[Q] Can't access CWM - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, i rooted last night with SuperOneClick (psneuter) and I installed ROM Manager and flashed the Vibrant Recovery.. But now I can't access CWM, i just go into stock recovery. any ideas as to why?

Try reflashing it with rom manager, then when you to reboot into recovery you will likely have to select reinstall packages at least once when you boot into your regular recovery. Until you flash a custom rom this is likely the route that you will have to take each time you boot into CWM

Odin back to stock 2.1, then root with eclair guide. Install the update package twice and the blue recovery should turn green.

Hmm odd what stock rom are you using? Ie ka5? Jk2? Etc. If you are running any stock froyo rom then as movieaddict said you will want to Odin back to 2.1 jfd which has 2e recovery instead of 3e, now I know there is a way to modify 3e recovery to make it work like 2e but iI'm not familiar with the process, search the vibrant development section and you should be able to find the mod there

if he rooted using superone click, it's good guess he's running 2.2. Also, if he can't get into CWM (except he hasn't stated it gives him a signature verification error yet), then he's also probably running a 2.2 build.
The easiest way is to use odin/heimdall.
there are 2 options in this path; odin back to 2.1 (jfd) then flash whatever rom you want from there, or odin a 2.2 voodoo kernel (which has cwm built in) and then flash whatever rom you want.

[Q] Unable to Access Clockwork Recovery (Rooted, Running Stock KA6)

Hey, guys and gals.
I did a quick search and nothing I found seemed to answer this specifically. Forgive me if there is a thread answering this, and maybe link me to it if you know of one. Here goes:
I am getting ready to flash Bionix V to my Vibrant. I had previously installed the official KA6 Froyo update from Tmobile. I am rooted and without any sort of lag fix running. Just stock and rooted. When I try to do a Nandroid, after booting into recovery, I'm brought to the normal (blue) system recovery screen. I was told I should try the "reinstall packages" option in order to see the clockwork recovery screen. When I do, I get the following errors in red:
E: Failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Prior to rebooting into recovery I used ROM Manager to flash the latest clockwork recovery for my device (T-Mobile Vibrant) and that seemed to go just fine.
I'm really looking forward to enjoying Bionix, but I feel like this speedbump is going to cause problems, as I can't seem to get into the clockwork recovery screen.
Any ideas?
-Jake-
Its failing because ka6 uses 3e recovery which clockworkmod doesn't work on. And this belongs in the Q&A section. Please post in the correct sections.

you need to odin back to 2.2 2e and then reinstall.

I have flashed voodoo stock kernel by supercurio, it comes with it's own recovery. You can easily enable or disable the lagfix in recovery, and use it to flash custom roms.

Thank you. This was actually helpful.
The quickest way if you have a PC is to install untermensch's modified 3e recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
As others have mentioned, some kernels also have CWM Recovery built-in.

Ok, but how do I flash that kernel without access to a recovery console?

You have to select reinstall packages, and it will go to the blue recovery again, then press reinstall packages again and clockwork should boot up everytime.
So i just have to keep on reinstalling packages until cwm works?? I think i will lose my superuser etc.. What zip file do i have to put on my intrnal card?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Once u are rooted you done need update.zip for root
What if i already rooted my phone using super one click root on my froyo 2.2? Do I still have to update? By update.zip?

After you used super one click root, delete that update.zip file that it places in your internal memory.
Then download rom manager, click flash clockwork-mod recovery and it should say boot into the blue recovery. In there click reinstall packages, and if it takes yiu to the blue screen again, click reinstall packages one more time and you should boot into clockwork from now on.
Ok thank you master and slave one more question do I still have to install the unzip thing from my internal sd? Or not a any more?

Since you are on 2.2, you need the modified 3e recovery. Then you should be able to get into CWM.
Or you can just use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509 and Odin back to 2.1 and not have any issues updating your ROM.
Reading all the guides helps alot with these questions.

The method I was giving you was for 2.1
Its easier to root from 2.1.
But the thread above should help
Another route around 3e recovery is to use a Voodoo kernel, because those have CWM baked right in. I recommend this because for whatever reason I couldn't get modded 3e recovery working.

[Q] Now that I have verizon 2.2 tell me how to fix CWM recovery

yesterday iwasaperson was extremely helpful to me. Thanks. I took my fascinate back to stock 2.1 and allowed it to update to 2.2. I then rooted my phone by flashing CWM recovery using ODIN. (red version) I had installed two files to root of drive one update.zip and the other for rooting the phone Su-----.zip. I ran them using the red version and restarted the phone. The phone is now rooted but I can't get back to CWM recovery.
I tried the following: I have ROM manager and flashed CWM but it wom't take. If I try to go into recovery I get the stock Samsung blue menu. I am thinking I need a different (CWM recovery comptabile) kernel or mod to get this to work.
Can someone help?
You need to flash a kernel other than stock, rebooting with the stock kernel will revert back to blue recovery

why dont you just flash CWM in odin again?
I have flashed CWM again with odin. It still won't take

This (though in reverse order).
You need to reflash CWM by odin, go into Odin immediately upon the first boot (not using Rom Manager!), and flash a new kernel from the SDcard. The stock kernel will trash CWM if it gets a chance to boot.
saf66. any ones in mind and where I can obtain them. And as if I weren't asking enough questions. (Sorry I know I am) Methods to flash them?
Or any others of you please
Go into development at the top of page open stickies and nitsu has a list of kernels,a well as roms

Problem flashing clockworkmod recovery

Hello,
I have just rooted my phone and am now attempting to get a custom recovery on it. After rooting, I downloaded rom manager and selected flash clockworkmod. A message came up and said it was successful, however when I try booting into recovery it goes to the stock android recovery. Any idea on what I am doing wrong would be helpful.
Thanks
Your problem is that you can't install CWM via ROM manager. The success message you saw was that it downloaded an update.zip file properly, nothing more. ROM Manger is also completely worthless for our phones.
How should I go about flashing clockwork then?
Odin via pda

Also download cmw 3 it has deify scripting n that's gonna be the future of what roms will be using

Read the stickies in the Development section, just so that you don't accidentally rush it and mess up.

Phone wont go into recovery

Im rooted on 2.2 and it wont go into recovery just the stock recovery. I have rom manager and clockwork recovery but it never goes into the green recovery. I have an update zip and ive done the the rienstall thing on the stock recovery but after that it reboots the phone. Ive been there before when i was on 2.1. Now this is just a fun phone its not the one i use. I put the 2.2 on through odin. I could not update through kies i think because its not an active phone. Ever since that i cant get into recovery to flash roms.

2.2 is a pain to flash recovery on. Just Odin to 2.1 and do it. Or search modded 3e recovery
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Did you reinstall packages twice? The first time it will reboot back into stock recovery. Reinstall packages again and it should then go to the green CWM recovery. Oh, and by the way, avoid Kies like the plague. It's notorious for bricking phones.
