[Q]Changing Webtop screen resolution - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I am wondering if anyone knows of a way to change the screen resolution that the you're asked to input when connecting your Atrix to a screen for the first time. The only thing I've been able to come up with to do this is via hard-reset (I'd rather not) or connecting to another HDMI tv (not available to me at the moment).
Any suggestions?
BTW, I am rooted and running stock ROM.

Nevermind, I found my answer. In case anyone is interested, all I did was use TiBu to wipe the data of the "mobiledesktop" system file. This reset the webtop screen settings and allowed me to change the resolution.

Hello,
Can you elaborate a bit further?
By TiBu you mean Titanium Backup I presume?
If so, I don't see any MobileDesktop system file.
Thanks!

[Devs Please Comment] Does flashing using flash brick tool clog up the system?

Hey there, just got a question.
I did the root process a few times on my phone and did a couple times to flash back to stock firmware. Now after flashing or just factory reset, it seems like the scrolling isn't smooth as it used to be. Like for example scrolling on the drawer or even just browsing through the market.
Now I know sometimes flashing firmware might leave files or stuff left behind. Is this correct?
Any insight on this?

I've had an HD2 before, and it did slow down your system, on the HD2 you preform whats called a "Task29" to format your phone for a new flash, i don't know how this works on the X10 actually, i just wanted to give you some information.
Yea that's why I want to find out. Any devs care to comment on this?
Looking forward to the comments!
i think se official firmware is better than rooted custom firmware i prepared to use the official firmware than rooted one because is not well developed by the devteam...i'll root my x10i until the devteam make it really stable....but thanks devteam for all your efforts....

As a rule of thumb, you should ideally do a "factory reset" after a flash for optimum performance. Do make sure you have your data backed up first.

You don't know what you are writing. The root firmware is completely same as original only the access rights of ONE file (the SH) is manipulated. After that is done we install su and superuser (and betterterm, htcime keyboard etc but you can delete all of them or just outcomment in the batch if you dont want them).
So what you are writing is bull**** because the firmware is the same.

Bin4ry is right - please do some research into things before you make comments like this.
If you've followed all of the instructions correctly, it's the applications and games that you've installed that are causing problems - nothing else.

I've never done the "factory reset" after I've flashed.
What gets lost? APN settings, Email addresses, contacts, SMS?
Programs still intact?
Thx

You will lose all user data and settings, i.e contacts, sms, mms, alarms, calendar entries, system settings and all user installed apps. Thats why you should back up everything before a full flash, once flashed, do a full factory reset and then reinstall your data.
Will take longer than your usual method but it is recommended

Thanks, wasn't sure about the apps.
I guess with my combo of Titanium backup and My Backup Pro it shouldn't be that big of a job
I found out why my phone was going slow and laggy scrolling. I took out the micro sd and the phone was fast like when I first got it.
So I backed up the files in the card and formatted. It didn't work at first but now it is ok. I thought the micro sd reader was faulty causing the phone being slow so I don't really know.

Help In Restoring To Stock and Transfering Everything To New G Tab

I need help. I have two G-tabs one I've modded with TNT-Lite and one still in the box that I was going to return but decided to hold on to until the 30 return time just in case something went wrong with the one I have. Well something has, one of the pixels on the screen appears to be dead, or at least something is wrong with it and other pixels have become extremely noticeable in certain light.
How do I return my modded tab back to stock? Or can I just send it back to Amazon as is and just wipe the files off? And is there a way to transfer everything I have setup on this tab over to the new one which would be the Apps and the Rom? I'm pretty new to all this so I basically need a walk through.

You can transfer anything else with either a MicroSD or USB Drive

Thanks, I've backed up all apps and system files with Titanium Backup will I need to root the new tab or is TNT Lite backed up in the system files?
You should install the ROM first then restore Apps+Data with Titanium. Restoring system data is wonky at best so I would avoid that if at all possible.

Is it Possible?

I was wondering how I could make an exact copy of my system the way I have it set up, minus my personal info / installed apps after the fact and transfer it to another note.
I installed Holo kernel / TCPnote v2, froze tw launcher (after installing the latest golauncher ex beta) and several other bloat related things. Basically the whole system is running GoContacts / sms / launcher / locker. Changed some memory options / font / themes.
I have a friend that has a note as well and he liked my setup but I don't feel like going through all the work of doing it all again on his and was wondering if there was someway I could dump my setup to a image and reflash on his.
Any input is appreicated.
Would it help if whomever can help me with this got a donation, say $50.00 for their time?

You can do a backup through CWM and then copy the backup file to his clockwork mod backup folder and restore it . also do a titaninum back up of all the apps he wants that you have. then do a factory reset on his phone and it will erase all of your personal information. then go back to titanium back up and restore all the apps he wants from your setup.
Thanks for the idea, I dunno if what I said in the first post was sensible, I already have a bunch of apps and stuff installed for me, that 'm sure he wouldn't want. What I was hoping to do is be able to image the core system (or the whole thing, and take out extras + my personal info / accounts, etc) then repackage it, flash with odin or cwm, Basically like the devs do roms, except backwards. I have the system setup / tweaks / launcher / addon's and would like to pull that out, minus anything i had installed afterwards, and make it flashable to his phone by any means necessary.
His phone is completely stock, so if I could image it to fash thru odin then he would have working root / cwm / custom rom + beats and other things i've deleted such as bloatware / vpn / stuff average users will never use.
Any other sugguestions?

No I dont know how to do it any other way. but if you could give me a thanks for trying it would be very appreciated
On Titanium Backup, you can uncheckmark the programs that you don't want to restore.
You can do a backup on your phone, and a backup using Titanium Backup, restore onto his phone by copying over the clockwordmod folder and the Titanium Backup folder.
Root/cwm his phone, then restore using cwm. Factory reset, then reboot.
Download Titanium Backup (Pro makes this a lot less painful), run it, do a batch restore, and uncheck the programs he won't use.
EDIT: Someone else ninja'd me. I really don't know if there's a way to reverse it. There should be theoretically. You most likely would have to still factory reset and use titanium backup.
EDIT 2: This might work: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.p3droid.odinmaker.donate
Can you make a nandroid without data and cache?
at first glance it looks like you want to make a rom
but upon reading it again, i have to say:
generally no, but it MIGHT be possible with LOTS of work
the main problem is, that most of your settings (like widgets, ...) are stored in data.
so what you could do is:
manually remove the data stuff you don't want, keep only the stuff you really need (lots of work, and might not work correctly)
and then you might be able to share it together with your system image (you would need to wipe cache and data before you write your backed up data...
which brings us back to the original answer...
I think possibly doing a part manual and part automated might be your best bet. Use titanium to back up then restore apps to his phone. There are apps that backup your desktop (shortcut and widget locations). Perhaps this will reduce a bulk of your setup time once you get a preferred ROM in place. Paid version of Titanium Backup allows you to restore all apps in unattended batch rather then making you click yes/install to every app. This may be worth it, I love it. I have been thinking about this on and off since yesterday and just can't think of a way of doing it that wont require a good but of work one way or another. Good luck though, let us know what you figure out.

Thanks for all the suggestions, for the moment, I installed CWM and rooted the Note, still deciding on the best way to get his like mine with minimal amount of work needed for me or him. To bad there is not a way to image a phone's system completely, then just restore on the other phone.
Now I wish I would have cared more about programming instead of the hardware side back when I was in school eating up computer courses.

Just my thought. Search for the user Samcripp. He basically has a program that makes s a system img of your current setup. I know it is in the skyrocket forum but not sure if it would work for our device.....not sure why it wouldn't but that's why I'm not a dev.... lol

[Q] How to bypass pattern lock?

Hi there,
Please forgive my stupid questions, I don't know much about this kind of stuff!
My daughter has a pattern lock on her Asus Memo HD7, and she forgot what it was. I have no idea what email was used, I've tried all possible emails to reset the screen lock, but none of them work.
I could do the factory reset, but I would just hate to lose all her photos and videos.
I watched a few youtube videos, and installed the adb/fastboot. I can't get the adb commands to work at all, but it has recognized the tablet a couple of times with fastboot. Problem is, I have no clue what commands to use to access her photos? (I also don't know if the tablet's debugger is enabled or disabled). Or if there is a way to bypass the pattern lock? Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Wipe data (factory reset) it means : delete installed apps & system apps's data
This will not delete any pictures or videos or any content located on internal memory or sdcard.
There is a guide here: (you need ADB for this, but keeps all apps and settings)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800799
Or look at the smudges on the screen..

So if I choose the wipe data/factory reset button it will not delete the photos? I thought that wiped the whole thing back to how it was coming out of the box?
What do the options 'back up user data' and 'restore user data' do?
Thanks!

[Solved] [HELP] [URGENT] Messed up my screen resolution and/or DPI.

I tried to use an app called Second Screen from Play Store to change my screen resolution as i was trying to cast the screen to my laptop which was resulting in black bars due to different resolution and aspect ratio. As soon as i applied the settings in the app, my screen turned black and then crashed after waiting for a few seconds. Tried the following:-
1. dirty flash the rom, uninstalled magisk.
2. Wipe /system and flashed rom.
From the above it looks like the resolution and/or DPI change has nothing to do with /system.
I really really dont want to reset the phone as there are tons of apps installed and i have a lot of media on it as well.
I have TWRP installed and is working fine and also the phone boots but ends up in a black screen and i can see the power menu if I long press the power button but it appears in landscape (nothing else appears). If i boot the phone and keep it for a minute or so, it ends up crashing.
Please help. I seem to have reached my limits.
Edit:
I made a nandroid backup and wiped everything except internal storage and the phone boots and works fine but as soon as i restore /data of the old rom backup, the problem comes back.
Edit 2: Tried safe mode but the again to no avail. I can get the phone back if i wipe everything /data / system EXCEPT storage but don't want to loose my apps and settings. Believe me there's tons of apps installed on my phone. Tried to enable adb via editing props but it ends in a bootloop. Editing adb settings in the global_settings file in /data/system/users/0 doesn't stick.
if anyone knows where the display size and density settings reside in the form of a file so that i can replace them with the correct one , please reply.
Any kind of help is greatly appreciated. :crying: :crying:
Edit 3: I don't know what I did but I somehow made it work. I was about to give up when I accidentally restored back the nandroid backup and I thought "I might as well give it a last shot now thay the old /data is restored". I did a lot of things including copying some of the props and XML files and many more things and it booted without any problems except that it wasn't accepting my lockscreen password which is quite easy to fix. Thanks to everyone for bearing this with me.
Google, the answer to this, that and many other things.
Try: adb shell wm density 392

I'm not sure though, but I think flashing Vendor+Firmware will do the trick..
And if it didn't work, what you need to do is flash stock fastboot rom... then install twrp again and flash a custom rom (if that's what you're using)

TWRP has a terminal shell. Try it there.
wm density
And
wm size
I forgot the full commands but you'll find them. I thing wm density reset is an option and so is wm size reset

Tried to flash the vendor to no avail. I can get the phone back if i wipe everything /system /data everything EXCEPT storage but i have tons of apps installed and lots of custom settings and i dont want o lose them.. :crying::crying::crying:
[OP UPDATED]
Been there. The only solution was restoring 1 day old backup. It's in /data partition for sure.
If your concern is the apps. Try move folder data/app and data/data to internal storage. Reset and move back the folders before booting up.
You can also try renaming Shell.apk to Shell.apk.bak and see if it solves your problem without factory reset.
Also try renaming WMService inside /system/app.

I solved it somehow. I'm on MIUI EU 9.6.27. I'll update the op.
Is there a way to stock flash rom without unlocked bootloader and usb debugging enabled? I encountered the same DPI bootloop, but still stuck here.
I read somewhere I can flash without unlocking bootloader as long as it is stock rom? but how?
I tried:
adb sideload stockrom.zip
but it only returned
* cannot read stockrom.zip' *
Is there still a way to flash? It is alright for me even to wipe data.
*edit: I did not enable USB debugging, but adb devices reads the data when in "Recovery > Connect to MIAssistant"
fastboot devices also reads my phone, but i'm nowhere near being able to do any useful commands
Hi Guys. I had my solution to this for Pocophone F1. Same DPI bootloop. This solution works for locked bootloader and USB debugging OFF.
