I have my atrix linked to my router but I forgot the wep key is there a way to see my saved wep keys?
no but theres a way if you have a windows 7 PC wirelessly linked to the same network.
1. Click wireless icon in bottom taskbar
2. Right click the network you are connected too and choose properties
3. Goto the security tab and click Show Characters
I would advise against using WEP for security on Wireless as it can be cracked in 5 minutes. Switch to WPA/WPA2 as its more secure.
There's an excuse to set a new password lol.
You can do this if your phone is rooted. There is an app on the market called wifi key recovery

I've never used wireless tether on my phone, but recently tried to. I'm running the Lightning Bolt 2.7 rom and I'm using Wireless Tether for Root Users. I hit "press to start tethering" and everything seems fine. I'm granted SU permission and it displays "press to stop tethering" which leads me to believe that the program is working correctly. I have 3G connection but I'm getting 0.0kb down and up and I'm unable to discover my Eris with any other device (my wife's Eris, PC, or laptop). Am I doing something wrong?

I think I've tried every free wifi tether app in exsistence. I've heard tetherWifi works but I don't want to pay $9 to test it...wish they'd let you try b4 you buy.
Stupid question, but do you have wifi turned on?
If so, there is an option in the settings of wireless tether app that's called enable access-control. If this is checked then you have to grant priviledges to the devices that you wish to connect to your phone. You will have to slide the notifications window down and then select the notification about some device that is trying to connect to your phones wifi. After you select that notification you must grant the priviledge before it will work.
Good Luck!!

I had my wifi turned off but I've tried turning it on and off. I enabled access-control, disabled it, turned bluetooth PAN tether on and off, and I've changed the settings to each of the different LAN network settings. Each time I return to the main page I'm seeing 0.0kB down and up. When I scan for wifi connections with my wife's phone, it never sees my Eris. I've even tried manually adding the wifi network on her phone by entering "AndroidTether" manually as the SSID which is what my phone says the SSID is. It adds it to her wifi networks but says that it is "Not in range, remembered".
Question - When you turn on Wireless Tether, before you connect any devices to it, does your phone display any kB going down or up? Or do you have to actually connect to a device to start pushing a signal?
You might need to start over. Do not mess with anything other than changing your SSID and enabling Access control. Do not use bluetooth for confusion reasons. When you connect with your wireless laptop watch for the access request, slide your notifications and then accept your device. You should be ok. Do not try to complicate things. Just KISS!!
PM me if you have any other questions!
That's my problem. I can't get other devices to even attempt to connect to my phone. The only notification I ever see is "tethering is currently running". I get superuser permission whenever I turn on tethering or change any settings that require it to restart tethering. But I never get any kB down or up and no other device ever recognizes the wifi connection.
Whenever I get an access control notification, it DOES NOT pop up. It is displayed subtly at the top of the phone and I have to slide my finger from the very top of the screen down to the bottom, and then the notification menu fully comes up. I then click the access control notification and check the device that is trying to access wifi through my phone. You have to pay close attention.
You could try to click on the menu button by your home button and select access control, and see if anything tries to attach. You will need to check the box for the device and then accept.

I understand that I have to view my notifications to see the notification. But there is never one there. No device sees a wifi signal because the phone isn't pushing one. It's my understanding that the app should be pushing a wifi signal that other devices can see and try to connect to. When I'm on my laptop or my wife's phone and I scan for a wifi network I DO NOT see my phone and therefore the device does not attempt to connect to my phone (and there is not a notification if I slide my finger down at the top of my phone to allow a connection).
The question I have is: when you begin tethering (BEFORE ANY DEVICE HAS CONNECTED OR ATTEMPTED TO) do you have kb's going down or up? Someone answering this simple question would help me tremendously!
Thanks!

To answer your question, no. if nothing is connected to the tether then the connection has no need to upload or download info.

Ok, thanx. That means my probem lies in the connection, not the actual tethering.

What version are you running? I'm not running a froyo rom so I havent been up to date on what works and what doesnt, but have you looked thru all the froyo rom threads to see if anyone else has had a tether problem? On aloysius, I have version 1.6 and it works fine, get info transfer up and down after I connect with my laptop. If you have access control enabled, you will need to authorize your device that is connected, if you can find it in wireless networks.
Is wireless tether bundled with the rom? You said you have tried all versions that you could find but I still have a feeling its the version of wireless tether you have, but it could also be that all versions you found are only compatible with 2.1.
Heres all I could find:
Wireless Tether
I'm on KaosFroyo v24. So I tried opening wireless tether and running it. I started it and did a wifi scan on my wife's phone. Still nothing. I got on the laptop and ran about a half dozen scans and it finally saw and connected to my phone, at which point data was streaming up and down. I had just assumed before since no data was streaming and I couldn't connect initially that something was wrong.
I still can't connect with my wife's phone (which was what I used most for testing) but I got it working.
Thanks to everyone for your help!!!

Is Barnacle working for our minis?
I've tried every suggestion I came across to no avail
Anyone care to post his configuration for android 2.1?
Ok, I only need barnacle so that I can create an adhoc network, no 3G connection.
Is this possible?

barnacle is working well for our minis.
1. enable data traffic
2. in the barnacle settings menu i set the name "X10 mini" at SSID and i checked WEP enabled and i set my password - 5 letters
3. go back and push start
4. allow superuser access
5. enable wireless from laptop/pc and push many times refresh
6. when the hotspot appear ("X10 mini" in my case) click connect and give the password
7. when the laptop is trying to set the ip (when the small wireless icon near the clock is clicking) push "associate" from the bottom of the display (near start button)
8. you must ensure that your laptop is not using any proxy
i tried with stock rom and kernel and also with your awesome roms and kernels.
And when auto-asociate is cheked wifi hotspot is much faster connectiable and foundable.
NAT must be enablet too.
But hey you say ad-hock which mean you wanna make adhock without 3.party app? Or what?
The NAT from this apps always retrace the 3G net.
What are u up to do NAa

I'm new to this site so I hope I'm posting in the right area. I was enjoying using my non-rooted G Tablet at work but the recently switched to a new network and my G Tablet can't even SEE it. I've just now wandered around the whole building to no avail. I know it is available and working because the students near me are using their laptops, smart phones, and tablets--and their only option for wi-fi is the school's one network.
They don't have an Android guide available, but they do have information for how to get connected using Windows devices:
Enter the SSID
Change Network authentication to: WPA2
Change Data Encryption to: AES
Click on Authentication Tab
Change EAP type to: Protected EAP
Uncheck Authenticate as computer when computer information is available
Select Authentication Method: Secured Password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
Uncheck automatically use my windows Logon name and password.
Now, obviously most of these things are not options on the G Tablet (at least not where I know to find them) and I don't know if they are helpful to solving this but I thought I'd include the info. I did try manually adding a new Wi Fi network. I wrote in the SSID, and chose "WPA/WPA2 PSK" option. But then it asked for a password which is not necessary in the guides. I will eventually log on using my work user name and password, but I can't get to that screen (and just out of frustration I did try entering my work password just to see if anything happened--it didn't).
I realize you can't know every setting my work place uses but I hope that's enough to figure out what's wrong. Is there something the G Tablet just doesn't support with the new network? If I rooted, could that help? I feel like the problem has to be my G Tablet since everyone else has working internet. I mainly bought the G Tablet to use here at work for the sites they've blocked. I'll survive without it but I'd really like to get some use out of my device!
Wow, not one helpful comment? Well IT finally got back to me and the woman thinks that my tablet doesn't support WPA2-Enterprise. Is this something I could change with rooting? And if so, which ROM or whatever should I use?

Not sure if these show up on Froyo roms but I'm on GTab Comb v3.3 (Honeycomb).
Try this:
Go to WIFI settings, select add WIFI Network, type in the SSID, for Security select 802.1x EAP, for EAP method select PEAP,for Phase 2 select MSCHAPv2.

I've been banging my head trying to get this working this week. Ultimately, I got my HTC Evo View to connect to my Sprint Epic. Thought I would share the method. Tested in 3G and with Wifi.
Here's the lowdown:
Devices
Sprint Epic
SPD-D700
Android 2.3.7
CyanogenMod-7-01242012-NIGHTLY-Epic
Build GWK74
HTC Evo Flyer
Hardware Version 0001
Android 3.2.1
Rooted
Needed Software
PDANet Tablet 1.06 on both devices
Auto Proxy (ROOT) Auto Proxy on Tablet
https://market.android.com/details?...EsImdwYy5teXdlYi5oaW5ldC5uZXQuQXV0b1Byb3h5Il0.
Steps
1. I started by installing PDANet on both devices.
2. Turn on Airplane mode and then turn on bluetooth on the tablet. Turn on bluetooth on the phone. Pair both devices. (Don't know if this step is necessary but this is what I did first).
3. In Auto Proxy, I set Proxy Host to 127.0.0.1 and Proxy Port to 1234. I did this because the proxy settings click through button in PDANet was not giving my proxy settings on the Tablet. After doing this, I was able to click on the "Proxy Settings" button inside PDANet on the tablet and it took me to the proxy settings, which I again set to to 127.0.0.1 and 1234.
4. On the Epic (phone) I enabled PDANet as server. Do the next steps before your phone is no longer bluetooth discoverable.
5. On the tablet, I enabled PDANet as client. Then pushed the proxy settings button, set the proxy settings, as described in step 3. You may have to click the proxy settings button a couple times in PDANet before it goes to the right place.
6. Click the connect link inside of PDANet on the View. Make sure you do this within the allotted time that your phone is still discoverable through Bluetooth.
7. Test your connection. For me it worked like a charm.
Cheers,
javahead76
I just wanted to mention. If you want to access the internet through other means again (revert), you will need to clear proxy settings and save in both apps. Then you probably won't need to mess with anymore.
Also, PDANet Tablet Beta was hard to find on the internet, but I did eventually find it.
Can you please upload the Pdanet 1.06 somewhere? It's not available in the market anymore.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 (Mini) with Jelly Bean 4.1.2. I recently bought iPad 4 (Wifi only) and decided to try to do some tethering with my phone. I entered the "Tethering and portable hotspots" submenu and paired up successfully with the iPad. However, I couldn't access the Internet with the iPad even though the connection to my S3 was okey. Everything just seemed to be loading and loading, and Chrome said something about DNS servers. I gave up and tried to Bluetooth-route. Again I was successful in connecting the two devices with the link symbol appearing in the upper left of the iPad's screen. Yet again the Internet did not work.
I should mention that I live in a country where there's no tethering regulation so I can just use the default tethering settings. I did think about if using Avast, power saving mode or anything other affected the tethering process, but after turning Avast and power saving mode off, nothing happened. I also double-checked that I could access Internet via my phone. I also double checked that I had my mobile data on.
There isn't any setting in S3's "Tethering and portable hotspots" submenu that I could try to change (I've tried tethering with and without a password). I can do something about hotspot Wifi-connection from the iPad (according to the manual):
Adjust the settings for connecting to a Wi-Fi network: Tap next to a network. You can set an HTTP proxy, define static network settings, turn on BootP, or renew the settings provided by a DHCP server.

However, I cannot do anything if I try to create a hotspot using Bluetooth.
I would appreciate help immensely!
On the tethering section, and since you only doing it for an ipad, go to configure the access point and tap advanced settings. Try changing the broadcast channels from auto to 10.
I work on a technical support desk and it seems that Ipads are very very fussy on lower channels, i am unable to test this as i don't own an Ipad but it may be worth a shot.

Thank you for this suggestion. Unfortunately it did not work. I also tried channels 4 and 11 instead of Auto without success.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I have solved the issue. The trick was to add my provider's internet information (server, port) to iPad's settings. This is weird as with my old phone, Samsung Bada, I just had to create a Wifi hotspot with a few clicks and that's it.

Could you please be more precise regrading the solution you found : What configuration did you make in you iPad, which information, in which configuration menu ?
Thank you for your help.

I first created the Wifi hotspot connection between SG3Mini and the iPad. In SG3Mini, I entered Settings -> More Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names (APNs) -> *chose my provider's Internet/Wap settings* -> wrote down Proxy, Port, (User Name, Password)
Then in iPad, I entered the Wifi-settings, Tapped the > next to the SG3Mini's Hotspot connection and added the APN info in the HTTP Proxy settings. I originally tried to use the User Name and Password but it didn't work so I just used Proxy and Port. Then I tapped the "Renew" option.
After this, I could tether without problems.
