[Q] New to Thunderbolt, what ROM?? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am coming over from Tmobile...I have had the Nexus 1, G2, Mytouch4g, and G2x all rooted with custom roms. I see the Thunderbold has a ton of Gingerbread ROMS...Any advice?? Pro's/Con's???

wow, guess there is not that many Thunderbolt folks here....Over in the G2x forums Q's get answered pretty quick...

You're not getting responses because there are a zillion threads like this already. Just read the rom features, look at the screenshots & pick one. If it fits your style, stick with it. If not, try another. Your first step should be deciding if you want Sense or no Sense, then go from there.

I don't run GB because of the buggyness of it, but you GBRemix seems to be a good choice.

then you might want to go a froyo route. Das BAMF remix is very popular. I'm running the stripped (non-sense) version right now.

Then go with a Froyo-based rom. More battery & less bugs

[Q] ROM Question: Which is the ABSOLUTE fastest?

I need to narrow down my search for the fastest Eris ROM available as I use my Eris for work and speed is more important to me than beauty (but if both can be accomplished, then by all means... ) Anyway, any suggestions? Also, along the same line, will 2.1, 2.2, or 2.3 ROMs be quickest (as well as Sense-based vs. Non-Sense-based)? I have tried a few ROMs, but am looking to your opinion so that I don't wind up testing every ROM . Also, I have bought LauncherPro Plus and Beautiful Widgets, so Sense widgets aren't a huge deal to me. Thanks!

It's impossible to say - everybody's mix of apps is different, and what one person reports as faster another may report as slower. It's really not that hard to flash a few ROMs and try them out for a while and see what works best for you.

Pretty much this. But I will say, Gingerbread ROMs are supposed to be the fastest, and non-Sense should be faster than Sense any day.
KaosFroyo was insane when i was there, but now i use the Gingerbread rom that is supposedly a port of CM7 which has been running pretty good for me
None sense Gingerbread roms definitely from my experience are the quickest I've tried.

I would generally agree that non-sense/gb roms are going to be your best bet. KaosFroyo, may be a good route to go; especially if you need stability, or anything aosp, and without any bloat.... You may also play around with using different launchers too, as they can effect the speed, stability, and general feel of any rom. I like LP, but others are sleeker and smoother. There are also tons of Benchmark tests on the market that can be used if you want to see numbers- but I agree that your mix of apps/rom/launcher/ and intended use will greatly influence what fits you best.
And anything that is fast already can be overclocked..... setcpu has some great advanced settings that can help you find a balance of speed/battery useage (unless you have a charger/usb charger nearby in your line of work).

I'm running v22 GingerTazz BTW, and was on KaosFroyo before that... all slightly overclocked.
like i said, Kaos was an excellent dev and worked Froyo for all its money when he was around. KaosFroyo is by far the most stable rom around
Agree with Darca about non-Sense Gingerbread ROMs. I'm using GSB 3.1 (and have used KaosFroyo) and think it's the best hands down.

Flex's Stock Rooted ROM VS. Fresh ROM

hey everyone. so i'm torn between these two great ROMS. in your opinion, which ROM is fastest, smoothest, and has the best battery life? thanks!
Viper's ROM is the best one so far IMO. Battery life is RIDICULOUS! Haven't plugged it in 12+ hours and I still have 70% left.
Im favoring flex's been running for a few days and loving it. My advice is try them both and see which one fits yiur needs best. Each users results vary so whats good for someone wont be good for another. So try them out and see which one suits your needs best.

Hahaha well OP, looks like no one is reading your question.
"Which is better, A or B?"
"C!"
"D!"
Personally, I'm in a similar position as you. I already tried Flex's, and am thinking of trying out Fresh with the new update.
Off topic: regardless of which I have over the next week or so, I believe I'll be on ViperROM after he unleashes his huge surprise he is teasing us about in his thread!

Try looking at the development section. If you want sense I'd recommend viperrez. I if you don't then use neomax. Also the cm9 and aokp roms are awesome but they are beta not completely working yet

Depends on if you like sense or de-sensed roms.
For sense I like CONROM and the OTA ICS plus rom from micromod777.
For de-sensed I like both of Neo's roms (fast as hell) or CONROM with the desense option in aroma installer.

For some reason I experienced a lot of lagginess with neos roms although I liked them a lot so I switched back to ViperRez I know benchmarks mean nothing but I couldn't break 5000 with neomax (antutu) and on viperrez I get a constant 6800 :what:

Big fan of Neo's latest Adrenaline here, including battery life, it also appears smoother than 1.6 and below but it does appear to be more sluggish than Venom. Having said that however my battery life with the Venom rom was horrible and my phone heated up a lot..never have the latter issue with Neo's rom or Nils' Business Sense 3.6 v5.7 rom for that matter (highly recommend giving that a shot too)
I highly recommend using ElipticRez by hawknest

and i now bring you PAC 4.4.2 which so far has no major issues that i could find...there is a few things you can do to improve your battery life...but some cause slight decrease in perforance...partially why the rez isnt my main device anymore either...but it isnt stopping me from leaving its further developement anytime soon...ill stay with it till it simply cant work at all anymore
If you really like Sense, and don't care that is still ICS, consider EclipticRez ReVamped v9... it is rock solid and battery life is respectable to great for the Rezound. GSM ROM?
Not sure if I should start a new thread or add to this one.... I'd appreciate any recommendations on the best ROM to use would be on the Rezound with AT&T. I'm currently on Neo's Tachyon 1.2 and I like it a lot, but when I've tried it with a GSM SIM previously I couldn't get outgoing SMS to work.

I know that the best ROM would be based on personal preference. What I'm looking for is the most fully functional ROM. I've been trying different ROMs but I work so much I don't have the time I used to. Any insight is welcome and greatly appreciated.

In my humble opinion, if your talking about the most features it would be the Charmaleon ROM, your able to theme quite a few things because of a tweak add-on he has in the rom. It's on the third page of ROM developement.

I'll second ViperRom or MeanROM, if you're looking at ICS ROM's. With JB ROM's the verdict is still out, but Viper's base JB ROM works pretty well, as does MeanBean (the ROM I'm currently running). Not to say these are by any means the best, just a handful of the few I've tried since coming to the EVO LTE. It's all subjective, really, since what's best for one user may not be best for another.

Thanks for the input. I want to stick with a JB ROM but I travel so much with my job to places with horrible reception or Hotels with no wi-fi and then I get fc's or I start to loose certain functions and I have to go back to an older ROM. I think I'm going to designate a memory card to keep a few good ROMs on when I travel to nip it. I haven't tried Viper's base. I think that'll be my next ROM.

I'll put a third vote in for the Mean series. I've tried MIUI and CM10 recently, but I always end up coming back to the beauty of Sense. The dev on MeanRom and MeanBean is very active and has made it very simple to update to his newest version with an OTA updater.
That said, I am currently checking out the rEVOLTEd rom, with JB. I was particularly interested in how the dev used the AOSP vanilla version of Recent Apps switcher rather than the Sense version... The camcorder is not currently working, but it should be fixed in the next version. Other than that, it seems to be running very well.
Overall, there really are some great options out there for JB and ICS Roms.

Just want to say thanks to everyone who gave their opinions and input in this thread. I flashed Mean Bean and loved it. Problem was I flashed it wrong. Didn't upgrade to 3.15 firmware first. In the process of trying to do that I bricked, fixed, unlocked/ unrooted, upgraded, unlocked, rooted, and finally reflashed Mean Bean. I haven't had this much fun in a long time. I've been so use to dropping roms on a sd and flashing I forgot one of the most important things about XDA. READ Instructions before flashing new roms. Thanks again to everyone who commented and gave advice. You helped me find exactly what I was looking for.

You Sir are absolutely correct. My favorite so far.
I tried both meanbean and stock w/ goodies and I really like the fluidity of meanbean. However, the battery life seemed like it was better on stock w/ goodies. I also used rom cleaner w/ the no-sense option on both of the roms so i'm not sure if that contributed to better speed or battery life. I decided to stick w/ meanbean! no fc or errors for me and everythings been running great!

I tried android revolution hd and I love it. I think I'm gonna stick with it.
I've been running ARHD for the last couple days and I have to say that surprisingly enough, the AT&T stock ROM seems faster (as in: more responsive) to me.
Any other thoughts on this? I'd also like to add in the Renovate ROM to the discussion as well.
I'm running trickdroid and I like it much better. I have used ARHD as a daily driver too so my opinion comes with experience in both ROMs, it is still obviously an opinion, buy I prefer to customize and tweak my ROMs... You might as well stick to stock if you're gonna go with ARHD since it is just an optimised stock. If you're looking for custom, trickdroid is the way to go...

I've been running ARHD the past few hours, and so far I agree 100% with your views on it. It's a stable, responsive and clean ROM though.
I installed ARHD 7.1 today and the only niggle I have is that voice dialing on Bluetooth is not as good - different voice and different procedure.
I really like renovate. You download the ROM once on your phone and with any update, it just downloads the changed files. You can do all this on your phone. Have never seen anything like this before. It is not all automatic though, you have to enter some commands in terminal emulator. It also has NFC on when phone is off, so I don't have to turn the phone on to have it read tectiles.
so I have been using this ROM called Maximus7 5.0.0 for sense 5 and I absolutely love it. In my opinion it is the closest to stock ROM from the other Roms that I have tried out so far. It also let's you do OTA updates.

I agree. There are some updates in the newest International base that aren't in the AT&T stock base tho. That's what I meant mostly.

I'll agree, arhd is far better then stock. that's all I've been running. I've tried cleanrom and the rest of the international roms. I just keep coming back to arhd.

I have been using Maximus7 for a couple of weeks and honestly I can't tell the difference between ARHD and Maximus7 the only difference is that Maximus7 let's you do OTA updates and ARHD doesn't.

ARHD is the way to go.I've used Trickdroid and the customization is great but the battery life was killing me.
ARHD is solid and great battery wise for now till CM comes out.

I've been playing with the AT&T install of ARHD 9.0 for a few days (haven't had the chance to upgrade to 9.1 yet). My impression is that it's a bit faster than stock (not sure by how much, but feels "zippier" to me).
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the Sense UI so a ROM like this which provides a "fairly close to stock experience" was what I was looking for. It's not perfect (I understand that the WiFi password issue was fixed in 9.1 though), but it's very good. The only little thing that I haven't been able to find in 9.0 as of yet is the LinkedIn Blinkfeed connector... I know that Blinkfeed isn't something that everybody necessarily loves, but I do find it handy to have something to look at when waiting in line for a few minutes or even glancing at the screen when stopped at a red light. (Any suggestions on what I need to do to get the LinkedIn connector up and running again would be appreciated.)
Just out of curiousity, I also downloaded TrickDroid and have been waiting to try it out. Maybe I'll install that today and play around with it for a bit too, now that ARHD has set the standard for me and can be used as a point of reference.
