I'm not to sure but I believe many people say never to ask for an ETA on XDA (hey that rhymes.. kinda) the update will be available when it is available and information will be announced as quickly as possible.
I'm sure that if someone has information, it will hit these forums fairly quickly as you are not the only person who is eager, we all are.

I wouldn't get too excited for it. Even if it does come soon, it's 2.3.3, which still isn't optimized for dual-core processors. Our Atrixes (Atrices?) won't become OMG EPIC PWNSOME until 2.3.4.
But yeah, hopefully it'll see a June/July release. I mean, with a beta out there it can't be too long.

At least Motorola is MUCH better with getting out updates than either Samsung or Sony. HTC is really the only manufacturer that gets updates out faster than Motorola.

Yeah but with samsung you dont really need updates from them to get bugs fixed, (The community had the gps fixed on their own with different patches etc). improvements and just new stuff. the dev Community could do that because the bootloaders arent encrypted by the C.I.A I even had CM7 and other roms on my xperia x10a, but ill agree they do get stuff out there fairly quickly because we rely on them heavily, but in the end all this is because im just bootloader mad lol

I don't get it. Why does HTC make gingerbread available for some phones so quick and others (THUNDERBOLT) have to wait so dang long to get the official release? Are each of their phones that different and that complex that making a stable and bugfree version takes that much effort? It hurts to know HTC, Google, and Verizon can't get their act together faster. I still love all three companies though...yes i actually love google and verizon.
Anybody else have a rant to want to put down concerning the thunderbolt or gingerbread?

Yes...Thunderbolt in particular seems to be a beast of a different color.
Although, I'm positive that isn't the entire reason they roll out slowly. OTAs that roll out must be majorly checked from every angle since one minor problem could force them to replace thousands of devices for free (since they are forced) not to mention the damage to their reputation, support, etc. Add on the stipulations carriers have and their customizations and time really adds up.
Well usually verizon takes forever to approved builds to.make sire they don't have bugs, EVO got a high update and they have to release another shortly after and the cost money, the dinc 2 got theirs cause it got an European brother and it had more time to be refine , and the thunderbolt who knows I just one sense 2.1 and no buggy update, as long as we get ice cream update in timely manner I'm good or if we get a nexus phone with LTE I'm swicthcing for sure

Well, I for one would like to see a good leak or formal release of GB because the current leak sucks. Yeah, some devs have made some great headway in making it usable, but starting from a base that functions properly would bring a very novel thing to the Tbolt.... stability!

Google really has nothing to do with this. They have already put out 2.3. It's now up to HTC to Sense it up and get the build to Verizon, and then up to Verizon to bloat the crap out of it, and then check for bugs.

Can't compare wimax to lte. Wimax is basically just wifi on steroids and uses the same implimentation as normal wifi with a few modifications. LTE however is a whole new protocol that's totally different than anything previously on a verizon phone.

Yeah I'm getting pissed that they haven't released 2.3 for the tbolt yet. Also, apparently HTC isn't going to release the new Sense (3.0?) for any of their phones that are already out! wtf?! So i'm considering rooting my phone. ive heard you can get gingerbread and the new sense by doing so, however ive never rooted before. Any chance someone could clue me in if there are solid working versions of 2.3 and the new sense out there? is the rooting worth the risk? should i just wait untill the tbolt officially gets 2.3 to root for the new sense? any insight would be great!

As it is, I don't think there has been anything new. I believe Motorola has pretty much abandoned the X2. Not even a year old and already, they've orphaned it. Typical.

Unfortunately, Motorola is a bit overzealous with their phones (as they've always been, IMHO); they released 16 android devices for 2011 (as noted here And even with that they'd announced devices for 2012, with the new focus on 4G and HD screens, etc.
I wish I could say I'm surprised, but big company, big aspirations, they're gonna follow the money. I just wish that since they obviously are going to toss it aside, they could just give us everything. Just say **** it, we're not going to do any more go to town on it guys.

That's why I've sent an email to everyone lines in the Unlock Bootloader thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427802). It was pretty lengthy too. It even went to the CEO of Motorola Mobility. Not sure if that will get their attention, but if enough of us do it, then it could make a difference.
Has ANY Motorola devices (other than tablets) received an official ICS update? If not, Im not too worried. Once they start pushing out updates for ICS and time continues to go by without an update for us, I will start to worry. As far as an official 2.3.5 update goes, I dont care if we get that officially or not. Its not that big of an update.

The leaked one was not the official as stated before. I'm wondering were it it since we got the last 2 updates every 2 months.

I think it was supposed to be "first quarter" which I guess is in June now.

I'm getting really sick of this ****. It's been 6 months since ICS came out, and very, very few phones have ICS. It's embarrasing and starting to make me reconsider Android. I'm happy rooted and ROMed, but you shouldn't need to hack your phone to get updates.

If you want incessant updates that constantly disables jailbreak you're more than welcome to hit up ios.
I don't really see what the problem is other just impatience. People who don't do custom roms still have a perfectly useable phone on GB, and those who can't wait have a lot of extra options.

Another thing I hate--false dichotomies. If I want updates iOS, if I want a bigger screen and openness, Android.
BS. It's possible to have both. If, for example, HTC had stuck to their hero device model and ONLY released a One X, S, and V, do you think updates would be difficult? Nope. It'd be easy.
Samsung? Well, updates would be easy too if they release a GSM GS3, a CDMA/LTE GS3 and a GSM/LTE GS3, but I'd guess by December we'll have the Galaxy S3 Skyrocket HD Supreme LTE 5G Maxxx.
Release fewer, better models. Easier software updates. Not hard. Not iOS.

I only half disagree with this. If it were up to HTC/Samsung/Google/etc. all the devices, more than likely, would be kept up to date, and in a somewhat timely fashion.
Look at the Verizon GNex. Do you think Google and Samsung don't have a working build of 4.0.4 on it? Sure they do. Verizon just isn't happy with it, for whatever reason. Same thing applies to 90% of phones in the US.
The international, unlocked versions of phones get the newer updates faster than their US counterparts, and the cell companies have a huge impact on that.
I'm not saying manufacturers and Google don't deserve some of the blame, because they do; they're pretty lazy and complacent in a way that Apple would never be. But I think Verizon is more at fault than any other party, and I'd like to see the cell companies get more heat than Google over this stuff lately.

I don't care about whether or not stock phones can get updates or not. The only point I'll start getting annoyed is when it starts becoming difficult to even ROM the phone. In our case, we don't have kernel source. In my world, that's the only real big issue with fragmentation: With so many different hardware configurations out and more and more proprietary software sprouting up (the plethora grows!), getting someone to create a stable ROM and maintain it becomes ever harder.
All this choice is good for people with different things in mind and even though ICS is the business, Gingerbread (IMO) is still pretty sweet. Stock Gingerbread, that is. But boy, now we're having a hard time getting kernels made, the number of devices we have are definitely starting to outpace the number of developers with the time on their hands, etc.
Really you guys don't see a problem with it taking so long to get updates? I know I do. So maybe we will have an update in 6-8 weeks and kernel source in 8-10 that's great. I often wonder what HTC does all day. Must be a pretty laid back place to work.

This is the first word from HTC regarding the update. In reality, all the other "announcements" were unconfirmed rumors.

only 10 weeks...this puts how short the summer is into perspective. i think ill sit back and try to stop obsessively checking the forums for nebulous ics updates and enjoy the summer. hell we worry more about it then some devs do
The problem is, is that if the upgrade is slated to hit at the end of July, it'll be August possibly before we get kernel source since it usually takes like two weeks for source to release.
We don't get updates because of device/carrier fragmentation. Each level of choice is an opportunity for the manufacturer or carriert to differentiate their product or service. This is necessary to be competitive with its industry rivals and to continue to grow sales, thus making shareholders happy. It becomes difficult to allocate resources to support such a wide range of hardware apps and carrier specific needs, so the choice has to be made, which device to support. Then it becomes a question as to, support for which user base will benefit the company most. But this always come behind pushing the newest product, as support is an expense which only produces goodwill. That being said they almost always promise that whatever their selling will be fully supported and updated expeditiously.
So, I'm sure it's not only me wondering this... Are we getting this thing ever?
most likely, lots of "feature updates" and motorola is 'part of' google now. gotta think they will support their flagship phone of 2012
Of course, even if we are going to get it we won't get it for at least another year, maybe year and a half.
I hope that with the release of the pdk the thing will go better, but i don't belive that we will get it soon

No, razr is the best phone I could have compare to my other Android devices, and I very happy with my razr.
The big disappointed I got, came from Motorola's developers and service.
And, no... Ios is bad, has no many options,the system designed for little kids/not intelligent people/lazy hoes/people who can't handle complicated os and etc.
I would never buy such low level device like iphone or ipad..
Iphone is like a console, like xbox or ps3.
And android is like pc.

I'm assuming RAZR will get it, it is still one of the most up to date phones motorola have on offer.
Based on the ICS release I'd guess we get it rolling out about the same time the Nexus devices get Kola Kubes.
Hopefully at the same time motorola initially promise to keep the bootloader locked then decide to change their mind, completely ignore the promise and do the opposite.
Honestly, I think by the time we get it we'll all be ready to upgrade to a new phone if we haven't already. I'm gonna say Q2 2013...

I don't really have much faith in Motorola updating our devices anytime soon. They're failing to meet their own release schedules for ICS so I don't see how they will have JB out anytime soon.
I was looking for a decent tablet and hoping to get a Prime but the Nexus 7 hits the price point perfectly so I ordered a 16gb one. Hopefully there isn't an issue with Google's release/shipping date so I can enjoy JB faster.
Considering how long it took them to push ICS I seriously doubt we will ever get and official Jelly Bean OTA update. Knowing Verizon they are probably going to EOL the RAZR/MAXX not long after the RAZR HD gets released. Constantly releasing new phones brings them more money... not supporting phones they have out already. The devs on the other hand will probably have one out soon.

They never promised they'd release it within 6 weeks, they promised that they'd release a list of devices that would get ICS. The Q2 release date was the only promise they ever made on it, and they've held to that for Verizon. On GSM, I'm not surprised they've pushed it back, because apparently there are some issues in this OTA and I'm sure they want to fix them up a bit, and then they'll push that update out as the first release for GSM users and a minor update for Verizon users. It probably won't that GSM users are waiting until the end of Q3 for ICS, it will probably be pretty soon.

So yes I have little faith in Motorola. If they had stated that ICS would be released for the RAZR in mid-2012 from the beginning I wouldn't complain. But that isn't what they promised.

If you READ what that infamous tweet said, they promised to release DEVICES for ICS. This means devices that meet the hardware requirements for ICS. They in no WAY promised ICS in 6 weeks and there is no way you can twist those tweets to mean that.
Waiting for ICS was horrible. I literally checked for updates every day before I threw in my towel and flashed the LATAM ICS ROM (and loving it).
If the RAZR isn't going to get the support it deserves, would you guys contemplate say, selling your device and getting an HTC One X/Galaxy SIII?
I mean, our devices are still new and can fetch a hefty sum...

If there is a z5v I bet the specs will be near identical to what the z4v was oing to be but with an upgraded camera.

I will say, that gave me a pretty good chuckle.
This is probably a stupid question but any guesses what Sony and or Verizon are going to do with all the Z4v's that were built? It would be nice if they offered us fans some sort or special buy. It's not like any other carrier is going to sell them right?
VZW makes so much off of gouging their customers they (VZW) just trashes them, we, the consumer, will pay for them in the end.
They call this kind of scam "progress" and "necessary".
I may just stick to the nexus devices after putting up with all of this

Hit or miss but there is a soak test for the Pure going out right now that is, hopefully, Marshmallow.
