So when I was on stock, periodically my stock Moto sms app would say "phone storage full, delete some files to make room" and not show any messages. Sometimes I would have to reboot, clear a lot of cache or something, force close the app, etc. etc. to get it to work. And then I started using GoSMS and when it happened, Go would just not show any messages, and without any error messages. Then I go into stock and try to fix.
Now on GingerBlur, with the stock messaging app, sometimes it does the same thing, but it has way more problems...Messages randomly won't send in Go, and I open the gingerbread stock app and it continuously force closes. I HAVE to reboot in these circumstances, which is very frustrating. It basically just crashes in a ton of different ways, and no amount of cache clearing or force closing or anything will fix, so I'm forced to reboot like 3 times a day to fix this. It happens randomly. I'll be texting someone, no problems.. Then I'll just get another text from them at some point in the conversation and when I open like normal it'll just crash (stock AND GoSMS). This is a really frustrating problem, does anyone know what the deal is? Perhaps this phone isn't meant to have the Gingerbread stock messaging app?
Then again, i still had problems on Motoblur with the Moto app...

I have a rooted SGS2 running Siyah 2.3 and Touch X-Power, with LauncherPro. I have the stock messaging app. When I receive texts from certain people in my contacts list, I get a notification but when I open the text to read it, I'm taken straight to the message create screen and can't read the text. No matter which way I try to enter the messaging app, I can't open the text or any previous ones that I've received from them.
This also happens if I have Handscent running, the message is accepted by the stock app but not Handscent... It's driving me mad.
Any ideas? Can I remove the stock app so that it isn't there at all and use something else like Handscent as the default?
If the app doesn't force close then it sounds like its a problem with either what you are doing or something other than the app.
But yea, you can remove the app and just use handcent if you really want to. Get Root Explorer from the market if you haven't already (its like £2 or something). Then navigate to system > apps > you will see a whole bunch of apks. Find MMS.apk and delete it.
Hope that helps.
Did you mess around with the settings?
Hi,
I use CM9 nightly 20120611. A few weeks ago, after installing a nightly, I've started having issues with the messaging app. Sometimes after sending a text message, the application force closes, and the text is either received by the recipient or not, but the state of the message will remain 'Sending' even when restarting the app...
Sometimes just entering the app will cause it to hand and FC, especially right after going back from a message thread to the main app screen...
I have a bit over 10,000 messages, and I'm trying to figure out if that's the issue, or the new nightly, or both combined?
Has anyone else come across this?
Thanks!
Ok so am I the only one with this issue..?!?!
I like to use Emoji's so I tend to try out alternative text messaging apps and so far I've tried Handcent, GOSMS, Chomp, etc and they all do this.. When I go to send a text to someone, it goes to SOMEONE ELSE..!! And sometimes it will only say it went to someone else but it really went to the person who was supposed to get the text in the first place.. This can get very annoying, especially if a text for baby momma goes to new girlfriend, no bueno..!! Anyone have any luck with this..?? Also, I'm on MeanROM's latest release..
Try the usual, clear app data restart, clear data for all sms, you can back up the messages and restore after you see whether it helps or not. I haven't had this issue at all with any rom but there was a bug in Android that was fixed 2-3 releases ago. Closest thing i can think of would be that, but like I said it's supposed to have been fixed

u mean goto settings/apps/messages and clear data right..?
Yes, it's worth a try
hmm, it would only let me clear cache..?? my sms messages still remained inbox..
Odd, you should always be able to clear data, do you have any texts locked. I don't think it would affect the ability to clear data from app settings but it is supposed to keep you from deleteing messages

nope, nothing is hidden/locked, etc.. it's a plain setup of meanrom out of the box.. only thing i've added is nova launcher..
Oh you mean stock then, I meant what ever app you use instead of stick lol
lol well yah I am stock now because the ghost messaging thing lured me into deletion of all third party apps hahaha..!!
FINALLY! Someone with the same freaking issue I have! I blame it on Sense since it handles the messaging.
Here's what happens:
Use Chomp or Go for text, text normally throughout the day. DELETE messages from people and randomly the next incoming text you receive *appears* to come from the person you whose texts you last deleted. If you don't pay attention and reply to the text, it will go to the WRONG person. For me, it happend to be in response to friends Facebook status updates since I USED to have Facebook text me when certain people updated their status. I quit using that Facebook feature when I texted my wife all the dirty and nasty things I was going to do to my wife when I got home from work, that I thought was going to her, went in reply to my friends status update. Yeah, that really happened.....and I didn't catch it.
If you use the stock app, the same thing happens, but with a slight difference.......
You can see the text come in as the last message you deleted, but it very rapidly changes to the contact it should be. You have to be holding your phone and looking at it in order to notice it.
When I use Chomp or Go, the SMS I'll get an SMS and it will stay as the wrong person until I kill and restart the app. So any texts I respond to go to the wrong person.
This has happened to me on all stock versions. I recently rooted and went to Meanrom and STILL get it. I switched to Handcent since they claim better integration with Sense and have not experienced the problem.
I have a topic in on the Sprint forums about this. I'd link to it but they're down right now. Look in there, it's near the top. Reply to it or start a new topic. This is indeed a BUG that needs fixed.
I think it's going relatively unnoticed because people blame Chomp or Go for the problem...........
I also faced the similar problem few months ago but I figured out the problem. basically the problem arise due to any draft msg or msg that havnt been sent and that msg is not visible in sms apps. to solve the problem try installing my phone explorer and then watchout for any sms that is in category other than recieved and sent, just delete that sms, restart phone and voilla problem solved...)
Does anyone have the problem if you are trying to open the messaging app, and it freezes when you try to create a new message and type in the new message? Or it also freezes when you deleting conversations? when you delete one and try to delete the other it will freeze for like 5-6 seconds, the phone doesnt freeze. Just the app freezes. I can click the home button and go home but the app remains frozen untill i close the app, or it will throw up the force close error message from the background.
Please let me know if it is just my phone. Oh and also i'm completely stock. I use the forums here because everyone responds so quickly and takes phone issues serious. On the other O.G. forums people never respond or they don't know crap about phones.
Try clearing the data for the messaging app.

You can also archive old conversations with an app like SMS Backup and Restore and have them automatically uploaded to Dropbox or Google drive. Usually it is large database sizes due to large numbers of messages that slow down the message app.

Nah clearing the data doesn't work
I don't need to store my messages. And clearing the data doesn't help. It sux when I want to create a new message and once I add the recipients name and start to type in the body. It won't register my taps when the keyboard pops up and it's not SwiftKey it does this on the stock keyboard too. It won't register my tapping and then it will type all my taps 4 seconds later but it will all be mistyped. In a nut shell if I have numerous conversations and try to delete some it will take me a few force closes to delete the messages. And if I create a new message it will take me a minute to actually be able to send it off because I have to wait for the software to quit bugging out.

Never had a problem with mine stock, nor with Snow JB v1.1
Dam
I did a factory reset and I'm completely stock. If I have 5 conversations and I am going through deleting one at a time my messaging app will freeze after it deletes a conversation and the name on the contacts conversations will go away and it will just be their numbers showing and I won't be able to use the app it will be frozen and I have to hit the home button and manually close the app or in 15-20 seconds the "messaging app stop responding would you like to wait or force close" sign will pop up. The stock messaging app has a software flaw. My phone kept doing the sleep of death and once that stopped this started. I would get the s4,if it wasn't being released at the end of April.

Run the LGPNST. No one else has this "flaw" so the most likely culprit is a bad MMS.apk. Not the entire software line. I have well over 7k total messages in my db and it works perfectly.

On my Galaxy S5, running Android 6.0.1., when I try to send a text message to a number that does not have a saved conversation, the app I'm using always crashes, gives me an error, or does nothing instead of sending the message. The built in Messages app and Facebook's Messenger app both crash, while Google Messages gives me an error saying it couldn't create the conversation, and Go SMS Pro seems to work at first, but actually does nothing.
I've also deleted caches/data and removed old texts/conversations, and nothing seems to work.
This is clearly not a problem with one app, but rather something larger at play. What could possibly be causing this?
Sounds like something corrupted your SMS data base and it will take a wipe to fix it. Go SMS pro is the normal cause for corruption. It's a male are ridden app that users here stopped using years ago.
Darn, is there any other way to fix something like that? I use my phone for work, so I don't really want to wipe it and spend a bunch of time updating/reinstalling.
Go SMS Pro was just a last attempt to try any other SMS app, rather than one I've had, so it's probably not the culprit.
If you had root you could try to wipe the data base file.
Give textra a try. They use their own separate SMS data base. So that might help.
Other then that you might spend an evening backing up and flashing a stock clean build.
