??

THanks Slade,
I tested it to update my MiniPro to qwerty-br, reboot and it works!
Just to confirm, now instead of SE keyboard I see TalkBack keyboard option...

Look at programs compiled in C/C++, they run really fast, while in java you have to wait some time, until the java virtual machine is loaded
Sure, the cross platforming of java is awesome, but i dont think so much GUI-only people are driving linux on their systems

Hi Slade,
Qwerty-br is definitly different than qwerty-pt!
Example
- 'Ç' is ','
- ',' is '´'
- '´' does not exist
You have all details in the other thread to create a qwerty-pt, but if you need again I can attach it!
Can you please make a qwerty-pt?
Thanks

I have a question can I use this to make layout for other keyboar like 'Android keyboard' can I use this to make a layout for that. I want it because in 'android keyboard' the slide out qwerty does not have a underscore ' _ ' mark.

What do you do with this extension ? .. or are there still people who use dinosaur M$ OS'es on their computers??

Oh no, not only .exe but also it uses .net libs which are so much broken !
Come on, mate, do we REALLY have to install M$ and than also 200mb+ of useless libs on top of it just to extract a file ?!?!
P.S. installed .net crap, and managed to use it.
Dude! Take it easy!
This guy is trying to develop us some nice software and you are whining before you evene tried it!
Please show some respect for the people that try to build something that might get us further in probably a custom rom.
I will try your software tomorrow if i can find the time!
Thx for your effort!

[Q] Rooting under GNU/Linux

Hi folks,
is there a way to rooting an X10 mini pro under a GNU/Linux distro?
It's a waste installing Windows on VirtualBox to do that...
Thanks!

install wine (some type of emulator of win.)
them with wine open Super One Click and root
Link : http://www.winehq.org/
Just use zroot or super one click, there's no need of a specific OS
@PTGamer: i'd like to avoid any windows related stuff
@ernest-sora: i don't want that Mono brick in my applications ;-), isn't zroot an old method for rooting (e.g. for the first X10 mini pro smartphones)?
I was lokng for a shell-a-like method and if it doesn't exist, fair enough i should have it with a glass of Wine
Many thanks!
There is a post here from ShortFuse (dev of SoC) using mono. I tried it it in arch but it failed. I guess because drivers for my phone weren't installed.

Thanks for the hint but as i said before, i'm looking to an alternative that isn't Windows proned as o.s. virtualization or software like wine or Mono (which i still consider it in Windows domain due to .NET and C# ).
By the way i'm on Archlinux too ;-)
use "1 click root" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747598 you install apk on your phone and press Root

Yeah I feel you. I've been searching to find some source code for SoC to see how it works but to no avail... Mono might be a little lighter since with wine you get to download all this bin32 dependencies...

@Markolic: I'm not sure it works with latest SE udpated.
@kissmyarch: looking at what SuperOnClick does, it seems nothing more than a simple shell script could do (if it runs when the phone is in debug mode, it has to do nothing more that we do with adb or similar tool in a shell).
Hey ff0000.it! I found a nice article about the attacks used to gain root

[DEV] Standalone python scripts

I have been experimenting lately with some python scripts using the concept of http://code.google.com/p/android-scripting/
however i found the interface limiting in lots of places.
you can't run applications on console directly.
you have environmental limitations.
you can't pass command-line arguments.
so while searching for solution i have came across python standalone however this script itself had some shortcommings including path errors.
so i have worked on this and found an optimal solution so here is the customized script.
Code:
[B]PW=`pwd`[/B]
export EXTERNAL_STORAGE=/mnt/sdcard
[B]export LANG=en[/B]
PYTHONPATH=/mnt/sdcard/com.googlecode.pythonforandroid/extras/python
PYTHONPATH=${PYTHONPATH}:/data/data/com.googlecode.pythonforandroid/files/python/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload
export PYTHONPATH
export TEMP=/mnt/storage/com.googlecode.pythonforandroid/extras/python/tmp
export PYTHON_EGG_CACHE=$TEMP
export PYTHONHOME=/data/data/com.googlecode.pythonforandroid/files/python
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/data/data/com.googlecode.pythonforandroid/files/python/lib
[B]cd $PW[/B]
/data/data/com.googlecode.pythonforandroid/files/python/bin/python "[email protected]"
These changes allow for following things.
allow us to use this shell script to call python.
allows for command line argument passing.
relative path references are now working
what i have setup at my system is as follows
script is named as py and placed at /system/bin/
chmod 755 /system/bin/py
so now i can naviagate to any folder and just type py followed by script name to execute it.
This should help in quick porting and testing of scripts in android handset, and small name should help in making it easy to work on virtual terminal.
However we cann't undermine the SL4A project coz the project is there to provide interfacing between android and python.
successfully
I will try to keep updating all the python scripts that i have been able to run hope others can also contribute to it.
very interesting
Brings back memories of Symbian...

I too would love the help and for possibly someone to take me under their wing. I am very eager to learn. I'm always on my phone, and always trying to read, but sometimes the forums just contradict themselves, and let's face it, with all the drama going on in the forum, it can sometimes get a little frustrating trying to ask for help, especially when someone doesn't want to be bothered by a noob. Thanks in advance

Not sure what you are asking. For the sdk tools, do you mean the android sdk? If so, follow the instructions on the sdk page. For the images, I assume you mean the boot.img and possibly system.img. You do not open these. If you have a system.img, that means you probably have a shipped rom. Use the kitchen to create working folder from rom, and choose this. It should auto extract the system partition. As for the boot.img, you don't generally need to extract this, but there is an option in the advanced settings of the kitchen. You can change your rom's kernel in the boot.img.

Hey Guys!
First of all a bit of encouragement. The android kitchen sure as hell does not turn you into a rom developer. I decided i wanted to use the kitchen just over 2 weeks ago and run ubuntu in a virtual window. From then I decided I did not like windows anymore so installed linux as my main os and had to learn that (trust me getting the graphics card to work was a chore) I finally got the kitchen working tonight and decided to sign up to xda. Even with my limited knowledge I have been able to help someone on here tonight. Read Read Read and ask questions if you can not find the right answers on the forum. Research pays off eventually. (I now softmod nintendo wiis professionally from learning off a forum!!!!) Remember everyone has to start somewhere even if you are a noob and don't get disheartened if someone says you should have read this this and this. As long as you learn from ur mistake I'm sure people wont mind too much.

Im about to take the dive myself, still rounding up the tools. Was about to dl virtual...unbuntu etc but read this just now and it makes sence so as much as i want to screwup my phine as fast as possible i think i will follow this advice.
You might have already seen and read but what the hell....

Here's my advice for those looking to make their own Android ROMs.. Stop. Write an app or two first, learn how the system works from a developer standpoint. Learn some Java. Read the developer documentation. Learn how to use Git. Then learn how to build AOSP from source. Read the porting guides, and learn how the build system works (the links below have almost everything you could possibly want to know). Now try to put your new found skills to work on enhancing the platform by writing code or making theme overlays. And share! And put that **** on your resume. There is a *ton* of information out there but any kind of "step-by-step rom cooking guide" is going to be a complete fail- it's too broad of a subject.
Android Developer Guides: http://d.android.com
Working with AOSP source: http://source.android.com
Platform Developer Guide: http://pdk.android.com
Android Gitweb: http://android.git.kernel.org
Git Ready (Git tips and tricks): http://www.gitready.com/
Building CyanogenMod: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.ph...ng_from_source
How Dexopt works and what are those odex files: http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=pla...5936;hb=master
The PDK site is absolutely vital if you are going to work on custom ROMs. Read every single page. Twice. Some of the info isn't up to date, but you'll get a really good idea about what goes into actually configuring Android to work on a real device.

What version of Linux are you running? Are you running Ubuntu? I never had much luck using the Android Kitchen in a virtual environment for some reason. When I installed Ubuntu as my main OS, however, that made all the difference. From there you'll also need to make sure you have the Java Developers Kit (JDK) installed or at least open-jdk (Open source alternative) installed in order to run the Android Kitchen or the SDK for that matter.
There's a really good tutorial on how to set up the SDK on Ubuntu 10.10 or Ubuntu 11.04 which is what I had used to set up the SDK on linux for the first time. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=921169
I prefer 10.10 just because I'm not huge on Ubuntu's newer Unity interface and my old laptop seems to run 10.10 a lot better than 11.04 or 11.10 but that's another story.
Once you have the SDK setup, you can then run the kitchen accordingly.
I use a tool called Android Utility by tommytomatoe which is essentially a collection of tools for creating custom ROMs, editing apk's, etc. It just happens to also include dsixda's kitchen which is a nice plus. You can download that here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/3303-utility-android-utility-apktooldex2jarsmalimoremac-linuxoct09-2011/
Hope this helps. Good luck, dood!
**Edit** My bad... There's also a thread for Android Utility on XDA also....

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that's impossible. What are you going to run a compiler on?
I m not making from the source . only porting and signeing how . lot of sign app like ( zip me ) etc r not working.
Apktool for Android contains a lot of useful tools for signing zip files etc. etc. and also whole java framework:
https://github.com/pqy330/apktool (download links from baidu.com below).
Also it IS absolutely possible to even compile whole rom or kernel on android device. C4Droid app (paid, search @gplay) seem to provide whole environment for compiling c/c++ and it IS working. The second thing is how long would it take....
