Very Low Speaker Volume - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Got my galaxy s2 ... its just awesome phone but whenever I play video / audio, the audio output through speaker is very low even if at MAX level . How do I boost speaker volume while playing video / audio without using headset, because using headset the sound is great...
Please help me to resolve issue ASAP...
Thanx

Are you sure your hand isn't covering the speaker (the speaker is located near the bottom of the phone)?

Thanks for reply...I am very sure about this...

Search there are a number of posts on sound and amplification .

I had the same question, JJ. Although I've installed PowerAmp for playing my music. The audio of video playback still sucks. Any app to enhance the audio of the in-built Movie player of SGS II? The video is great though!
Or can you suggest the best Video Player which has good sound output?

Try volume+ app.. works for me
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

Thanks, iznee, I found Volume+ app......but am a little nervous to use it coz it Warns repeatedly that "this app may cause serious damage to the speakers." So my questions are :
1. Is the Volume+ app safe to use on an SGS II??.......Actual Users' feedback will be appreciated.
2. Is this process (Boosting of Volume output) reversible? Can I put back my phone system in it's original condition if I don't like this app after using it or will it cause permanent changes by clicking on the "Boost" button??

Sorry, there's actually no solution to this problem. Seriously, save your time and buy a phone that works properly, not this hyped up phone with such overlooked bugs

Hello,
first of all you should take him to samsung warranty.
besides that, feel free to use Volume+. It works very well on s2 )
Hope it helps

Phone is hyped up for a reason, it blows everything else, literally out of the water.
My loud speaker is very loud, but then I have had louder (Well only Nokia N95 was louder). My SGS2 is bug free, as are many others.
I would say an SGS2 with quiet speaker is either faulty, or the user likes uncomfortably loud phones, which are few and far between.

If you are root try dsp manager.

AS far as my experience is concerned His lil Bro .. which is S1 got a Better Speaker as compared to the Big Bro ... AS far as the members which are suggesting u to use Volume+, so i wud like to add the Words of The Orginal [DeV]
A Cyanogen Mod 7 or MIUI ROM is HIGHLY recommended. Running this app on a Stock ROM/Kernel may result in it not working, being far too quiet, or getting even quieter. PLEASE don't comment or rate badly if you are on a Stock ROM as this is most likely the problem.
Thanks.
**********
Now if u running Stock Rom it can work ... or to any other .. except which are mentioned... And also i have tried it ...
u might give a chance to this APP .... https://market.android.com/details?id=org.signalos.audioboostgs2&feature=search_result

[Q] Poor sound quality of music through headphones

Hi,
I really hope i dont have a faulty device, but the sound through my headphones (which have been working a day before on my beloved htc hero perfectly) is rather week, 75% maybe of the top volume i could reach on my hero.
I've already tried this in the default music app, and also on Jango Radio (internet music app).
the sound is rather week and also kind of not crystal clear.
is anybody else having this problem? and what can i do about it?
thanks alo!
Yes, actually I have the same thing, and I think a software problem with the music player, it stops when I raise the volume or when i press on the 5.1 ch icon or sometimes on it's own

Working fine!!
I've been using other earphones, but when i tried the one coming with the phone......blast!!!! that's y it was giving me problems!
Super dooper!!
sorry SGS II i underestimated u!!
Definitely the best phone ever up till now
I also noticed really bad quality with the stock headset.. After trying with the headphones from an iPod, the sound quality was much better.. So i guess the problem is really the stock headset.
The stock headphones are pretty bad. I don't get low volume. In fact, I get large amounts of distortion on higher volumes when using headphones. The sound quality is poor, but after tweaking with an EQ (PowerAMP!) it can be some-what salvaged.
There are also options in music player itself (equaliser and effects). For me it is sufficient to improve quality to desired level.
Is audio level & quality same as galaxy S
I am confused between Galaxy sII & xperia neo. I am shifting from Galaxy S, I got the phone refunded from samsung before this I have a wave, that also was refunded by samsung. Its obvious that I am a bit afraid going for samsung this time but still feel they are the best. I got this info from research that Galaxy SII doesn't have a good audio quality in comparison with the legendry Galaxy S. I can't afford to take risk for a 30K phone if it doesn't play good music because carrying an Ipod is virtually impossible if u already have S II in ur pocket. Thats the reason I have narrowed down to galaxy S II or Xperia Neo. But I need to confirm if its not even to galaxy s level in terms of audio quality and volume levels, plz help me folks, I am waiting for some helping replies and plz don't blind fold urself being loyal to ur device becoz my respect for Samsung is immortal, its just that I can't spend 30K blindly. I will have to consider the music segment.

Just do a fine tuning on your volume settings with the 'Samsung Secret Codes'
See this thread for guidance: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069015
Although for hearing music I had no problems, it was necessary for me to boost the headset volume for voice calls.
oh common, stop with this volume settings with Samsung secret codes, that has been posted by many here that this thing doesn't work. The numbers are re setting themselves back to original. The overall volume is just too low on this phone. I hope the 2.3.4. will adjust it higher.
Highly recommended:
To get clear sound from your Galaxy S II, simply install the free version of the brilliant "Equalizer"-app from Market. It has a five-band equalizer. From there you can increase the levels of the desired frequencies, treble, bass, midrange etc. The Galaxy S II has far to low default treble. This app takes care of that No root, no hassle.
There is also a paid version, but it is just needed if you want more than one custom preset.
But What about the levels of volume? Is it at par with the old Galaxy S?
... .

Well, I'm sorry for your insoluble problem, but I effectively fixed my volume problem in a permanent way (with various reboots with unchanged config after tweaking) using these codes.
I do apologise for my useless advice. I was only trying to help.
I hope you find a solution for your problems soon.

Actually, I've solved my volume problems following the guide of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741012 . and not the other one that I mentioned above. Unfortunately, it seems that it applies only for voice and video call volume, not for the media player. That said, I have to say that my music player is very loud, either using the headset or the speaker. I'm using the KE7 stock ROM.
Best of luck for you all guys.
the link you provide is for the old Galaxy S1, and even there guys complain about low level of EAR SPEAKER, and that the tweaked numbers reverse back to original after phone restart or re boot. So my question is: how did you make the new numbers to stay on your phone? I am using same KE7 and stock firmware as well. I can't raise the volume by these codes at all, doesnt stay not even 2 phone calls. Can you reveal the magic how did you do it? ( no offense to you at all, I am just helpless because I can't barely hear people calling me, driving in my car - Mercedes btw...)
Thank you for your help
Most stores (in Sweden anyway) have the phone so you can try it yourself, just go to a shop where either a manager carries it or the store has a demo of it and bring your headphones! You can't go wrong with that!
I have a really nice piece of Denon's (AH-D1001) and even though the phone can't power as well as the older galaxy s, I get a really natural good sound with mine and it's just loud enough. No EQ needed.

Yes, the original thread was for the ancient SGS1, nevertheless, the command still works for the SGS2 (at least for my device). Before I did the 'fine tuning' on my volume settings (following the SGS1 guide on the mentioned thread), I could barely hear the other person's voice in a phone call while using the headset. Now I adjust the volume around 70-75% for making phone calls using the headset, which is more than enough for me. I didn't do anything different than the guide says, and I have no idea why it doesn't work for your device.

Volum+ app

Anyone use this app with the NT? If so does it help the dismal volume? I am also a little nevous after reading the disclaimer of how it can blow out your speaker. Anyone had any issues like that lol?
I'm using that app. It works WONDERFUL, but I would advise you to heed that warning about cranking the volume too loud---the app can as much as double the typical volume of the device, which can be kinda bad for the speakers. I haven't had any problems, but I'm also not pushing it. Use good judgment.

well if you hear any sort of distortion at loudest level then back it down. You will know a speaker is being damaged/can be damaged becuase it will distort and sound horrible try out a song that changes in bass to really test.

This is a great find. Was struggling with the "soft" volume even when cranked up. This app addressed that very nicely. So far no problems ...
What is the exact name / correct spelling of this app? I am still having a hard time finding it, there are many "volume this or that" apps. Also, the link given to the developers site seems not to be working.

This is a great app. I love my nook tablet running cm7 just fine. But this app makes it so much better. I can actually watch videos without headphones. I set it to volume level 10 and its perfect. Any higher and I think it will start to damage the speakers.
Just found the app! Looks awesome! About time i can play with the EQ whilst listening to music through my headphones.
The developer's site seems to be working now. Reading it indicates they did have some site problems recently, I must have visited during one of those times. But all seems working now, I was able to download and install app, looking forward to trying it out.
To answer my own previous question, the name of the app is actually "VOLUME+". But don't bother searching Market or google, best place to get it seems to be developer's site (see above).
Thanks for the info on this app! I've been buggin' out because of the low volume... now it's workin' great (with CM7).

How can I route Call sound to phone speaker

How can I route Call sound to phone speaker on cm7 without using any Paid apps.
My phones mic doesn't work and no mechanics were able to fix it. No HTC care or something is present in my city.
I am able to use my phone with headphone mic. Now I want to fix the problem headphone mic to my phone but only problem is I need the sounds to come out of the phone speaker/sbox.
Basically :
My phone need to do this:
Headphone mic for voice input.
BUT outputs call sound through phone speaker or sound box.
I only need it during phone calls but all time is okay too.
I'm rooted, s off on cm7.2 drowning child's kernel, on the Intruder(At&t)
Version of the now low end phone HTC Aria.
It has a room choice of cyanogenmod 6 and 7.2 official, cm9,10 custom ported. Have good knowledge of android but NO developer. Ready to do every thing except bricking my phone to achieve this.
How can I achieve this?
(I should have posted this on my devices forum but there's almost no one there except one or two kind hearted porters, so I am posting this as general android question)

So you are saying your internal microphone is broken, and you want to use an external mic but also use the internal speaker. Did you try using speakerphone at a low volume, maybe that would work for you.

Main speaker is sometimes low

Hello,
i have a the problem that my main speaker is sometimes very low. When i start playing music it's the normal volume for about 0,5 seconds but then it's really low. The problem is really often, not always, and even a restart of the phone doesn't work. I have already reset my phone but it still doesn't work.
Does anyone have the same problem or maybe a solution?
Best regards
Zillinda
i had it. its a hardware problem they will fix only if it will stop for good and not random... (thats why Z5c is my last sony)
my orginal post https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/help/speaker-stop-randomly-t3451518
It would be very helpful to know on which firmware you are, because it could also be software related.
Sounds to me like the low volume bug which is a known issue for nougat stock rom.

I am on 32.3.A.0.376 but i already have the problem since Marshmallow.
I just saw now that you wrote on your main speaker.
Does that mean the problem is only for the upper speaker?
Or do you have the problem on both.

That's partially the same one.
However not exactly. You got two speakers on your device which are hardware related identically. For playing music and video both are used to get stereo sound. For voice calls only one is used normally unless you change it by editing some system files.
So when you play music and get that problem, are both speakers low or just one?

So i don't believe in a hardward issue. Seems to be the common low volume bug some devices have with nougat.
For more infos read the 3 nougat threads in general section about the .372 , .376 and the .378 firmware.
The strange thing is that you say you had it before with marshmallow. Not sure if that problem had existed before. That would make this even more shamefull for sony. Do you know which MM version had you installed before.
However you can try a clean flash of latest nougat. If it's still there, please try to make a clean install of latest MM rom 5.11
If that solves your problem you will have to wait for a new fixed nougat firmware from sony
in my case its since 5.1.1 but its randomly when i tap the speaker is start working good again (only the top one ,which it more important the top one has better sound range (100-24000Hz)
bottom one is (500-48000H) i think

BT Sound Problem with B&O H9i

Hey,
ive got my new 7t Pro straight a few days back and what to say ? Im absolutley amazed from this smoothnes & speed of this device. Never see something else before.. Im coming from Samsung.
The Only thing that hurts is, that my BT Headset is much more silent on 7t Pro, then on my other Samsung devices (Note 9, Note 8(wife), S7e). No matter wich Sammy Device i tested..the sound is around ~30% louder and on top, the bass and the whole feeling of Sound ist much more flat then on Samsung.
What ive done so far:
Ive checked Dev Options, and all seems good. AAC Codec is Set, the Streamquality is set correct and yeah..looks good.
Ive installed and re-installed the B&O App, but makes no Difference, Sound is bad with and without this App.
And i tested these Options on Oneplus, DAtmos & Headphonesettings. No one of this things make anything better, i guess it was bader then before. Just saying, i never used DAtmos or smiliar on this BT Headset, because it sounds nearly perfect out of the Box for my ears. So just in case i would test it too, but no notable difference.
