First of all, thanks for this forum -- rooted my NT (first android device) yesterday using the instructions here and it's delightful.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had a solution or workaround for using multiple dictionaries?
I'd like to be able to read foreign language content using the instant lookup function, but it seems that this is not built into the nook (unbelievable). Being able to replace the default English-English dictionary would also be great. Although this is a feature on the Kindle, it isn't available on the Kindle for Android app (also unbelievable). I looked at other eReader software, but "dictionary support" seems to amount to ColorDict. I'd be more than happy to splash out for some quality dictionaries, but only if I can integrate them into the reader.
The only thing I've been able to find is this, a Russian language forum where the OP seems to have gone into the file system and manually replaced the stock dictionary. I'll gladly do that if it comes down to it but was wondering if there was a less tedious / more obvious way.

I tried to figure out how to change the language to German last night, but had no lucky at it. ("ro.sys.locale.language" is set to "de", as well as the country code is "DE" but yet nothing has changed.)
I think that the B&N Nook shows an incredible lack of foreign language support, and is basically I guess targeted as a "US only" device. This probably explains why the Out Of Box Experience only presents one with US timezones when it starts up. v_v
So frustrating/ridiculous! Yes, it's a "US device" but it's foolish of B&N to ignore the tens of millions of people in the US who speak or study other languages (Spanish speakers alone are pushing 30 million).
I hope the hack I mentioned in my original post works. Still waiting on my SD card to try it out.
Anyway, I posted on the B&N forums about this:

If anyone agrees please click the laurel leaf icon so that this issue can (maybe) get some attention.
I agree... it actually upsets me quite often that US companies typically completely ignore other languages within the US.
Apple? First thing it asks me is "what language do you want to use?" They built that flexibility in from the start. On Windows? You buy the English version, and you're stuck with English (yes, Vista and later, you can download language packs after). So, then end up having to customize and sell different copies of the OS to every different market.
OSX: we build one binary, and hey, look it works.
Windows: we have to build a different binary for every different language, and oh, some of them might not work, because English is treated specially from all of the other languages.
Posting in case someone finds it helpful
My personal workaround for the time being --
I downloaded the German version of Kindle for Android, which comes with a built-in monolingual Duden dictionary. (Fortunately my German is strong enough for this to work. Quite useless for other languages/ability levels though.)
The downloaded dictionary appears to be visible in the file system with *.mpb and *.prc file extensions. I wonder if it would be possible simply to manually swap them out with a dictionary in the same format?
Install coolreader and colordict, then downlowd whatever dictionaries you need. There are many dictionaries available online.
@wwmhf -- After reading your post I decided to dig a little deeper. I downloaded GoldenDict and then discovered lingvodics.com.
Okay, absolutely no more angst over this issue. Thanks!

Hello could you please update the title and add [resolved] at the start.
Thanks

Hi, try d/l an app from the market called more locale. Don't know if that suit your need of the dictionary thing, but definitely give your NT more locale to choose from (with most of the menus and some system apps name translated).
I'm on a rooted device with snowball mod in HK and wanted to play with the google voice search function for Cantonese and find no way of activating it since I can't choose any language apart from English US and UK (duh....)
After installing the more local app, I can select google voice to work with Cantonese search.
Perhaps Veronica can considering putting this under the NT Tips and Trick sticky for other poor souls that need an alternate locale.

Hey pal... I´m thinking about buying a Nook Touch. It´s cheaper and more beautiful than eReaders available in Germany. Nonetheless, I´m Brazilian - neither English nor German is my native language. I would like to have this Duden Dictionary for German books and whatever the original platform has for the english language.
How could I do that? Would you make a tutorial step-by-step for me? I´m totally rookie on these issues.
Thanks!
Hi All DS5 users
I've just finished making of a few wallpapers - about "girls" =] <no porn!> and decided to share with u.
All pix are landscape [i prefer using my DS5 as a teblet "mode"] Cutted to Size: 800x480 px,
So if u r using an app like "MultiPicture Live Wallpaper" (my favorite one) they'll look wonderfull - and could change automatic/random in time. (eg. from one folder form sd)
Above app want cut/shrink/ext. your bg image - it will display it as it shoud (but - there are so many options...)
I hope u'll enjoy it =D
Greets !
The file is rar packed, and need pass to unlock it,
use: xda
http://djmiks.active.pl/girls.rar
Explain to me just why password protection would be needed when you've given the password in your post?
Simple, this file is exclusively for XDA (DS5) users...
Its "protected" from "others" =)
Except anyone can see the link, so it does not matter if the file is password protected. XDA removed the requirement that people register to see links quite some time ago.
Question: did you limit your work to simply resizing and cropping images you found on 4walled.cc?
I have impression that you're not nice.
You dont need to download this file - no one tells you so...
I think, that your comments are too superfluous - are generating unnecessary forum traffic.
Probably, you are not understand policy of goodwill, because I have made this file with such intention, and "YES" cropping each picture to a certain size. [only source is different]
If you have nothing nice to say then I suggest you steer clear.
I must not explain you the problem of password, it is just as it is and apparently have to be so.
Sadly, I was being nice in trying to let you know that password protecting your archive was a useless gesture for the reason stated (XDA removing the requirement to register to see links). I also wanted to know whether you had done the work yourself or simply cropped existing images that you found for a reason: some of them were badly done and one of them actually shows parts of the female anatomy that I suspect you didn't want shown.
Instead I get nothing but whining from you because I pointed out that everyone can see the links whether they own a Dell Streak or not, and asked you whether you did the work yourself or simply cropped images. You have my sympathy since you seem unable to handle legitimate criticism and questions. I would recommend that you remove your link and host it somewhere that does require registration to see images. Android Central or MoDaCo might be a good bet.
Have a nice day.
I think it's cool he made the wallpaper/s, I think it's cool he posted them here for others to download, he likes the fact there's a password involved and there can be no doubt that he is aware anyone can access the password
I don't think it's cool I came in to see what he's posted and find unnecessary drama

Yep, 3 weeks
Hello folks,
I try since a few days to edit apks. I fail so hard that I started questionning myself. I got this smart phone just recently, but I managed within a day to root it and to put a new ROM onto it. So I can't be that stupid.
No I downloaded an app, which for some reasons contains the "Send SMS without notification" thingy. I would like to remove it, since there is no reason for the app to do it in terms of its functionality and it is somewhat from a dodgy source.
I went to all of the threads here and checked the programs like:
APK Tool
Easy APK Editor
etc. etc. pp. pp.
I follow the instruction closely BUT there is never an explanation of HOW to use this tool. It is always said how to prepare usage, but never how to actually do it.
I am not a programmer and English is not my mothers tongue. I just don't know what Decompile/Compile means, I don't know how to use this "Batch" files if not explained well.
And I am sure I am not the only one. I could not find ANY good explanation on that topic just people writing "Works fine" or "Does not work fine".
Any can help here and take a tool and write a real APP Edit manual? Or any other solution here?
Thanks guys,
this forum is great, keep up the good work!

Hi. Has anyone the pons german-german dictionary app for android.
its name is"msdict pons Grossworterbuch"

I'm sure this is the wrong place to ask for that.
Sorry. Where I should ask?
Hi
This is for my autistic son please help.
I have a youtube clone app ( called Vtube) on my old kindle that my son uses to access youtube. Today the app seems to have big problems with the search function working and as far as I can tell its because youtube have changed the URL of the mobile version of the website. Thus finctionality has been limited on the old url.
But the URL is hard coded into this older app.
I know what the new URL is. Is there any way I can break into the app (developers no longer contactable through amazon or internet as far as I can tell) in order to change the simple URL line please?
I am really hopeful there is a developer software that will access the app, then I just need to change that one line.
Is this possible please?
My sons autism means its VERY difficult for him to change, so accessing it via a browser is a no-no sadly.
Please help.
Sorry for bumping this but I didnt know I posted it in the wrong section and then it was kindly moved by a mod but because of time is well off the front page so nobody would see it here in the right place. So just bumping sorry.
