I'm rooted via RyanZA's OCLF 2.0 lag fix.
Should we unroot or is it okay to stay rooted when applying the 2.2 update, when and if ever it comes out? ie...will being rooted have an effect on the ability to upgrade to the update that "may" arrive, if ever....
Any wild guesses of what we could expect with the Quadrant scores from 2.2? Right now I'm hitting 2400~
This really belongs in the Q&A section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=747
But.. odds are once 2.2 is officially available, a rooted flash-able version will probably appear here with in 24 hours.
Even better odds are we will be running a fully functional 2.2 long before any official version get released.
It is all up to you.
I will remain rooted and take what XDA gives me... and like it
LOL @ 98classic, that's not nice!

I'd say flash the Froyo ROM and test it yourself rather then raging on some dude in a forum. The fact still remains... no one knows what the performance will be like as it hasn't been released to us yet(other then the EU release).
To address your last statement; Clearly, my wild guess at a quadrant score is going to be 9000+...
Quadrant scores don't mean anything but for bragging rights. And I wouldn't flash the "Froyo ROM" the "performance" increases that are promised in 2.2 are not in the leak. JIT is missing and 3.5mm" headphone jack and other problems are still in there.
+ Wrong section.
Honestly I am running the leaked froyo ROM, and it seems to be fast even on stock clock and no JIT
BTW the month of September is almost out, what gives?

People should really take a look at the sticky for forum rules...this is an all ages community...and the flaming on the fly needs to stop...and think about it, we where all nubs at one point...people post in the wrong areas...this happens...they will learn after a while or you could kindly answer there question or link them to the right thread...then if the issue isn't covered answer to the best of your knowledge...we are an open source community...we are an all ages community...let's grow up and act like it....I'm sick of the flame wars...its no wonder we don't have all the vibrant devs here at xda...a lot of devs I know are on other sites and won't post work here because everything starts a flame war....
And to answer the question for the op...sorry for the long bit above...but you should stay rooted, all the new roms for 2.2 and so on will either be flashable though clockwork or odin...there its no need to unroot for carrier updates...are devs do an awesome job at making are sammys better than stock...and as time goes on and some possible sever space we could see an update app for roms like the cm updater for most other phones with cm.

Thread moved to Q&A.
Thread closed.
I had to post this because the only to working roms are the Gingerbread ones and thats it. Did all the developers stop working on their roms and moved on? or can we expect updates on their exsisting roms?
There are some really good roms out there and it seems as though the Eris is coming to an end.
Hmmm the only two working roms are the Gingerbread ones? I beg to differ....
It seems like most of the froyo roms have been updated around mid-late January.. I didn't know a few weeks was the end of our eris' lives! Your right though, in the sense that CM7 is now the new popular choice, and subsequently the most updated/talked about roms. Also alot of our devs have moved on to different phones and only drop by occasionally here to maintain their work and lend an expert hand

xtrROM was just updated to version 5 a couple of weeks ago. CELB gets updated every few weeks. My guess is that Workshed and Tazz are concentrating on GB rather than Froyo these days, though I think Tazz is still working on the Froyo Sense build.
I think that Froyo has matured, obviously Eclair has as well, and obviously Gingerbread is getting a lot of attention right now.
Tazz is still updating his Froyo rom's, workshed is still updating his Froshedyo build, punk.kaos is still updating his froyo build as well as his GB build. New themes and complete theme roms are being built for cm7 AND cm6 constantly. Just gotta check the forums frequently and watch for updates. There's actually quite a bit of action going on in the Eris forums now a days, on the CM6 side as well as CM7. Also I am about to have a CM6 rom in the works.
Tazz and Workshed are perfecting their CM7 roms at the moment but are still dedicated to their CM6 roms too. There are some amazing devs here at the Eris forums that are working hard through sickness and all kinds of personal issues to give the people what they want. The 1st post is kind of like an insult to their work. Don't give up on them, they just have a lot on their plate right now.
Oh no don't get me wrong, I love my Eris. I do like the new GB roms its basically the same style and it makes it confusing which one to load on the phone. Zenexp, Energyexpress, tenzoRCmix those roms I wish were updated too. Especially those roms with apps2sd which makes it better for the Eris being that the Eris doesn't have lots of space.
But I understand these Dev's working hard to ensure that our phone become part of the whats new in the market on other phones. I commend their hard work.
just fyi both the gingerbread roms now have app2sd and cache2cache working. also, tazz had commented recently in his gingerbread thread about working on the camera for froyo sense.
Any of the 2.1 roms have been taken as far as they can go.
The 2.2 ROMs are almost 100% perfect... so no reason to update.
2.3 ROMs make the most sense.

OR... you could take those ol 2.1 roms and with the permission of their respected devs, and work on them yourself. Use the android kitchen to change some stuff n tweak it around. Then maybe YOU sir can update them for US!

He doesn't seem to be. KF last update was two months ago, and his GB ROM hasn't been updated since Jan 10. I'm not complaining about it at all, but he seems to be spending a lot of time working on his Fascinate ROMs right now.
I think Conap, Workshed, Tazz, Tenzo, and Zach.xtr are the developers most actively working on Eris ROMs right now.
Not so fast, Ranger Rick! They're developing on MANY levels. The Eris is still a big deal, okay? Okay
And now there is another new dev on here..... ME ! Put up my 2.2 rom a few days ago !
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=963722
Started working on a CM7 build yesterday as well and should have it done by the end of the week hopefully !!!!
Thanks for the feedback guys. I didn't mean to sound like a jack, but you're right about the roms. I would love to create my own or better yet take a rom and change to my liking. But don't know how. These roms you guys make are awesome but its like I always want more and always love new updates or new roms.
I'm good with PSCS4 but not coding or even trying to create a rom. I would love to learn and create my own or mod someone elses rom. How?
I think that first learning app creation might be a good place to start, get the basics of programming down. Then try to go deeper with a ROM. Idk, maybe that's just my own idea. I personally am kind of in the process od learning Java coding to make apps and have a few ideas for apps. The developer of one of my favorite apps called Ethereal Dialpad is helping me learn. He suggested Processing. Seems easy enough.

Check out this post bro, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756775
As long as you follow it step by step and don't do anything wrong it's actually kind of easy. Once I got everything installed and running it took me about 2 days to get my own 2.2 rom up and working (very fast and stable if I might add lol) which is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=963722
Now I'm working on a CM7 GingerBread rom for the Eris which will hopefully be done by the end of this week. Main thing you need to do is download the Oracle Virtual Machine and install Ubuntu on it. That first link I posted tells you how to do everything ! Try it out man, gotta start somewhere ! If you need any help with making yours, just let me know and I'll help to the best of my abilities !
Great news!

this is great news and I am glad to read this! My Eris was my first Android phone and I am glad to see it is still being developed for! yeah!
The Eris is still alive according to Droid Life's article. We might get an OTA update. AWESOME. I still love my phone and love creating icons and putting ideas on it. Its just that every other phone is getting more attention and the Eris is in the back burner.
I'm still keeping mine.
The update is confirmed and people are already getting it. Justrelaxing on the Android Central forums has already got the update along with a few others. Here's the page, go to post #27

Anyway to patch the kernal changes into the new GB BAMF neccesary for the call recorder. I am willing to compile the kernal myself but unsure of the changes needed. Also unclear if I need to edit the phone.apk. If anyone knows I would appreciate a bump in the right direction.
I would also like to see this feature back. I'm really missing it now that it's gone.
+1 I loved that feature during the short time I had 1.6.3!!! It's very useful during phone interviews! I can look back on what questions they asked me and analyze how good or bad my answers were
I hope someone brings it back for the BAMF GB roms!
+1

We don't have the source for the GB kernel at least not the official one right now I think they are worried about getting things to work good before they try and implement a lot of other features but I'm sure it will come soon enough.
Hi Guys,
I have been watching recently many people talking about this thing named Asgard.
I am just wondering if some of you could tell me what it means or what it is?
(Sorry For Being Noob)
Thx, FernKomoYo
I believe its a gingerbread rom, from EDT... they have more information about it on their website.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
As ChoctawT said, its a Gingerbread rom made by EDT (Einherjar Development Team), you can download it from their website. Its not longer being developed because they can't go any further without an official leak, so they came back to Froyo, and started Project V and Bi-Winning, or so i have heard.
They will resume development once they get a hold of an official leak, wich we don't know when its going to be.
I would recommend CM7 over Asgard just because CM7 is still active and they have support on their threads.
thx to both, ChoctawT and djluis48, i was actually searching about this on their forum, and it seems to be good, only bug is gps, i dont know how much reallity is this, but if it is only gps then it is quite good.
I'd go with Asgard personally. You're not gonna find werking GPS on any 2.3 ROM just yet. And even when it does how great do you honestly think its gonna werk? I'm guessing not very. GPS unfortunately for our vibrant will always kinda suck as far as I'm concerned. Good luck!
What advanced knowledge of this platform, I find digging thru this forum an impossibility. I have a Samsung Vibrant with stock FroYo 2.2 and am suffering terrible lag. It's beyond me why this is allowed to continue by the vendor.
So if I want a new ROM and/or Kernel to fix the major lag problem, I'm left wondering which is the best.
Well you kinda have to decide which type of rom that you'd want to try to use. If you want the stock rom I recommend installing the Bali kernel...it's fixed a lot of issues and gives great speed and battery life which is what I'm using.
Hopefully, you have rooted your phone before doing anything.
Bali Kernel Rocks for Froyo.
You can even try CM7 or MIUI Gingerbread ROMs.
We stopped relying on Samsung ages ago for providing any further updates.
If you want the best experience from your phone, you're going to have to take risks. But its nothing since this phone is technically "brickproof". Try installing a ROM besides Froyo, like GB or maybe a ROM that's Froyo but with different themes and tweaks, I just can't use stock 2.2 anymore lol.
Stupid Samsung and TMobile don't give a rat's a$$ about our phones or the Lag, and once they announced there will be no GB release, many devs have disappeared (though there are some new ones who inherited phones showing up now too )
For your first custom ROM...I wouldn't go with GB - it's not for beginners.
For 2.2 without the lag and some extra tweaks, try Project V - but there are lots of great ROMs out there that will help you ditch the Lag + a whole lot more. I know people who are still running Nero and Axura without problems - so you can probably just find a rom - look at the release date, and start reading the forum posts after that date. There's plenty in the noob stickies about how to root, most ROMs still provide install instructions.
Though - there are things like update of the Market, etc. - that you will need to allow extra time for during your "settling" periods...
i agree with the poster above, root your device and flash the bali 1.8.6 capped kernel. that'll convert your file system to ext4 and you'll be rocking. no need for the custom roms unless you're really adventurous.
While there is no need for custom roms I still think that you should try bionix 1.3.1 or project-v by edt both froyo roms to get a taste of what we in the vibrant community have and appreciate everyday
Bionix 1.3.1 has countless themes and project-v is by far imho the best 2.2 rom with the best speed and battery life and its always been what I fall back on when gb gives me problems. Also flash the trigger theme with it, it'll look better and bali kernel for battery

When did they announce there would be no more updates for the Vibrant. I don't remember hearing anything about that. I've given up hope that there will be, but I haven't heard anything officially.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
For a first rom I would suggest something form sombionix. He was the best dev ever on this platform, and the roms are pretty much stupid proof, and more reliable than stock. anything from nero v3 to bionix 1.3 are all solid. You just need to take the way back machine and look as far back as 2009 to find them. Though his last rom thread keeps getting bumped as its just amazing and everyone keeps using it.

Well...since I only have it based on what I've seen/heard here, I should rephrase:
"Once whatever event, whether official or otherwise, occurred that caused some devs and other XDA members to commonly believe that there won't ever be an official GB release for the Vibrant..."
If you wanna stay on Froyo go for Trigger 3.3, it's perfection.

First off wrong place to be posting this. It belongs in the Q&A thread. Personal pref. but i would go with stable cm7 with the latest HL Glitch kernel.

take a look at the Vibrant Bible:

you will find links and all kind of good and useful information about this fantastic phone.
I flash a rom almost every other day and in my honest opinion bionix roms are the most stable and perfect daily driver roms period! Make sure you educate yourself before doing anything and also have the nescesary software to save your ass in case you F-up.
