[Q] Heavy Battery Drain - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi!, Yesterday i installed the last version of CyanogenMod 6.5.4, and i have 2
mayor problems with this rom but i don'y know if am doing something wrong.
This are the steps i followed:
Root: Gingerbreak
Recovery ClockworkMod 3.1.0.0 installed with Rom Manager
Then manually Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik Cache & Battery
Flashed Cyanogen Mod without formatting mem card... just plain
Rebooted
Installed some Google Apps
Everything fine at this point.
Next the problems:
1.- After 2 hour of standby the battery drops 20% and i don't have
3rd party apps running. All data is turned off, only 2G enabled.
2.- Bluetooth don't work, i can't send o receive any file, my computer can't see my phone.
Previusly i made a backup of some apps and configurations with Titanium Backup and i restored apps and a config of bluetooth but the restore freezes
and i use to force close the app. This could be the config that mess up the
bluetooh?
Any idea how to resolve this problems, i love this rom but i can't live with
this huge preblems. I am new, and any help would be great.
Btw: Actually i'm using a new kernel (franco's v17 BFS version) hopping this can fix the battery life problem.
Thanks in advance !!!

Hei mate, read this see if it applies to you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14950218&postcount=3205

Thanks for your time & help. I readed that post and by default since i installed
the rom i disabled all kind of sync, so maybe it's another thing, but thanks anyway!!!

if the rom has a battery graph included in Settings > Applications > Battery use then check it out and see if the "Awake" matches the "Screen on".
Those 2 have to be identical, if not, then something is keeping your phone awake even when the screen is off. All you have to do is uninstall/disable one thing after another until you see they start being identical.

Wow! too fast response, thanks
Yeah! you right those 2 are identical, none is bigger than the other, btw after flashed
the new kernel, it apperars to be stable it drains 2 and a half % after 2-3 hours. You think this number are good for this standby period?

Charge till 100% again wipe battery again.. see any difference , it take 24 or 48 to have a nice battery after a wipe batt stat.

It's say thats the superior limit on which you can go. Some say 1% battery drain / hour is totally normal but nothing above.
I tend to disagree and I'm not satisfied if its more than 0.6% / hour. However, 1% should be good for normal usage (meaning you have access to the charger everyday).
I only rarely have access to the charger, spend a lot of time hiking and need it to be really really low.
I've spent so much time identifying battery drains that I think just buying a solar charger would have been more productive for me.

Yeah! i made that and now i have a better battery life, thanks everyone for your
usefull advice!
Just one more thing... Any idea about my bluetooth problem?... it's a Rom problem
or my mistake?

Mine drains 1% per 2 hours on idle. Dunno if it's good or not

Need Help With GSB v2.4

Hello everyone! I would have posted this in the actual GSB thread but I don't seem to have the correct privileges yet so I am posting here instead.
First off, I just want to thank workshed for his awesome work. I really do love the ROM and everything about it. However, I have a few small issues with it that I can't seem to figure out.
First off, my battery life is terrible. Take yesterday for example. I used my phone probably twice to send some texts in the morning and to check the time. Charged it throughout the night and pulled it off the charger when I woke up and began my day. Within two hours, my phones battery was down to 75%. Five hours later, it was completely dead and I hadn't even used it.
My second issue is with settings. For some reason, when I reboot, some of my setting don't get saved. The one thing that really bothers me is the keyboard. I have Swype installed and every time the phone shuts off, I have to go into settings and re-enable Swype as my keyboard. It is just a hassle and is kind of frustrating, especially when I forget to do and then go to send a message.
Other than those two issues, I absolutely love the ROM and wouldn't change it for anything else. Anyone have any suggestions for what I can do about my few issues?

Recharge it until you get a green light. Restart the phone in Recovery, go to the Wipe menu, and wipe the battery stats (I'd keep the phone on power for this.) Restart the phone, pull the power and use as you normally would. Ignore anybody who tells you that you must run the battery down until the phone shuts itself off - this is really not great for the battery (though once a month or so isn't bad), and really isn't necessary for the battery calculations to reset themselves with new usage stats. The longer you can go the better, but it's not necessary to change your phone usage habits so that you have a completely discharged phone.

Thank you for that information, I shall try it out and see if it helps!
I also forget to mention one more error. Whenever I boot up the phone, my Facebook account sets itself to not sync and I lose all my contact pictures. I then have to open the Facebook application and set it to sync again.
EDIT:
Sorry, didn't realize it was a double post!
My battery life is similar to the OP's. I can make it through the day, but since I am ususally down to about 60% by one or two pm (from 6 or 7 am) I prefer a mid-day charge just to make sure I can last through the evening.
I just flashed [ROM][3/22/2011] GSB v2.2 | GingerBread 2.3.3 [CM7.0.0 RC2 NIGHTLY] a few days ago and it has been running great, but I noticed that my green light (battery fully charged) now comes on @ 90%.
Before it would not turn from amber to green till 100%. Should I wipe battery stats?
Under battery use (sry no screenies) there is nothing unusual:
Display @57%, everything else under 10%.
But when I checked Spare Parts I noticed that my little Eris won't sleep!
It looks like Android system is the culprit, keeping a partial wake lock.
Battery History in Spare Parts:
Other Usage - Since last unplugged
Running 100%
Screen on 13.2%
Wifi on 100%
Wifi running 91.6%
Partial wake usage - Since last unplugged
Android System almost a full blue bar, all other apps minimal bars
The phone has more or less been sitting at my desk at work in wifi with light usage.
Anyone have any idea why Android System is trying to eat my battery?
i had battery problems on gsb its a great rom. i switch to ginger tazz. with tazz's rom i get more then 20hrs b4 it says to connect charger thats with the display on about 4 hours and wifi on and running facebook tapatalk calls texts and whatever i think of doing.
I'm running GSB 2.5 CM RC 4 and I now have been able to get 25 hours with 70% of battery left. I used to be able to get maybe 24 hours before it died. Now your mileage may vary but this is what I do. I removed Task Killer which was eating a bunch or the battery and after a visit to Amazon's app market their little app was running all the time along with Weather Bug so both of them are now gone. and finally I turned off auto sync ( I can check my email when ever I want and it takes a lot less battery). By turning off auto sync that was what really made the difference for me. Of course there are many things you can do but running WiFi will kill your battery faster than 3g (or at least it does on mine) and I have the screen brightness set at 18. Just a note I leave BT and GPS on all the time when they are not being used an are in standby their usage is quit small.
What works for you would depend on if you want your email pushed to you all the time and if you have to have your WiFi on instead of 3g.
Again it's just my observations for my phone.
Really you should just do the first suggestion and recalibrate your battery.
Also if you read closely in workshed's log, he specifically said to a full wipe not only formatting external memory but also doing a dalvik/cache wipe. You may as well also wipe the battery stats while you're at it.
Personally I'm running GSB 2.5 and it's simply amazing. 60% of the battery gets me from wake-up alarm to nighttime charge.
Hope you figure it out!
After I installed GSB 2.5, my battery also seems to be rapidly discharging. Takes less than an hour of no use, wifi-on to drop from 100% to ~80%. I did a full discharge calibration on my battery as soon as I flashed to this GSB 2.5
I will attempt the simple batt stat wipe at 100% and see if that helps at all. I'll let you guys know.

Q Battery usage questions, maybe bad phone?

hi iguys,
i have some questions about the sgs 2
i got it since a few weeks and everything was fine, great battery life up to 17 hours zith light/ normal use.
i tried to flash cwm isecure kernel to flash roms, all went fine
then i found out rom manager is not yet fully compatible with sgs2
so i flashed back to stock firmware, now my battery life really sucks
with little use i can hardly get 6 or 7 hours out of it
and most of the time its just standby
i have everything off bluetooth, gps, wifi, display set to 10 percent, background sync
the only thing i have on is 3g connection..
i have better battery stats installed
and i see these 2 things always 100 percent full.
suspend/events
no matter what, theres no app draining because when i wipe everything to factory settings or through recovery, the drain remains, even with 3g off
also when i check my normal battery history,
i see 2 times android system in the stats, doesnt one need to say android os ? instead of two times system?
sorry if this is a double post, but i searched and couldnt find something similar then this.
hope you can help

You have BBS installed, good. Don't see under Processes but see under Partial Wakelocks, check which apps and processes are taking the max time. Something on background is definitely going on.

Nobody else here to help me ?
better battery stats shows me nothing like an app or process
thats really going crazy..
i really have no clue what i did wrong to get this terrible battery life
hmm i really don't get why though, coz I have an awesome battery life with my S2, i got at least 2 days, with alot of calls n txts in between. I use it for my music player in the car as well, n i travel quite alot.
tried recalibrating the batter?

yes i tried, i also tried to wipe battery bin file through cwm, also with no succes,
my phone is charging now, so i am going to check how the battery life is with CM7 or another rom.
do you have 3g on all the time ?
i also have a question about the connections options, do you have an option to only use 2g ? in stock rom, i dont, i remember having it on my galaxy mini
Update, the new battery i got yesterday seem to have no change in my dramatic battery life,
i flashed CM7 build 38 last night,
and still the same, it drains like hell!

[Q] Fishy battery life

Hello all,
I bought the Atrix around 6 months ago and I have always had the same problem I'm about to describe. First I should mention that I used to have a stock rom and stock radio (77.15) until a couple of weeks ago when I flashed Cyanogenmod and radio 77.30p, yet the problem is present in both configurations.
My problem is as follows: my battery life is mediocre. Without using the phone very heavly, I get around 7-8 hours until it shuts off. Since day one I've tried many different fixes to see if the battery improved without success. Now here's the fishy part: for whatever reason, every time I make a full wipe (when I was using stock I did it from the "reset to factory defaults" option, now I do a full wipe on recovery) the battery lasts an insanely amount of time, something like 24 hours or more.
Here's how it usually works for me: I do the wipe, I boot my phone and configure my accounts, the phone syncs and installs the apps I usually use. Like I said, that day the battery will last forever, last time I've tried this I reached around 31 hours before I plugged the phone back on, and it was around 17% still. Now, the next day, without installing any new app or using the phone for nothing different, I go right back to the mediocre battery life. For example, it just went from full charge to 88% for just 10 minutes of browsing the net on wifi, not even using 3G.
Like I said, this happened with stock ROM and now with Cyanogenmod regardless of the radio I'm using. I have calibrated the battery a million times, I've tried with Watchdog which didn't show nothing, the same with Better Battery Stats. I really need some suggestions on what to try because it irritates me that the battery is dropping so much with such a light use.
Thanks!
I'm getting also quite short battery life with CM7. I'm wondering what the reason could be. It gets down with 15% for just 5 hours without any phone calls. I have just whatsapp and email checking every hour. No other resource hungry applications. With the stock ROM and the same usage I'm getting around three days ~ 72 hours.
Well in my case it's the same but with both stock and others roms. I suspect it's a software problem because I get normal battery life when I do a full wipe.
Did you try to revert back to unlocked bootloader.
What I found strange is that somehow the indicator doesn't show the ratio mAhercentage. On 85% battery the calibration battery shows charge 4030 mAh which is not 15% less than the full charge of 4200 mAh.
Well actually this problem has existed from before I unlocked the bootloader so I don't think that's the problem. And in my case the mah percentage is correct. It's like if somethings draining the battery that I can't find. Maybe is a problem with my carrier?
If the coverage is poor where you live then it is possible to get lower battery life than expected. Another solution is to revisit the application you use, try also to do a full wipe including formatting the internal memory card.
Go through this process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198333
You'll be good to go after that. Check also BetterBatteryStats here in xda, will show you what processes eat the battery.
Thanks but I've tried that when using the stock rom and it didn't help me. I think that solution is for a different problem as it's mainly to display the correct mah percentage, which is not exactly my problem. Also, CM7 already includes juggernaut fix.

Have you tried a different radio?
Yeah, like I said I had 77.15 at first and now I'm using 77.30
There's more radio's, check in General.
Ok, I flashed 77.36p and there was an improvement, I've unplugged the phone around 13 hours ago and I'm at 25%. Would you consider a good battery life for a light use? It's getting better but I saw many people crossing the 24 hour mark on their phones. Are there any other radio to try other than 77.15, .30 and .36 that would be worth it?
Do a full wipe in Fastboot & install Nottach's DarkSide and leave it with the stock kernel. I'm at 77% with 1hr 40 minutes screen time & 17,5 hrs standby..
P. S. I'm using the N_01.100.00R radio. Am in Germany, though on an at&t phone. Best radio so far.
Anywhere from 13-20 hours is fine but keep in mind it's all dependent on what's on your phone. If u have a bunch of apps pulling data from the internet or something ....I mean its all dependent on your phone setup.

ICS Passion v11 battery life is horrible for me

I was running bionix from before I decided to switch. I flashed back to stock via Odin and flashed to ICS Passion v11. It's an excellent ROM but my battery life is abysmal. Just texting for 5 mins drains it about 8%. I have to charge my phone 3x a day in order to keep it alive. Really like this rom so does anyone have suggestions on what to tweak or disable to fix this?

Yeah same for me.. I had to buy the Samsung Galaxy Epic 4g 1800mAh battery.. It solved my problem. You can get one on amazon for like 20 bucks. It's totally worth it. For some reason the 1500mAh battery gets random drains on this ROM
It's not just this ROM. I have noticed it on all the ICS Roms. Some of the apps are not configured properly for ICS yet, thus the battery drain. When you re-install your apps using Titanium Backup try not restoring data.
Bump for possible solutions. The new battery is a good idea. I hear so many people claiming battery life is superb and mine is far from it. I never restored apps with titanium backup either. Everything was clean slate
When I was running ics, i had a few times where my phone would not deep sleep. I just reinstalled and it seemed to correct it.

When I first installed Passion V11 my first full charge only got me about 8 hours of use. I installed BetterbatteryStats and CPU Spy, and Battery Monitor Widget. I looked at the logs and saw that Beautiful Widgets was causing alarms and kernel wakelocks almost non-stop. After identifying the problem app and uninstalling it, my phone still has 70% battery with 24 hours of use.
You guys just need an 1800 mAH battery. The thing can last me a day and a half with no charge (assuming I put it in airplane mode at night). You can find it for $10-20 on Amazon or eBay.
To get best battery life all you need to do is "Charge Cycles"
For ICS Passion v8,
Charge Cycle means completely charging your phone too 100%, reboot and LET IT DRAIN UPTO 0%
Now charge it to 100% again without interuption and then reboot.
This is one/first charge cycle. Also get unused toggles off and remove unused widgets.
I would add that you need to go into Clockwork Mod manager by rebooting your phone, selecting advanced, wipe battery stats, repeat after drain to 0 and recharge to 100%

[Q] Battery Draining No Matter What I Shut Off... Why?

Hello,
I wanted to get your guys opinion as I believe my phone may have turned defective and I really don't want to go down the Warranty Route as I'll loose the phone for weeks. And willing to try anything suggested.
So here's the problem:
Battery Draining at very high rates. On stock battery, I am draining about 12% an hour, after 6 or so hours my 15% battery capacity left warning turns on. I figured it was the battery, so bought a double capacity 4200mAh Hyperion Battery. Now my battery drain is at 6% an hour (which is equivalent to the factory battery considering the double capacity).
I am currently on XXELKC 4.1.2 Stock ROM. When I first noticed the problem, I was on 4.1.1. Figured I would ODIN, Wipe all cache's, and start clean. This has made no affect on battery life.
Here's what I've tried:
- 4.1.1, 4.1.2 Stock ROMs from Wipe - High Drain
- Airplane Mode with Location Services Disabled - High Drain, but 4.5% an Hour instead of 6% an Hour.
- Disabled all Samsung Apps - seemed to have little impact
- Disabling Google Now has made zero impact on battery life.
- 4.1.1 BBS revealed nothing - may need to try again on 4.1.2
Any ideas? Or is this sounding like the phone? Is it possible after a wipe the phone, when I re-enter my Google Credentials it is restoring some data which is defunct and causing high drain?
Note: Screen shots are with the double capacity battery taken right after a clean Odin upgrade to 4.1.2. Only ran Android Activation and thats it.
It looks like your phone isnt going to sleep properly. Try a custom rom/kernel.
Have you done a full whipe ?? If not, do so, and don't forget to make a back up first. It worked for me !

I had similar issues, I factory reset worked, and I also download rescan media root app to disable the media scanner which was my main battery killer.
WHen you do the factory reset make sure your phone is connected to the internet, so it will prompt google to store the apps you have and remote install when you sign back into the phone.
I have performed a full wipe but that had minor impact on battery life but I wounder if the Google Restore possibly restored an invalid setting. I will try this again without entering my credentials and see if there is a link with a restored setting. I will have to give the rescan media app a try as well.

Any specific kernel in mind. From what I've been reading no kernel seemed to stand up to magically solve battery issues without voltage drop or cutting services like Google now from the rom.

I have attached a run with BBS for 1 hour. Nothing is really standing out. The phone was in deep sleep for all but 2 minutes. I did have Google Now and Location Services Disabled as that was eating away an impressive 10 minutes / hour from deep sleep. But my battery life only increased from 6% an hour to 4.5% an hour. An improvement but weak IMO considering the larger battery.

I once had that kinda issue too
What I did was Factory Reset and that did the trick for me
How about trying the app CPU sleeper?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I've had this issue before on the i9100 Galaxy S II, where it didn't seem to matter what I did, it chewed battery just as soon as I put my Google account back onto the handset. I believed it was caused by the Samsung calendar bug. So absolutely; try it without putting your Google account onto the device.
Also, your WiFi signal looks low, although this has less of a difference compared to having low mobile coverage...

Also leaving your Bluetooth On all the time is going to drain the battery pretty quickly.

its not wifi always on, my wifi is always on too and i lose 2% over an 8 hour standby period.
Its more what apps are using the wifi connection and waking the phone up, thats what the op needs to look into
I have to say ive had pretty bad battery lately aswell. If op doesnt mind I might post my bbs log tomorrow sometime

More information can't hurt. Post in and Maybee there is a correlation.
OK. So I went ahead with your suggestions and did the following
Factory Wipe again from Settings Menu
Went back to factory Samsung battery for consistency in reports to other users
Took out both my sim and sdcard to eliminate those possibilities
Put into airplane mode
Disabled a bunch of apps (ss on next post)
Still bismal results but better than before. 7 percent an hour drain. Attached all the files. Ideas? Google says phone is awake but bbs doesn't seem to shed any clues for me...
And here are the disabled and installed apps
your phone isnt going to sleep at all....something is keeping it awake..try a stock rom ( any will do) with full wipe. Dont restore anything with titanium backup. Disable auto sync on everything. Set wifi sleep policy to always. See if the problem persists.

That last run posted was stock 4.1.2 XXELKC firmware and Factory Wipe from Settings Menu. I also performed Wipe and Cache Wipe in the Bootloader (Power Up + Center + Power). All I did was install bbs and never put in Google or Samsung credentials and disabled some stock apps from running.
If your not referring to factory Wipe, can you please explain further? Thanks.
