Dude, you MUST read all the info in the below thread at least else you may end up messing your phone or even worse - bricking it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247
Also, AFTER you've gone through all procedures, I would recommend you to try nessy rom with franco's v15 kernel.

I have rooted my SGS2. What to do next?

Hi all,
I have rooted my device according to the following method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319653
My phone specs are as follows: Stock Rom.
PDA:KJ2/ PHONE:KI4/ CSC:KJ1 (XSG)
Now that I have rooted my device, I would like some help what to do next for optimum performance and to remove the bloatware? I am very new to android world. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
trawl the rom threads see what you like the look of, im not saying this just becausei use it, but take a look at the litenin rom thread in my sig, thats simple to flash and plenty of instructions, i have found most roms are are based on nothing much being changed unless you go for miui or a cm7 rom,
if you wanna remove bloatware i personally set my phone up n use system app remover, everyone has there own personal choice for roms so its basically take a look at the thread if u like the look of it give it a shot,
there is plenty of help and advice in the stickys and the rom threads if you get stuck.

Thanks a lot Demon_man for the reply. I have noted few things in lightening ROM which need clarification.
1) It is based on 2.3.4 while mine is 2.3.5...should I go back?
2) It doesn't support Right to left languages..They say to install older versions.
3) what is the battery life with lightening ROM?
I shall be thankful for further help.
sorry thought i had updated my sig litnin is now un supported as far as im aware the dev left but this thread has taken over the litnin rom,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334124
RtoL languages i wouldnt no sorry not without asking or going through the whole details.
battery life is excellent simple as
and the link i just gave like i said is the litning rom updated

[Q] How to put roms on etc

hi all i just got my galaxy s2 today and have no idea where to start with putting a rom on ot anything. so any help would be great thanks
First you need to be rooted(your phone not you)and then go to the Development section and you will find a list of different ROMs.Its a matter of finding what you want in a ROM and downloading and trying each one.Usually the ROM page has the download and install instructions writen on it.You need to be rooted to have CWM.Ill leave a link to my ROM so you can see what I mean.Below the different ROM versions you will see install instructions. If your not sure what root is let me know
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290468
Spend some time using your phone to get used to It before flashing. This will give you a better idea of what you like and don't like about it.
Armed with that info you can read up on each custom Rom to see if they offer what you want.
Read read and when you think you are ready to flash read some more.

X2 read alot, play with the phone, figure things out. There is so much to learn so you don't turn your phone into a brick. Rooting means you become a superuser, you take ownership so you can customize your phone.

Please don't even think about flashing a custom rom or rooting your phone until you're comfortable/confident enough to do it without making posts like this.
I have seen so many people in your situation on here stuff their phone up over the last few weeks because they were in too much of a hurry to mess with their phone.
AceOfClubs (and others) has given you good advice, heed it :-|
Read the CFRoot thread until you are so confident with rooting the phone that you could do it in your sleep, and then root your phone with the CFRoot kernel that corresponds to your current stock kernel. Not before.
From there, read the various development threads about different roms/kernels, get to know the various features/advantages of each (and ask questions if necessary...about the rom/kernel itself, not the process of flashing same) and then when you've settled on a rom or kernel and you're completely confident about the flashing process, flash it.
Doing this will mean you'll get it right the first time. This will result in:-
A) You not posting yet another "OMG mah fone is teh brikked helpz !" thread.
B) You not having to do without using your phone for x days (weeks) should you mess it up.
Clear ? Good

Root is changing the kernel in your phone to give you super user access which is needed to flash ROMs and firmwares. Also along with flashing there are other things to read up on like an EFS/IMEI file backups which are vital, also nandroid and Titanium backups. As you can see there are alot of good people here willing to help with good advice and all are correct in saying that you shouldnt rush into things.Take your time, read up and dont be afraid to ask questions.Play with your phone and when you know it well enough and have seen enough threads on what and what not to do then you can take the first step and root.First read up on rooting then EFS/IMEI backups and why they are needed. The rest will come in time.Id rather see you here asking questions and not in another thread saying "Help I just bricked my phone!!"

How to root and 'best' ROM

I'm a noob who needs to learn how to root their sgs2. First Android phone but I'm looking to open up and get more from my phone.
Also there seems to be so many roms and people taking of bricking. If anyone could explain the 'best' rom and what to do once my phone is rooted I would appreciate it thanks

If you don't know what you want root for, I'd suggest not rooting.
The best ROM is <insert name of ROM here>.
My advice: stick to stock.
Man, people need to use the search button nowadays :/
As well as Google.
If you're an Android noob and you start rooting, there is a high chance of failing to root HENCE a brick would occur. Most bricks you hear or see that people get are from careless actions or they don't know what in god's name they are doing.
Do not make that mistake.
Research before attempting because I assume no matter what, you want your device rooted.
Make sure you have an GT-I9100 device, check by turning on and off your device.
The best ROMs I have used, and maybe you should stick to for a while, is either CriskeloROM, SensatioN Rom, CheckROM or Lite'ning ROM, found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253665
Use Odin to flash a custom kernel, for example Ninphetamine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179814
Follow guides on ROM pages to install their ROMs, installing a ROM automatically roots your device.
Good advice from previous poster.First read up on rooting and what it brings to your phone as it doesnt just bring flashing rights. As for bricking, its easy to brick your phone if your not carefull and dont read the instructions well and put the wrong kernel in Odin. Its an easy proccess but some people just dont follow the guides.Bricking in some cases is self caused. The ROM thing is a hard one cos there is no perfect ROM when everyone has different needs so its a case of read each ROM thread and choose what you like.If you dont like it try another. No one here on this site who knows what they are doing,Im quite sure, has only ever flashed one ROM in there time here.Best thing to do right now is stay stock until you read up on some important facts about flashing
1.Rooting,how why and what it brings.
2.nandroid backup
3.EFS/IMEI backup and restore-super impotant cos if you loose this info your screwed
4.the difference between each one and what each Dev brings to his/her ROM
5.Flashing.Some are done via recovery and some via odin. Also bootloops and how to get out of them
if i were you i'd first read all bout roms/kernels till your eyes bleed
then once you know how to do it, well pick a kernel and a rom which suits your needs
learn from people mistakes, i usually read couple pages on how people messed up while flashing so i dont fall in the same, and in case you brick your phone also have a way to recover it prepared
Maxwell0;2109742
Also there seems to be so many roms and people taking of bricking. If anyone could explain the 'best' rom and what to do once my phone is rooted I would appreciate it thanks :)
As asked if you know nothing and that knowledge is so limited you have to ask the banned question what is best rom then stick with stock until you understand .
Likewise why root if you dont know why .

Well, just follow the exact instructions the developers give when you flash something And always make a Nandroid back up first.
Furthermore: check for which phone models the roms etc. are (I9100 or anything else you have), to avoid flashing something bad.
If you're afraid for the eMMC brickbug: read the threads that are made for it for info about that.
Sent from the Matrix
The emmc brick bug only happens on stock kernel when wipe data is selected just flash any other kernel before doing anything else and then your safe. Don't flash a ROM for any other phone including the i9100G double check before flash the file name is usually .............i9100
Honestly ? Don't flash anything in the first place. Leave your phone stock & enjoy using it.
If the thought of breaking it frightens you, leave it alone.
Nandriod backup can't save you from hard brick. RTFM (or thread) is the only safe path if you can't stop the hacking itch, and don't be a hero to be the first one to try something new like leaked ROM. Good luck.

Hi guys! I'm a noob, and I have some questions

Hi guys!
First of all, I'm sorry if my english sounds wierd, not my main language.
I'm not here to ask witch rom or kernel are the best, just some help.
Recently I got an S2 - GT-I9100 with stock 4.1.2 room. I'm loving this phone, and I kinda like the samsung's rom even tough it consumes a lot of battery. I'm kinda curious about CyanogenMod and using moded kernels, but, I'm kinda afraid of messing up everything and brick my phone. Checked if I had the eemc firmware insane chip and I got it, so it makes me even more insecure of trying out new stuff.
Now for the questions:
I have this phone locked to a carrier, can I still flash it?
Can I flash it even if I have the eemc bug without any problems?
Can you guys recomend a really good newbie guide with each and every step to flash and install a new kernel? (I've looked around this website and the internet, but, those that I find kinda' dont explain everything in an easy way)
I've instaled clockworkmod on my phone, but it says it dosent suport it. why not?
Can I have a custom kernel with sammy's stock room?
thanks in advance.
1) Yes, you can flash custom firmware if your phone is carrier locked
2) Yes, you can flash your phone despite having a chip susceptible to the EMMC bug, which only affects phones running rooted stock 4.0.4 firmware
3) Do not attempt to flash anything to your phone until those guides make sense. Right now they look like they 'don't explain things in an easy way' because you obviously don't know a lot about Android, and in particular this phone. If you take the time to read/learn, the guides very quickly will become easy to understand & you'll know what you're doing. Flashing without knowing what you're doing leads to busted phones & dented wallets.
4) Without knowing exactly what you flashed, I have no idea. If you want to root your phone, there is a thread stickied near the top of Q&A that has all the info you need. It honestly doesn't get any simpler than that thread. If you don't find it easy to understand, as I said above, don't do anything to your phone until you do.
5) Yes, you can run a custom kernel with a stock rom

If you flash Philz kernal for your software build its a safe kernal from the brick bug. If you download the zip file it will not only put the safe kernal on but also root it. Link below

If you're running rooted 4.0.4 stock & you do a factory reset, there's a fair chance you'll brick your phone. For the technical version, Google/XDA search is your friend.

Hi once more!
Can I ask you for some more help? I read the post about philz kernel, understood what I have to do and I want to thank you about trying to help me. I'm sorry to bother you once more, since I prefer to be certain.
Got the GT-I9100

Baseband is I9100BULS1
Kernel version is 3.0.31-88955 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT KST 2013
Compilation Number is JZO54K.I9100XWLSD
So I guess the one that I need to download and install is:
<< 17.04.2013 - PhilZ-cwm6 v4.93.6 with CWM 6.0.3.1 based recovery >>
XWLSD (bootloop fixed)

No worries, Im happy to help.
If you already have superuser just download the "tar" file and flash it with odin as thats just the kernal.
Your build is LSD, download that one. which is philz 5.06.1
Your LSD build is quite old, have a look on samfilmware for your region as im sure you should get atleast LSW. Theres also LSZ and MS1 builds out.
Sorry here is the one you need
http://www.mediafire.com/download/q642zb02je6l1bb/PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSD-OXX-4.93.6.tar.md5
Sorry for being such a pain in the ass.
Well tbh, this phone is second hand, and the guy that sold it to me, had a custom rom on it but I asked him to flash it back to stock at the time. it came with stock 2.4 or something, but I updated it trough kies to 4.1.2. I looked around samfilmware and I only saw the build I have right now. I dont think I can update it
So I only need to get odin3, put the cellphone in dm, flash the new tar and thats it?

Correct (4.0.4 being ICS). Even if you have a susceptible chip, the firmware has to have the bug which causes the chip to be scrambled/corrupted, which means anything before 4.0.4 or anything after (or anything custom for that matter) poses no problems.

I'm at work right now, so I can only do it after work. So I just need to, follow the instructions on the NEAT ROM post to flash it? They dont say how to backup your things tough but I searched in this forum and found how to do it-. So I only need to use the cwm to back it up. Does it back up EFS folder too?
You have been so far a really helpful dude, thanks mate! Was kinda afraid of posting something here, but turns out there is really nice people around here!
Btw if the mods want I can just PM you for some help instead of posting here.
