[Q]Update to SE Gingerbread - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Now that the release of the official GB rom from SE is near, the only question that
I have is that will be possible to update from TripNMiui 1.5.6 2.2 rom directly to the official 2.3.3 rom using PC Companion
or
I'll have to downgrade to the generic 2.1 and then upgrade?
Thanks in advance

This might answer your question...

I already got some confirmation that if you modified the firmware or using any modded firmware, you will not be able to update to 2.3. The updater will give you a message that your firmware is not genuine. Like I said, to update, just switch back to SE's stock firmware and do not root it. Root AFTER you update to 2.3.

If you flashed a custom rom or used xRecovery to load a custom theme, an I'd tag may be overwritten. I'm not able to recall exactly now which, it's not a big deal. I left Seus in the same state for over a month.. when you need to flash / upgrade it's kind of a handy feature even.

When I updated to .435 it didn't ask to update anymore. After, I was full of 2.1 so I put. 2.2

Go to this thread. Download an official 2.2 firmware and flash it through KDZ. All the how-tos are present in the same thread.

my phone is unrooted...and basically the main reason i want to downgrade it is to run an app without rooting it.

To flash an official ROM through KDZ, you need not have root access.
And stop asking the same question over and over again.... Please....

[Q] can I retun back to my official 2.3.3 firmware

Hi friends....I have GT I9100,,I flashed it via Odin to Android 4.0.3,but now I can not update firmwares via Kies, can i return back to my original firmware 2.3.3 to be able to update officially to android 4.0 ? thanks sorry for my language
Of course you can pal. Just download your 2.3.3 ROM and flash via Odin, simple.
Just do a Wipe after flashing as you are downgrading.
or if you made a nandroid backup before flashing your new ROM, then you can just reboot to recovery mode and restore your backup there.

If there is an upgrade from 2.3.3 for where you live, yes. But it won't be 4.0, that hasn't been released officially by Samsung. Will be 2.3.4, 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 if your operator has those firmwares.
Some countries/operators are much slower in releasing upgrades.

I don't think so, 2.1 is the latest available firmware from SE, and that's the only thing they offer, but it's still official SE firmware.
Thanks SMg67
Successfully downgraded to 1.6 through the forum

Point to note, you should create the tft file through flash tool when you extract the contents

[Q] Can't update unrooted sk17i to ICS the official way

I have a new sk17i and I wanted to update it to ICS but all three methods I tried (OTA, PC Companion and SEUS) just tell me I'm on the latest software (Gingerbread). Have Sony taken the official ICS update down due to there being no SE anymore or maybe because I read a lot of negative feedback regarding the ICS update. The phone did update the Gingerbread version when I switched it on so I'm inclined to think that the reported bugs in ICS are the problem... does anyone know anything about this?
thnx in advance

There is one more method to update using Flashtool. Using flashtool just flash the 4.1.B.0.587 Stock ICS FTF for XMP. There are many good guides which tell you step by step how to flash a stock rom using Flashtool.
Note :- This works on locked bootloader too and DOES NOT void your warranty.
