[Q] Bamf GingerRemix 2.1 MD5 not matching... - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I wish I could post this in the relevant thread in the developer section but I don't have the necessary credentials. Anyway... it is 10:31 pm pst and I have been trying to download the zip for bamf gingerRemix 2.1 but each time I d/l i get a MD5 sum that does not match the one listed in the OP.
Now I am pretty familiar with flashing roms and I am checking the file using Hash Droid on my phone. I have never had this problem before, except for once when I had a corrupt download.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there something wrong on the server? I Just dont want to brick my phone (obv) so I am going to hold off until I get an answer.
Thank you!

I just posted your issue in the remix 2.1 thread so hopefully the op will see it and figure out what's going on. Good luck...

I think this is the correct section to post this question. You get a faster response here plus dev section is used more for releases and dev discussion at most.
How many times have you tried? And have you tried checking the md5 on your computer? And are you changing ANYTHING? Even the name... e.g. file(1).zip instead of file.zip since you've redownloaded it.

Thank you!
The weird thing is though, I am downloading the file on my mac, and in the download progress window it is showing the file size as 287mb which is what the developer says is the right size. When the download finishes, however, the file shows in OS X as being approx 301 mb and the md5 sum doesn't match. Has anyone ever run into this problem?

Yes, I never would dream of starting a thread in the Dev section I know that much at least heh, glad I came here.
I have not renamed it and each time I redownload I have been deleting the previous file so the OS doesn't rename with (1). I think I have downloaded it approx 5 times.
Each time I download it, it shows as XXX/287 mb while downloading, but once on my HD it reads as 301 mb under get info and doesn't match MD 5
I have not checked the md5 on my computer, I will try that now.

Okay, I resolved this problem.
I checked the file in terminal on OS X and saw that the MD5 matches correctly.
I then copied it to my SD card and used hash droid again and realized that I AM A TOTAL IDIOT and was checking the md5 of the wrong file. I was checking the "_BAMF-GingerREMIX-v2.1.zip" listed at the top of the SD card rather than the actual file listed further down.
I am so sorry for wasting your time guys, thanks for the help!

First, I got your PM. Second, these posts belong in Q & A, not dev.
Now, "android" is an executable file that opens via Terminal. If it isn't opening, it may be corrupt and it may need to be downloaded again. I haven't encountered what you are describing and I haven't been able to replicate it on my machine. Try re-downloading and post back here and let me know.
Just use this copy of adb. Works fine, should be all you need.

...so you think all need is that version of abd, cause I figured out my problem, its because the web site that I download the original post's abd says its for Mac OSX with intel, my laptop is a bit older and does not have intel....u think ill be fine?
oh and one other question, the step that requires you do download the RUU files and mirrors, there are 3 links for the first and second file and 2 links for the third, do you have to download from all the links or are they just different sites to download the same file....oh and I apologize if I keep asking dumb questions but this is my first time every doing this
You just need one of each.

[Q] Eris Rooting track ball challenge

I have spent days looking for threads so this neewb is about to break something. Well maybe not. I have my daughters Eris 2.1 and am trying to root it for her. I have tried several times with different methods. The issue is that I can get into recovery mode after every 1 click app but nothing I try will let me toggle to unzip to SD, or toggle to anything for that matter, volume wont do it and all track ball will do is let me select reboot. Man my DX was easy compared to the one click method.
HELP PLEASE,
If the trackball is having trouble scrolling, I'd install the trackball-optional custom recovery so you can use other buttons to scroll. There are instructions for doing this here:
http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/214240-amon_ra-1-6-2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html
It sounds like you fall into "Scenario 2" which says you should follow the same method as "Scenario 1" to get rooted using the trackball-optional recovery.
I'll give it a shot, The help is much appreciated,
I am been trying to help him to get this thing to add the Custom Recovery, but every root format has not worked at all. Most are outdated or there are files missing. Specially on the link provided above. The download for the scripts no longer has Root_1 or Root_2, it has a bunch of other stuff there for gscript. Found an link on Droidforums for gscript for rooting and the scripts don't work.
Any complete instructions anywhere?

popfan,
I am not aware that any of the above links or files are missing... Can you point-out / tell me specifically which files you cannot access / download / link-to?
The root_part1 and root_part2 files are part of erisuser1's (bftb0's) Universal Root for Dummies! thread that I do reference in my AF thread, but these should still be up, active, and available.
So, I'm not sure if you are speaking about becoming rooted or installing a my trackball-optional custom recovery.
Let us know.
Cheers!
Im sure my kid has shuned me for leaving her Eris with someone so thanks to everyone for the help. Pop is helping me out and after moving file at the point where it says to open and look to see root 1 and root2 they are not there and there are a ton of other stuff. Also the pick look different than on the thread like the app has been updated. Also when doing the ball recovery there is no tools folder to be found. I'm sure pop wont touch it again till tomorrow so any other help / advice is more than welcome or it may cost me my Dx

LOL, sorry, didn't make/see the connection between your two posts .
Okay, let's try something new here...
Just a week or so ago, I re-packed jcase's 1-click rooting app to include my trackball-optional recovery image in lieu of the original recovery that his app includes.
So, let's have you re-root using the new 1-click app (all credit to jcase, both for his app and his threads both here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742228 and over at AF http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/139178-universal-1-click-eris-app-apk-no-pcs-no-scripts-needed-easy.html).
Since you've already used the 1-click app before, then all you'll have to do is grab my new "trackball-optional" version:
https://sites.google.com/site/scaryalienware/downloads/one-click-tbo.apk
MD5 sum: 15763b51cf707c027cc73bc117e1fc39
(the "tbo" in the name stands for "trackball optional" ).
Just follow the same process you did before while running the 1-click app and you should end-up with my trackball-optional recovery installed.
Let me know how it goes (you'll be the first besides me that I know of that has tried it; the user that I created it for to test has not yet responded, LOL).
Cheers!
I tried this link below. It no longer has the root_1 and root_2 in it.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=774XYFRA
I did use your "updated" 1-click app with tbo and it worked great.
Thanks!!
Too bad this phone was not as easy as my captivate.

Glad that jcase's repackaged app worked for you. I'll update my documentation to make this available to others.
Also, re. the above Megaupload link...it works just fine for me (from my PC and from my Droid X) and includes all of the aforementioned root_part1/2 files.
I think you've fallen prey to a truncated download, which is not uncommon with Megaupload in my experience. This is also why is important to double-check the file sizes and MD5 checksums of files that you download so that you know you got the whole-shebang; notice that erisuser1 did include the MD5 in his thread for this file:
- Download gscript.zip (MD5 92796a8c6e61e8f1ee36e315c0acae7d)
I've often found it helpful to use a different browser other than the stock browser (like Opera Mini) when doing downloads via my Eris since the stock browser does seem to have more issues (timeouts perhaps) than it should.
Cheers!
Thanks to all this tuff till you hooked us up but now on to nightmare 2
I downloaded CyanogenMod7.1.0 RC1 [2.3.5 GingerBread NIGHTLY]
from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944430&highlight=ROM
Got it up but it has no market so I can not get to titanium, boot loader or anything... It says to flash google apps after the rom but now Im back to the trackball / volume key issue because it's all in titanium. ??? I did a factory reset and it came back up as the new ROM, ???
EDIT UPDATE!!!!
Sorry for the hassle all, the "green" start call button works as the down after the download.. All is well.. I think..
Again thanks to you all, If I hear of any good deals on an Eris I will know why.
You need to download GAPPS to your sdcard. That is why you don't have market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944430&highlight=ROM
Its just below link for the rom and save it to your sdcard. Go ahead boot into recovery and wipe data, daliv-cache, cache; Flash Rom again, then flash gapps and reboot.

[WebOS][Doctor] HP Touchpad 3.0.4 77

I went ahead and uploaded the doctor file for those that the OTA did not work.
this is the full file not the bs web start app hp has on their site. lol
http://www.multiupload.com/762XCTTMUX
Plug in your Touchpad to the PC before starting.
The webOS Doctor tool will guide you through the installation process.
The tool may autorun after you download it. If not, double-click the file in the location where you downloaded it.
Warning Do not disconnect your device from your computer during the recovery process. Disconnecting the device cancels the recovery process and may damage your personal information.
Note If the battery level is low, the recovery process first charges your battery. This can take up to one hour.
Tip If connection options appear on your device's screen when you plug it in, your device is not frozen and it is not in USB Update mode.
When the Reset Complete screen appears, click Done.
Wait a few minutes for your device to reset.
When prompted, enter your existing HP webOS Account email address and username. This restores any information backed up to your webOS Account (such as contacts, calendar events, and tasks) back to your device. It also restores information from any online accounts you synchronize with, such as Google or Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.

note: this will reset your touchpad.
note: you will need to reinstall moboot / CM7/ CWM

Can you post an MD5 of your file? I downloaded both yours and the other one and the checksums don't match, I may have gotten a corrupted download somewhere though.
EDIT: File compare is going crazy, they are almost definitely not the same file. The webOS.tar file seems to be the same in both downloads, so I'm not sure where the actual difference exists.

Been trying to install android on my touchpad, but having an issue with the "boot cyanogenMod" option showing up. I'm wondering if I need to put the touchpad back to 100% stock before doing android? I had a different kernal plus a large amount of patches.
Do you recommend WebOS Doctor prior to doing CyanogenMod....or would I be wasting my time?
No it doesn't have to be stock. Just make sure you have all the necessary drivers installed. And the palm webos sdk.

I'm getting ready to put the Android Alpha V2 on my TP for kicks, and while researching it, I sometimes read about WebOS Doctor... yet after Googling it, I'm STILL not sure just what the heck it is or what you use it for? Thanks!
EDIT: I found a better link explaining it. It's a recovery tool in case you brick your TP. It will wipe and restore. I'm looking for a way to BACK UP everything on my TP... so I don't see why copying everything from the TP Hard Drive to a folder on my computer can hurt? I may not be able to technically restore it, but it'll be there. I also did a WeOS Dr backup too.
Thanks!

Partition Tables- Get them here

Hey guys, there's a ton of confusion going on because of partition tables and what not. The Galaxy Player 4.0 uses a BML partition table. The Galaxy Player 5.0 uses a MMC block partition table. I ran into problems with 8g versus 16g partition tables because the 8gig won't work on the 16gig and vice versa. We need a master list of PIT files. This is that master list.
International is the standard version. Because of copyright problems, US versions may be different.
PARTITION TABLES
Galaxy player 4.0 16gig thanks some korean site.
Galaxy Player 4.0 US 8gig thanks hyperrunner
Galaxy Player 4.0 International 8gig thanks zaclimon
Galaxy Player 5.0 16gig thanks ishish9
Galaxy Player 5.0 US 8gig thanks redpirate8
Galaxy Player 5.0 International 8gig thanks aillez
Please post your partition table and I will link it in the above. If you have one which is not in the list, let me know.
How to obtain your partition table
Download Heimdall Suite here: http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
Open "heimdall-frontend"
if you encounter errors in windows, you need to install the zadig libusb driver. Remember to "show all" from the menu in the program.
Put your device in Download mode
Click the Utilities tab
select an output filename. The file should always end with a "pit" I'd recommend something descriptive. eg..
GalaxyPlayer4.0-16G.pit, or G70-GalaxyPlayer5.0-8gig.pit
upload that file to http://mediafire.com
I recommend Mediafire because they have no distracting adds, no 50 second wait time, no signup, and everything is straight forward as opposed to 99% of the other file hosting sites.
post the mediafire link here in the forum
Ok, first, I don't think there are 16gb versions, other than maybe one for korea?
Second, The main issue here is the international version vs. the U.S. version, I believe there is quite a bit of difference in the firmwares of these versions, so you should probably have sections for "U.S. 4.0, U.S 5.0, International 4.0, International 5.0"
You might get more positive results that way
I am needing the 4.0 U.S Pit, btw, so thank you for creating this thread!
Edit: also, didn't you say in your other thread that heindmall doesn't work with these?
Here you go,
DOWNLOAD
P.S. - I couldnt get it the way you asked me so i ran terminal and used this code.
dd if=/dev/block/bml2 of=/sdcard/part.pit
Also this is the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 U.S. 8GB Version
Thanks, but it still doesn't work!? Stuck at "set partition" forever!

You need to get the Heimdall partition. I observed the same behavior before. and I was thinking it was a fluke.. It looks like on this device the heimdall dump will set the partitions, a bml dump wont.
I'll remove that and we're back at square one.
We could really use some participation here. You'll be thankful if you brick your device. Currently there are no recovery options... This is part of creating the first one ever.
Yeah i have been trying that but Heindall says that libusb error 13 for some reason i would get it but i cant since the error. Do you got a solution for it. I would do it but i cant get pass that error? I've tried installing libusb.

Try making sure you have the samsung usb drivers installed; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
and usb debugging enabled in /settings/applications/development. After that is enabled, just plug it into the pc, don't select connect to computer.

WAIT, ive seen some videos in which you flash it. Most of them the md5 or tar file contains more stuff other than factoryfs.rfs and zImage.
Or is that ok since its not a phone if it is not or there is a problem just tell me and give me the commands to retrieve these needed files and i will make a new Firmware.
EDIT 2 Look im trying my best i can. I have never used odin or kernal and all the other files md5 or commands so dont give me any crap. Ive been trying to help you guys from the start. Im trying to learn while doing this it is not simple. Other morons would not even get passed the commands on terminal. If you dont want my help well then you wont get it. Currently im the only one helping you guys. As i said in the post above me if you need any other files in the md5 just give me the commands and i will reupload them.
EDIT 3 NVM
Ok, I think I know what to do, but we should move to a new thread in "general" so we don't clutter up this thread

Indirect's Winows-based Root Method Not Working for me

Hi all,
First off, just want to say thanks to all of the hardworking devs out there that put a lot of time and effort into these projects. You guys are really awesome!
Secondly, I tried to post this as a reply in the developer's forum, but didn't have enough posts to qualify.
That all being said, I followed all of the instructions in Indirect's post here, but can't get the Nook Tablet to bring up recovery mode when I reboot. It just continues to load the standard B&N image. I even tried a factory reset to see if that would work, but same problem. I verified that the files on the micro-SD card match those as shown in Albert's excellent video here. The device is still running 1.4.0.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
No luck here either...I tried the root while watching Albert's You Tube video at the same time. I think the significant thing is that my screen displays something like:
Extracting files to SYSTEM...
Setting SYSTEM:bin/su permissions to 06755...
Creating SYSTEM:xbin/su symbolic link...
Installation Complete!
Install from sdcard complete.
Whereas the screen in the video shows:
Extracting files to SYSTEM...
Setting SYSTEM:bin/su permissions to 06755...
Creating SYSTEM:xbin/su symbolic link...
Installing GApps 29110878
For Android 2.3.5 Customized for the nook tablet
Mounting data...
Extracting files to data...
Unmounting data...
Install complete. Enjoy!
Installation Complete!
So clearly my install seems to silently abort somewhere in the middle...
Any insight or advice would be appreciated!

Beatbox,
Just re-reading your post I think I got farther than you, but also got stuck on your issue earlier. If you keep the Nook plugged into the PC via the USB cable during the power on, the Nook will boot into the recovery mode - that at least was what got me past your issue.
It's not about Rooting OR recovery. It's about the fact that this method is still being worked on. Indirect has been making modifications to the various files and it is my opinion that the file used in Albert's video is NOT the same file that would be downloaded if you went and obtained it right now.
I would wait this out until Indirect writes an updated post explaining that the method is finalized.
If this is not an option the original root method works perfectly.
Land - when you say "original root method" are you talking about something that predates Albert's solution?

If you are running 1.4.1 you will need to downgrade first.

Cool jearley9, this did indeed work for me and I was able to load the image. Problem now is that I always end up at the normal B&N Setup screen. Were you able to get past that part?
And thanks to all the other thread participants. I know it takes time to work these things out, so no biggie. We all get a little too excited and impatient with things like these sometimes.
Thanks - looking it over now...

Beat,
Does your screen match my screen or the one in Albert's video? If it matches then you and I have the same problem. If not then you have something different going on...

Definitely matches yours. Just didn't know if you got further than I did after rebooting.

Just wanted to provide an update. I attempted the instructions from the original rooting thread (my nook tablet doesn't have 1.4.1 yet, so didn't need to downgrade). When I ran the batch file to root, it detected that the device was already rooted - which I quote from the script, "Is bothersome."
Okay, so i think my device is half-rooted somehow. Just can't get the new home screen that I'm seeing on all the videos. I'll keep you guys updated with my further troubleshooting attempts.
Beat, you and I are at least synchronized - I too tried the original root method, and I had the same exact problem as you describe... a message saying "already rooted". I did a system reset right before I tried the root, so I don't see how it could be "already rooted".
I just purchased my Nook yesterday. I am wondering if there are newer units (mine included) that are more resistant to being rooted?
I'm having the same issue, but I can use the search function to determine that apps WERE installed (and will execute properly). I believe that Indirect has removed ADW launcher and Homecatcher from the zip we're suppossed to drop onto the SD Card. My guess is that we're waiting for him to come up with a solution to the "Market not showing up in launcher" issue.
Can someone confirm this?
Well any other tactics I've tried have been to no avail, so I'll just be patient and wait for Indirect to address it. I'm sure he has enough on his plate without us bugging him.
Many thanks to him again for even working on something like this.
Edit:
Okay, for some reason I missed Albert Wertz's helpful Youtube comment:
Please Vote this comment up so everyone else can read it among all the others. Indirect is making some changes to the script, if you dont get adw to launch right after the first reboot from root, you may have to download it manually from the market. You can use the N button menu search function to pull up market by typing M in the search. You can launcher it from here. Until the bugs are worked out, you may only be able to install from market, sideloading may still be an issue. Indirect is fixin

I did this and have no problem bringing up the Android Market now. Just installed an app successfully. Not sure where it lives though. I could only seem to launch it from the Recently Downloaded icon at the bottom bar.
Edit 2:
Okay, just restarted after installing the ADW and now it prompted me to start with it. Only issue I have now is if I hit the N button, it reverts back to the original Barnes & Noble homescreen and I have to reboot to launch ADW again.
I got pretty much to the same place - I downloaded HomeCatcher but that seems to be non-functional - Looks like the Nook home screen is winning this round...

To truly "reset" the system run the downgrade I linked previously EVEN IF you are on 1.4.0. After that it will be just like you took the NT out of the box. Then run the Indirect Root Batch and the "you are already rooted" should be gone. I would hope so anyway
Land,
I did the press and hold 9 times and got back to factory state.
Also, I tried Brianf21's files and I got the same problem as you. If I try to open Update.Zip from Windows it gives me "Please insert last disk of a multi-volume set...". I would guess that the zip file is malformed or incomplete, but that's just a guess...

I copied this post to the Development Thread in my recent reply to Brianf21. It is conceivable at this point that you and I are the only ones that have tried this. lol
Please put information regarding future attempts in that thread to help him troubleshoot.
Glad to see that you were able to reset. I don't believe it will be necessary again if Brian fixes the issue. To my knowledge simply entering CWM using his image had NO affect on my NT.
Land,
Sorry I can't comply with your request - the forum software won't let me post in the development area due to my "newness" - I am 53 years old and have 30 years of software/firmware development experience, but to this forum I am a "newbie"

Alrighty then.... I don't know if I should laugh or cry. You can't even "post" in the Dev section? I wonder how many posts you need. Seems a little extreme to me but you will get there soon enough I guess.
In the meantime I'll make sure that your comments are known. Thanks!
