Stay with the 2. Versions or else you can't use the sense roms.

Like Moh_Jay said, stick with 2.5.x. There aren't really any advantages to upgrading to 3.0 or higher on the Liberty.

If you have amons recovery you need to sign the zip for it to work.
You can also use rom manager from the market.

I had flashed my galaxy 5 i5500 to CyanogenMod 7.1 (aka 2.3.5) but i need to downgrade it to 2.2 or 2.1.
I had been read some guide saying that need to flash the downgrade.tar file using odin. i already done it but my phone reboot automatically and keep repeating the welcome page(as shown)

You need to format data, system, cache, and dalvik cache before downgrading. Use odin to get you in clockwork and do the above then reboot you do have a back up of your phone just in case dont you..
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
Maybe this thread can help? :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150159
Also, i had the same issue with odin getting stuck and it was because my drivers were 'stuck'. I had to un-install kies, install kies, reboot computer and then re-start odin. If you try that, be sure to keep your phone in download mode.
hope this helps

frndz when i tryed to install CM7 on my xperia with CWM its will show this error my neo was rooted and bootloader unlocked can you plz trouble shoot this..? []
First install Stock GB ROM(either with flashtool or with SEUS)
Then install FXP kernel inside the zip file.
Boot into CWM recovery wipe everything EXCEPT system(and sdcard ofcourse)!
If you wipe system you will get that error again!
Install the zip and you re ready!
In simple words FXP ROM checks your build.prop. If you don't have the build.prop it wants(stocl or FXP) then it won't flash the ROM!
There is also an another way by editind the script inside the zip but I don't know what you have to edit! :/

Open the above archive, then open your zip file that you are installing and drag and drop the build.prop to system folder to replace the original file.
Similarly drop the updater script in META-INF\com\google\android and replace it.
Hit THANKS if it helps you.
I posted a while back how i tried to update my phone but the update failed hence getting stuck at recovery and that i wanted a way to recover my files. I got zero replies.
Hoping things will be different this time.
I heard that i could recover my files by installing a custom recovery which would allow me to do so. If that is correct then could someome please post a link to that custom recovery. Or attach it if you have it.
Any point in the right direction as to how i could recover my files would be so greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

regards
pint
Try xz dual recovery it worked for me,make sure you are rooted either via supersu or superuser
-Root yours using any method (.108 is kinda easy to root, for me I use kingroot.net).
-Install Nut's Dual Recovery using appropriate one from nut.xperia-files.com (don't forget to enable and authorize incoming USB connection on your phone and allow root access).
-As soon as it finished installing, it should boot into TWRP (if no error occurred, sometimes using old version of nut recovery installer works when not installing)
-Flash Latest SuperSU zip (If you want SuperSU instead of Kingroot, Kingoroot, etc.).
Good Luck.
