Ok, I have flashed my Wimo phones more times then I can count.
New to Andriod and I have not been able to get Fastboot to work.
I boot phone to bootloader and select fastboot wait about 10 sec and plug phone into my comp and it never shows fastboot. I have tryed this more then a few times with no luck.
I have read so much in here and on modoco, but I guess I am missing something.
All I want to do is flash to 2.1
Streak (ATT on stock 1.6)
Thank you for you help.
Gary
Why don't you just download the package and mount it to the sd and update? That's what I did.
I keep checking for the update.
but it saying my device is up to date.
Download it from Modaco. It says it's just for custom recovery or O2 Streaks, but it works with AT&T too.
http://www.streaksmart.com/
well, down loaded that pkg. put on my sd card renamed update.pkg
startes to load the stops and gives me a error
FOTA mismatch and reboots.
Well I did have the beta leak of 2.1 already on. You could try downloading that one and trying to flash (6941) What about fastboot though.... after you take the battery out and put it back in, power on holding camera, choose fastboot wait 10 secs and then are you double clicking the fastboot battery file?
Well still a no go for me.
I think this thing will just sit untill Dell gives me 2.2..
its just doesnt stand up to my HD2.
Oh well Andriod so far has not impressed me at all.
Thank you for your help.
Gary
Hey, don't go blaming Android. This is my first Android phone in there is a lot to learn. I was a winmo guy too and it's not like I just picked that up in a second. Many people have succeeded in doing what you are attempting....and they have written about it. Go back and read until you get it right, or maybe it's not for you.
Oh, I am not blaming Andriod.
It must be me not grasping something.
Just have been working on it all day and have not got anywhere with it.
Its your drivers. What os are you using?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I am on windows XP.
Find any of the gazillion instructions that tell you how to manually update the correct drivers. .
Blame windowsnot android. ...
You need the correct drivers, from the sound of things.
I Have the same issue.... and YES I have read all the instructions and guides. Even updating the drivers manually from about 6 different sources including the SDK itself and I still cannot get the drivers to install. I had this problem before with my Desire but it was easily fixed with the Drivers update, but not now....
I had the same problem with the drivers, I was unable to do anything until I read where someone said "install the Dell PC Suite" which is located on the SD card. Once I did that everything worked.
I have tryed with Dell pc suite, no go.
then I tryed with Pdanet, no go.
I have read and tryed 3 different ways of doing this and still cant get it.
Have some things I have to do this morning then I will start fresh again and give it a go.
I will hard reset the streak, remove everything I have alreday download on my pc and start new.
I know I am not a idoit, but after yesterday I am starting to wonder.
Install dell PC suite. Connect via fastboot. Wait at least 10 seconds before plugging In the usb. If it still says 'Wait for USB FastBoot detect...', see if Device Manager shows it as 'Android 1.0' and says the driver is not installed. If so, Go into Device Manager, right click the device and choose 'Update Driver Software', then choose 'Browse my computer for driver software', then click 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. A list of categories should appear, choose 'all devices' then 'google inc', another list will appear, choose 'Android Bootloader'. The Streak should now show 'FastBoot'.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Ok,
starting all over now PC Suite will not work.
I have download PCsuite from the Streak and it will not open get the following error:
I have also downloaded from the dell site and still get this error.
I have done this 4 times now each time restarting the comp and nothing works any ideas?.
C:\Program Files\Dell\PC Suite\Application Laucher\Application Launcher.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.
Thank you for any help.
Go to control panel and make sure there are no remnants of the previous dell install.then goto program fils and delete the dell folder. Basically make sure there is nothing left of the previous install. Then try reinstalling.

Also at what point do you get this error? Are you trying to run the program? If so you don't need to. You just install it and it gives you the framework to connect. Just install then go through the fastboot procedure.

got a streak as a gift a month ago - tried to update from stock 1.6 to 2.2 using guide on streaksmart.com - didnt work. now streak is bricked. no lights, nothing. looked all over online for days now and the furthest ive got is to try to access the quallcomm chip from the laptop but i cant, and i cant run the driver on it either, as told in the bricked streak pdf by ryrules. called dell and they cant help w/o acct name that purchased device - which i cant get (but thats a whole other story). cant even get a charge from what i can tell, qdl tool cant detect usb streak. im able to admit im out of my depth on this one - can anyone out there help?
If it helps, the dell streak service tag should be on the back of the phone when you remove the battery cover.
I phoned Dell today and they are picking up my streak for repair, no charge. And im not the first owner of the device either. Got mine from ebay. All they did was get me to boot into recovery, and try a factory reset. when it didnt complete, they just said they will fix it, for free thankfully.
I tried that - they won't transfer the device to my name w/o verification of original purchaser account name - and won't be able to issue a new free replacement w/o it. Not only do I not have that info, I might not ever be able to get it. thank you for the idea though.

I tried your email in the pdf.
Where are you located? Maybe I can help you out.

Texas, but I think I could maybe fix it if someone had the right step by step instruction I could follow. Is there another program besides the qdl that can help?
What version of windows are you using. I had a very hard time with windows 7 but took me like 20 minutes from start to finish with a windows XP.

wait for adb device...
error(d2)wait for adb fastboot mode timeout
please check that device is exist and driver is properly installed
download fail
now what?
That happened on my 1st attempt using QDL. Just unplug Streak, remove battery for @ least 1 minute, place battery & cover back on, hold the button closest to the headphone port while @ same time plugging cable back into Streak, then run again. 2nd time did everything for me. My computer did flash something about drivers installed successfully after the 1st fail, so maybe it installed what was missing. If this doesn't work, use a different USB port.

+1 for that advice. In addition, I wouldn't use a USB hub either.

yes, i did but when i try to update the android adb interface under device manager on my laptop by directing the driver update screen manually to C:\dell\drivers\R288920\Win7 i get an error msg that says
windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device
windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it
the device cannot start (code 10)
seems to be a pattern im stuck in, i cant make it past here yet.
Nm - fixed it w help from irc #dellstreak - had to end up using 2 different qdl tools, but in the end - after a week long struggle w a bricked streak it finally came back on, with 2.2
Please help!!!!

Dont know if you still have this problem, but I transferred registration/ownership to myself on the dell site. It just asks for your details and service tag. Which coincidentally is shown under About Phone, status at the bottom.

I ended up getting it all fixed up with a lot of help on irc. Meralias got me through the last parts, correct drivers and qdl. Then I had beta froyo, which I updated to official. Yesterday I finally got brave enough to try flashing one of dj steve s. glad I did.
Sent from my dell streak running dj steve ` s 1.6.1 using xda app
I used the QDLtool to unstick my Streak so I am now on a pre release of 2.2. I am trying to upgrade to Steve's 1.5.3 but cannot even get the blasted streakmod recovery to flash as it keeps saying "waiting for device" on the cmd window but my Streak is in Fastboot_Mode. If I was able to fix my phone via QDL a few days ago then the drivers are all installed correct, right? I am running a 64 bit of Windows 7.
This is starting to overwhelm me...
I have played with W7 and drivers before. Other people have used W7, but it can be fiddly. If its possible, do yourself a favour and use XP.
Sounds like you still have drivers to install. I know I had to run an installation .exe file before the proper drivers were installed (XP).

Unfortunately, the only other pc in our house runs Vista. The computer I had before this one had XP but it had bad capacitors and fried the mobo.
I can't understand why I would need more drivers if I was able to use the QDLtool a few days ago with no problems on this same laptop. Who knows... they have minds of their own it seems.
Hopefully I can get it figured out bc its driving me insane!
Have you tried the solution in this guide:

I have to go through this method everytime I go into fast mode
Sometimes it feels like I have to bring an altar and a live chicken out just to get the drivers working

What driver do I need to download for windows so I can do USB tethering? I downloaded the Dell driver so I can USB m streak as USB storage but can't get it working for USB tethering.

I see you asked this on the Dell forum too... with no responses, just like here.
Something is obviously wrong with the Dell Streak 5 as the other 6 phones is a (see my sig) I had no issue using them as a modem for my laptops via PdaNet. I need to know if I can use it as a modem for the Streak, are there any limitations with 1.6... and where to get the dang driver since the one from PdaNet won't work.
It seems to be impossible on the at&t model.
I have so far tried pdanet (usb driver error), barnacle legacy (can upload but not download), android-wifi-tether (apparently incompatible with 1.6), android wired tether (1.6), and one more that I dont recall the name of, which simply crashed.
What version of windows are you using?
I got mine working on ubuntu 10.10 without a hitch.

Win7 Ultimate
What is ubuntu 10.10?
A linux distrobution, it's an entire operating system, but you can get an installer that runs off a USB stick, probably too much of a circus if you're going to do it regularily.
william58 you aren't still running 1.6 are you?
Hoping to get some update from @AmyatDell as she is looking into it for me since no one at dell responded on their forums.

Finally got the driver loaded and PdaNet working.
A bit tricky, but if you follow the instructions I posted, it will work.
That post is here:
Getting PdaNet to work with Streak 5
PDANET
I would suggest you remove any drivers you have installed from Windows 7.
I was having the same problem and then heard about PDANET.
I couldn't even use fastboot because everytime I connected my Streak, Windows would try to install different drivers.
I read in another forum, pocketables I think, that installing PDANET would solve this.
So I uninstalled all traces of drivers and the Dell Sync also, installed PDANET and voila, no more problems.
So if PDANET isn't working for ya, you have a driver issue or there's something wrong with your Streak

If you would have read my previous post, you would have saw I got it working.
As for uninstalling the drivers and dell sync and using PdaNet drivers... that didn't work for me. Drivers would NOT install. So see my solution in this link:
Getting PdaNet to work on your Streak
Maybe the way you did it worked, but the variables may have been different as I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit which could effect the kind of drivers etc.
I have been trying to find Windows 7 drivers for my Streak and have had zero luck getting anything to work. I am trying to root my device but without getting the drivers to work I think I am stuck. I have searched this forum and others but have had no luck.
Any help please? Thank you.
i just finished putting djsteves 1.9 on and i was like you. i was lost with all of the write ups and what not. here is what i did to figure it all out.
dl all files and then run the tutorial. i know there is extra stuff that is not needed but i got mine done and it wasnt too hard,
http://streakdroid.com/?page_id=92
start there and then just follow skip the first part about how to install rom. that is last.
The drivers are actually on the MicroSD card that came with your Streak. Look for Dell_PC_Suite.
That installs the ADB drivers as well as the PC Suite (that I just ignored from that point onwards)
That's how I got the drivers to work for Rooting my Streak on Windows 7 x64
