Ginger restore - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now that the GPS fix has come into play, I have been thinking of going into 2.3land again. My question is: I do not want to lose my saved game data [esp black pegasus] by upgrading to ginger. Other than TB, how can I backup and restore apps and data without screwing up the rom?

only restore what green in tb otherwise you are asking for trouble. Do a nan back up first tho.

that's the problem. You can still install them on a 2.3 rom but the data saved from 2.2 isnt compatable and bugs it up...........
I think?

I've never experienced this with any of my apps. For example Angrybirds. For most /data/app it should be fine. Just becareful of anything that is system related (ie dialer, settings, etc).

yah listen to binary

All gameloft games save your data to the internal sd card, that way if you upgrade all you need to do is install the game again. However, it will tell you to download data, it is only 3 mb. But all your data will stay the same.

So dont restore as a batch, take the time to pick em off my sd individually and I wont have the same problems?

Use filter.

I went to 2.3.4 and restored batch app+data,no problem. I only use it to restore my games though. Black pegasus and a few others. What I always do is download the newest titanium off the market before any restores/backups. I have never had any problems with apps+data doing it this way

[Q] Captivate to SG2 apps?

Can I just install apps+data through TitaniumBackup that I had on my Captivate and install them on the GS2?
I did. Rooted then restored apps with data. Stay away from system restore.

I did the same exact thing. Worked great.
i used the new phone as an excuse to reinstall all apps from scratch. its hear its good to install fresh once in a while.

[Q] quick question

Before i install a new ROM, if I factory data reset or wipe data and cache n everything from the recovery screen, will I still have Titanium Backup so i can restore my apps?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA App
Nope, but if you bought it from the market you can redownload it without having to pay again. Just keep in mind doing a full wipe can wipe your backup folder too. Best to sync it to dropbox through titanium backup or back it up to a pc or external sdcard.

Is that the right thing to do if your going from 1 rom to another? I just don't want old files and data taking up memory/space
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA App
Yes its the right thing to do its what everyone that uses it does

cool thanks, I moved the backup folder to my external sd, that fixes that right? Now i can just wipe everything rite? Btw after I'm done and restoring in TiBu can i goto batch, restore all apps + system data? Or will the system data mess with the custom rom?

As long as you don't wipe external card you'll be ok. I'd remove it from the card just to be sure. Don't want to risk losing everything.
Usually you won't restore system data. The only time you'd do that is if you're reflashing the exact same rom. You'll only want to batch restore all apps and data.
Should be all good to go.

Titanium was great
Upon restoring you have to choose to install each app during the process but that's fine, a lot faster than installing from Market ^^
Titanium backup, choose backup my apps ,and then "tick" app only from menu and press GO!!

But I will try out TWR first. I can see ppl saying it is very much faster.

Batch App installer

I would be surprised if this wasn't already created but has anyone thought of a App that would work with google plays application list to install multiple apps at once? I think this would be Genius especially for those that fresh install a ROM every 3-4 updates. I find myself spending about an hour just installing all of my applications again.
I use titanium backup for that
Sent from my Samsung-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Does it backup the data to the SD card? Because if you wipe everything on the phone, essentilay the app data from titanium would get removed as well and then your screwed again ahhaa

I prefer ROM Toolbox(i use paid pro version) over Titanium Backup.

[Q] force closes everywhere

I have been having a problem for about the past month or two. i have tried hellybean, cm10 aokp all of these after aabout 2 weeks will start force closing evertyhing ive tried odin wiping my internal sd card format/system format/boot all of this yet im still getting force closes like android.process.gmail android.process.acore android.process.system apex launcher has stopped talk has stopped. all of this and i cant figure out the problem i do a clean wipe every time
Are you using Titanium Backup to restore apps & data? If you are, do NOT restore system data (especially if you're hopping from one rom to another) and just restore your apps only without the data (or simply download the apps again). See if that makes a difference.
Yeah ik. I've tried that before but I don't do that anymore. When I first started doing that EVERYTHING fierce closed but I've stopped that now

Odin to stock, flash back and see if it still persists.
