[Q] Unlocked Xperia X10a stuck on 1.6? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a unlocked xperia x10a on 1.6, Ive read a few things that clash with each other about updating. I read about the flash tool that says you have to be at 2.1 to run the tool.
I want to update the android with either a custom build or even the official build it doesn't matter but im on tmobile and I dont want to loose the unlock and I've already read some material that says once its unlocked you cant update.
Is there a way to update to anything other then 1.6 without loosing the unlock or at least being able to re-unlock.
Im sorry if this has already been posted but I need a specific answer before I mess this up Ive been through like 4 phones in the last month lol.

I actually did the same thing. I bought a x10a from eBay, unlocked the phone, updated to 2.1, and put it on T-Mobile. I didn't lose the unlock when I updated.
As far as updating to 2.1 or other software, I used this guide here from agentJBM. I haven't had any problems. Hope this helps.

Will the phone back in "locked" after upgrade?

Hi all,
I have the X10 and i love it in everyway.
I got my X10 from A&T and I unlocked it to use on US T-mobile network. The phone is working flawlessly.
However, my question is will the phone lock back to AT&T network after I do upgrade it to 2.1 (I heard Sony and AT&T will put out a 2.1 together), OR will it remain unlocked for the rest of its lifetime now.
I am new, and appreciate all the help there is.
No one know this?? or Am I in the wrong forum?
Once the phone is unlocked it stays that way, unless you take it back to the A&T and ask them to lock the device again(but not the case here).
the update is released by SE and i think that it will only affect the rooted devices, meaning that if you rooted your device, you will need to unroot it again, when that will be possible again.
If i am wrong someone please correct me.

[Q] [REQ] Orange UK 2.1 update.zip

Heya,
Im just trying to flash my old hero as im selling it, and i need it unlocking first, the unlock site has suggested i use the latest orange ROM.
Does nayone have the orange 2.1 rom in update.zip format?
If you flash back to the stock 1.5 you should get the 2.1 OTA update - there is also a thread with official RUU *it's stickied* however if you want to unlock it for all carriers you'll have to buy a code - I tried to find a free alternative but couldn't. Just went on eBay and got one for about £6.
Yeah i didnt want to use the RUU files as i didnt want to have to redo the recovery stuff.
Yah i have a code.
Never mind, guess ill just have to totally redo it.

I should think so.
All phones that has been unlocked once they stay forever unlocked even if you flash the phone to other Firmware version.

[Q] [NEO V] Debranding

Hello everyone,
A friend of mine has recently bought a Neo V and I wouldn't like to miss the opportunity to tinker a bit with it
The thing is that, as the phone is subsidized, it will come with the operator's personalization, that usually clogs the phone, and I would like to debrand it, and leave her with the latest, stock SE's rom. Furthermore, I've read that there are chances of ICS coming to this phone, if I'm not wrong, from SE, but I think it's quite unlikely that her operator takes the time to release an update. I'm not interested in sim unlocking.
So, if I understood correctly, the only way to get a generic, debranded firmware is to unlock the bootloader, and that will cause the voiding of the warranty, isn't it?
EDIT: I was not interested in rooting to get privileges, basic user is enough for my friend, but it seems that (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650, at least in the Arc) you can get generic roms by rooting, and that wouldn't void your warranty, is that right?
you will void warranty only if you unlock the boot-loader , nothing else will void it
rooting will not void warranty
i want to debrand my neo
what to do?
what is my option?
any tutorial?
forgive me,i'm new to android
if i debrand can i update to
oficial rom later?
I just debranded my Neo with wotanserver. Easy as pie.
One thing I just have to mention is I have Android 2.3.3 and I am aware of 2.3.4 and future 4.0, but when I try software update it just keeps telling me I already have latest software.
I don't have any sim card in phone does that affect it?

maybe this due to the debranding?

[Q] No official SE Neo update from Orange UK?

Hi guys!
Thanks in advance for your help on this matter!
I have been patiently waiting for the official ICS update to arrive for my SE NEO (MT15) since way back when. I know O2 publicly announced they weren't going to bother updating but does anyone know if the Orange UK (now EE) will ever update this phone? Its SI is 1253-7641 if that is any help? Sony are no longer updating their thread of SI numbers so all might be lost in the change from SE to Sony and from Orange to EE!!
I have looked at doing this manually but am worried that as my phone is network locked I might brick it. Also in order to use custom ROMs there seems to be some touch-point modification which worries me too! (I might be wrong on these things).
Thanks again for your time!
1st thing you need to Unlock it from the Network, then unlock the boot loader (optional), & then Install the custom Rom whatever ICS ROM you like or even stock one.

Doesn't network unlock require a testpoint procedure? I know bootloader does. I am very hesitant to fiddle with hardware like that.
If information on whether or not Orange (EE) are going to ever produce an update I might wait until my contract runs out in a couple of months and get a new phone!
If you just want to use stock fw, simply flash it with falshtool, no need for SIM unlock or bootloader unlock.
