Ext. Questions! - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hey guys! The last time I flashed Darktremor's apps2sd,I swap 0 and ext.512mb. And using ext.4 now! I heard swapping other number and ext on 1GB would give us more space to install apps! Is that true?

its first time for me heard something like that. generally 512 MB fo EXT is very very very enough

Yeah, bigger partition -> more space. Kinda, hmmm, obvious, LOL.
(I have 444 MB out of 1GB free at the moment on sd-ext.)

I have 1GB of Ext4 part. And only 302 MB are free. How many are my apps? 257.

Messed with the ext. stuff and realised the small the size if ext. 2, more apps can be installed!

hehehe dude how do u keep them from firing up on their own and eating the battery

the size of the partition generally depends on how many apps you have...i have hundred apps and am using a 512 mb partition with 200 mb free....if you have a 2 gb card..512 mb partition is sensible enough..but if you have a card with higher memory ...you can get a 1 gb partition...which you ll require if you are installing around 200 to 300 apps...
I had a question: Can we move media files like songs and videos to the partition??

I guess you can but it's beside the point. You created a partition so you have more space to install your apps, why would you want to clutter it with media?

Higher sd card's class means faster r/w speed. I'd suggest you to use class 6 or at least class 4.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium App

well yeah i know that..but lets say i would use maximum of 350 mb ob apps and other things ...then i can use the rest for media file....as we have only standard sizes like 250 mb,512 mb....can you explain how do we do that...

You cannot in recovery. Partition it in PC.

[Q] What is the recommended size for the ext partition?

Hello Everybody! I was thinking about what is the recommended limit for the ext partition size? I have a 16GB Class 4 card and I intend to use Mik_os' ROM. Will there be a problem if the size is 2GB or even more as I like playing games on the phone and a lot of them are 20-30 MBs each. What do you think?
There is no problem on kernel or the ?2sd scripts side.
i think 512 mb is enough because on the ext part you will store only the apk's, the game data goes on the sd card and his own folder
You can go for 1-2 gb. I have 1 gb.

[Q] How do I use a swap partition?

Sorry if I sound very dumb, but how do I use a swap partition?.. I know its like a "ram extension", please correct me if Im wrong. Could you also give opinions to what size should I put as a swap partition? Im planning to buy a 8gb class 10 microsdcard. Thank you.

Swap is Hard Disk space being used as RAM . When the system is low on memory , the applications that are inactive will get swapped to the Hard Disk . This allows more RAM to be freed for other applications and for a smooth experience .
Applications also have the ability to get swapped back and forth , so multitasking is not a problem

A swop partition is for computers that do not have enough ram. As far as I known Android (linux) OS is very good in dealing with memory. I have not seen anything on XDA developers forum in relation to this question. Android does not need a swop-disk or partition.

40mb swap is enough. swap is a backup plan: don't treat it like your actual ram.

Thanks! May I ask some other questions, without going too much OT?
In apps2sdGUI there are several low memory settings, but how do they work? There's no explanation of what they do...
In the end, always on apps2sdGUI should I change the dalvik VM heapsize standard value? Is there any benefit from doing it?
Thank you!

You can do it from pc using minitool partition wizard!

you also can try with CWM Recovery 4.0.0.9 if u using CF-root..
Reboot into recovery > choose advanced > partition SD card > then pick ur sd-ext and swap size..
for me, swap work best at the minimum 32M, larger than that would be problem later
i tried partitioning.. i have 1g sd-ext and 32m swap.. i chech a2sd repair it said sd-ext not mounted. i tried mounting it manually in cwm but still it doesnt mount. then i tried a2sd install, but when i checked titanium backusd,, my system rom and sd(a2sd) is identical.. what have i done wrong?..
Dunno.. maybe you should try reflashing!

maybe. or ill just do a nandroid restore. my system rom 42mb free become 12mb after a2sd.. lol

[Q] SGS II Live OC!

Hi all
I own an SGS 1 so I'm on CM10.1 with Semaphore kernel which is supporting live oc (and I've managed to live oc it up to 128% working stable), so it's a month now I've purchased a used sgs2 and wanted to get it higher as my older sgs1, having in mind it's dual core and using 1gb ram I think it's going to be lot faster than my sgs1
So I saw there are plenty of options for roms based on cm10.1 and even cm10.1 itself as on sgs1!
But although I've searched quite a lot, haven't found easily a kernel supporting live oc!! Isn't there such an option for sgs2?
Also whats' the limit of OC/LIVE OC in rough words of course (I know that it depends on each certain device) and what are your average scores in Antutu?? Are they really around 12000?
EDIT: Since I've been start searching for two days now on issues other people deal with I've found lot of threads and posts commenting about the internal storage that it's divided in 2 parts.....2gb for the whole rom-apps + almost 12 gb for the user!!
Now is this true?!?!
I'm using the sgs1 8gb internal card as a whole....isn't it the same here on SGS 2?
So if I install let's say Asphalt 7 which screams for almost 1.5gb, data goes straight to 2gb "system" partition?? Or maybe "data" folder is on the 12gb partition?
Can't this be used as a whole?
Thank you all
C'ya
I believe I ve placed my question in the right place...but no answer from anyone???!!!

Search in original Android Development section for kernels that supports oc.
And the maximum oc is 1.6 ghz but the stable is 1.4.ghz but the oc will drain the battery even faster.
And you don't need to oc this phone his 1 gb ram and 1.2 ghz will not give you any lag on any hd apps.

Those 2 partitions that are divided our internal storage is system and sd card.
In the system are going all apps that you'll gonna install and in the sd card will going all data from those apps.
Hope I clear you out

Photos and video recordings are going straight to sd card(not the 2gb partition) hopefully??

I9505xxubmea Apps dont move to SD

After the app2sd update i tried it with most of my apps and even it was acknowledged that the app is now moved to the SD card, there were no difference in space usage neither on the Sd card nor the internal memory. It drives me crazy
ShadowGun THD for instance
BEFORE -------------- AFTER (APP on SD card)
Total: 643 MB.................. 643 MB
Application: 7,14 MB................ 288 KB
SD card app: 0,00 B.................... 8,16 MB
Data: 36,00 KB................ 36,00 KB
SD card data 636 MB...................636 MB
No CLUE I tried 3rd party app2sd programms as well = same result
Any one ?
Anyone ?
It did exactly as intended. It moved your apk to the sd card. The update does not relocate the app's data.

Thx for replying but what's the point of it anyway if it doesn't move my 1.2gb Game but its shortcut application so to speak.
I mean what good is it to save about 150 MB from 50 apps I dont get it

It is pretty pointless, which is why not too many people were excited about it after seeing how limited in scope it was going to be. Personally, I'd recommend using the pro version of Folder Mount. I'm in the process of setting it up on my phone and find it to be a better solution than Samsung's.

Android ram expansion to SD?

Does anybody know if this is posible with android? Similar to have windows has turboboost. Like one would get a very fast read/write sd card to add more ram to there phone. I know many phones the internal storage is pretty slow so a high speed microsd would be alot faster than full ram trying to read and write to storage which we have all seen drag extremely.
Im content with the speed of my phone but its always out of ram :\

I don't even mind if it uses the whole SD card. I'd love to find like a 4gb crazy fast card. I don't know exactly what ram swap means. Unless it puts suspended program ram on sd
