When I choose the phone as mass storage I cannot see the contents of the internal SD. On my PC it lists the internal and external but does not show space available for the internal and I cannot go into it. If I use the file explorer in android(in the phone) I can see everything. How do I fix it?
Try switching the mounting setting from Mass Storage to None and back. It worked for me, at least.

I also noticed that some of the apps that were there also disappeared. After a reboot they all returned. Weird.....

Mini info, and Settings - sd card and device storage settings are both telling me that the internal storage is the sd card and the sd card is the internal storage. Is there a fix or is it ok.
Do you mean sdcard and sdcard2?

It says the sdcard is the sdcar/2 and vice versa
YOU BROKE IT!!! GGGAAAWWWDDD!!!
No, you are OK. Don't worry about it. It is showing up correctly, sdcard and sdcard2.

Still not 100% sure what you mean, but I think you are OK, it may have to with the ROM you are using, see the quote below from the OP of VEGan Ginger
"****The Latest Flash player from the market now works. Latest google maps now works download from the market.****
Internal Memory is mapped to SDCard and external SD Card is mapped to SDCard2."
If I open a file manager all of my internal stuff is located on SDcard, The micro SD that I can eject shows as SD2.
Depends on which ROM you're running. A lot of them switch them around. There's advantages and disadvantages to both. It certainly doesn't hurt to have them switched. The reason people do it is so that you can pull out your external SDCard and manipulate files and have them usable by your programs. The disadvantage is that you can't easily access the internal card from your computer - you pretty much have to do it from recovery (such as ClockWork Mod), because when you tether it attaches to the one named "SDCard (in Froyo).
And, to make it more confusing, they go by different names in Gingerbread:
Code:
Actual storage Froyo Gingerbread
Internal card SDCard emmc
External card SDCard2 SDCard
Those are the default names. Again, many ROMs will switch them around.
Anyways, that's just for your future reference if you move to Gingerbread.
I don't think this is surposed to happen. When I take out the sd card the tablet shows a message that says it has benn removed but it the storage space still shows up in setting. It has 1.86 gigs and even when it is disconnected it says sdcard 1.86 gigs i tried rebootee but same thing
Did you partition it like is recommended?
That would show your app partition of 2GB. And the other part of it is for storage.
Hello everyone,
Whats is the difference between device memory and USB storage?
As far as i see all the apps installed on the Device memory and all the photos and other files are located on the USB storage.
I had "insufficient storage available" problem which I fixed by uninstalling apps and that cleared some space on "Device memory" which has only p1.97GB of space, and on the other hand "USB storage" has 11.50GB of sace.
Is there a way to install apps on the USB storage?
I tried apps2SD but i see its only for external SD card.
Thanks in advance.
Device memory is for your apps and system etc. Usb memory is the mass storage for all your pics and music and for whatever else your apps might need space for.
They are basically partitions and as far as I know, there is no (safe) way to change them.
Btw apps2sd is for moving apply data to an external memory card.

Device Memory is referring to the ~2GB system storage partition on the device, which is part of the total 16GB of internal storage. Another ~12GB is taken up by what's being referred to as USB Storage, and refers to another partition of the 16GB of internal storage. If you have an SD card, that'll be referred to as the External SD Card.
Your system storage ("Device Memory") is located at root /
USB Storage is located at /sdcard
If you have an SD card in your device, it'll be located at /emmc/
Please do note though that these locations may/probably do change between ROMs, and I only know for certain that these correct within CyanogenMod 9.

Just FYI, external SD at /emmc is for AOSP/AOKP ROMs.
For Sammy stock ROMs, external SD will be at /mnt/sdcard/external_sd. (This is Samsung's brilliance. Not sure why they did this...)

Ah, thanks for that! If I'd given it more thought, I probably would have figured that out. But alas, brain is obviously not functioning. Cheers.

Why is it that when I take the option to move some apps that can be moved from device storage to USB storage I don't see the used space going any higher? please check out this image for an example. the figures don't seem to add up with the used figure against the apps with the ticks that have been moved to USB storage.
I still can't find an answer to issue raised here. How can I use USB storage instead of device memory?
Hi, I'm using a n7000 Slimkat 4.4.4 rom, with slim kernel 3.0.80+ autobuild.
Previously I used link2sd to create a partition on my SD card to get more space on my internal, and after a while I realised my USB storage is being recognised as an SD card. I tried a full wipe and reinstalled my rom but now even the internal storage is messed up. Not even the reformat works anymore
It's too complicated to explain in words so here are the screenshots. So how f**ked am I and how do I salvage this?
Each time I link files into the card (700mb size, it worked previously) it freezes the whole phone
From the storage option I can see this:
1. Internal storage 2GB (normal, nothing wrong with it)
2. Internal storage 11GB (this should be USB storage, and it has a erase SD card option at the end)
3. SD card 2GB (It was 4GB but I used link2sd to create an internal partition. MTP and mass storage is not detected but using card reader it is fine)
4. USB storage (there is only a mount and erase SD card option which is greyed out/unclickable and does not has any space indicator)

there is nothing wrong at all.
just repartition and reformat your sdcard and dont use external sdcards for app storage.

But what about the greyed out USB storage option? I don't remember seeing it in that way

it should be grayed unless you connect usb storage to your phone.
So here's the situation. My sister has a Galaxy S2 which is rooted and has CM11 Carbon rom on it. She's been using it for months now without problems. One day she comes to me and says that her songs are gone so I open up the storage to see whats up. Apparently, the storage wasn't showing up in the settings and it only had an option to format internal storage. I checked with a file manager and it also turned out to be just like an empty folder. Tried to connect it to the pc but it also just shows the external SD card and not even recovery works, returns the can't mount message. I figured the storage is not dead but rather not being mounted as the system and app storage, and the phone itself, are working fine, since those should also be taken from internal memory? So my question is, what's going on? How can I recover the files from it?
I am pulling my hair out here.
I can not, no matter what I try, get access to the internal storage of my 7.2.
If I put an SD card in I can see the files on that but thats it.
Connecting the phone to a PC and selecting file transfer on the phone I get "The folder is empty" from windows.
I have tried all sorts of File Managers on the phone and none of them can access the internal storage
What the actual frick is going on!?!

This is only a guess, but might help.
You reference an SD card.
When did your issue start?
If you setup SD card to extend (act as part of) internal storage, then your comments make sense.
You only see files when SD card is present because device is setup with internal storage to = true internal + SD card size.
You would need to configure SD card to work in multiple devices for your SD card and internal storage to display separately.
This might not be the issue you're having, but only suggestion I can provide at the moment.
