Running the latest version of Greyblur, I noticed in the feature list it said sideloading enabled however i can't seem to figure out how to sideload after installing greyblur
Any help would be greatly appreciated
(i would have posted in the greyblur thread in dev section but i am a noob)
help anyone? i know i can sideload through SWM but i'd like to be able to utilize titanium pro backups for my apps
Root for apps such as Titanium Backup, which you have if GreyBlur is installed.
Sideloading allows installation of non market apps.
Beamed in from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium app

Topic says it all, I just installed Gingerblur 1.2 after flashing then rooting and updating to 1.57 w/root before installing Gingerblur.
Still new to this and was wondering how to install Non-Market apps if possible at all.
just put the .apk on your phone. either via external sd card, usb connection to PC for mass storage, or email it to yourself as an attachment. there are other ways as well.

yeah you gotta enable something called sideloading. Then your good to go! this can be done when you first root using the gladroot method. It will ask you if you want sideloading just click yes! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060 Actually gingerblur itself will enable sideloading too and if none of that is working for ya try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1017373
Thank You guys.
Also when I did root it asked me to install some tethering option and I selected yes because I would like to be able to tether. What did it install during that option and how do I use it.
What is sideloadind and how do use it
sideload is mean that you can install an apk from your SDcard.
It also means you can install Amazon App Store (currently blocked by AT&T) and download apps from there.
Its more than that. Sideloading basically allows the installation of third party apps from anywhere, which means that you're no longer restricted to the app market. To enable it use gladenable, which you can find in the development section.

pardon my ignorance, I have not enabled sideloading but I have several APKs downloaded and saved to my SD card. I just use Astro to install them. Is this not what sideloading does? Or am i missing something completely?

I recently installed nightly build #6 of cm7 for the first time and I don't have market, Gmail, etc. I have searched the forums and have already tried installing Google apps via rom manager. My phone enters recovery for a split second then rebooted and still no apps. Also my Rom manager is no longer the premium version. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't use any of the nightly builds of CM7.
However, I don't understand why you can't just place the apk onto your root and click to install.
Or better yet, use root explorer and just place the entire apk into the apps folder.
Those 2 aren't options?
Unfortunately I'm not near a computer and I'm brand new to cm7 so I wasn't sure if there is just a quick fix. Also I would like to know how I can get my apps back without having titanium anymore and no market..
Hi Guys,
I am trying to find Facebook and Twitter Application for NT.
Even though i have widget for both, i am looking for Application.
Can somebody help me with Apk..
Cheers!!!!
Im looking for this as well so I will be watching for an answer.
Thanks
Are you guys looking for THE Facebook app, because AFAIK, it does not work on the NT. I don't know about the official Twitter app. I use Tweetdeck (sideloaded from my phone).
I should have said the "roooted" NT
Try this for Facebook

you have to use an older version for it to work

No you don't, I have the latest versions of both and they're running flawlessly.
I'll post the apks in a sec.

I've attached the apks.
Flawless Victory! Facebook app works and Widget too! TY for this.
FYI: The newest versions of both apps work on the NT. The market just won't allow you to download them [another reason I'm returning this thing.] You need to sideload the apks.
even if you went with the KF, your stuck with 8GB without expansion....worse screen, more fragile, etc

Actually, I sideloaded those apks before I rooted, and they wouldn't work once I'd rooted. I went into the Market and replaced them with the Market versions and they work just fine.
@Torrential91
Did you lift the Twitter .apk from a rooted device and if so...what directory was it hiding in?
I spent 45 minutes this morning looking in my old Hero and couldn't find it. I came here to to get the treasure map and you have just delivered the treasure.
Thanks!
any idea where the Google+ .apk might be?

Thanks Torrential91 - downloaded and installed both. Facebook works great, twitter wouldn't install. Do you know if I need to edit the file name to remove the % etc?

@deralaand
I actually downloaded it from the internet, so no. Haha.
And for the twitter app, you shouldn't have to...but go ahead and try and let me know what happens.

EDIT: For those of you who are rooted, I just made a thread in this forum on how to install apps that aren't showing up in the marketplace. Maybe that will help as well.
I'm still getting FC's from the com.facebook.katana-2.apk.
Anyone else experiencing this/fixed it?

Are you trying to use it on a rooted NT? Which root did you use?
This time around I'm using the Snowball root.
Yeah, snowball-mod has some issues with Facebook and the XDA app... I'm looking into it now.
Hi,
I downloaded the apk via your link above from the browser on my rooted NT (basic root using Indirect's latest instructions), and the download completed. But when I select it (to install it) my Nook says "Cannot open file."
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Do not use the built-in file explorer. It was designed to prevent people from sideloading applications. Check out "ES File Explorer".
Quick question. I rooted my NT, and to block OTAs all I did so far was to freeze DeviceManager 2.3.4 using Titanium Backup. I've been looking through all my apps, selected Hulu Plus and nothing happened. So I uninstalled, and went to the Android Market to re-install, but now it says it's incompatible. Anybody else having this problem? And how would I fix it?
That is weird. I rooted mine and blocked the OTA. I can still find my Hulu+ app when I use the Go Launcher EX.

I used Indirect's method of rooting. Again, I have not done the full OTA block; my software version says "unavailable". I wonder if keeping it like that, versus getting it to 9.9.9 has anything to do with it???
Here's the Hulu+ apk.
