I kinda had the same question as you and the feedback I got was that Project V seems to be what ppl are recommending. I installed bionix 1.3.1 and like it, no problems whatsoever, but I think I'm ready a day or so later to try something else. Project V is what I'm gonna go with.

Download destroyer of worlds aka DoW
I made mine go to 1.2 with, that
Also u need setcpu app
xriderx66 what rom are currently on vibrant 9?? and DOW is not on the market....
DOW is on Team Whiskys site in donator section last I checked. It's not an app it's a kernel.
is that kernel compatible with eugene373 vibrant9?? and do u install kernels just like roms?? with rom clockwork?? btw i am on eclair not froyo.... i need to know how i can install kernels if any1 can link me to a website or video on how to? thank you =D
btw im very thankful for all the info so far u guys are the best! i know noobs can get annoying at times but werent we all noobs at one point? haha thanks!
Kernals install through clockwork by choosing install file from SD and scrolling to the kernal.
Silly question, why flash a rom if it's still 2.1?
is 2.2 froyo suppost to be better?? i don't know myself because i am a noob =D
i am about to odin my phone right now lol.... anyways what's a great 2.2 rom out right now i heared axura is quite good... i also heared with 2.2 froyo GPS don't work =(

I currently have Nero 3 and Axura 2.2VE and they're both great Roms. I'm going to stay with Axura for now because I find myself flashing every other day and that needs to stop lol.
2.2 should have no negative effect on your GPS and it's better optimised for our hardware making everything just faster. It also has other abilities like flash support etc.
If you want to run DOW from Team Whiskey then you should go with Nero 3 as they will be compatible.
My question now is why the desire to OC the phone to 1.2?
tw core kernel should work with any 2.1 rom. i got decent battery life and performance with core.
as for 2.2 (which if you are flashing, i highly recommend going to a 2.2 rom), dow kills battery. i ran dow14bln with different nero versions (b2 and 3, and v1), and it would kill my battery in about 6 hours without even using the phone... but the performance was amazing.
just keep in mind that if you run a 2.1 rom you HAVE to use a 2.1 kernel, similarly 2.2 rom means you need a 2.2 kernel. and i'd get a rom/kernel combo working before thinking about adding in the potential headaches of a lagfix.
personally, i think nero v3 with the voodoo kernel is pretty good. not as fast as the 1.4ghz oc, but a good performance/battery life balance.
core can be found here: http://teamwhiskey.com/download.html
nero and dow can be found here: http://board.teamwhiskey.com/
ty u guys are awesome!! =D
I've been thinking about going to MIUI but I don't know which one to choose. There seems to be a couple versions on here.
Can they be flashed right over each other without having to odin back to stock?
Vibrant
Rom: Project-V
Kernel: Bali X 1.2
Love it.
Yes they can you might have to format data if there are problems ofc.

Yes,I flashed without wipes, and nothing wrong happened to me.
Worked fine for me everytime I flashed different versions
because of the slight variations they do recommend you format System/Cashe, clear Dalvik then flash. (you keep apps and account info this way) fix permissions afterwards.
Oh ok I see and is MIUI set up for over the air updates?
Im just looking for something more out of my phone and this seems the way to go.
I've been on ginger clone, bionix 1.3.1, and now project v. Used kernels like tigers blood, dragon, DoW, super_dragon modz, bali, and immortality. I think im ready for 2.3.4 and MIUI seems to be pretty customizable. I love that.

So uhhh, my boyfriend got me this phone a few days ago and I want to get a custom ROM on it. He's in alaska so he can't help me out for 14 more days, so Im here. Umm, well I just use AIO Vibrant toolbox to flash back to stock, so it's eclair I guess, not sure what that really means but thats what my phone says.
Then I rooted it, and it has superuser.
So what do I do now.. can you guys recommend me a ROM and help me install one? Like.. whats a good ROM, and.. what do I need to do. Do I need to update to froyo, if so how do I do that. Sorry Im such a newbie at all this, I hope someone helps me out!
Yeah and also like, I would like a ROM that looks awesome and is good for battery. Just an overall awesome popular one. Please if possible help me, or give me instuctions on like... installing it, I literally don't know diddaly squat about installing ROMS, I just wanna do it
the easiest way to install a rom would be to download rom manager. If you're gonna stick with froyo (which I recommend since its a lot easier to install and is better with battery), you won't have to get premium. after downloading rom manager, open it and select flash clockworkmod recovery at the top, then select galaxy S vibrant (make sure you select just vibrant NOT vibrant (MTD)). After that select reboot into recovery, if you are in CWM recovery then you can go ahead and reboot, if not, then select reinstall packages. It should then install CWM recovery and bring you back tot he same screen, select reinstall packages again and it should bring you to CWM recovery. After that go ahead and reboot, then go back to rom manager. Now you can go to download rom and select a rom you would like to install. I highly recommend project V or bi winning. Good luck!
I would recommend to flash a rom with rom manager. Its the easiest way to install any custom rom. You may have to vet the premium version for it but is so easy you can mess up.
I would recommend trigger project v or even trigger 3.2. Its fast and awesome.

I would suggest that you learn how to use Odin first before flashing a custom rom to your phone. Learn how to go to download/recovery mode. This way you know what to do in case you soft bricked your phone.
Then just flash in rom manager like what they said.

Oh and one important thing that the guys forgot to mentions above, Rom Manager is in the market, so yeah, and I would suggest you flash Bi-Winning V3 Rom

You are incorrect sir! Simply honey and revolution rom are better and faster than most froyo roms. I know because I've have tried them all. As for a froyo roms they are all decent and should try one of those before you move to gb. Warning flashing roms is addictive once you start its hard to stop. Good luck.

Darkyrom 10.2 I've flashed onto my gt-i9000m Canadian version and it works amazing.. definantly recommended. I had to flash a different modem though.

I recommend Bionix 1.3.1. It is known for its stability, and I feel it's a great rom to start off with. Novices and experts at flashing use it from what I have read in the thread. Also, it has decent battery life, but you can flash a new kernel (like Bali UV (undervolt)) which has showed to save battery life. I will put both links below for you to take a look at. Most of the time the instructions to install a kernel or rom are in the original post, however as stated you can flash through rom manager. If you want more in-depth details on how to install them, you can pm me, or I can post them here also.

Agreed, that is the set up I currently am using, I flashed a couple days ago and haven't been getting the battery life that others are claiming to have but the rom is really good. I've tried several of the gb roms and they are way to buggy its not even worth it.

just kidding folks
any way
i am wondering if i root my phone do i have to install a new ROM on it or my vibrant stock ROM will stay along with the contents that i have on..
and will i be able to switch to stock ROM easily" might do it when the official GB comes out if it comes out"
Thanks
If you root your phone you don't HAVE to flash anything, your phone will be the exact same only with superuser permissions.
If you do decide to flash anything it is very easy to get back to stock.

I highly suggest you play around with a few roms. the vibrant is extremely slow on the stock rom. Team whiskey makes great vibrant roms

Agreed.
Try some team whiskey roms with some different kernels. They're pretty stable and user friendly.
Don't hold your breath for official GB =] cause you'll suffocate.

stay away from any 2.3 roms that ask you to install GB bootloader should you decide to flash any custom roms. Atleast until you are comfortable with odin, flashing, etc.
as far as 2.2 roms go.... I recommend Trigger.
2.3 Roms CM7/Miui (no bootloader needed)
Hello everyone! I recently began contemplating rooting and doing custom installs for my 959, for something fresh and better performing, also seems my music player has been acting up recently and am really interested in something new along with voodoo sound... If necessary anymore ? Thing is, there are so many ways to root, and there are so many custom roms??? I don't know where to start or what to look for? I just want one of the better, stable, new custom roms available as of this date for the t-959. I search but seems there's no definitive answer? Just a lot of roms haha?
Also when downloading a rom, do I have to download like 30-40-50 kernels and add them? I see all these roms, kernels and update??? Is it just download a rom and that's it, am I making more of it than it should be?
I'm just really noob'ish, really confused, and really, really nervous! I can't afford to brick this phone, but I really want something new.
Thanks for reading, and I apologize for some of the silly questions I have asked .
I fell in love with rom flashing as it greatly improves performance and gives phone a new look. Especially since Vibrant isn't supported anymore.. I can't live without voodoo goodies=) Definitely improves sound.
Negative side of custom roms is it takes up some of your time.. Finding a rom you like, tweaking it.. Not too mention you might brick you phone.
If you decide so.. the most important thing is always read OP...
I used superoneclick to root. I recommend Bionix 1.3.1 as a first rom very stable though a bit outdated. After playing around with the rom, you can try different 2.2 kernels and modems. Then go on to gingerbread roms.=)
Extremely easy. I'd suggest reading some of my guides in my signature.
I would Odin
Then download a ROM (nothing else needed)
Download my option b update.zip
Move both to internal sd
Reboot into recovery
Click reinstall packages
Choose to install zip from sd, select ROM, reboot.
Sent using the XDA app.

Thank you trailblazer and thanks s15....
Any roms you would recommend s15? I appreciate the starting rom you gave me Trail, I'm looking for something a little more up to date I suppose? I was looking at cm7 or Simply Honey 5.0 Revolution(JVR GB 2.3.4)? Something with voodoo already in it? Something pretty stable with a bit of features. Maybe a lil less lag than stock 2.2, better performance, audio and battery life as well?
Thanks so much again both!
cm7 in nightlies still, though seem pretty stable, i havent tried for a while. Lots of features though dont think battery too great.
Simply Honey is a good one, stable, lots of features, great developer support.
I'm currently on RevolutionRom 2.3.4, stable and smooth for me, only bad is itfreezes like once or twice a day. More of a sgs2 look which i like. Good battery.
FYI Flashing Gingerbread roms, you will need to flash gingerbread bootloaders to remove rainbows and see recovery ( theres a post on it)
Also GPS isn't stable on gingerbread.

I think I'm gonna try the simply honey one or wait till he does a final release?, as for the bootloaders, what do I do or go to there? Also for the kernels, do I need to download one for simply honey? Should I download one for it?
I seen some roms or kernel can improve wifi and signal? Is that true, if so point me in that direction hahaha...
Thanks so much bro by the way.
search for Vibrant gingerbread bootloader, it's flashable via odin..simply honey roms comes with bullet kernel & there's Simply Honey Talon Kernel build by simone201 =)
Thanks man, do you mind if I ask which one you would recommend (Odin or Clockwork?)... I stumbled upon this youtube how to called "Custom ROM installation tutorial for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant)", and was just wondering if I can apply all his methods to SH 5.0? Sorry tried to link it but cannot due to my post count... Oh and when I'm done, how should I proceed with the new talon kernel?
Also if there's a new release of honey or the final release, say I installed this one... Do I have to do it all over again? Same wit kernels? Finally, do I need to revert my unrooted stock 2.2 froyo back to a previous version before gingerbread or any of this?
Thanks for your reply. I'm actually feeling like it's almost go time with this rom and kernel haha. Really thanks heaps!
D bootloader is only flashable by odin..you can read the OP for simply honey, what you need is all in there in d development area..flash kernel that works 4ur phone u decide on that wether bullet or talon..you can use sgs kernel flasher to switch bet the two..

One last question before I do this, I seen SH 5.1, but I seen it was for the i9000? Which one should be used? or the one you may recommend? Im looking for voodoo sound controls.
Thanks
EDIT:
Nevermind I read it will be up tomorrow... gonna do 5.1, this is pretty exciting as long as I don't screw anything up hahaha
i reverted back to stock firmware via odin and one click rooted my phone, factory wiped all data and now I remember after I rooted my phone I had unzipped file in my sd card and it told me that i can just delete it after I was done, well i did and then watched a video on clockwork that said not to delete it?
EDIT: Nevermind I fixed it, I just unrooted and rooted again...
So sorry for being a pain, I know you guys have better things to do.
3 questions and this thread is done... thanks for the help...
1. Does the market work on simply honey? Like can go in and search and download it like usual?
2. should I use odin to install 5.1 or cw?
3. how does the kb5 work? is that like default or do i have to flash it?
Thanks a million in advance!
