[Q] baseband help? want to try new kernel. - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok guys I have been reading all day trying to find directions on exactly how to flash my baseband and the more threads and posts i read I am just getting myself confused So I need someone who knows how to do this to confirm the following or correct anything i have wrong before i attempt this. I am using wolfbreaks TW 0007 froyo rom and have some experience with using Xrecovery so i am not clueless about making changes to my X10. Here's my question, I know i need bb .52 to use wolfs rom with his kernel. I am currently on bb .54 and i know i have to use flashtool to flash a new baseband. This is the first time attempting to flash a baseband or try a custom kernel.
Do I flash the BB.52 by itself with flashtool and then reboot into Xrecovery and flash Wolfbreaks TW v007 rom with Kernel?
do I need to flash back to Generic SE .435 2.1 firmware before I flash the baseband?
Some guys had posted to bundle the BB and rom, then flash with flashtool but the rom is a . zip file not a .ftf or .rar so i'm pretty sure that isn't right.
I hope someone can help me clear this up so i can start enjoying the custom kernels the devs are working on. thanks to everyone on XDA for the awesome work you do.

A full reflash is recommended as it is hard to mess up. As a matter of fact I've just completed my flash from stock kernel TW007 to the custom kernel version.
So here's the steps:
1. Use any available method to revert to stock.
2. Get root, xRec, etc. from flashtool
3. Make sure you can enter xRecovery (Vital!)
4. Flash 2.0.52 baseband
5. After flashing, reboot directly into xRecovery (don't let the system do a full reboot!), then flash the .52 rom (kernel is already included in the package)
6. Reboot after flashing rom+kernel, let it settle then sign into market
7. Customize

[Q]I want to install custom kernel ,i m currently using freex10 b4 and bb.54,Plz guide me
I also would like to know the same thing , i read a lot but could not understand it
if someone can give me the step by step guide on how to install custom kernel on Z's freex10 b4 and tell how stable is custom kernel with freex10 , i would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
Is there no one to guide me in the right direction?
If I not wrong.
1) Install the bb patch and put in SD card
2) Flash bb52 using flashtool
3) After flashing, enter recovery immediately and flash the bb patch
4) Reboot to home screen and make sure ROM is functioning well with signal.
5) Reboot to recovery again and install the custom kernel.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 to 7.1 xrecovery problem.

I'm attempting to install the new Zmod Cyanogenmod 7.1 but am encountering problems with xrecovery unable to read the SD/card when installing. Supposidly the new version of xrecovery will fix my issue but when I looked at the thread listed "2.3 STOCK ROM" as a requirement.
Now I cant update to the official 2.3.3 rom as im on O2UK, but I'm currently running Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 (on baseband 0.52) so will I still be ok to update to the new version of xrecovery?
Also just a quick question as its been a while since I installed a new rom, it's baseband first (any .71?). My phone will still be rooted, busybox still installed, etc, as I've done all this before? Then install new .zip via xrecovery?
(I've already read the newbie threads so please don't just point me there, simple yes/no answers will suffice. I'm just a little confused about going from custom install to custom install.)
edit: could this be a problem with going from a 0.52 baseband to a 1.71? This thread talks about 0.54 but could it be something simiar? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053221
install xRecovery-0.3 (GBready) using flashtool
Here is the guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196808
He needs to install baseband .71, better if he just installed gb and root it.
from 2.1 or 2.2 baseband less then 2.1.71
u need flash 2.3.x room 1st after that use flash tools flash baseband 2.1.71....
if from 2.1/2.2 u flash baseband 2.1.71 after flash the 2.3.x rom that xrecovery cant use anymore,
u neef flash via flash tool to baseband to 2.1.67, do it from 2.1/2.2 as well
7.03 android 2.2.3 baseband 2.1.67
7.10 android 2.3.5 baseband 2.1.71

So install the zmod 7.1 .zip through my current version of xrecovery first, then use flashtool to upgrade the baseband to .71, root and then install the new xrecovery (as in the first reply)?

I might give this a try first as at least I'll have a fully working x-recovery before I start. After I've installed it this way can I go back to my 0.52 baseband and CMod 7.0.3 if I want?

Well I installed xrecovery via the instructions on that link and my phone is now stuck on the SE loading screen. This is exactly what I wanted to avoid as my phone is not running stock 2.3.3. Can I have a fix please!
edit: Ok got it working by installing the .zip and flashing the .71 baseband. Thanks.

cant access xrecovery.....

I flashed doomlords v4 kernel after flashing trips MIUI rom and have lost access to xrecovery. It just gets stuck at the Sony Ericsson logo. I went to superuser and turned on compatibility mode but nothing changed. Any help?

First, why do people keep posting questions to the dev section?!
Second, use flashtool to revert to stock firmware and start over.
First of all, wrong thread and second, wrong site. Ask in modaco site.
Rom is not using xrevovery03. And in kernel is xrecovery03.
Wondering if you are on baseband 71 and did you flash cm7 kernel by mistake.

Why modaco? The problem is not the ROM, as I'm currently using my phone to post this. The issue only came up after flashing the kernel.

Trips Roms are not compatible with custom kernels as he has stated before. you cant flash a custom kernel unless you have an unlocked bootloader (even then i'm not so sure). it stuffs the Recovery. Trips rom doesnt use Xrec 0.3. as a previous post stated you'll have to restore back to official 2.3.3 and re-root reinstall xrec and reinstall rom.

Hmm ok. So I need to flash the global generic 2.3.3 ftf and then do the downgrade / upgrade method? Then I can reinstall xrec and the rom?

Kernel will work. I tried an it worked. I do not what went wrong.
But use xrecovery03 before you flash kernel. Use flash tool GBready to get xrecovery03. You will reconize it by the logo of Z
woah! Don't start again with flashing 2.3 rom, it's unneccessary! you can manually copy/paste the needed files to the rom with a file manager and set the permissions right. But I would recommend you to unlock your bl, flash dooms stock 2.3.3 kernel for unlocked bl's and then the v04b kernel for locked bl's with recovery.
Why? Simple: using dooms stock 2.3.3 kernel means you can't loose xrecovery again, even if you format system partition and reboot you can enter xercoery again, cause it's included in the kernel. Also you can remove then the xrecovery.tar from your system partition cause it's not needed anymore.

Question about installing new rom

Hello all. I decided to install Hybrom on my Xperia mini pro (sk17i) but i'm little confused at the moment and don't know what to do. I have installed CM 7.2.0 rom with FreeXperia kernel. If i want to install the Hybrom, i just need to flash stock firmware via flashtool, install Clockwork once again, then install some custom kernel like Rage and then install the rom? Or do something else? And do i need to relock the bootloader to flash stock firmware?
Install stock firmware, install kernel, install ROM. That's all. No relock needed. Custom kernel already includes Recovery so it is not needed.

And when i flash firmware, wipe is automatically done so i don't need to do it manually?

Flashing stock firmware - if you choose it in Flashtool, then yes.
Custom - no, you have to do it yourself before installing the ROM.

Thank you, I really appreciate your answer, but I have one last question. Does the firmware already include rom and kernel, or rom only? And do I have to install newer baseband to it to make the custom rom work?

Stock firmwares in .ftf file already include ROM and kernel both.
Most custom ROMs have their own custom kernel that you need to install yourself. Sometimes it is written in the topic as separate download link, sometimes it is included inside the .zip file, then you need to extract it and flash via fastboot. Check my tutorial, if you need help with it.
Baseband will depend on the custom ROM.

Need Little Help

Hey guys,I own optimus one and I m used to rooting and stuff but my brother owns xperia mini pro so I need to install cyanogenmod (9 or10) whichever is stable.I had gone through various guides and stickies yet I want to be dead sure that I don't mess up my brothers handset. Its kinda new coz bootloader needs to be unlocked and also kernel image needed to be flashed separately unlike in optimus one.
Now I want help of you guys in the following manner like:-
1. My brothers mini pro is on ICS 4.1.B.0.587 and the rooting tutorial provided here for the said firmware
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0 is not clear to me coz it says that first I need to install some kernel [only mini mentioned here] then next I need to flash another kernel according to firmware. Can someone explain what is being done in this and why rooting is so complicated in this.
2. Certain ROM's say that you need to flash kernel first using flashtool
My query is that all ROM's that I flashed till now on optimus one included kernel and I only needed to flash ROM zip through cwm.. So do I need to flash kernel everytime I flash ROM!! and isn't there flashable zip for kernel too!!
3. FXP ROM's do not contain things like what's working and what's not, it only has issue tracker so it become difficult for new comer to know the bugs in ROM. Can anyone tell me the least bugs cm9 & cm10 ROM and what are the bugs present.
4. Lastly, should I proceed like this!!
i. Root device (though method isn't clear to me)
ii. unlock bootloader
iii. install cwm (I guess I can do this using flashtool)
iv. backup current ROM along with kernel (for future use,I know its optional)
v. flash kernel using flashtool
vi. flash ROM through cwm.
I m a quick learner and I just need some guidance on this new device (double checking coz its my bro's device) . Looking forward for support. Thanks

You needn't root first if you want to unlock bl, just unlock bl and flash a custom kernel (in most custom kernels cwm is included).
Backup your rom and install the rom...
hmmm....
1. Unlock Bootloader........
2. Flash Custom Kernel (all custom kernel is per-rooted and have CWM).......
3. Boot into CWM and Flash CM9 or CM10 (factory format/wipe dalvik/cache).....
4. Boot into Fastboot And Flash FXP kernel for CM9 or CM10.....
xperia phones aren't like sammy, lg or htc where recovery is a separate partition from kernel. in fact, by default xperia phones doesn't even have "stock recovery" like on other phone. by that we integrate cwm in kernel ramdisk.
and to answer the question:
1- flash custom kernel mean't for your phone only, never ever flash kernel intended for other phone. and its done via fastboot and should be flashed before flashing rom.
2- like i said u can't compare xperia phone with other phone like sammy etc, its different. kernel must be flash via fastboot.
3- for cm10, bugs that i notice is slow accelerator, but fixable with some text editing, and non working front camera for lww and minipro.
4- should be like this, according to order:
- unlock bootloader.
- flash kernel via fastboot.
- boot into cwm.
- backup rom if u want.
- wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. don't wipe system partition or u will get error when flashing rom later.
- flash rom, and gapps if its cm/aokp/pa rom.
- profit :good:
thank you guys.... this made me clear...
one last thing :- which kernel should I flash on stock 4.1.B.0.587 which is pre rooted and have cwm after unlocking bootloader.I mean the one compatible with above firmware and also do I need to do anything with baseband or will it be compatible. After this m ready to enter the custom xperia world
Remember to backup your stock rom before unlocking the bootloader as everything will be wiped clear.

No, i just meant that backup up your contacts, messages, apps (can be done through astro file manager) etc, before unlocking your bootloader because unlocking will wipe your data.
