i have a nandroid backup of my current rom.. im aware that i have to wipe date if i were to move on from mik's cm7. so will my backup be lost? (can i save the backup on my laptop then put it back on my sd if i wanna restore my backup?)

Yeah. Flashing new roms require you to wipe all (meaning clean install) or it will cause problems. Do a titanium backup if you want to backup your messages/apps/contacts/save games/etc & It's free on the market (premium got a batch operation, so it's faster restoring)

alright thanks for all the help.

i cant seem to be able to get USB MASS Storage mode on.. cant even find the settings to do so. help? =/
when i plug the usb to my laptop.. it keeps asking for the driver.

Check if you have all the updated drivers, if yes then manually switch on usb mass storage by going to settings>>SD Card & Storage (something like that)
Check the "USB Mass Storage" option
If this doesn't work, post here i have got a hard way also

[Q] n00b question about A2SD, CM7 beta3, and widgets

hi
i recently flashed the CyanogenMod 7 beta3 found here
I have an issue with my apps, prob. due to the a2sd stuff. i can't see most of my app's widgets, including the messaging widget. maximum annoyance!! when i put other apps such as facebook in the phone memory, the widget appears in the selection screen, but the messaging app was and is in the phone memory all the time..
HELP WILL BE EXTREMELY APPRETIATED
also, i'm planning to make a vid about flashing the cyanogenmod rom to a phone. who's with me!
i'm having problems with darktremor's a2sd too, it seems to be that it's unable to mount/recognize /sd-ext... i've just backed up with TB, re-partitioned and wiped everything, let's see if a fresh flash enables CM 7 b3/a2sd to recognize /sd-ext -.-"
it keeps gettin stuck at the cyanogenmod animation... it's getting me mad!
there was no way for me to get dt's a2sd working on cm7b3... -.-"

Look at the CM7 thread, in the first post is the solution to your problem, you just need to flash a .zip before flashing CM7..

I think it is native to the system, at least you are able to move apps..
Correct me if i'm wrong
Am I the only one that the choise of the keybord is not stored between reboots?? can someone test please?
(using smartkeyboard pro)
Moved the app to phone memory and worked fine, my bad!
Well, these actions may help you guys "am not sure":
-When installing a widget in CM7, never move it to SD card, it will be only recognized when it's located at phone memory.
-When installing CM7 itself, don't partition your SDcard, just format it using PC or any utility and install CM7 using recovery "so it won't stuck".
-if the stuck thing still happening, download from CM7 topic a Wiper file which will wipe your system setting if wiping is not working on your O1.

I did the partition but flashed the Wiper file, worket fine!
Is thera any way to flash CM7beta4(when it's released) and keep all the apps and configs?
EDIT: Sorry, wrong thread.
When i connect the phone to USB, the widget crash, and also the apps i have to move it to SD because they installing in the phone memory. Dont recognize the Partition.
Sorry for my English.
question
my messaging app (stock) is in my memory, and i can access it, but i cannot access the messaging widget. CAN ANYONE HELP?
I'm not that noob, I can follow instructions, I erased /system using adb, and flashed cm7 many times, partitioning (needs to be done to get darktremor's a2sd working) and flashing a2sd every time, it's just that this time just didn't work... I flashed again doing a "fresh install" and got cm7 to load, but there's no way to get a2sd working... Using "native" cm7's a2sd doesn't just move apps to fat32 partition?

[DISCUSSION]PerfectPeso

I can't post to dev section yet so I will ask my questions here.
To update from peso 1.1a OBB to peso 1.2 what I need to wipe?
Peso 1.2 NBB+fix is better than peso 1.2 OBB?
Yes it is better in my views......bcus now every new rom is based on new bb so no need to change it everytime

Phone FC
Problem is when im dialing the number and presses the call sign. Then it says, "sorry" and the process has stopped, blablabla... FC. BUT: I was able to get hold of the person i rang, but she couldnt hear me tho. The reciever symbol also shows no reception after this FC. Ive rebooted several times, and the issue stays the same.
What can i do to solve this issue?

As far as my problem goes (phone fc), im using PerfectPeso 1.2 NBB.
Flashed with CWM. All works perfectly, except the main purpose with a phone, calling / recieving calls.
I'm having problems flashing the rom....
I originally had IHO (cm7.2) on the phone. Having issues with that so I'm tryin to go with PP. I cleared the cache, dalvick cache, user data, formatted data, system, cache, and boot. I flash PerfectPeso 1.2 NBB on with no problem. Then I try to boot and I'm stuck at the LG logo screen. I've tried fixing the bootloop in the recovery with no luck. Am I doing something wrong?

I tried to reflash the rom, but the same issue appeared. There's a bug with the default theme. They said at the dev. post that the problem was fixed by switching to LunarUI.
As I restored my stock rom i havent been able to test it out, but im sure Trettet will fix the default theme as well.

Only available option in storage settings is erase sdcard with this and many other roms I would try if it doesnt erase ext2 partition???
SDcard works fine with 2.3.3 v20 based roms.
Erase card do nothing, because system doesnt find it.
Ok. Now ive wiped all and reflashed the rom, using LunarUI. The good news is that im now able to call (no phone fc). The bad news is that data wont work (yes, im on NBB), and there's a symbol indicating that the sim card isnt proper installed.
As im just a jr. member, I cant write this in dev. post.

[Q] CM9 build for Atrix

"turl1" made a very nice KANG build for the Atrix, and it works absolutely smoothly. Problem is though, the ROM is using my external, 2 gb SD card instead of the internal 16. Anyone know how to fix? This is v9, by the way.
http://www.jokersax.com/developer-pages/jokersax/cyanogenmod-9-atrix/
Try SD card switch from above. Do full ROM backup beforehand. Prepare yourself that some applications may require reinstall.
More info from Jokersax CM9 thread and/or Turl1's own thread in Development.

If I remember correctly there should be a menu option under

Try that. It works fine in cm 7

Yeah, that option wasn't originally there. But once I installed the newest update (v10) I could enable that. Only problem is that every time I enable that option, I have to reboot my phone to see the effects.
You should just flash the sd card switcher.

What exactly does backup do.

A few days ago i put on Siyah neweset 5.0.1 kernel on my S2 and overclocked but my performance hasn't increased much so i'm gonna put Ressurection Remix ROM now but the first step on the guide says to format my phone and i hate loseing my things, is there anyway to keep my stuff on the new ROM D: ? I'm not sure what to do QQ i don't wanna screw this up, also i'm gonna make a few backups, cuz 1 isn't enough.
Over clocking doesn't increase performance per se.
You can use titanium backup to backup and restore your current apps. Use SMS backup+ for your texts and call lists.
Images, vids, music etc are unaffected by formatting via CWM.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
If you want to switch to another ROM, I guess it's best to backup all your apps via Titanium Backup. As far as I remember, the list displays white apps, red ones and green ones. The red ones are system apps and you should backup them since they differ from ROM to ROM. The white ones are apps which you have installed on your phone (via Google Play...). The green entries are things like "Messages" "Phone call history" and stuff like that.. I guess you can backup them too.
You won't loose your contacts as long as they are stored on your googlemail-account. So no need to safe them.
Then just backup your current ROM via ClockworkMod (I guess one backup is enough :b - If you want to be 100% sure try to backup and right after it finished try to restore the backup. If it works (in 99,9% of all cases) you can just flash your new ROM - if it didn't work try to backup+restore again. As soon as you've got a working backup (I guess the first backup will be OK), flash the new ROM and restore the needed apps via Titanium Backup again. (Just download Titanium Backup right after flashing RR and you will be able to restore every single app again).
More and more ROM devs advise not to restore apps via Titanium Backup, but it always worked fine for me
Hope I helped you,
experience7

What about something simple like "How to backup data before installing new rom?"
In any case you should have searched google or XDA first as there is plenty of topics on how to flash roms without losing data or how to backup all your apps/appdata etc.

I can't find the button to change tittle, it must be hidden under 3 layers of bedrock.
Anyway, i've been useing this rom since yesterday, it's awesome .. mostly
Some minor disadvantages, some things like Clock crash, won't update some things but that's normal.
My stock benchmark was 6800, now 6200 D:
Probably becouse the rom uses more RAM than stock.. Overall 8.7/10 <3
I'll keep testin.
EDIT: OH YEA! what were those "modems" it asked me when i was installing it?

[Q] CWM Recovery on Galaxy Player 4.2 {Related to No WiFi}?

Hello there guys so I'm here because I did a very silly mistake related to the CWM for the Galaxy Player 4.2 (Or at least that's what I think I did ).
Related to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39344227
Anyway I'm not familiar with CWM since the Galaxy Player 4.2 is my first Android device ( And is not like the device has been easy on us right ), my device is rooted and the problem is that I already got the Kernel on my device and as expected I'm without WiFi. How can I configure the CWM Recovery without WiFi, if not, how can I get WiFi back?.
Sorry for bothering with dummy questions/mistakes and thanks in advance .

Can I flash the fix without CWM, for example with Odin?. I'm having a really hard time here, since I was dumb enough to install the Kernel without configuring the CWM before or at least making sure I could do it without the WiFi. Now the problem is when I want to flash with Rom Manager it says I need the recovery since I'm not a premium but again in order to get the recovery I need WiFi internet :/.

Wow it's the first time I see somebody having more problems with CWM than odin (no offense). Actually all you need to do is to put the patch into your device and then boot into CWM. Once into CWM, go into install zip from sdcard, then chose zip from sdcard and chose your patch zip. Once you choose it, you will see a bunch of no and one yes, check yes and it will patch it. Once it's done, reboot your device.
Hope it helps.
I'd like to know if flashing the kernel with CWM will make loose data, apps and preferences ? Thanks.

Once into CWM, go into install zip from sdcard, then chose zip from sdcard and chose your patch zip. Once you choose it, you will see a bunch of no and one yes, check yes and it will patch it. Once it's done, reboot your device.
Hope it helps.

Man, I feel so stupid right now . I managed to run the CWM boot now when I try to install the zip the update. Says:
"E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted"
Maybe I should tell you everything I did just in case.
I had the device already rooted.
Flashed the kernel
Installed the CWM v5.0.2.7
Transfered the Fix zip to sdcard
then I did everything you said and also tried to disable verification and still failed.
Sorry to be bothering U_U.
Ok I finally fixed everything... It was my external sd after all, it wasn't functioning properly. Tried with another Sd card and now it's working. Thanks you for your patience and help

/sdcard/.android_secure is the directory of the download of big apps (for example apps like nova or subway surfers I think) Cache has been backed up. Don't worry, all your things has been backed up.

No wait android secure is apps transferred to sd card instead that they're using the internal storage.

So I suppose that I've no such apps, as I don't have any .android_secure directory in /
Also, cwm backup seems to ignore backup of boot.image and recovery image. There is not even an error or warning message.
