I cant believe hat nobody's using sip to make phone calls!

I text for free, make free voice calls and have unlimited data.
I've had 3 Verizon plans for: $45, $50 and now $110 family plan.
Did u know, u can get unlimited texts and data with 0 minutes for $55 before ur discount?
Did u know u can get unlimited data, 0 texts and 50 minutes for $50? (The $50 plan isn't eligible for the monthly discount)
Use Google voice for unlimited texts.
Use Csipsimple + GV Callback + Sipgate + Google Voice number for free texts and talk.

I use groove IP. Does all the work of sip gate and gv callback, but without the hassle. Best app I've ever bought.

With the G2 and now the mytouch 4G having wifi calling, has anyone got a hold of their apk and ported it to the vibrant??? I could use wifi calling in my house as my tmobile 3G reception is dead when I'm inside. Many thanks.

Reading some early reviews it looks to be on the myTouch 4G and working.

The issues with the app appear kernel related, which means we'll likely be at the mercy of source releases unless someone gets very lucky. If it's any consolation people are having issues getting it to work on the G2...
Most likely by the time it's "fixed" for the G2, and the MT4G is actually available the solution will be imminent.

it works in the rom leak for the N1 too,if anyone wants to try porting it. it's the MT4g rom ported to the nexus,it's in their android development section.
I'm not sure what exactly you mean by WiFi calling (VOIP, SIP or something completely new and/or different all together) but Skype now works using the JP* Froyo builds out there. The only thing is it restricts you to WiFi only if it detects that you're in the US.

This is kind of like the wifi calling that Blackberrys have but different. Say you are out of a network area maybe out of country or in my wife's case at work in a hospital if you have wifi access then this app will allow you to make calls over TMobiles network using your plan minutes. This is not free calling nor will you be able to switch back and forth. If you are on a call using the wifi app and you leave the range of the wifi signal your call will be dropped.
There is another thread in Themes and Apps that has the apk. I have it on my vibrant but I don't think TMobile has released it fully, kind of like Media Hub was at first, so right now I haven't heard that it's operational for anyone with any phone.
Oh and I've heard people spreading rumors that you'll have to pay 9.99 a month but according to tmobile's website it will be free as you will be using your own minutes. Here is a link to the official tmobile Wifi cslling Faqs page http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm24195.xml

So if you want to do free VoIP calling (not using your T-mobile voice minutes) within the USA you
1) Get a Google Voice account (if you don't already have it)
2) Get a free Sipgate account (gives you a phone number that can be called)
3) Get SipDroid to conenct to your Sipgate account
This is what you do
Setup your Sipgate account.
Install Sipdroid to your phone and connect to Sipgate
- set your Sipdroid to only be on when you are on WiFi
Setup your google voice to forward to your Sipgate phone number
When you make outgoing phone calls use your google voice
Voila! You now have unlimited incoming and outgoing phonecalls through GoogleVoice and Sipgate over your WiFi.
Technically you could do this over 3G as well. Not sure how the quality is though.

I just signed up for sipgate, but they only offer 60 free minutes with the free account.

Is that free outgoing minutes? If you utilize Google Voice what happens is that Google Voice first calls your Sipgate account and then calls the person you call. Which means that your call with be an incoming, which makes it free. You have to utilize Google Voice for this however to work properly.
any chance of an app for this bad boy?
I don't think so. I'm pretty sure the network does not support it, only T-Mobile does unfortunately.

This might not be what you ask but you could use GV+Sipdroid+Wifi to make & receive call (of course making free calls within US only).

I've been trying to make sipdroid work on my tbolt with no luck for several days, i think verizon's blocking it over LTE seeing as how they are offering a data only plan for this device. data only + GV + SIP equals unlimited service
If you download both google voice and sip droid, and set up google voice first, you can set it up to make free VOIP calls all day. (Well not free but you get 2000 free minutes per month on the free pbxes account sip droid auto sets up for you).
Works fine for me over verizons 4G LTE network. Great voice quality!
Hi guys right now i am using CallsUnLtd to use my Vonage landline a/c to make international calls from my Atrix. But problem is that this app uses my ATT local minutes to make calls (as it calls my Vonage number and then my calls are diverted). So I was wandering if is there any app which lets me use my googletalk a/c or Skype credits to call though Vonage a/c from my atrix ATT dataplan to save my ATT minutes.
or if someone is familiar with callsuntld, then I have one question about Callsuntld App for android; if I can use my sky credit which enables me to call to any USA number for free in this app to save my local carrier minutes which are getting used when I call through this app.
Any help will be really appreciated.

if i use wifi to call, will it charge my phone minutes?
i get conflicting info from reps.

If you are using the wifi calling feature from T-mobile, it uses your minutes. If you're using some sort of voip solution while on wifi it will not. I have the same plan as you and I use GrooveIP for all calls while on wifi. The sound quality is OK. Some people complain about it, but it's definitely usable, and it keeps me under the 100 minutes of the plan. The other thing about it is that it uses google chat to complete the calls, so you have to have a google voice account (free) and people calling you will have to dial your google voice number. This wasn't a big deal for me since I was already using google voice and everyone used that number to reach me anyway, but if all your contacts have your cell #, you'll have to get them to start using a different number to call you. You can set up google voice so that it forwards all calls to your cell and to google chat simultaneously. Then set up GrooveIP to only work when on wifi. This way you'll get your calls whether on wifi or not. It also works on 3g/4g, or is supposed to. I didn't need to even try as unloading the calls when on wifi keeps me well under the 100 cell minutes, so I can't tell you about the quality of that.

It depends on where the call was started from. If your call originates on wi-fi and you have the feature on your plan then it is free to you. If the call originates on the T-Mobile network and you then go to a wi-fi call it will be using your minutes. YOU MUST have the free wi-fi calling feature on your account as well for it not to use your minutes.
This isn't specific to the Rezound, but how do you block your phone from receiving or sending text messages. I couldn't find the option on their website, nor any other guide for doing it.

that's basically it yeah. I called long ago to have them disable it. you pretty much should call for any adjustments. I also have it set so if I use up my minutes it automatically declines calls so I don't get charged overages. I have the cheapest 200 minute plan & mainly just use Skype.
You know if you go over you can just call and say you want to bump up to the next plan, no overages, then the following month you can go back down.
Is that the senior plan or whatever? The two hundred minute plan? Will theyvlet me on that because I don't use many voice minutes a month. If u do I could just use groove IP to make a few calls.

its a plan that's not officially offered anywhere, you'd have to call Verizon and ask them to put you on it. I didn't know about it myself until I called once asking if I could just have data only onmy plan stating that I don't really use my phone for calls. they wouldn't give me data only(unless it was for a tablet) but then said they had a special 200 minute plan instead which aaved me $10/month so I took that.
Quick ?, I am new to Verizon. If I use google voice for sms does that go against my sms plan? Also If I use skype that wont go against my minutes? I'm curious about this too cause I Just went over my 1000 text limit today and still have 5 days left in my cycle. Is like to use Gvoice if I can.

Google Voice uses only data. Your texts with GV do not count against your SMS limit.
Google Voice does not count toward your number of sms.
Skype does not count against your minutess.
Both count against your data.
Google voice forwards to your phone number, so it does use your minutes.
