i would also bump this.. i have been looking everywhere.. found many guides .. have tried them ..buit it always gives some errors , etc etc.. couldnt find any guide specifcally for samsung galaxy s2 .. hope someone (devs) if they have time could make one ..
edit
----
saw the above post..i have seen that .. will give it a go
First you post in the right place - NOT dev area. This is hardly a cutting edge dev question
Second, start reading EVERYTHING you can find. Little is unique about SGS2. Most is same as any other phone.
Third, build enough trust in yourself to flash your own phone with something you make... The important bit
Hey Thanks Meter 1192.
I was wondering if you can teach me or show me a little bit how to create own custom firmware if you have time and are willing to help.
Thank's

firstly if you want to know what rom is best use the search button in the forum and see other threads with the same question that you have..reason im saying that alot of people ask the same question so you could read what they have posted and what people suggested to them..also read the following link and that would give a good idea about rooting

Welcome to the Galaxy SII community.
Obviously you did a search to find this site. Would it not have been a good idea to use the Search within this site to see if your question had already been answered already? This search would have came up with the same answer to the 'which ROM is the best' - there is no such thing. There are newer versions of the stock (Samasung) ROM you have. There are also customised ROMs available, these are designed to suit the requirements of the person who built them -performance, style, battery life, etc. It is the equivlent of asking, what is the best food - it is all down to personal taste.
My advise is to play around with your phone and get to know it. Have a good read around here so you are more informed. Try out an updated stock rom. Then by all means try out different custom roms to see which one is the best for you (don't forget to really read up before you do anything).
I would say the Dungeon is the best witch room, but only if it has an en-suite caldron.
Hey guys, this is my first post, so correct me if im in the wrong place!
So i've had my Samsung galaxy SII (GT-I9100) for about 3 months now, and i only found out about root probably 1 week ago! haha
So i have rooted my Galaxy with CF-Root, off xwkk2 kernal (link below), on Gingerbread 2.3.6 and i was wondering what i should do with it? I have tried a few custom roms, none of which seem to want to stay working, so do you guys have any good ones i should check out?
Also, i was wondering if anyone can point me towards a list of all root apps, as i am interested in more than just Titanium Backup (AMAZING) and the like.
Oh, and if you guys could tell me both how to "Thank" someone on the forums, and even how to install anything you have suggested, i will love you forever
Thanks a lot guys,
Tangent5
Ps Thank you everyone on this site who has helped me with boot problems, and special thanks to Chainfire!

A google of "android root apps" gives numerous lists.
Without knowing which custom ROMs you've tried, why they didn't work for you and how you use your phone, it's very difficult to recommend you anything.
You rooted thanks to doing your research and reading here, the same method will help you with installation queries etc. Check the links in my sig.
This thread is a good one if you're wanting to freeze/remove 'bloat' from your phone (I recommend freezing rather than uninstalling outright) using Titanium.
thanks a lot guys! deleted loads of bloatware
Oh and i tried the resurrectionv1.0_remix, it was good, but it didnt come with CWM, so i have to unroot then re-root to get everything fixed, as all recovery i tried went mad
So is there any other roms? I've heard DARKYROM is good, but i cant seem to find the best place to dl, and i cant really be bothered if there are some you can recommend
thanks again, sorry but how do i thank you /give your post karma?
No. Many people don't do recommendations for roms/kernels (I don't anyways).
Because everyone's phone is setup differently, everyone uses their phone differently & phones come out of the factory slightly different component-wise. Chances are you wouldn't have the same experience of a rom or kernel than me for those reasons.
Given how easy it is to backup/restore with CWM, I recommend having a look at the threads devoted to different roms in the development forum, usually reading the first page & the last 10/20 will give you a fair guide to the features/pluses/minuses & other users experience with the rom/kernel.
Then try out as many roms as you need to until you find one you like.
Edit to add - Also, this thread is a great source of info for Aus SGS2 users.

very stable...
best way to get to know your phone is break it few times lol
this is what i did in 1 - 2 months when i bought my SGS2
flash alot of things > play around with tweaks/mods > soft bricked it twice > settled down onto what i found to be best

In that case be aware that root custom roms or rom counter above zero void warranty .

Guys at the first sorry for my bad english.
My uncle has bring me a Samsung Galaxy S2 i777 (AT&T) 1 weeks ago.I'm living in Turkey so phone was unlocked. There was a rom on the phone ([email protected]).I wanted to turn the phone the original firmware...
And i read some Turkish forums and i downloaded an original ICS firmware (4.0.3) for 'Galaxy S2 i9100' (look at the problem 1). And then when its loaded i have open my phone. There was 2 buttons are not working from LED (Back and Search). And then i have tried to install a lot of firmwares , Roms , kernels.. A lot of i777 Firmwares giving fail when installing but i9100 firmwares are not giving fail(Look at the problem 1).When i install a i9100 firmware i can't speak with phone.(Look at problem 2). And my problems :
1) I wasn't know my phone is an i777 because on the start screen there is writes i9100. When i take of the battery i have seen the model number. (i777) Why there is writing i9100 on the start screen ?
2) I can't speak with my phone. When i call someone i cant hear dial tone but their phones are ringing. And when they open the phone i cant hear their voice. What can i do ?
3)And the baseband number. On the Phone Information there is writing my baseband number i9100. How i can change it ?
Guys anyone can help me ?
Delete: I hope he got the help in General sec.
You posted this twice in two different sections. Read and search. Google will give u a lot of helpful information regarding what u need to do, I would suggest reading a lot more on the subject before attempting this type of thing again. Don't wanna hard brick good luck, happy flashing.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I'm usually just using the search engines to look up information.
OP, why on earth you post more than once for the same content
Sigh!!!

Hi, save ur tears, friend. u havn't really turned it into a brick. i think
First things first, see if u can bring it back to stock (the way it was shipped new for a USA model)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659 whole post is real useful but skip to 2a. if u just want to start flashing...
or this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
once you are able to do that, read up lots on how to flash, what modem to use etc,
Good guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1511838
and come back here & post if you come up w/ specific problems or questions once it's been turned to "stock" (factory fresh condition)
it's difficult to trouble shoot if we don't exactly know what u have done to your phone
best of luck!
Hi to everyone!
I am new here but I have been on the i9000 forums for the last year and more.
My actual i9000 is quite hacked and I am going to get a i9300 with my phone provider next week.
I would like to understand just a few things to know if I'll be in some quite similar situation of hacking or if the i9300 is in some how different from i9000.
My questions are:
What are the differences between the two forums Galaxy S III Android Development and Galaxy S III Original Android Development ???
How do I go into Download and Recovery mode?
About ROOTING the i9300... Is there some website or Windows app and does that or must I flash something like a new kernel or what?
Is there a way to get some sound improvement for better sound and more volume as it was for i9000 with the Voodoo hack?
Is it possible to flash only a new kernel that gives root privileges, sound improvements and some other cool things? I ask this because I really don't know if I'll go for a complete ROM flashbecause I am a little bit tired in complete hackings
As the phone not bought by my self but related to a phone contract I need to be able to revert back to stock rom/kernel if the phone needs to go back to shop for something, so please tell me where to get stock firmwares and if I need some particular Windows app or know some particular procedure on how to flash.
I hope to have answers from you becuase I really need to understand what is having a i9300 not hacked alot coming from a i9000 that was really hack alot.

Hello, this is my first time posting on here.
I have an old Galaxy S3, USA version, T-mobile, SGH-T999. I was wondering how to update it to make it usable? From what I've read online the best way is to root and put in a custom ROM. The problem I'm having is finding the latest ROMs. Is there any way to find the latest official ROMs for the phone? And if I download an unofficial one, how can I know which will run well on my phone? Do I just simply get the latest unofficial ROM?
Lastly, if any one has any step by step guide or video on how to root and install ROMs it would be much appreciated as I've never done something like this before. Sorry if this has been posted before, I'm new to this site and have been having trouble navigating and searching old posts.
Thank you.

I suspect the reason that you haven't gotten any responses in the last day or so is that you are on the wrong part of the Forum! This is the area for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 9.7" Tablet, not the Galaxy S3 Smartphone.
You might want to take a look over here for the T-Mobile S3.
Hope that helps clear things up
