the 3D effect on the Optimus is depth rather than "coming out of the screen", this is better for those who get headaches apparently, but that's down to personal preference. I think the Optimus looks nicer, but again, it's down to personal preference

Is that tape on the 3D? Doesn't everyone know the phone is on sprint already?
I like the EVOs looks better but I do like the gallery feature better on the Optimus. It's pretty cool. I think HTC should've made it more like that in Sense 3.0

there's no 3D menu at all on the EVO which I think is an oversight, it's only a little thing but it gives the phone a little "wow" factor. It also makes me think HTC won't be pushing for 3D content from 3rd parties as much as LG will (the LG has a 3D menu for all their 3D stuff [gallery, games, youtube, camera etc])

I have the optimus 3D and would like to test out the evo 3D cause i want to give a 3D phone as a gift to my father and the optimus 3D launch date is still not clear. So the evo 3D would be a great alternative. I actually like the 3D space(3D gallery) on the optimus. Adds another level of wow factor whenever i use it when im on a public place. And makes organizing 3D content very easy...Wish to see it get ported..

released 8th July in UK, no sign of Evo 3D over here though. The Optimus 3D may be importable?
Not sure how the Evo works (I've asked HTC but no reply) but the Optimus can view JPS taken by itself as well as MPO (the Evo's 3D format of choice) so photos will be interchangeable at least in 1 direction
so if everyone is complaining about how awful the 3d effect is on the evo is.. what will they say about the LG ..hmmm

plenty of reviews around as well as 3D videos and 3D photos taken with the phone, take a look. No-one's really slagged it off like they have the Evo yet. Still waiting for UK/Euro news on the Evo 3D, HTC don't seem to like giving anything away so I haven't even seen the phone in the flesh over here.

Plenty of people already expressed the goodness of 3D on the optimus. Aaron from phonedog said the 3D on optimus is better than the evo. I have one and as you can see im very impressed on the depth on the 3D... but the release date for the optimus3D has been pushed 3x now and im a bit furious i want a 3D phone now so that my gf and my father(in arizona) can enjoy 3D goodness too. Wish the evo 3D supports mpo files cause ill be sending pics from my optimus to my father there in the US.

Yeah, I can imagine LG getting more content from publishers, they already have an LG store on the phone and I can imagine exclusive 3D films/trailers etc coming very soon. I don't think HTC will push companies/publishers for that.
Oh, and there's no first from HTC with this, the Optimus is already released to the public in Korea, making that the worlds 1st consumer 3D phone. It may be the 1st in the US, but that's only a very small percentage of the world so can't really be classed as a "1st"
Optimus already had partneship with youtube 3D, gameloft, some AR 3D technology coming to it and other devs to develop for optimus 3d. I haven't really heard anything concrete from htc regarding their future plans for the evo 3D other than releasing a 3D sdk... hope both companies will continue to support these devices, cause after using an optimus 3D im in love with it now and looking forward to see more applications that will take advantage of the 3D. I know 3D is not that important but it is at least very fun to use
can htc evo 3d run this 3d games like lg optimus 3d? nova 3d, asphalt 3d etc?

There was a discussion about who's first blah blah over on AC. Someone came in and said Japan has had 3D phones since December. So LG nor HTC can say they're first.
what do you think about gpu's of this phones ? PowerVR SGX540 or adreno 220 ?
seems Amazon.co.uk stating release date for Optimus 3D on 21st of July, nothing yet about EVO 3d

I know I'm probably being overly negative, but why does it seem like HTC has completely dropped the ball with the 3D features on our device?? An app like this would be awesome. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how you would get it to work with the Evo 3D unless LG open sourced their code. The only other thing I can think of is if something like chainfire added 3D support for the Evo 3D.

Why would HTC be the one to 'continue development'?
HTC has already satisfied the expectations of the EVO3D project on their end.
The function of the 3D technology, as far as HTC's concerned, was to "Sell a ****-ton of cellphones."
They've accomplished their goal. They've opened htcdev, and released the code for developers who want to mess around with programming 3D applications.
I don't see HTC spending too much more time 'pushing the envelope' in 3D development for this phone. They've done their job, this project was a success, and they have way too many other handsets coming out all the time.
Just my 2 cents.

HTC dropped the ball because it was really just a gimmick to begin with...the real beauty of the device was the specs on it...not the 3D functionality imo...and even then, i really wish Qualcomm would step up the game with CPU architecture...Samsung's Exynos is going to eat us Evo3d users alive :[

Nope. The framework is different for the 3D on the Evo and the LG. You would have to rewrite the thing with HTC's framework to make it work.
Open any game up in the app and it will try to split the foreground and background and recombine both in 3D
In my experience converting anything to a format it was never created in has had little to no added effect. We'll see though if this is any different.
On another note, nice to see where all of LG's development was during the G2X fiasco.
What's your opinion guys? Anyone with similar thinking?

Sense 3.6 not 4.0 on the sensation BTW. This confirmed by Jeff Gordon in a recent interview, who is in charge of global communications for HTC...also the guy is around this site too and posts some.
If 3D is pointless to you and you want to knock the device then why get it in the first place.

That's a question for you to answer yourself. We can't tell you whether or not you like your phone. Me? I like this phone. It doesn't have the same impact as the OG Evo did on me (that being my first ever decent phone) but it's still a pretty solid phone. Been able to run ICS on it since I got it after the New Year. Everything in this post, except for the timeframe of ICS updates, is so untrue. Just saying.
I was drawn to EVO 3d becouse of its design, like it more than Sensation. Having 1gb of rom, opposite to Sensations 768mb, was a one more reason to have it. Not to mention that it should be HTC's flag ship. When all started heading down hill, seed of doubt was planted. Wanted to hear other people opinions.

Sprint has some catching up to do service wise. If i was in the market now for a new phone and carrier, i would look elsewhere. Im not hating sprint or evo. Dont take it that way. The 1gb of RAM compared to the sensations 768Mb did it for me. Usually its not a huge deal...but c'mon we're talking about two sense phones here lol.
I personally do like the 3D feature of the device two, pretty much to the point so far where I might only purchase another phone if it had 3D (which is unlikely since im a minority)

This.
Go where there is a more robust developing community. Not bashing anybody who develops on this phone since they made my EVO 3D a beast, but I realized that huge International phones like the Sensation and GSII are miles ahead in getting things done.
Guys, why did some of you buy the Evo 3D first hand at all - if not of for the 3D?
THAT should've been the main reason - best 3D compared to any other phone, and good overall performance for everything else (save the battery ). I was "back then" really drawn to the Sensation, but it had NO 3D. I'd have almost bought the LG, but luckily was saved by HTC
I never expected it to catch on, because the people apparently see 3D only as a gimmick (sic!), and a low priority one as that..."3D? Uh, yeah, cool... but does it play Angry Birds? Show me!"...
So, lessons learned: Next time buy the phone you need... I hope my 3D stays with me a long time.
Cheers

Yea looking at the video and where they show the EVO 4G LTE 3D (how horrid a name that'd be) prototype they show a bunch of other prototypes that weren't final next to it also. one even looked like the OG EVO.
Plus there is a reason 3D looks a bit better on the Optimus 3d (it does I promise) and that's because of the lower resolution. So I don't know how well a 720p stereoscopic display would come out.
I think ill just wait for the "EVO 4G 3D HD skyrocket SIII Maxx" to come out for my next device
I believe it would be smart for sprint to release 2 variations, a 3D one and the current one. The current 3D users could keep their 3D feature while having an even better phone or for the ppl tht don't want 3D, they could still get this badass phone! Sprint/HTC would be making more money and everyone who wants one of the variations would be happy tht there is the option....
Seems like a WIN WIN situation to me....

If it really was coming, they would absolutely not come out and say that right now. They want this new phone to be the biggest and must hyped thing on the market. Sadly, no. 3D is not a very good feature - You have to be looking at it completely straight and strain your eyes just to see the 3D effect. It's not silky smooth like a moving hologram.
If you buy this phone solely for 3D, you'll end up being VERY disappointed. That said, everything else about this phone is great except for the fact that you can get the upcoming Evo LTE for $200 on a new contract. The Evo LTE looks like an insane beast of a phone. Insane beast.
Let me tell you a little story.
Actually, long story short, i hated my evo 3D, but the day i installed the official leaked ICS ROM things have changed. This phone is a complete BOMB, fast as hell, smooth as hell, no bugs, awesome 3d... man there is a day and night difference between gingerbread and ics and if you have the courage of installing a custom rom, this phone is hands down AMAZING and the best option! Heck, even the screen looks brighter on ics... i have fallen in love with my evo 3d... it's a joy to use it rather than a slow piece of **** it was with gingerbread... obviously the 3d isnt there in the ui, because if it was the battery would finish in half an hour!
Guess the story turned out to be pretty long but owell

Been on the HTC bandwagon since the 4G. The 3D isnt a huge jump as the 4G was when it came out but certainly this is the first phone I can keep longer than 2 years if I needed to. ICS brings out its potential greatly and I've even fallen back in love with the new Sense 4.0.
Also, if you like, you always run ASOP if you hate Sense. But its funny when you browse other phone's threads and see people wishing to have Sense on their Sammy devices. Makes you proud.

Ok, but why not root it and delete bloatware? And install different launcher if you don't like sense?

Lol excuse me, im far from a troll. Why would the guy just want opinions from people who like the phone. I owned the phone and I didnt like it and i told him why. Thats exactly what he was looking for the good and the bad. It has high res screen. Camera sucks on it, but it does do 3d pics and videos. Its fast but not the fastest and slowed down a lot bc of sense. Sense looks great but is a little too much for my taste. If your trying to get wii controllers connected its impossible with sense roms. Typing on it isnt as fast and responsive as it should be. Running miui on it makes you realize how fast the phone should be. But when i had the phone 3d wasnt working on aosp/miui roms so if u wanted a fast rom you lose features. I like the looks of the evo3d. I had both the black and white evo3d and more people are impressed with my white e4gt. Its bulky and heavy compared to my e4gt. Honestly the only thing i miss is the higher res screen and sometimes the 3d.

Ignore the 3D feature unless you think you will use it, as the quality is not very good when taking the 3D yourself due to it only being 2MP :-(
The rest of the spec is good, and with it (hopefully) getting ICS soon, improvements in the pretty bad Sense implementation we have now will be much improved
1GB RAM on the phone really helps out and was one of the main reason for me getting this over my O2X.
It's good for the money... but other phones now like the new HTC X are WAY ahead.
Looks like Sprint didn't want a 3D phone for their One X variant and don't have any plans for one in the pipeline based on customer feed back

I figured this would happen. It's probably best since HTC uses the 3D as an excuse NOT to update the phone in line with their releases... I would've really liked to have another 3D phone, but if we don't get one, I'll be alright. I'll miss it, though.
They should have rejected HTC's hideous design for the 4G LTE *shudder*

No worries, 3D was just a gimmick anyway.

It wasn't a gimmick, it will be back. Just have to wait for better screens and cameras.

Sure it may have been a gimmick but to me, so is LTE. I've had the og EVO since launch and only recently picked up the 3d and have never used Wimax cuz it never even came close to.my area. LTE won't either and just like the "promised" Wimax how long will it really take?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Now, I have no intentions of getting the LTE but if I did I would say kudos for the lack of 3d....totally worthless (for me at least....I know some of you like it).
I liked the 3D portion as a novelty, but hated how it made getting working cameras such a pita.
I would like to have the 4g LTE but I'm with the other guy who said It's a crock, I'm on my 2nd WiMAX phone and have never used it beyond a trip to DC ..I highly doubt LTE will be in my area anytime soon. I'll pass on this years evo

**** you, Sprint.
Oh well, it sucks being just about the only person who loves the 3D features.

I really do think it is a crock man. I hope I'm proved wrong but judging on the past with Wimax I guess we will have to wait and see.

I enjoy the 3d as well at times, but its killer on my eyes.

It's kind of cool to show to people who've never seen it, but beyond that, I've tired of it. I wouldn't buy a phone based on its 3D capabilities (not why I bought this one either). I just don't think 3D on a phone is a killer feature.
Just wait until an iPhone comes out with 3D. I actually hope one does. Then it will force other phones to have it. As much as I hate Apple, they do have a place in the market. If they do something that Android doesn't have, like a NEW 3D phone, other manufacturers will almost be forced to do it.

Thank goodness. The last thing we needed was another fail 3D device. Kudos, Sprint!
I've used 3dcamera about 10 times.
It's just not worth it when 98% of my contacts can't view 3d. They can't send me 3d. Share a 3d image or vid on facebook no one can view it.
I was hoping for a 3d landscape GUI (sense) that didn't happen.
Only worth it for 3d games, and even then its not all that great.
I get WiMAX everywhere except for out in suburbia, so the LTE rollout when it happends here will be a great addition.

Meh I like the 3D feature it's grown on me. It's just something cool to have around to show off

I've said this before but I'll go ahead and say it again.
If Apple drops an iphone with 3D it will likely be a huge success. The main reason is because the people at Apple are smart/savvy and they will release enough 3D content to make it a real feature. The support will be there, apps, games, videos..it will prolly be loaded. The HTC/Android 3D is a complete and total joke..it was forgot about as soon as it shipped.
People will hate and say all the normal stuff they say about the iphone, but if it has more content, more stuff that makes you go "wow, that's cool" then it will by far and away smash the Evo 3D.
3D isn't going away. There will be 3D phones in the future.
Just because Sprint, who is notorious for making terrible business decisions, passed on a 3D phone, it doesn't mean the technology is dead.
I personally only take 3D pictures and videos. I will only buy 3D phones from this point forward. Buying a 2D phone at this point is similar to buying an SD TV.
When I buy the Avengers bluray, it Erik be the 3D version. When I but a new TV, it will have 3D. And when I buy a new phone, it will have 3D. If Sprint doesn't want to sell me one, fine by me. I'll just give someone else my money when I buy it and activate it somewhere else.
And hopefully it will be made by a company that actually believes in open source. HTC treats their drivers and source as proprietary and refuses to release it in a timely manner. That's the only reason it was so hard to get the 3D features working on custom ROMs, because HTC refused to release source and drivers for it.
Limited translation
The 3D feature is nice but with limited translation to any other platform, it's stuck in novelty mode. Perhaps once there are more devices and means of viewing the 3D content it will be a big deal.
LTE on the other hand not so novelty, better penetration into structures is desperately needed WiMax is sad in this area. I'm still dragging my feet on a LTE device until it's in my area though, not buying on a promise Sprint doesn't keep those very well and are rather slow when they do.
...rant
The Now network as in "Oh NOW you wanna upgrade (firmware, network, etc) after every one else has already AND put new product on the market...end rant.

You're probably right about iPhone and 3D and content but, iPhone would benefit far more from a 4G variant and larger screen, that would quiet us Android users down a notch and really excite iPhone fans...it might even convert a few folks. 3D would just be cute fad.
