[Q] need warranty, what to do? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
my galaxy s2 is acting weird if i plugin the power from AC charger my phone gets freaking hot and even gives a plastic melting scent... also the battery takes like 24 hours to load to 99% (with the device turned OFF).. so i think i zhould check my warranty
Now the thing is, i flashed it with lite'ning rom (which claims to not give the yellow triangle, however i have got it)
i bought a usb jig and receiving it monday... the question now is: how do i get the phone to stock rom so samsung would think it had never been rooted or flashed?
Many thanks!
Greets,
Marco

One if its branded restore branded firmware two if not branded restore a stock older Samsung rom . Three remove any apps that use root .
You may need to check on boot remove yellow warning triangle and set custom rom counter to zero using recovery jig .

Dev section has posts on warning triangle stock roms and usb jig .

[Q] phone brick? appears to be dead after flash crash, nothing on display, no usb

heya all!
i just got my GT-I9100 today; it was bought from A1 (part of vodafone) austria, but it does not have a simlock, they usually "lag behind" with those and business customers seem to be able to get some of the first models that do not have any lock yet.
but thats not the issue; i fiddled around with a few things, namely: root it with that superoneclick thingie, install rom manager, (unsuccessfully) try to flash clockworkmod recovery with it, ..
and then i realized that it does not actually replace the "android system recovery 3e" at all, for some reason. actually i seemed to have both the 2e and the 3e version available SOMEwhere, when i did an "adb reboot recovery" i got into the 3e version, with some key combo i managed to get into 2e (i think it was vol-down + power)
in any case, after searching forums for a while i found info that people have been installing "darky's 9.2 resurrection" in this case because it kind of completely wipes everything and gives a clean base to start with.
so i tried that, and i think it was a bad idea to actually re-partition with odin with the included PIT file. in any case, the flashing process completely halted right after it started; after many minutes i unplugged the phone, odin immediately gave me a red FAIL label, and since the phone didn't react anymore i power cycled it via its battery. i guess that was the second mistake
now i'm stuck in a state of complete darkness. the appearently common issue of "black screen after logo" is something different, i don't get ANY reaction from the phone WHATSOEVER. regardless of what keys i press in what combinations etc, it acts as if the battery was completely empty (which it definitely is not). USB does not do anything either.
i also noticed that the phone got unusually warm in the area of the camera, not like HOT, but warmer than i was able to get it by just toying around with it the hour before. i mean, if i try to turn it on and stuff, so it looks to me as if it is doing something, but it cannot even initialize the display or usb.
i ordered some components and will try this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551 even tho it explicitly states that it won't help against all-blackness, just in case.
anyone got any ideas of what i could still do? or is trying to get a replacement from the carrier my only option?
just for additional info, i also have 2 HTC desires, and never managed to brick them to death, i have some clues about adb and the sdk in general, i'm not completely clueless when it comes to android, but since i don't even get any kind of touchable interface (usb wise) i'm out of ideas...
thanks & regards
hi mate darkys rom is for the samsung galaxy s not the gaxy s 2 and clockwork mod wont work either

hmn i kind of wasn't sure about darkys rom after my attempts anymore
in the beginning i thought the galaxy s2 was actually called i9000, until i opened it once again and say that it states 9100
but in any case - is there anything i can do, software wise?

Fake /wrong rom they may reject it under warranty .

well thats the problem, i can't flash anything. i have no way of going into download mode, or any other mode, its just "dead".
Try to use the "magical cable", i think this cable work also on SG2 and not only the SG1 ... There is a lot sellers on ebay.
Sorry did i not mention the download mode recovery jig .
If it boots via the recovery jig to download mode you may be able to fix or at least fix enough to claim warranty .

yep i guess i will get the components on monday (and i need to borrow a soldering iron
i already got info from the carrier that they will replace it, i just hope they won't look at it too much
can tyou tell us if tyou succeded ? I'm in the exact same situation.

heys, i got a replacement from the carrier for free, and i'm not gonna brick it just to retest *g*
i ordered components for the usb rig and they already arrived, but i have not yet found time to test it, partly because i don't really need it - this time i did not make the mistake of flashing a wrong partition table......
regards
additional info: i'm on cognition S2 now. before i went there, i flashed 3-part stock 2.3.4 firmware, and this time, it was the right PIT file *g* so everything worked like a charm.

[Q] Custom ROM flash count?

Hi,
I'm new to Samsung phones (in fact I'll get my SGSII today), but I've been browsing the development forum and in the thread of a rom a guy mentioned that there's a 'custom rom flash count'. Does this mean that the phone counts how many times you flash it and you lose warranty as this count can be checked?
If this is the case, is there a way to reset the count to gain warranty back?
It checks how many time you flash an inofficial firmware from download mode. Yes I think you lose the warranty.
Reset counter: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068522
To reset custom rom count, just buy a JIG dongle on eBay...
http://shop.ebay.fr/?_from=R40&_trk...-All-Categories&_sacat_sel=See-All-Categories
Really easy to use : You switch your SGS2 off, you plug dongle in, it starts your SGS2 to erase custom rom count, it's done !
And it also remove yellow triangle at boot, life is beautiful !
Thank you very much for the help guys
I have a jig but a bad usb port how do i reset with the bad port

Okay thanks i cant access su or private apps but I got this phone off ebay and I need to make sure it was never rooted. The port is bad and samsung is going to fix it since it is still under warranty. I am not sure it was ever rooted. Is there anyway to tell?

[Q] To Root or to not to

I just got a new Galaxy S II, its not been even a week. Should I root my phone ? Since rooting will void my warranty, will un-rooting it get me back my warranty?
One of my friend has rooted and then un-rooted his phone but the yellow exclamation is still there. So scared to root it.

Yes providing you flash a stock rom and remove the warning triangle and custom rom counter .

Thats due to them not reading the instructions .
Why do you want to root no point rooting for no reason .

unrooting will not get rid of yellow triangle. You have to flash back to stock kernel and you can use a usb jig to remove the counter
I read about the USB jig, You add a 301k resistor to pins 4 and 5 of microusb connector, but all it does is puts the phone in download mode. So how do I reset the counter?
And moving towards more common question. Is it advised to root the phone coz i'll be needing just the root access to compile stuff on-the-go (mainly c/c++ files) and ofcourse access to system folder. But I'm scared of voidin the warranty of such a costly phone, coz incase if it does, i'm screwed....
No, pressing VOL DOWN + HOME + PWR (pwr btn for approx 3 secs) puts the phone into donwload mode without resetting the ROM counter.
The USB jig does the same AND resets the ROM counter.
So in simple terms, if you needed to send it away for a warranty repair, you would put the phone into download mode with the USB jig before uploading a stock firmware.
There are other ways of removing the yellow triangle without the jig. The jig is ONLY required for resetting the ROM counter.
Thanks a lot.... building the jig.... Will give out soon....

im kinda stuck here :(

Newer bootloaders were updated so the jig won't reset the counter. You will need the older bootloader to get it to work.
See Intratech's Official i9100 Firmwares thread. Official firmwares there, if you search for the term "bootloader" on the page, you'll find big red text talking about the above. But you can also install the latest stock firmware from this page as well, (which I think Intratech already modified with the old bootloader that works with the jig), so after you flash the latest firmware, you can just use the jig to reset your counter to zero. Official firmwares (direct from Samsung; I think the only difference is Intratech swapped out the bootloader with the older ones that work w/the jig) are in post #2.
And FYI, you don't have to remove the battery to use the jig. You just have to turn the phone off. Once the phone's completely off (vibrates, and the home/back keys go dark), then plug the jig in. The phone will automatically come on.
hey thanks for that mate all sorted now

[Q] Can I get warranty back doing this? (3 questions)

I have a few questions, I'll put them up right away so the impatient may avoid reading my boring story. Beneath the questions are my explanation.
1. It seems to me the flash counter only goes up when I flash non-original firmware. I've flashed twice; once to root, then once again to go back to stock. My counter says 1. Am I correct in assuming this, then?
2. My phone came with astrange and, I think, not widely used firmware called XWKG1. Can I upgrade to ICS using any method, ie. will any ICS-ROM work with my phone?
3. Then I can root, and use Triangleaway to reset flash-counter, right?
And if the answer to question #1 is "yes", I could flash back to stock and have no warranty problems?
Backstory:
I - like many others - downloaded some ROM to get root on my phone. That's all I wanted, just root, no custom UI or anything, so I just downloaded something called CF I think? I'm not very knowledgable about all this, so bear with me.
Now the USB connector and battery is starting to get real weird. In short; my phone thinks USB cable is connected all the time; my phone won't start (says battery is too hot) unless I have a charger plugged in; strange driver issues when trying to connect the phone to a PC, the device is not recognized about 80% of the time; battery drains SUPER quickly. And more probably.
Now this sounds like a hardware issue to me, and should be covered by the warranty no matter if I choose to root my phone or not. But I'm worried Samsung may not share my opinion there. I've flashed back to stock firmware I got with my phone (XWKG1 - I bought my phone from a French company operating in Norway called Pixmania, which gave me this strange version), and the yellow triangle is gone. But flash counter says 1. This could be a problem.
I'd send it back to pixmania straight away. I'm in Norway, I've used pixmania abefore, they're quick and helpful, and I'd guess they'll replace it straight away.
To be honest, I can't remember if stock flashing increases the counter or not. Buy a jig anyway, they're cheap and useful.
Don't think your firmware's that strange, pretty sure I had XWKG1 at some point. Old yes, strange no.
Thanks for the answer. So Pixmania won't just send it to Samsung who will reject it? Have you tried sending rooted phones to them? My phone doesn't have any external damage, but it is currently not covered under Samsungs warranty!
Also, don't know if an USB jig would work since the phone's USB-port is so broken.

Yep, rooted my brother-in-law's SGS last year. He returned it to pixmania because his home button wasn't working, got a replacement within a week. He'd forgotten it was rooted, but pixmania either didn't notice or didn't care.
Assuming you flashed via a USB/PC connection before , it's probably worth the risk to try 2 and 3. Or if you don't want to risk your USB port, try Mobile Odin.

When ICS is released it should upgrade .
But not if you root or put custom firmware Kies may no longer offer the iCS upgrade . You wil have to flash a stock ICS firmware .

Warranty void if custom rom and that included beta ICS warranty void if phone rooted warranty void if custom rom counter above zero .Thats the official Samsung letter to service centres .
