SMS from Phone to Archos 101 - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are there any apps that will divert sms from my phone (HTC Touch HD) to my A101, and let me send SMS from my A101 via my phone?
Many thanks

I use Google Voice. It lets my SMSes send and receive on any device. The Archos still can't do voice calls yet, but the SMS works fine.
You have to have a google voice number, or port your cell's number to google for $20, but it makes life very nice. You get Voicemails in the same Inbox, with a recording and the Voice-to-text, so I can check my Voicemails on my Archos too.
I attached the version that works for me. Set up your phone first, then when setting up the Archos, select your cell phone as the "current device."

Google Voice Mail Notification (Sprint Touch Pro)

Hi Everyone,
I have a sprint touch pro and I am using Google voice as my voice mail provider. Since I no longer use sprint as the voice mail provider I don't get the nice voice mail notification on my phone. Is there a way to hack the phone so that when someone leaves me a voice mail on Google voice I would get the notification on my phone? I hope I explained this correctly and any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jerry
No...the voicemail notification comes from the network. Google Voice wouldn't have the ability to send that signal to your phone. The best you can do is have them send you a text message notifying you of new voicemail. Unless someone can write some sort of intermediary driver to intercept that type of formatted text (similar to what other apps do like nuegpssecurity) and notify you otherwise.

Thanks
Thanks man but this is wayyyyyy over my head.

how is google voice for voicemail? havent really looked into what google voice is actually
Can't you have the voicemail transcriptions sent to an email address? Why not just set up an email account on your phone to receive them?
There is an option on google voice for it to send a message to your cellphone when you have a voicemail.
It's under:
Settings
General>Notifications
If you just have GV transcribe your VM to texts and then SMS it to your mobile phone, you'll probably never have listen to a voice message again. That's what I did and I don't believe that I have called in for my VM messages once since I did this many months ago.

[Q] Confused as to how SIP, GV, and Dialer integrate on Archos

Right now, I am unable to make outgoing calls from my Archos 43 running UrukDroid 1.0 (I've tested using stock firmware 2.3.26) and I don't understand how I'm supposed to make calls by routing my call through google voice if I have no dialer. My setup looks like this: PBXes provides SIP -> use IPKall for a free washington state number -> use to validate google voice with a softphone (I used 3CXPhone). The only successful way I've been able to make calls was using 'connect with phone' on the google voice site, which called my sip number -> address and I was able to receive the call using Sipdroid base. I'm not going to have desktop access to google voice all the time though, so I tried CSipSimple as well, which just hangs up right away (Sipdroid hangs up instantly when you try sending the call) The weird thing is, it shows that Sipdroid is dialing [email protected] rather than the actual number, which makes sense to me because it's an SIP dialer/client. Now, I want my calls to be routed through google voice, not sent to my SIP provider. What is the easiest way to do this? Thank you!
Edited:
Setting up a trunk and outbound route in PBXes or using SIPSorcery (it doesn't actually provide SIP) just plays some really weird opera music on every outgoing call.
I used fring for sip and that was working ok.
comes with its own dailer and you can use the normal contacts.

This can be done for free on Webos , How to pair(almost) any phone with TouchPad to send and recv SMS/Calls!!! Like Pre3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290274. i have done this myself and it works perfectly.
Also if you install SMS Backup+ on your phone you can link to any Gmail A/C and Automatically backup SMS, MMS and call log entries using a separate label in Gmail / Google Calendar. It is also possible to restore SMS and call log entries back to the phone.

Hope this is of use.
yes i know that this can be done in webos, i did it there and i was exited to find a way to do it in cm9 too cause its sooo cool feature not only about sms but for handling calls too. So now i have another reason to get anxious for microphone fix
anyway its an easy and unique app that i was looking from the first time a got my tp so i thought to share it.

[Q] Google Voice

I have the rezound, as well as a Kindle Fire, and I installed Google Voice on them. I read through other threads, and no luck with my problem.
I have used Google Voice on my computer to call and text people, and with my upcoming trip to europe, it would be nice to use that to call people back home.
Problem, I have it installed on two devices, yet on both it doesn't give me the option to call, or even compose any sort of message at all. Any ideas on what I can do? The only options I get are refresh, settings, and search.
For me, when I'm in my inbox (or any other folder) I have a compose button on the bottom left. For calls, can you go into settings, Making calls, and change it to ask for all calls? Then use your dialer to place a call and it should prompt you.

click settings. the second option in the settings menu controls the ability to make calls via google voice. it is however done by dialing a forwarding service and therefore uses your minutes. it is not voip.

I pretty much use Google Voice as my primary mode of voice calling. You don't make a call through the app. Simply go to settings, and tell it to either use GV for every call, or ask it to prompt you at every call whether to call from your phone or to call from GV. Then when you simply dial as normal through the dialer app, it will either just use GV if you told it to, or ask you which to use.
BTW, All GV calling functionality is disabled on wifi tablets. I honestly have no experience with 3G/4G tablets, but on my Wifi Transformers I have to install a SIP client on the tablet and route GV calls to another VOIP service I use.

I'm a bit confused. I thought the only Google Voice calling solution was GrooveIP if you want to send and receive calls properly for your Google Voice phone number. GrooveIP does not use your minutes and is definitely VOIP.
On every device I tried it on, there is a bit of delay with GrooveIP, but the quality is good (good internet connection required, whether its 4G or strong 3G or WiFi.)
Can you please elaborate a bit? Are you just using Google Voice app, but its using your minutes?

When you use the google voice app, it dials into the google voice services which then forwards the call to the number you dialed. You get charged for the minutes during the call as a result. This also breaks free mobile to mobile calling.
GrooveIP is a 3rd party app that lets you connect to GV via VOIP so you don't have that forwarding call.
Use sipdroid with pbxs function. Tie it to Google voice, download Google voice callback, and presto. Have it on an old evo for my 8 year old daughter. She loves texting with Google voice. Makes her feel like a teenager. There is sometimes a slight echo, but completely usable.

This is exactly how I made voice calling possible with my GV number on my wifi tablet.

use g pad as a phone?

Is it possible to make and receive calls ?i tried installing google dialer but it does not work?
Maybe with root we can? I dunno if the hardware will allow it.
GSM Voice and Data capabilities are disabled in the radio firmware. Teh device may not even have an amplifier for GSM. Even with root we wont be able to change that unless someone knows a lot about Qualcomm radio stuff and can add/modify the proper settings in QXDM/QPST . This is VERY unlikely.
Fongo works, so does csipsimple with a sip voip account.
I expect Google Hangouts will be fine too.
Same **** as the Nexus 7. What a scummy move.
Surely works but only on wifi (won't work on 4G LTE). Tried using it with my Ooma mobile app to place & receive calls without any technical issues.
I know it's not the answer to the question but, Hangouts works fine on LTE.
What about SMS?
I tried using Pad X to receive SMSs from my bank. I inserted a SIM card into it, installed Google Messenger SMS app and tried to get any SMS. I didn't see any notifications, but when I opened the Google Messenger once, I briefly saw the SMS appear in the program, but it disappeared quickly and again I saw an empty list of messages. Do you know if there is some service in this firmware that deletes any incoming SMS?
SMS works
