Hi everyone, had a weird thing happen after I tried to upgrade to the Perfect Storm 1.5 ROM. I flashed the new radio & installed the ROM - everything seemed to go fine, but after I my phone came up, any app that I went into that required root didn't work. They all said my phone wasn't rooted... The superuser was still there. I tried doing a factory data reset but still ran into the same thing. So I flashed the previous radio back to my phone & went back to the other ROM that I was using - my phone at least acknowledges that it's rooted now & all my rooted apps work. But what the heck happened? Why did my phone want to act like it wasn't rooted? I thought about trying the other Gingerbread ROMS but I'm afraid of running into the same thing as I did with the Perfect Storm. Any thoughts / ideas? Thanks!
Gingeritis....try it

Ok, thanks! How long have you been using this rom?

Hi guys. I have probl.
I had new 2.2.2 official rom with which i wasn't satisfied. Then i decide to turn back on 315 2.0 old official rom, but when i put it back he started to reboot (reset) mobile phone a few times and than stopped. But then once i tried COpilot and start using GPS and he again start to reboot. So i thought that is a problem with rom, but when i update it with this new version of official rom...he also start to do reboot by himself, even i use GPS or for example facebook aplication. WTF IS WRONG? Fastboot is original, rom is official...

Try to reflash> is all I have got from the forum!
Even my life has become ugly with 351 !! Damn 2.2.2 !! ( I mean damn the last ".2" ) hehe.
but, hey, why dont you try going to 318? that is looking like a stable base, where many people are!
and, dont forget. do a factory reset after your upgrade!
apparently that is also known to do away with some typical issues, similar to what you see with the Pilot app!
Sony.
btw, the way you went back to 315 is by 'update.pkg' of 315 on SD card and via 'recovery mode' ?
<nothing is rooted, right?>
Oh sorry, it was 318... not 315. And it was fresh clean instalation of new rom.not upgrade.
Reflash? hmmm?
I'm having probelms after flashing the supra ROM for the second time. It won't let me post on the thread so I don't know where else to post. It all worked perfect the first time, but now after installing about half my apps it won't install anymore because it says there's no room even though I have 603 MB free. Any idea on how to fix this? It worked fine the first time, I switched to another ROM and wanted to switch back, and then I wiped everything and then reinstalled. Tried twice but same problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Have you tried a full wipe before reinstalling?? If you think that you may want to go back to a rom you should do a nand backup before installing the new rom that way all you have to do is restore the nand.
Yeah I did a full wipe
This happened to me too, on the first install. I just flashed a different ROM
Did it work ok when you flashed it back to supra?
I flashed back to Chogardjr3D and it worked fine. I just tried SteelROM, and it did the same thing. I would love to find out why this is happening. Makes no sense to me
me neither
This was happening to me on every ROM I flashed. I think it has something to do with Google syncing back apps after a clean install. I disabled the Google backup and restore and now all seems to be fine. Again, not sure this is the exact problem. Could just be coincidence.

Yeah I flashed a different rom and it worked fine

Alright, i have run into a problem.
I bricked my phone a while back so i flashed back to stock through ODIN. I used z4 root the first time i flashed so i used it again and everything seemed fine. i installed rom manager TB and everything was working fine. THEN, i flashed CyanogenMod- Trigger Redux build 17 through recovery.
Everything seemed fine at first, superuser was installed and i could grant permissions, CWMrecovery was working and everything was great.. but then...idk hooowwww, but busybox just didnt work and it said i wasnt rooted. TB stopped working. and all my other root needed apps didnt work because BusyBox wasnt running because of my missing root.
but recovery still works, superuser still works and gives me super user rights, and my rom still runs perfectly so ive been avoiding asking questions til now.
i heard to try fixing permissions and still no go. and z4 root wont work now (of course)
So i guess my question is: whats going on? do i have a bad root, did i not root completely, should i reroo?(if so, what method) what should i do?
If anyone knows what i should/could do please let me know.
Sorry for the noobness..
i also need some kernel info, but that can wait
Android version:
2.3.5
Kernel version:
2.6.35.7
Mod version:
CyonogenMod-Trigger Redux-build-17
try re-rooting with superonelick(latest version)
Flash the latest trigger. No data should be lost if you are running it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156123
If the problem persists (it won't) then download busybox from the market.
Worst case, use my noob guide to Odin and flash trigger.... 15 minutes tops
Oh, drhonks kernel, Bali is amazing with trigger
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181167
Thanks! I will give that a try tomorrow!
And I've looked at Bali and heard good things. Could I flash it without re-flashing trigger and "being rooted"

Yes, but you need to update trigger. It doesn't wipe.
Alriiiight
Once again, Thank you!

Not the same as what Noob4Life is posting.
First of all, I'm in the UK and was running the stock 2.2 or whatever was the stock was for Orange in the UK a month back, until I finally decided to upgrade to CM7.
A few weeks went by, all was awesome. Until last week my Wifi stopped working, my bluetooth stopped working and my Mobile hotspot stopped working. And looking around on a few posts on here, it seems that it is hardware based.
So what I'm asking is, does anyone know of a way I can go back to the stock 2.3 that has just been released in the UK? So it seems like I never did anything to the phone and then I can see if it is infact hardware, or software based. So if it is hardware related, I'm hoping I'll be able to get a free repair / replacement, as I have insurance. But from what I've seen, it will cost me if I take it in with CM7 on.
Thanks for any help anyone is able to provide.

Like Sexywacko said, first try out a fruitcake or another rom - best to take the new AT&T with the corresponding radio found here.
If it still doesn´t work, try another one. If all goes bad, you have to get the SBF from the OrangeUK GB-Update found here - extract the system, boot and webtop + the radio and fastboot flash those. This comes as close to stock as you can get without using SBF+RSDlite...This post will help you.
And don´t be afraid - I read on multiple occasions, that people had no problem getting their unlocked/rooted devices repaired without any waranty-problems. Just don´t tell them!
Thanks for the help guys.
Just put Fruitcakes "2.3.5 System and Boot NO Webtop" on, and turning wifi on is still causing " error " and causing a reboot.
How do I install new radio things? I'm a complete noob at this, and only put Cyanogenmod on using a guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336232 )
And now it's stuck rebooting all the time because it's trying to turn Wifi on.
Flash the 36P radio from the Fruitcakes thread through CWM in the same way you flashed 2.3.5. Remember to wipe cache first in CWM.
Well installing the 36p seems to have done the trick. Thanks alot dude!
Updated to Fruit Cakes 2.3.5 System and Boot NO Webtop with ATT 1.77-36p radio. Seems to have fixed the problem.
Don't want to risk putting Cyanogen back on incase it stops working again.
Thanks for your help again guys

I am using CM7 weekly #3 with Faux stopgap+ 1.0GHz kernel and 36P radio with no issues. Works very well for me.
It's stopped working again. Stupid thing. Going to try and restore it to stock orange ROM and see if that fixes it.
Anyone able to help?
Think I'm just going to give up and " Accidently " drop my phone in the bath and claim on insurance. This having no wifi is doing my head in. I've tried CM7 with " ATT .91 Radio " and " ATT 1.77-36p " radios. And I've tried Fruitcakes 2.3.5 System and Boot NO Webtop with " ATT .91 Radio " and " ATT 1.77-36p " radios and still no success in getting wifi to work for over 2 hours without crashing my phone / not working again.
Motorola Phone Tools isn't picking my phone up properly, it's just picking up my IMEI number, not my Carrier or Model.
Must say I'm at my wits end.
Its obviously. A hardware issue do. A insurance clame. On it cause it sours like the radio is broken

I'm afraid it's looking that way.
Well I've decided to try RSD as my last resort to try and get my phone wifi working. I unlocked the bootloader and installed cyanogen using this Guide. I then put Fruitcakes 2.3.5 System and Boot NO Webtop on and the radio mentioned in this Thread with little success at getting it fully working.
My phone info ATM:
System Info
4.5.133.MB860.ATT.en.US
Android Version
2.3.5
Baseband version
N_01.77.36p
Kernel version
2.6.32.9 [email protected] #2
Build number
4.5.133
I'm thinking of using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19657465&postcount=248
What I'm asking is, realistically, what is the chance of bricking?
Looking to do the same, currently unlocked and rooted running CM7.
Is it possible to install the official 2.3.4 orange UK and have it locked with root access removed?

I downloaded the latest RSD and downloaded this image
Booted phone up in RSD mode ( power button + Volume Up ) then plugged it into my computer. Waited for all the drivers to install. Opened RSD, loaded the image and set it going. Do not unplug it at all until it says " Please boot up phone manually " or something along those lines.
Once it'd done it was loop booting, so I booted it into Android Recovery after pulling my battery out ( Power Button + Volume Down ) and then pressed the Volume up and Volume Down buttons together to get the menu up, then chose " Wipe date/Factory reset " and then " Wipe cache partition " and let it boot up again. Didn't solve my Wifi problem though.
Phoned Orange up today, explained that my wifi, bluetooth and hotspot all stopped working and that I'd already done a factory reset and updated to gingerbread. The guy was shocked that I'd basically done everything on his menu to try and solve the problem. They are sending a guy out tomorrow to give me a replacement phone for £25 on my insurance. Winner!
Hey everyone. I have a friend who has been attempting to root and install roms on his i777 device for a while now and every time it seems like something else gets screwy. I have an HTC so I know little about the process of working on his Samsung device, I thought it would be about the same but it seems way more complicated... Anyway I think all his problems started with a bad ROM he installed unknowingly when he first attempted to root his phone. And since then he has went to ICS then back to Gingerbread and it keeps getting more crazy. He has tried to do a factory reset on it but it fails half way through now so it wont even let him pull that off.
So my two questions are:
1) What is the best way to get this phone completely cleared up?
2) And what is a good/dependable Gingerbread ROM for this device?
I did a bit of digging on ROMs and found several in the "AT&T Samsung Galaxy SII i777 Index" thread. But since I dont have this device I cant try any of them out for him, and like I said early I know little on Samsung devices.
Thanks for any help!

1) Full wipe in CWM.
2) No one uses Gingerbread ROMS anymore (for the most part). As a matter of a fact we'll be getting Jellybean soon! Stick to an ICS rom, I recommend either AOKP or CM9.
EDIT: If he wants more of a stock feel, try out Mystics Glory.
Ok. Number one, if he wiped with the stock ics kernel installed, there's a chance he messed up his phone. The stock ics kernel had a severe bug in it. Number two, after he's no longer in ics stock kernel , do a full wipe including system, data, cache, dalvik, and run kernel cleaning script. Thirdly, there are a number of roms out there. Tell him to try them and see which one fits.

I thought about doing all the wipes as well. I wasnt sure if they would work or not though because he cant backup and the factory restore isnt working. I told him to try it through CWM and recovery apparently neither are working well.
And he doesnt want ICS anymore because they changed how the phone connects with tether. With Gingerbread he just had to freeze Tethering Manager to get it to work in ICS Tethering Manager doesnt exist anymore so the same process doesnt work.
However Im sure he would like an ICS ROM if it unlocked tethering for him. The illuminati ROM on my Vivid unlocked the tethering for me, is there something similar for the i777?

In AOKP you can tether with no issues(it also unlocks it). As far as the other stuff, if he did a full wipe like the post above said, with stock recovery. His phone may be messed up
Alright thanks for the help. I'll see if we can get anywhere this afternoon with AOKP. I'll be back after we see where that gets us! lol
