Hi guys, I need help...
I update my Optimus One p500 with the leaked gingerbread rom following the russian guide... I chose the Erase EFS option and now the phone does not recognize my sim card.
I try nand restore and restore kdz, but the phone stay without recognize the sim card...
Can someone help me?...
Thanks!
I had selected erase efs apps and i am ok. Another guy had also selected erase efs all. He lost his nv. But you might be having the nv file in the same folder. You will have to flash it via lg tool only. But i dont know how. Wait for somebody else to reply and also post in specific dev thread.
If you dont have nv file, only lg service can help you. Go there as noob.

"Erase EFS ALL" is a bad idea if you don´t flash back nv2-files afterwards...
follow the manual in the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmsmiCswC88&feature=player_embedded and do NOT use other settings or your phone will not work anymore...
--> is there any way to return gsm after Erase EFS ALL?
a) flash your nv2-file (it´s saved by LG-flash-program automatically - if you did not delete it afterwards !!!)
b) if you deleted your nv2-backup from your computer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534704 (could work maybe)
c) go to lg service
nv2-file includes e.g. you IMEI or MAC-Adress..so your phone will not work whithout this !!!
!!! the nv2 file is not included in *.kdz !!! its phone-specific !!!

Hi everyone! I know i'm not the first one who has this problem but i'm one of them.
I read and tried everything on what i could find about this, but i can't get it fixed! please help!
The situation:
I have a I9100 Galaxy S2, and it works fine, except for the cell phone functionality. It sais "Baseband unknown", has no imei number (also no 0049... imei), and i tried multiple EFS folders (i also have one from a friend who got it from his own Galaxy S2.). But no work.
In fact, i read that if you delete the EFS folder, it should autocreate a new one. It kinda did, but it only generates a bluetooth, upgaddr and wifi folder. Nothing more nothing less.
I flashed another rom, i flashed another phone image with Odin. I tried to erase all kinds of stuff with the clockwordmod recovery. But nothing helps so far.
If i'm correct from my standing, it looks like the baseband is broken itself. Why else wouldn't it even recreate the EFS folder? I'm starting to think that my original EFS folder (which i backed up before replacing it) was fine, but it's not even being read anymore...
Can anyone help me?
Thank you!
bump, still trying. Flashed a new clockworkmod recovery and with adb reformatted the efs partition as listed on xda somewhere. Then rebooted.
The Bluetooth does get a new mac address, so that part is good, but baseband still unknown and imei totally empty.
Also, the phone should regenerate the efs folder itself right? Well it doesn't. That means, it makes a bluetooth and a wifi folder, but that's it. No files or whatever...
Help please!!
m8 y u even delete the efs folder????? anywayz u got a backup so jus copy papte the files of efs...an flash stock rom....if u get un known base band then revert one step back --tht is flash a stock rom then come to present rom--then check///or u can flash cwm modems available suited to tht rom...but make sure u r pure stock--pda,modem,csc.....an yes copy the good efs folder on ext sd card too ,,so tht u can set same permissions like the ones ur copying to phone efs folder(sometimes the permissions change afta reboot)
i'm facing the same problem
I have something like 20 or more files inside EFS_BACKUP folder in my external sdcard (Galaxy S2-9100). The file name are something like: "efs_30May2012-0540.tar.gz" with size 37.26KB. I tried to uncompress and the size changes to 5MB something. Yes i used to install a lot of ROM to play, everytime I install the new ROM, CWM alwayas making that efs backup.
This is first time I am installing AOKP (before was always AOSP), and now my IMEI missing and the phone not picking signal.
I've search all the best way I think to know how to restore "efs_30May2012-0540.tar.gz" but I could not find the instruction.
I dig trhu CWM menu, also not finding way/menu on how to restore "efs_30May2012-0540.tar.gz".
I've isntalled: kTool, SGS-II Tool, Root Explorer, also no simply way on how to restore efs using those app.
Can anyone shed a light to me on how to do it?. I have a lot efs backup under different date-name as above "efs_30May2012-0540.tar.gz", etc, but I do not know how to restore.
All the app above only can restore if the efs backup made by those specific app only, on certain save location only, etc.
I myself could not believe that the solution is not easily found in google (XDA) to best of my search ability.
Why don't you just flash another modem?

Hey so its really simple boot in cwm and navigate to backup&restore and you'll find an option to restore efs partition.
If there's no option for restore tell me i have other solution for you.
All,
Thanks for the response.
Mantulis:
My CWM comes from ReVolt 2.4JB is CWMR version 5.5.0.4, and there is no menu of "Restore EFS Partition" or such.
The only available restore is restore of nandroid files the one I made previously before installing any new ROM.
przemcio510:
Which modem to flash, my SGS2 is Intl version.
before I lost my IMEI, the phone missing 3G and EDGE, but I still can place a call. Then I read on xda to install GetRIL to get the internet back from Playstore, after GetRIL "repair" my phone, then I lost the IMEI.
You can't restore efs through CWM, Mantulis.
Cangguek, you have 30+ modems to choose
Your issue can be fixed by flashing a modem through Odin.
Ok so this is may other solution for you its more advance but i think you can handle it
Under condition that
1. you have on your phone back up file "efsdev-mmcblk0p1.img.gz"
2. this file contains correct/oryginal data (not corrupted)
3. you have adb on your pc
do following:
1. go to CWM recovery
2. mounts&storage - make sure /efs is not mounted and a place where your backup file is placed is mounted (eg /sdcard or /data)
3. connect pc to the phone and run adb shell
4. execute following commands:
gzip -d efsdev-mmcblk0p1.img.gz
cat efsdev-mmcblk0p1.img > /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
ADB for setting it up : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879701
Good luck mate if you come up with problem just let me know.
I think together we can crack it
<Edit>
I just come up with what i forget GSII_Repair https://play.google.com/store/apps/...oogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=gsii+repair Try this first before using ADB method!.
Mantulis:
Thanks for write-up, restoring efs seems not as simple as when performing the efs backup.
przemcio510:
I will try to odin flash the modem, since it is much simpler. Doy you think flashing modem thru CWM will solve the problem?.
Thanks for the help all....
I had similar problem and flashing modem via CWM didn't help.
Only Odin helped me.

Anyway good luck.

All:
Thanks for all support.
Finally I did as: http://youtu.be/bT9f7Ni315Y.
And using the file here: http://www.wuala.com/dinamicamedia/Galaxy_S2/ics_full_wipe.zip (file link available on the tube video).
Now my SGS2 back in service.
All detail of my phone were all returned: baseband, imei, serial, and imei sv.
I'm having the documented problem of no data connection, always on roaming, after flashing to CM 10.1. My prior rom was CleanRom 5.1, and I have several nandroid backups from various roms over the last few months. GS3 (d2vzw) with root and unlocked bootloader.
So the question is... What's the best way to restore IMEI info and get mobile data back?
As far as I can tell from the dev forums, these are the options, but there are a couple of steps I'm not sure of:
Option 1: Flash a nandroid recovery, backup IMEI using terminal emulator, and then crack-flash away
1. If I restore my phone to a previous backup, is the correct IMEI information included?
2. Also having a problem getting the MD5 sum's to match. Should I flash through ADB instead of clockworkmod? Or use Odin to get back to stock and then re-root? If correct IMEI included with flash back to stock?
3. Assuming I restore a nandroid, the plan was to use "reboot nvbackup" in terminal emulator to save IMEI info.
4. Flash back to CM 10.1.
Option 2: Use IMEI Generator and NV Reader/Writer:
1. Based on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117
2. Problem: The link to the generator tool in the OP is broken (404). I can get the converted IMEI number from an alternative program, but don't know how to format the text file correctly to use with NV Reader/Writer. Does anyone have a standard format of a dummy IMEI text file?
If you screwed up your IMEI file, what would you do? Mucho gracias.
Okay, I just fixed this issue after spending the better part of 2 days flashing ROMs, messing up my phone worse, and even calling vzw for support. Nearly tried to cash in on the warranty.
Steps taken (without any guarantees):
1. Flashed to stock ICS using ODIN. Flashed stock kernel as well.
2. Rooted the phone.
3. Downloaded ez-unlock (bootloader) from Google Play. Unlocked bootloader.
4. Along the way, I had a problem with my phone booting into factory mode, so I edited the efs file (labeled "factory" something or other) to say "ON" as opposed to "OFF". It's counter intuitive, but on is off and off is on.
5. Also went through the entire process of using NV reader/writer software. Tip: search for the explanatory video... it's a lifesaver. I ended up writing the correct imei file back to the phone.
6. Probably unnecessary, who knows, but I erased the efs file (after backing it up to Dropbox first). I also backed up the IMEI file.
7. Used Root Manager to get to clockworkmod, factory reset, and turned the phone on again, hoping to recreate the efs file. Efs was recreated, but this didn't fix the problem... Not yet.
8. Re-rooted phone. Re-unlocked boot loader.
9. Used a combo of Astro File Manager and ES File Manager to restore refs and IMEI files to proper place in phone. First downloaded (from Dropbox) to internal SD with Astro, then moved to top level system/root folder with ES.
10. Using ROM Manager, rebooted to clockworkmod and factory reset, clear cache, flashed LiquidSmoothRom and GApps, then cleared dalvik cache. (Note: this rom was pre-rooted but unlocked bootloader again anyway to make sure).
11. By now, I'm no longer getting the factory mode popup annoyance, my imei info is correct in settings > about phone, but still not getting mobile phone or data.
12. Here's the key, I think: Activated a backup phone, and in so doing, deactivated the sg3. Went onto vzw website and activated the Sim for the sg3. Now I have a working phone.
It may have been one crucial step, or maybe a combination of all the steps, maybe even a Christmas miracle. Just happy to have my best friend... err... phone back.
Please note: At one point while using a CM10 ROM, I noticed my imei info was correct, but not the phone number. I actually downloaded an app that lets you edit your phone number. Not sure if that did anything, but want to be thorough. Anyway, noticing that was what led me to focus on trying to reset the Sim. Vzw told me to do a battery pull and take out the Sim for 10 seconds, but that didn't do squat.
FYI, there's no *228 option on sg3. It was news to me. Hope this helps someone.

I know many people have already asked about their IMEI disappearing and i managed to restore my backup using Galaxy Toolbox before but i tried to restore my IMEI again and it didn't work. I then decided to revert back to stock via Odin and i successfully went back to a stock ROM but my IMEI is still missing and i am getting quite worried now. Have i lost it for good? I obviously lost it after flashing the data2sd-ext script by Amarullz if this helps towards helping me?!

I managed to finally restore my IMEI. It was very confusing but basically i had to delete the old directory/folder i had on my ext-SD and then download Galaxy Toolbox. Then i opened up the app and went to the restore option, it says it could not find the directory and tells you to make one with the backup i previously took beforehand when i had a working IMEI. So i connected my device, transferred the file into a new directory named 'GalaxyToolbox' and disconnected the device. Finally i loaded the app and restored my backup, rebooted and hooraaay my IMEI was back!! I can't tell you how relieved i am! I MUST donate to Doky for making such an amazing app! I think i'm going to leave the data2SD-ext script for now and maybe try other methods if there is any?
Oh and i love your S3 Ripple Mod by the way, i had to go back to Simplicity V5 and flash it again! Lol

Whenever I lost IEMI, reverting back to stock firmware (Odin restore) sorted it. Strange it doesn't repair yours...

what is the name of the "old directory/folder" and where do I find it? I really need to resolve this problem
I probably didn't explain my solution very well after reading back through my post.
It has been a long time since I faced this issue but I'll try and explain what I did to resolve the problem...
1) Connect your device to your computer and transfer the GalaxyToolbox folder (should contain 2 files inside) to your computer.
2) Delete the GalaxyToolbox folder on your device once you have transferred it to your computer.
3) Disconnect your device and open File Manager/Explorer app on your device.
4) Create a new folder titled 'GalaxyToolbox' with no spaces on the root of your SD Card.
5) Connect your device to your computer again and transfer only the file titled 'EFSpart.img.SAVE' to the new GalaxyToolbox folder you created on the root of your SD Card.
6) Disconnect your device and let media scanner finish. Open the Galaxy Toolbox app and select restore EFS partition. It will tell you it has found a backup and ask if you wish to restore it, click yes.
7) Close the Galaxy Toolbox app and restart your device.
Type *#06# into your dialer and you should see a small box pop-up with your IMEI number letting you know the restore was successful.
I know it seems strange that this method fixed it for me but I think the app itself creates a 'temporary' backup which is the backup of your currently missing IMEI number and when you try and restore it keeps restoring the EFS backup which has no IMEI... So starting from fresh and moving the original backup I made back into the GalaxyToolbox folder seemed to have fixed it for me.

What if someone doesnt want data to be restored. Of course it was an option when we had no way of backing up IMEI
But now (for over a year), we can work on IMEI independently via Galaxy Tools, then what is the need of this method handling data and it also can cause many FC's
Yeh Bro. Its Just. If They Dont Want Data To Be Restore Just Flash De Stock Firmware. Ur Rite.

Galaxy Toolbox is not being my friend. I've lost my IMEI and I can't bring it back whatsoever.
Tried flashing stock but the efs folder is always empty. So the 9-step guide doesn't work for me (Or am I missing something?)
Please help guys. I don't have previous efs folder backups. But I do have nandroid(CWM) backups of the rom and restoring them doesn't help.

I agree, if you managed to backup your EFS partition via Galaxy Toolbox beforehand and you are facing an issue with your backup not restoring as it should then follow my mini guide on the first page of this thread. If however you didn't take a backup before you lost your IMEI then you'll have to follow the guide from this link -

Hello my Friends ,
I had this Problem and solved it by Myself.
So i wanted to share the solution for you!
1. Custom Way
First you will need a Tool called ' Mega Wipe ' .
It will clean all your Storage and make it ready for the next ROM. ( Download by zoot1 )
2. Now go to Recovery Mode and start the Aroma Installer. Choose the Mega wipe and let the Installer delete your Internal Storage.
3. Install The ROM that you want and ' Voila ! ' your Phone is good to go. No IMEI Error's no Network Error's.
2. The Way for UltimaROM User's
There's are way for Ultima users too.
1. Just start the Aroma Installer to Install the ROM ( Shiva 14.01v or newer ) , then go to 'Super Wipe' ( It Cleans your entire Storage like the 1st Way )
2. Select the MOD's that you want like normally. After that Reboot.
3. And at the End your Phone should work like normal.
If it worked : Congratulations !
And If it helped someone , please leave a thanks to know that it helped others.

If you Downgrade to an Older Modem the EFS folder will become Invalid.
The EFS Folder is only Compatible with the Version you are using or newer.
Just follow the instructions from the OP and all will be good. I can't secure if it works by anyone who did it . Just give it a try.
The thread title is misleading as this wont work for most. We already have an imei / efs thread that I wrote in general > sticky roll-up
Perhaps you should rename this thread "[tip] How I fixed my efs - not registered on network - issue"
