I just posted this elsewhere as a response to an attachment issue, then thought perhaps others have found even better solutions to replace MAIL, CONTACTS, CALENDAR, TASKS and NOTES
I found better looking solutions for MAIL and CALENDAR but has anyone found better solutions for CONTACTS and an easy way to SYNC NOTES and TASKS with exchange?
I like the look of HTC Sense which I know can't run on our device, so I am looking for Apps that look similar (and have nice widgets)
Here is what I posted as a response to an attachment problem:
I have had that issue on the stock email program. There is something called smart forwarding somewhere in the setup., I think. Allows you to forward without downloading the attachment. However I ended up installing an app called ENHANCED EMAIL which I use instead of the stock app. Also doesn't require my exhange password to unlock the phone (I can use the other unlock choices ) . It this app I don't have the attachment issue. The MAIL gui is much nicer. It uses the same contacts and calendar gui.
Im fact I also use an app called BUSINESS CALENDAR which is an overlay over the calendar gui that is much more like HTC Sense and looks vastly better than the stock calendar app.
Business Calendar also has an excellent widget.

Hey Guys
Just joined the android bunch when the wife got me a new Xperia X10 for my b'day/anniversary. Its awesome and i'am loving every bit of it especially the personalization part of it.
However coming from the iPhone I have a few queries and would be great if someone could help me with it. Have searched the forums and haven't really got any useful info of it (mind you i could have terrible searching skill, btw did anyone see my keys??)
I have two mail id's like most people. One is my personal gmail id and the other is my corporate mail id. I have configured them both onto my phone and I'am indeed recieving all mails without a glitch. Unfortunately I don't have an option of sorts to configure my office calendar to sync with the native app. The calendar option does not exist for the second mail option(The option to sync my personal gmail calendar exists and is working fine).
However while using the iphone3g previously I was able to simultaneously use both the calendars (gmail & corporate) and an update on either of the two calendars from my desktop would show on the calendar.
Question1
Is it possible to have a similar system on the android as well. The backend for my corporate mail is provided by gmail and so is the calendar and everything in it. Someone suggested elsewhere that i could share the calendar to my personal mail and i could use it that way. Unfortunately it not enabled for me and the only option for sharing lets my personal account to see if I'm free or engaged at any time. This would be of very limited use to me.
Question 2
Whenever i receive a mail with a calendar invite on the corporate id, the mail appears empty with a small attachment. Using the preview option on the mail app displays text based data that pretty much random stuff overlaid on the meeting name etc(i guess this is the program info or something). Is there anyway if and when i receive an invite i would be able to add them to my calendar or refuse it right-away etc..
These two queries are the biggest of my worries as of now on the otherwise enjoyable experience. I'm terrible sorry for the long post but thought I'd give as much info as possible.
Thanks for your time and help!!
Cheers!!
PS: Some background info, Phone: Xperia X10i, Firmware 2.1-Update1(India), unrooted, baseband 2.1.54. If there is any other app that would help me do the same(Paid or Free), it would be awesome.
Hi there,
I use my phone in a similar way, I have 4 accounts in my gmail app. 3 corporate and 1 personal. If I can remember back to 2.1 (eclair) you can only have 1 gmail account in that app. Then you have to use the mail app for up to 5 more (not sure about moxier mail, I never used it).
Basically what your best doing is rooting the phone to get it up to 2.2 (froyo) that way use have much more control over what sync's from each account. I would recommend tripnraver's froyo. He has a new 1.2.0 coming tonight. You do have to put up with some minor bugs, but the benefits far out weigh the negatives.
A lot also depends on what type of email accounts they are. Either way froyo is way better for your needs.
If you don't wish to dabble with your new present, wait a few months when sony bring out 2.3.4 gingerbread!
I have had a few close shaves, while flashing my phone but approx 10 roms later, I'm pretty sure it's hard to brick it. Worst case restore it back using the sony software.
Hope that helps.

Hey guys, is anyone missing options to include as attachments in the gmail app? The regular mail app has options to include locations, vCards, videos, voice recordings, etc.
i have the attachments option in gmail,
but i don't have as many options as the stock mail app, either.
i would think that the MAIL app simply has all of them as pre-sets, but if you use GMAIL then you can simply navigate to them using the pop-up suggestion of 'file explorer' or any other apps like 'andro-zip' that you have installed (which also popped up in my gmail attachment option)
Yes, that would be a viable option if I wanted to send something like a document, picture, etc. However, it would be nice to have the integration of the vcard, capture picture/video, send GPS coordinates, and other items that are not specific files on my phone.

good point
although some of those are indeed possible--but strictly from the app in which you would find them (*GPS--Maps app, for example)--
it would indeed be nicer to have just one starting place (gmail) from which all of those could be shared.
I was thinking the functionality was missing, but it seems like it was never implemented? I just looked at my Xoom and it only has my file browser and gallery. I thought my HTC Touch was able to attach these items, but I can't remember as it has been over a year since I have messed with it. Plus it was running some other hero Rom or something like that...

anyone else here use go sms? i can't figure out why, but for the contact pictures, it's pulling everyones picture from their google picture i have on there (which was from syncmypix like MONTHS ago, so they're all outdated)
i have checked "pull pictures from facebook" and have checked email, name and number..and it doesn't work. this worked correctly on my incredible, and it was able to pull their facebook images in gosms fine...won't work with the rezound.
anyone else have any insight? i'm wondering if it's because they got rid of Facebook for HTC Sense and only use the facebook app for syncing now :\
Mine has Display Facebook avatars checked and I have it Match by Name. It seems to prefer facebook avatars over what are in my google contacts. Not sure if any of that helps you :/
wtf mines opposite, it shows google pics over facebook, which is really annoying lol
Mines the same, if I have any Google photos, it shows those instead of Facebook. Where as it shows Facebook on GO Contacts. No matter how I configure the settings. It's weird. Lol.
I had this same issue. What I found out, is the official Facebook app does not support access to the friend photos by third party apps. That's why it uses the google contact photo instead.
The older phones had Facebook for HTC Sense, that obviously is not the official facebook app so it allowed third party access to the photos. I have run into the same issue with SMS popup. Try using Friend Caster to sync facebook photos to your contacts, that'll allow third party apps to access the photos.
I just deleted google photos and it defaulted to the Facebook ones

i cant confirm this works but i have heard it works..

let me know if it does
guys, great responses!
i didn't know friendcaster replaced facebook in terms of contact pics..i tried using it once and didn't really like it's UI.
as for that script, i'm going to run that tomorrow. i'm perm rooted, so he says you should just be able to push some lines of code to get it to work. great find, guys!!
I'm a huge fan of GoSMS, its definitely the best out of the third party sms apps on the Android market!
Handcent on the other hand seems to display up to date contact pictures. Which does it take from though, Google contacts or the Facebook app?
So basically GoSMS previously synced pictures from HTC Sense's Facebook, but now in Sense 3.5 it no longer exists being replaced by the offical Facebook app which doesn't allow access by 3rd party apps :/

I know this thread has been quiet for a couple weeks, but just wanted to confirm that did indeed do the trick. I use Handcent normally, but I did download Go SMS real quick to test and that showed my contact pictures again too.
Hello,
I have an unbranded German S II. Since updating to Android 4.0.3 (through Samsung Kies), the standard calendar widget doesn't work like it used to anymore.
I synchronize with my Google account where I have multiple different calendars for different purposes (work, freetime, projects, etc.). On my phone I can go into the calendar app's configuration and tick the boxes of those calendars I want to have synchronized and shown. It used to work like that and I could make it so that only my work appointments would be shown on the calendar widget on my homescreen.
Now, after updating to ICS, the calendar widget will show all calendars at all times, rendering it less useful. No amount of fiddling with the properties has corrected this. After asking in two other forums, this is my last hope.
I really hope somebody here knows the problem and might be able to help. Or is this really just me? Thanks in advance!
I don't have a direct answer to your question, but if the stock calendar widget isn't behaving how you'd like it to, there's a Play Store brimming with alternatives. I'm sure at least one will function in the way you're hoping.
Yeah, I know. I don't need any fancy, skinnable, customizable calendar apps that fill the android market. I'd rather have the stock widget that just does what I want it to. Seeing as this worked fine before the update, I hoped there was something I could do. Alas, seems as if that is not the case. Thanks though
Hello, i have exactly the same problem. Did you find any solution ?

It's good to hear someone finally acknowledging the problem. I was starting to question my sanity as it seems that out of millions of owners of the SII only I have the problem. Finally someone else speaks up, thank you for that
Sadly, I have not found a solution since. I completely changed the way I organize my events in google calendar. It's not as well organized as it was before but it gets the job done. Still, I would prefer if the calendar worked like it did before...
If you don't want to redo your whole google calendar organization, I guess you could indeed try a third party calendar. The play store is full of calendar apps; I was overwhelmed, because I just want a simple and clean calendar, like the stock one.

When you select the widget, you should be prompted to select which calaendar to display. If it doesn't, check out this alternative widget. You can still use your default calendar, but use this widget instead of the stock:
Simple Calendar Widget
I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 running Cyanogenmod 10, and I am connected to an Exchange 2010 Server. (Although this problem existed with the stock ROM as well.) When I create a new appointment on my calendar from the phone, it shows as a meeting request instead of a "normal" calendar item. It wouldn't be too much of a problem, except for when I try to edit an entry in Outlook it will say "You are changing details for a meeting on your calendar and you are not the meeting organizer."
Has anyone else experienced this? This problem did not exist on my Samsung Captivate running CM9.
Thanks!
Yes, same problem for me.
When you use the S-planner (Samsung's calender) it's all good.
But with CM10 or even with Google's own calender app on a Sammy ROM one is not able to edit all the calender items except the ones which are meeting requests.
This also means that when you delete a calender item which was created by the Google calendar you get a e-mail saying the organizer deleted the calendar item.
Very annoying!
Update on this: it seems that the problem is the Exchange server together with Android. No problem on a iPhone or Nokia.
Already found out that there is one update which is responsible for this. Just have to figure out which.
