Has anyone managed to downgrade & root their desire HD? I have the ota 2.3.3 gingerbread update & am finding it really difficult to downgrade it so I can root it. I have tried some of the ways suggestted via the forums but have had no luck. Has anyone else managed to root their desire HD running the ota gingerbread 2.3.3 update?

As far as I understand, to root a Gingerbread version, you gotta use Gingerbreak.
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
Cheers mate.
Hi mate,
Thanks for your response, ill take a look at that.

Phil

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that you had to root from 1.5 to some 2.x rom. I don't think it's possible to upgrade any of the 2.1 versions 1, 2, and 3. The OTA is 2.1 v3.
That sucks lol. Thanks tho

Yeah, you're wrong.

You can root.
If you are on the OTA 2.1, and not one of the leaks then yes you can root it. Follow the same instructions for rooting 1.5
Thank all of you for your help! I had the leaked 2.1 but have it rooted now, and have been able to do those few extra things I was aiming to do.

Try flashing a general unbranded rom, some continental version if you find. And root after that. I had the same problem with the Ro firmware, got an European Fw and it worked. Also try and stay below 10e to root.
As for information, Gingerbreak roots it.
You must try gingerbreak it will surely gonna root it ,but mind it its gonna root permanently, so you can't unroot again.

Version 1.2 of Gingerbreak includes the Un-root option... so, just give it a try and report afterwards!
Gingerbreak have un-root option and it works fine. And if you flash oficial firmware with KDZ - you got un-root to.
If anyone out there knows how to root the 3d after the update plz let me know.

You're going to need to follow this method, which uses HTCs bootloader unlock method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1225974
Either that, or wait a little bit and see if revolutionary gets updated to work with the new 1.5hboot.
Is there a RUU for the 2.3.3? If so, when all else fails, revert back, root, then flash a ROM based on the 2.3.4.

There is an RUU for 2.3.3, but you can't downgrade if you're unrooted with S-on. It will throw an error at you about 'main version older' or some crap like that, because HTC makes it so you can't downgrade bootloaders (unless you're S off already, then I'm pretty sure you can downgrade)
I'd rather wait for a root method than going with the HTC unlock

If I were you, yes, I would wait for a different root method. I heard Revolutionary is working on a root for the new OTA.
The real question is, whena re they not
Anyone with new information on this yet?

I'm no expert but I'd guess you can download a rom and flash away..cmod is available in market...

Hi,
I have downloaded the RUU however, it says waiting for bootloader then one minute later, it says USB connection failed and my phone has the HTC logo on it.
Any clues why this is happening?
Thanks
I always have luck trying it again and again, it'll work eventually. I'm not exactly sure of the technics behind this, but it works.
Third time's usually the charm, no kidding.
