[Q] Yet another Odin connection problem. I'm getting sick of this :( - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guyz, i just bought sgs2 yesterday, previously i've been using SGS for the past 8 months
No matter what i do, i can't get Odin to detect my SGS2 in download mode.. !
{

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
but the weird thing is, it detects the phone if its in 'switch on' mode
These are what i've done:
- installed kies
- installed driver from kies
- factory reset sgs2
Info:
* i even reformat my Windows 7 (i thought it gets conflict with my previous SGS driver) and started everything from fresh but still fail
* Kies detects my phone, i can browse contacts etc. but Odin still fail to detect in download mode
* my phone is a branded O2 Ireland. Sim free
* i've tried on other PC but still fail
Please help me, i lost hope.. i just want to Root my phone

Did you try a different usb cable? And did you close all kies programs?
Alt+Crtl+delete >> Taskmanager >> Processes and terminate everything with kies in the name.

Did you try with usb debugging off and on?

You can try heimdall

Does windows see the phone drives via USB mass storage mode ..If not its your USB drivers and thats what Odin requires .
Tried a different Odin Odin3 v1.3 always worked for me .

Problem w/ ODIN, pls help!

Hi all... I downloaded the link provided here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799105) because I have rooted my phone and am in the process of upgrading it to the 2.2 froyo. However, when following s15274n's post and watching his video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMSF-SumO3k) it seems like when you boot up your phone into download mode, it should show up in ODIN in the id:com section. I was following his video to a T but my phone is not showing up there whatsoever.... so what do I do and how do I fix this?
Install drivers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
i just did that but it downloads "DriverBoost" and you have to pay and register it so it will update all your driver's for you.... is this what I have to do?

just install kies, and it will include the drivers.
kies is free.
I think there is a vibrant kies mini version, but I use the following european full kies.
here is the link

edit:
you can get kies mini here
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/
install it on my computer or phone? and from where? do you have a recommended link?

yeah, my computer... also, after i install kies mini, i won't need to do anything else to update the drivers, right? it will automatically update everything with the install, correct? thanks so much for your help... i'll advise in a few if it works or not...

kies should have all the drivers.
ok, i rebooted my computer... now it does appear that Odin is recognizing my phone! but just to make sure, in Odin one of the "id:com" ports is highlighted yellow and says "0:[COM3]", is this correct?

yes that is fine, the number doesn't matter.
watch this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGMDycXJ2i0
btw, not sure what you are trying to do, but if you are trying to update to 2.2, why don't you just use rom manager and clockwork recovery to flash a rom.
Axura 2.0.5 and the Stock Froyo JK6 that sombionix uploaded is fantastic.
Not sure what you are really trying to do.
Its always better to Odin black top stock so you don't keep ghost from other rom

Can't update via Kies

Hi,

when this message appears, the phone is on downloading mode, and it stays like that until I take out the battery. The update obviously faills.
Any ideas? thanks

To update via kies you don't need download mode.
Just connect the usb cable with the phone on.

I know, it put the phone in download mode by itself, while trying to install the update!
Guys, please help..
uninstall your Kies and reinstall it please.
My advice would be to ditch it for the piece of crap that it is and use Odin to flash the firmware.

I use odin and have used KIES in the past. What I find is that when you flash with odin you have to clear data on a lot of apps to make them work. I have never encountered this issue when updating the "regular" way. Odin does get the updates faster, but it seems to work cleaner.

Try the update again and when it fails and you have to restart the phone yourself, don't close down kies, instead reconnect the phone to your pc. It should if i remember correctly go into a recovery mode and complete the install.

It didnt help, when i restarted the phone and plugged it back, kies didn't do anything and it was waiting for me to close the error message. I clicked ok and the upgrade was closed I got back to the same position as when I just plug the phone..
I got the exact same problem and I have tried everything in this thread.
My theori is that the computer (win7) doesn't recognice the phone correctly after the restart into Download Mode.
When I first connect the phone with the USB cable win7 recognices that phone as Samsung USB Modem, but when Kies restarts the phone into Download Mode the computer states that it is Samsung USB Modem #2 or sometimes even #3 or #4.
And I don't have a clue how to solve this.
Ok, using a different computer has solved the problem
thank you guys
I have solved it for this time.
I uninstalled program and drivers. Rebooted and changed USB connection. Installed Kies and drivers again. Then it worked.
Just took me about 20 times of testing and 2-3 reinstalls.

As a safety precaution, it won't show up if you have the screen locked. When you plug it in to your PC, put in your pattern to unlock/passcode etc, and you'll find you will then have access to your SD/ext SD cards.

If all else fails, try 'WiFi File Explorer Pro' from the Play Store. A mate of mine had a HD2 with a broken charger port, and managed to run his phone fine for ages. If I'm ever out and about and don't have a USB cable handy, I just fire up the app and transfer away!!

This has been covered many times over the past few weeks here (days even). There are a set bunch of things you need to try, search for similar threads (try trawling through the last week's worth of posts rather than using search if search doesn't throw up what you need).

Odin does not recognize smartphone after installation of combination

I have a J700m (J7 2015). I installed a combination with Odin and didn't put a custom recovery. Now when I connect the phone to the PC with Download mode it is not recognized by Odin or any other application, even with Windows emitting USB connection alert sound. I've reinstalled the Samsung drivers and it's still the same. I tested it with 3 different cables and even on another computer, and it still doesn't recognize it on Odin. I hope someone helps me, I want to get this phone back.

No :C
Step 1: You need to install the HTC drivers (Google, Samsung etc...) in the normal mode your PC will find your phone, but when you turn into Fastboot you get that error "Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) "
Step 2: Make sure you see that error in your Device Manager under USB - Controller
Step 3: Open "regedit"
Step 4: Navigate to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\usbflags
Step 5: Create a new Key called
0BB40FF00100
Step 6: In that Key you create a Binary Value
Name: SkipBOSDescriptorQuery
Value: 01 00 00 00 (ignore the "0000" at the beginning)
Step 7: Reconnect the Phone
If that doesn't work try using linux instead of windows as a test to see whether it is a phone or windows issue
