off the topic you are asking about but one thing you are going to be disappointed about with the Streak/T-Mobile combo is the lost of 3g/hspda connection. I really miss the H speed connection when I use the HD2 before I got the streak. I have to use Opera Mini again for faster loading like I did back then with my HD(different from HD2). I don't see much difference with the mod either by editing the build.prop by adding a few commands from the previous thread.
P.S. - Can't comment on your question because I bought my Streak unlocked directly from Dell. If you've been with AT&T for at least a few months I believe, you can call Customer Care and ask for an unlock code. You can say you are going out of the country for a week if you need an excuse.

Hi Unknown, I got my streak direct from Dell too. Question: when I am in an H network area, my old htc displayed H, etc. Now, when I am in the same area, the Streak displays 3G. while in 3g, I go to Settings> About Phone>Status>Mobile Network Type and it says H there. Then it changes to 3 or Edge when I am in other network areas.
Does it mean I am getting the h signal even though the status bar at the top doesnt display the h? I do notice good streaming (for clips not requiring wifi) and signals without turning on wifi.
And yep, if FunzieBear switches to Tmobile. That streak will have no 3G service at all....

I just miss the big screen on it I guess ilk just carry both hah and use the wifi of this phone :/ , is the speed toleratable atleast ? I don't care if its not super fast I mainly gonna use it for social networking and calls and text . A video here and there ,

Which radio for HSDPA on O2 UK? Can't get it on 1.50 :o(

I've just got a T-mobile Ameo, unlocked it, upgraded radio to 1.50 and added the AP Dual ROM.
Not sure if I need to change any settings anywhere but I can't for the life of me get anything other than a "G" showing up and very slow connection speeds to match.
I've definitly got it in my area so my next step was to try a different radio. Does anyone have any recommendations which one works on O2/UK or things to try before changing radio?
Many thanks

do a download speed test as i found on t-mobile the icon does not change to "H" with the t-mobile official roms it just shows 3G
Tried all the speed tests. Can't remember the exact results but at the time I was comparing it to the same sim card in my Orbit which is GPRS only and the speeds were about the same.
I'm not even seeing a 3G though, just the G
Ever thought that maybe that area doesn't have HSDPA coverage yet?

Stupid question I'm sure, but ur SIM is 3G enabled isn't it? When I upgraded an old vodafone account to support 3G, they had to send me a new SIM that was enabled for the service.
And my bosses British Telecom SIM card in my Ameo only showed GPRS until they enabled 3G on the account/sim, at which point it then started showing 3G.

my o2 sim's are not 3g sims
Think you could well have it there mate.
I've just tried 1.45 and 1.47 radio's with the same results (just the G showing)
Will geton to O2 tommorrow
O2 are useless when it comes to data, last I checked they did not yet have HSDPA, and had a different pricing structure for data over GPRS and 3G, over GPRS you could buy a data bundle, but over 3G the best you could do was add a £5 add on that gave 4MB, after that it was a £3 per MB charge! imagine paying £2400 to download a Divx movie, you could go and buy the movie in Hi-def plus a Hi-def player plus a Hi-def TV to watch it on for that sort of money!
anyway bringing my post on topic
1) It is true you need a 3G sim (uSim) aswell as a 3G phone
2) It is possible that your area has 3G coverage but not HSDPA
3) Check the cost of "3G data" on your package before you go wild

Not my experience. I have HSDPA on O2 without a problem on my 7500 and laptop (using the O2 USB modem), so long as there is a 3g signal it usually gets an HSDPA download. The 3g symbol will change to an H.
I am using the standard HTC WM6 ROM with Radio 1.5
I have the O2 Web Max tarrif, so I have unlimited data.
I used to disable 3g on my Exec by going into the Phone Settings and setting the Band settings to GSM only instead of Auto (WM6 on the Exec was very poor at swtiching between the 2) - have you looked at that ?
Clearly if you don't have a 3g SIM that will be a problem too.

as a business customer maybe, but try adding web max to a voice tariff so you can have 1 sim does all (like T-mobile do) I think you will find that O2 don't support it !
I pay £37.50 PM for 900 Xnet Anytime mins and unlimited HSDPA data ! what are you getting ?
Well, the first person I spoke to at O2 they told me it has nothing to do with the sim card, he said it was because the HTC advantage is not surpported on the O2 network.
I politely asked to speak to someone who has an ounce of common sense. To which he said he was a manger and he knew more than most
I re-called and the next person I spoke to agreed its probably the sim and I'll need to go into a store and get a new sim card.
Off I popped to the nearest store, but the poor bloke serving had never even heard of HSDPA, let alone what it was.
I asked him if I could possibly try one of their sims in my phone to see if I can get HSDPA and he agreed to let me try his. Before he opened his phone I noticed an H on his screen so I told him what the H stood for.
Anyway sure enough it worked but when he tried registering a new sim to my number their computer system said no
He gave a me number to call to get a new sim sent to me but as expected it took me another two attepts until I found someone who had the slightest idea what I was talking about.
Finally £14.99 and 5 hours later the new sim should be in the post.

you should have said 3.5G it's laymans term for hsdpa and oiks in phone shops understand it.
New sim arrived today and I'm up and running on 3G/HSDPA
The only odd thing is it seems to be constantly be switching between 3G and H.
90% of the time it says 3G then if you hit a link when browsing it'll switch to H. As the new page is loading though it'll swich from 3G to H two or 3 times.
Does this sound normal to you?
Glad it turned out to be something fairly simple (once you actually found someone with an ounce of sense). Mine flicks between 3G and HSDPA fairly regularly - it tends to say HSDPA until a data connection is established, at which point it drops back to 3G

It shouldn't say 'H' until you're connecting or downloading. As soon as you start receiving data it will switch to 'H', although sometimes my 3G would mysteriously switch off entirely in my office (on my Hermes AND Ameo) and I'd be stuck with GPRS until I restarted or waited for about 15 minutes. Strange.

Awful internet spped <50k full 3g, orange?

Maybe a coincidence that I have recently done a factory reset on my sim-free unlocked phone on Orange, but my internet speeds are awful, no better than dial-up with full 3g signal.. Checked mobile network settings and still has Orange profile...
Im sure pre-reset, speeds were good and was getting 300k speeds on 3g..
Could I have deleted some settings???
Probably a coincidence. Where did you get your orange sim?
T-mobile (same company) restrict internet speed unless you buy direct from them.

Was a contract deal through CPW.. I did read about TMobile restrictions which is why I went for Orange, as I couldnt find anything saying they did the same...
T-Mobile UK restrict the speed even if you buy direct them from them.
That's one of the reasons why I'm getting my PAC this week...
Tmobile here no restriction

I have T-mobile sim and Orange and the Orange is way slower over hs, lucky to hit half a meg speeds but on T-Mobile i can easily hit close to 2meg speeds.
I also have full bars of HS with orange but only 1-2 with T-mobile but still get the higher speeds.
Orange U.K 3G is rubbish. It's at least 4 times slower than other networks like Vodafone. There is already a thread on this issue. Which has detailed comparisons. Search.

Fixing Signal Issues (3G/H Switching)

Hi
Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I am in a good area for signal and with previous phones am consistently on H. With my S2 it frequently switches between 3G and H even if it stays in the same spot. It will do it every few minutes.
This is causing havok when I try and tether and my Transformer and laptop keep getting signal interruptions.
Does anyone have a fix? I have Fast Dormancy disabled and I'm aware there may be some other engineer menus that have signal settings in that might work?
Thanks
Paul

Interesting.. And I thought it was just my network vodafone
Mine also switches between G/H/H+ all within 5 secs... yeah 5 seconds and it is kinda annoying.
Are you on GIFFGAFF as stated on you profile? or other network? cause I thought if might have do to something with vodafone..
Otherwise may be its something to do with the hardware settings, I too would like to know the answer
I've kept mine to use WCMA all the times...

Yes, I'm on giffgaff.
Glad its not just me. Maybe the antenna is a little too sensitive.
Anyone know the secret code to get to the GSM/UTMS bits?

OK. Found the 2263 code but that seems to want to enable/disable actual bands.
Am I looking into it too hard!?

Now, for me wouldn't 3G and H/H+ both be considered as WCDMA under Mobile Network Settings? G and E would be GSM right?
If that is the case, staying on WCDMA wouldn't fix the problem.

Your phone shouldn't lock onto a H/H+ signal unless it has started to download data. That's how the protocol works.
If your phone is sitting idle it should be on 3G.
You should only get H/H+ when your phone is actively downloading.

OK. So how can I stop it flicking between the H and 3G. For instance when I am trying to stream it will get interrupted, or if I'm wirelessly tethered?

i'm from tunisia and have the same pronlem here.
Please developers help us to get rid of this 3g/h issue.
Guys,
I got the same problem here i n Brazil using a VIVO carrier.
I set in CONFIG -> WIRELESS AND NETWORK -> MOBILE NETWORKS -> NETWORK MODE -> WCDMA ONLY
I don`t know why it worked but now its working fine.
Could you test?

No problems to report in Amsterdam.
I'm biking through the whole city to get to work, no disconnects using TuneIn or Google Music. Provider is Vodafone, HSDPA+ all along the way.
Its Android issue
Think when iPhone, Windows phones have not had this issue, wat else other than Android. I have tried 3 different handsets. 3 different network - 3, O2 and Vodaphone. All has same problem. Android is the only thing common. I have been scouring the internet and posted everwhere possible since Dec 2010 from when I became Android user. There is no solution. Everone seems busy making their own Android versions and apps. Result there is no basic data and voice stability on Android. Have been relying on my decade old treo to receive n make important calls. Wonder where this is going. My heart n soul seems to sway to the iPhone lately. Atleast wat they give works well.
Its Android issue
BTW those config settings are useless too. I have even used the code to get into hidden menu and change config but no use. It's the same issue. From H to 3g and from G to E I gsm.
Sorry for the question, but whats the problem with switching? I have the same thing but is not a problem for me.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Nobody should get worried about that switching, THIS IS NORMAL!
H/H+ is an high speed 3G protocol.
Basically:
1. 3G means DL 384 Kbps tops. The modem is under 3G signal most of the time. Whenever something on your phone starts checking/d-loading it communicates at THE BEGINNING under 3G protocol. Also, long ping time> 210 ms.
2. HSDPA max 14 Mbps/HSDPA+ can go as high as 42 Mbps ( topped only by cell tower). If there's need for large packet data or shorter ping time, IT AUTOMATICALLY SWITCHES TO H/H+(IF AVAIL). Hsdpa consumes more power and it's a communication protocol. When connected under H/H+ error correction bits are transmitted along data stream. It's like switching your home wifi on b/g/n. ...or like the automatic gearbox going to overdrive.
If you see a lot of this switching it means there's a lot of downloading/uploading going on.
I have it switching too between 3g and h on o2 and its making the internet so unstable you cannot do anything at all. This is certain not normal as the switch happens every second and continues to do so until phone is off
Mine is also switching to 3G once connection is idle for about 3 seconds. So far no problem and it uses less power than my SGS1 for browsing since my SGS1 doesn't switch to 3G when idle.
Mine is no problem between this signal switching, check your area or check your country maybe too much communication devices there so that's why it is distorted. Just use the common carrier with plenty of cell sites for a good signal of your phone.
What do i need to dial to fix it to 3g only from 2g?

[Q]need help connecting to t-mobile network

ok i got my streak unlocked off of amazon.com. I'm already a t-mobile customer and i go to my t-mobile store to get a new sim card becuase i lost my old one.so they give me a new one. I go home put my new sim card into my streak and nothing happens. It recognizes my sim card it just won't let me connect to t-mobiles network. i tried to connect to there network outside becuase i thought that it need a better place to pick up a signal but it keeps coming up"cannot connect to this network at this time. Please try again later"
P.s the streak when searching for networks sees t-mobile it just won't let me connect.also the signal bars has a little tiny x over it
You may not be aware of this though it has been discussed here more times than I care to count, but unlocked Streaks will not see T-Mobile 3G signals and are limited to EDGE. It sounds like you're not getting an EDGE signal where you are, and thus cannot connect.
If your Streak is one of the AWS models designed to work on T-Mobile, then disregard my comments about the Streak itself. There is a network issue in that case.
Smart..... I too, have a factory-unlocked Streak on T-Mobile.... The last time I needed a new SIM card, it took about 5-hours from the time I bought the new card before it actually would register on T-Mobile's network..... So it may just take a little more time in your case. Also, check your APN names..... they're under: Menu/Settings/Wireless networks/Mobile networks/APN names..... It should say under T-Mobile US: epc.tmobile.com; and under T-Mobile MMS: epc.tmobile.com I believe these APN fields automatically populate themselves based on the SIM card's registration to the mobile network, so you may need to give it some more time. Otherwise, call T-Mobile's customer service......
Hope that helps

Also, for the record, everywhere there's T-Mobile 3G coverage, there's also 2G (edge) coverage..... Furthermore, my Streak is absolutely as fast, and occasionally FASTER than my wife's iPhone 4 on aTnT's "3G" network ...... Better still, my monthly bill is $67, while her's is $127.... Anyone who tells you it's too slow to run your Streak on T-Mobile has obviously never actually tried it..... They're just fooling themselves and paying nearly twice the price to do so...

I paid $1 for a T-Mobile SIM that I got in the mail. Easy to follow instructions to activate my Streak 5 on T-Mobile. For now, I chose the $2 per day "pay as you go" plan. As expected, I get Edge connection speed. OK, for Google Maps with traffic, email and browsing. Not fast enough for watching NetFlix movies. So far, I get great reception at home and at work.

3g/ h/ g/ 4g ??

hi guys, the idea behind me getting a 4G was that id hope id get a decent data signal out in the countryside where i work..
i had a samsung galaxy ace for a few weeks which only just uploaded facebook pice, either with a H sign and two arrows or a G sign,
when i used to work in town and i had a HTC the internet was fine im presuming i was running on 3G.
What are all these ? the H ? the G ?
and is the 4G signal even available in the uk yet ? or is it just my area is a bit slow on catching up with 4G ?
ive tried all these 3g/network boosters but to no avail.
it would be nice to be able to listen to on line radio and upload pics at a fairly reasonable rate.
ideally for work tomorrow,
has anyone got a program that will work and boost my signal at all ?
thanks
If you don't have good signal, you don't have good signal. The only way to improve it is, get closer to the tower.
Buying a 4g phone has zero impact on 3g reception.
sudo passwd root
I know you can change the 4G icon to H, so I think H means 4G and G means 3g. Just a guess though.
