Dear all,
Strange potential issue with my ASUS Prime...
When I connect it to my PC with MTP, I'm not seeing all the files. E.g. I have a folder which contains about 15 media files and on my Windows 7 machine I only see 3 of them..
Is there another way to access the internal storage over USB ? I would like to use a Linux system to copy large amount of files..
Thanks
I already found that I can see the "missing" files by first executing a rescan.
There is an app for this SDrescan in Android Market
So still asking if we can do anything to get the old USB storage back ?

This USB storage thing IS a problem on Linux sytems with the Prime, right now. I tried everything to get it to work one day ... before finally realizing that I was wasting my time.
To copy files, you could use ADB, but that is really slow for large amounts of copying, and you do have to install the Google SDK on your machine (which isn't a bad thing, but takes time.)
3 other solutions (1 & 2 are a 2-step copy process ... and only #1 is a USB method):
1) Instead of MTP, you can use the photo option (PTP, I believe) ... it's the choice right next to MTP in your settings. Unfortunately, with this method, you can only copy to your photo folder, so from there you would need to move your files to your final destination folder. PTP did allow me to see and move any type of files.
2) Copy your files to a microSD and plug them into your Prime's microSD and copy from there. (I know this is an obvious solution, but for completeness, I included it!)
3) AirDroid -- I've used this, and it works well ... probably quite slow for large amounts of copying.
Not the greatest solutions, but they will get you by...
One thing that i discovered that let me see all my files and be able to copy them to my TFP without issues is adding the UDEV rules. wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Udev gives you a good walkthrough on how to do that, just do the all models part and change the vendor id and everything should work for you. I verified this with LinuxMint and LMDE
Hi guys!
I recently had a look trough the memory of my Smartphone and I noticed something strange. In every folder that I have a file there's also a file with the exact name and it has the .exe extension. These files only have about 65 kb per each file.
Now as far as I know the .exe files only work under windows and not Android, which is Linux-based.
So should I be worried? I searched some more and I saw that in the folders where there are no files these .exe files are not present.
Any ideas? Are they harmless?Thanks!
P.S- My computer, as far as I know, does not have any viruses. I have kaspersky 2013 running on it
Later edit/// Nevermind, I just connect my phone via USB with mass storage and I was able to scan it.. Looks like I have a virus(Worm:Win32/[email protected]) that I may have gotten from a friends computer. I remember I hooked my phone up to that pc last week.
I have a rather bizarre case and I haven't been able to resolve.
I've connected my device to a Windows machine as a MTP(mass storage). I use it to update music files/ image files and so on.
And most of the files are recognized as an empty folder.
At first I thought it was only for the music files(.mp4, m4a, etc) but I'm seeing the issue with .jpg files and so on.
Any files that my Windows recognizes are files which I've updated recently(as recently as few days ago).
The following is the spec
device - Nexus 5
OS version - 4.4.2
My phone is not rooted.
Due to the nature of the issue, the searches I've done were very polluted and consequently, not very helpful, so I'm posting it here.
Any help is appreciated.
thank you.
Hello,
I installed yesterday a custom rom with 2.3.4 for an Xperia Play device and I've noticed that the phone is properly recognized, all drivers are fine, I can go into fastboot mode, bootloader unlocked, etc... and I can see the microSD card from the phone when this is plugged to the computer via USB.
The problem is that I copy files from the computer to the phone, windows takes its time and at the end says that it's all good, you can see the files in the phone, however when you then unplug the phone and go to that location, none of the new files are there?! :S
More weird is that then you plug the phone back to windows and the files appear there again?
Any idea what could be going on? and how I could copy files from windows to this android in this case?
Cheers!!
Maybe just links
Maybe you just linked to the files on your Computer. Move/Rename them on your Computer and see if you can still open them on your phone. If no you just created a link to the data stored on your computers hard drive. If yes I also can't tell you what's going on
Thanks, no the files were the complete files, no links.
I've been looking into this further, and reflash the mobile with a total different rom and still happening there (although with this new rom doesn't happen 100% of the times like with the other). What I've just now noticed is that the mobile doesn't recognize those files, but... if I REBOOT it, then they appear once it starts up?! so weird.... :S
Hi all,
I'm having trouble with copying files to the phone. When I connect it to my PC via USB The device pops up in explorer, but every time I try to copy something it fails. When I try to copy entire folders (I'm trying to copy Flac and MP3 music) W10 gives an error that it can't copy the files. When I try to copy files, it shows the copying dialog, but nothing ever happens, however long I wait. I've tried debugging mode, uninstalling Kies, Uninstalling the Samsung drivers, installing ADB drivers,... nothing seems to work. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
I've also tried a new USB-C 3.1 cable, to no avail. I'm using the USB 3.0 port. When I try an USB 2.0 port with the USB 3 cable, the phone doesn't show up. Which is weird I guess but maybe due to the nature of USB-C.

I forgot to mention that I tried copying a picture from the phone to my pc, which worked perfectly.
Hello, I know your message was time ago, but I have now exactly the same problem with a Leeco LE 2, also with C-type USB, and searching for some solution I have found your question. ¿Did yoy manage to find the way to fix this problem?
Regards

You probably connected your phone to the PC as Camera(PTP).
When you connect your phone to your PC, the USB symbol should appear at the top of the screen. Swipe your finger from top of the screen down you will see the USB symbol saying USB for charging. Click on it you will see the 3 connection options, pick Media device(MTP) and you should be able to copies files between your PC.
Thank you for your response, but I'm afraid that this was right, I tried it with the MTP mode enabled.
me too i have problem of copy , I can transfer files to the phone, but I can not copy from the smartphone to the pc
MTP and usb debug is actived
i cant recover my TWRP backup
With version of software do you have?
Running 21s build with Server2016 and when I tried to cut the /DCIM/Camera directory frome the LeEco it just deleted it. Ughhhh.
Did you manage to solve this?
I'm in the same situation. I can't copy mp3 files to the internal memory of the device.
