I bought my S2 from Hong Kong and its rooted and on XEU firmware etc, in HK it seems I can pick up 3G, but when I come back into China, Guangzhou all I get is Edge, is there anything I can do as I know there is 3G available through China Mobile?
Cheers Guys...
Maybe Guangzhou doesn't have 3G

3: press the menu button( left softkey on your phone)
4: select radio band
5: choose automatic radio band.
6: go back to dial pad and key in *#*#197328640#*#*
7: select debug screen
8: select phone control

Cheers Iznee,
Did the first bit, but having problems on how to get the asterix into option 4 (combi) can't seem to work it out. select menu and type 4 for the line just takes you into the option, how on earth do you select options in debug mode lol

I have a pay as you go 3G sim card, £20 credit on it and on Dolphin plan.
Also, can someone provide a link for the correct java version i need for my phone???
I've been searching google and the search funtion on this site for just over 3 hours now, and it's quickly cheesing me off...lol
I'd be sooooooooo happy and appreciate any help I can get.

I cant help you with your connection settings but with regards to the java thing..
I dont think that the browser has java integrated....
The java thing you see in the start menu is a standalone app for running java based stuff........... as far as I know.
I tried that speedtest site and I couldnt get it going......
sounds to me like the 3g toggle is set to off. (that or you simply aren't in a 3g area.)
you say you can get to mobilegenie, so obviously the connection works. its the same connection whether 3g is on or off, so messing with the settings is unlikely to have any effect.

forget that that's wrong, (well, not strictly wrong, but potentially inaccurate enough to ignore)
its
settings menu all settings connections
I deleted all of the bull **** settings that orange gave me, deleted all my data controllers etc, hard reset, let the phone detect settings automatically.
Now all I do if I wanna use 3G mode, is simply click on or off in comm manager.
But, I have NO clue what roughly download speed should be for 3g....but i used uk broadband speed checker.....always been reliable for me, for years.
My resuly while in 3G mode while sitting on my bed (lol) was 376 Kbps download speed.
I have no clue...is that ok? acceptable for 3g?
cheers
Matt

First off where are you at? Edit, figured out you were in the EU ...
Is this a EU or a TMOUS HD2
If you are in the EU and Have a EU version then 3G should work fine ...
If you are in the EU and have a US version 3g may not work fine ....

Well that certainly looks like a TMOUS Leo ....
Maybe someone can wade in here, but as far as I know, the TMOUS version will not get good 3G in EU ..
easy way to tell if its normal or tmous,,,, is the send key green? is the end key red? if they're both white then its regular, red+green= imported tmous.
the definitive way is settings about phone hardware info flash size. 512 regular 1024 tmous.
it could easily be that the shop simply bought a box of hd2s from t mobile uk, inter store sales, maybe a freelance shop, whatever
oh hang on, cooked rom. no doubt based on tmous stock to unlock the ram, which could be why it's showing as a t mo.
got the box in front of me..says: HTC HD2 T8585..thats about it...will have to open box for 2nd time ever and have a look.
were the 3g download speeds ok?
Matt
ah its hard to tell speeds and what you are vs what you should get. 1 bar 3g is preeeety slow, indoors, sat next to a large electrical output (your pc) maybe a desk lamp, all these things affect speed.
The bbc did some speed tests last year, and orange scored an average of 1.1 Mbps( a third of their advertised speeds), and they likely did static tests, maybe outdoors, probably in main city centers with decent 3 or 4 bar reception at least, so your 376 Kbps, 33% of their average, sounds reasonable. Its not a very exact science, mobile speed testing.
TMOUS has disabled all icons showing things as "E", "H" and "3.5+" etc. Your acess depends on the band you are on (compare specs of the phone with the same in your country). Install custom rom or just toolbar and all icons shall appear correct. If you need apps PM me
I am trying to activate 3g on my x10 and i am not getting the 3g signal on my phone.
wolfbreak rom

Im running Airtel with my CM wolf rom.
I can use both 2G and 3G without any issues.
Check if your sim supports that.Older sims have problems in receiving signals.Suggest you to take a new sim with same number and try.
make sure your area has a 3g coverage of airtel... and make sure you manually make your phone to use 3g network... for that
just
1. got to any homescreen.
2. long press and select widgets.
3.select power control
4. select the toggle switch for 2g/2g
5. go down, down down
6.In chose network modes select 2g/3g only
7.press ok
8. now press the 2g/3g toggle till it displays 3g.
and youre done...
if this dosent helps or you are not getting any network for long time then sorry dude your area is not 3g enabled..!!
HIT THANKS BUTTON IF HELPED..!!
In settings> wireless & network settings > mobile network > uncheck "use 2G network only"
Hope this helps...
Since there is a bug in .587 we cant set only 2G because at reboot it's overwritten by system defaults. Changing radio bands will solve this problem.
1. Dial *#*#INFO#*#* (*#*#4636#*#*)
2. Go to 'Phone information'
3. Press menu and select 'Change radio band'
4. Then select AUS2
The phone wont get 3G because other frequency bands.
PS: It works in EU countries 100%. Idk about other regions.

Hello, this should be interesting but can you give us more informations ?
For example this fix forces the phone only to gms even at reboot ?
Does it affects reception or something else?
thanks
This forces ('restrict') the reception only to 2G bands (GSM)... we are not able to get 3g, until we select the Automatic or EUR band in the info menu... It doesnt change on reboot. Its like limiting the frequencies.

Thanks you, at the moment I'm on .431 but in that menu I don't find "change radio band" or ASU2, but only the mode ... gsm only, wcdma only, unknow, Cdma auto(PRL) and others like these.
Nothing about an ASU2 setting (I'm in EU, Italy)
Maybe is this only in 0.587 firmware?
Tap on menu button on info about phone screen
Wysyłane z mojego MT11i za pomocą Tapatalk 2
Now I'm on .587 and there is no choice for "AS2U" in phone information, you can only set the type, but of course even here if I set gsm only turns back to wcdma preferred at reboot. Have you got a Sony?
Because in our menu there is no possibility to choiche "oem phone settings", while in Samsung in the same menu maybe yes.

Ok, so I found it and seems to work !
I haven't a way to test the network mode, because my sim doens't allow it, but the signal is very strong so I am not in WCDMA.
In settings the phone will show always wcdma preferred also at reboot, but really you are in gsm.
Probably the bug this time is in the baseband so no easily fixable by xda developers, but your way is a very nice workaround!
Good work man ! :good:
How to Flash U Firmware On AT&T and Keep Volte & video calling and get lte band 17
So after Doing some looking around i found out how to get volte and video calling working, and enable band 17 on G930U. I dont take credit for this. i seen it on a different forum and just wanna make sure people know how to fix it.
For starters if you dont have g930u or dont know what it is. heres a great thread about it with easy to follow instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7/how-to/xda-community-love-g930u-t3415875
Okay so after you flash the U Firmware.
edit the others.xml in System/csc. Scroll to the bottom of the xml and change volte and video calling to TRUE. Save and then reboot. The options will be in settings and the video calling icon will be in the dialer.
and to re-enable band I7 Open the dial pad
Type: *#0011# to enter Service Mode (Be very careful with what you do here)
Note: You need to be rooted for this to work
Once in Service Mode, do the following:
Tap the menu button and tap Back
Tap the menu button again and select "Key Input" and enter an upper case Q and press OK
Tap the menu button again and select "Key Input" and enter 4 zeroes (0000) and press OK
Wait 5 - 15 seconds. You'll see the Main Menu

Choose option [1]: SETTING
Choose option [1]: PROTOCOL
Choose option [2]: NAS
Choose option [1]: NETWORK CONTROL
Choose option [4]: BAND SELECTION
Choose option [4]: LTE Band Preference
Choose option [7]: LTE ALL (Or you can choose any band instead)
If you want to go back then tap the menu button and choose Back (Don't press the back key)
Once again guys i take no credit for any of this. ive just seen people looking for the information and decided to put it all together for you
I am just curious, what's the benefit of enabling B17 on the device given that AT&T has B12 MFBI enabled throughout its network?
Does this enable the enhanced LTE voice? When you go to About Device > Status does it show IMS registration status as "Registered"? None of the carrier specific features will work unless the IMS is registered on the AT&T network.

What I understand is that none of the carrier specific features will work unless the AT&T network registers your phone. They have certain models they will recognize on their network for those features. 930U is not one of those models.

IMO this is because of the stupid AT&T policy, not because the phone does not support it.
AFAIK not being able to use band 17 is Samsung's problem right?

The S7 has wifi calling on the ATT branded rom. It's the stupid (or smart in a business sense) way they change things to their own proprietary format. If you want wifi calling then you have to buy their phone, not the U version.

That's what I'm saying it has wifi calling, but it does not work on the ATT network because they changed their rom for their wifi calling, the built in Wifi calling in the U rom does not work with ATT.
Hi , is there anyway to force 3g/4g only on this phone..? I've seemed to try every hidden menu code and nothing seems to work.
The reason I ask this is that I've downloaded a global firmware (171) for this phone and unfortunately my carrier no longer does 2G and when im getting poor 3g coverage it switches to 2g and lose service completely. This never happened on my old carrier firmware as it was setup not to switch to 2g.
I also think it's because I have a single SIM version and this new global firmware is setup for dual Sim.
Anyone got any solutions? Sounds like downgrading firmware isn't a option at the moment...
4G only on Huawei Mate 20 Pro works!

Hello,
yes, now we finally found a solution.
Do exactly as described:
1. Download Settings Database Editor from playstore and open it
2. Look for hw_networkmode_preference and edit the stock value "9,6,2,1" to "11"
3. Restart the device
4. Open Settings Database Editor
5. Click on + Add new setting at the top
6. Type "hw_add_4g_only" (without " ") and press save changes
7. Type in your country code, example "502" Malaysia or "262" Germany. Press save changes
8. Type "hw_add_4g_only" (without " ") and press save changes (YES, REPEAT STEP 6)
9. Type in your country code, example "502" Malaysia or "262" for Germany and press save changes (YES, REPEAT STEP 7)
10. Restart the device and VOILA!
Now you have access to ALL network modes. Select "LTE" or "4G" for 4G only functionality.
Like this, you have stable Internet nearly where ever you go, without dropping back to overcrowded 2G/3G Networks.
Best,
Stefan
i know this thread a month old but i tried this and 4g only option is there but it also removes all other options which for obv reasons is not good if in a non 4g area, is there a way to add the 4g/3g option .
ps: i found an old thread to add the 3g again but have to manually switch between the 2 options
Hey,
My device updated to the new firmware yesterday and I have lost the '3G Only' option. Is there a way to unlock this?
Apologies if this has been asked before but I can only seem to find the 4G solution. Thanks in advance
