[Q] comrom 2.0 and 2.1 Fascinate wont charge when off - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I fix this besides not turning the phone off to charge and keeping my fingers crossed that the battery wont go to zero and then I wont be able to charge battery?
4) what is your *specific* problem...not "omgz ma ****z be borked yo"...that helps no one and frankly is annoying to see...
When phone is turned off, I plug in charger get grey battery on screen with progession symbol but battery does not turn green. The phone actually locks up when power cord is plugged in and is stuck with the grey battery with progression symbol. Upon unplugging phone, grey battery symbol remains and I can not power phone up. Have to do a battery pull to restart phone. I went back to stock and went back to ED04 and this does not happen. Only with comrom 2.0 and now 2.1.Yes I have tried it with a different modem via odin and also flashed via CWM. Yes I have cleaned USB on phone aned chargers. Yes I have tried different chargers as well. I have a spare and the original. I have tried to charge it on laptop, desktop and wall outlet.I love this rom it makes my phone perfect. I hope you guys can figure out whats the cause of this issue cause I cant do stock froyo....lol ..no really I cant deal with its lameness!! SAVE ME!
1) post your exact setup (version of com rom, kernel, voltage settings, any other mods you did flash)
com rom 2.1
coming from com rom 2.0 - cr20_nomodem_nuts_shark odin -This version contains no modem/radio and imnuts' 05/31 PBJ -50mv nonvoodoo kernel
baseband ed04
build number ed01
2) did you wipe data/cache/davlik cache before flashing the rom
package did that in odin
3) what rom/setup did you flash com rom over
flashed 2.1 over 2.0
odin'd 2.0 over stock verizon froyo
5) ive said this 500 times already, but hey whats once more LOGCAT!!!!:

good day.

The battery stays on screen after unplugging?

Hello and thank you for replying and trying to help me figure this out. This occurs with or without lockscreens. I have used the MIUI screen but again as I said it will happen regardless of lockscreen.

Hello and thanks for replying. Yes the battery, grey with progression symbol stays on screen once unplugged. The phone is turned off, I plug in power cord, get the grey battery with progression symbol. Unplkug phone, still has grey battery symbol. Attempt to turn on phone, nothing. In order to power up, I have to do a battery pull. The screen essentially locks up once phone is off and power cord plugs in.

fixed!!
Thanks to JaeKar99!!! He did a brief review of my logcat and had me check some things but the final solution was changing kernel. Had to go from imnuts pbj to comavolt. Once that was done powered off phone, plugged in, and GREEN BATTERY! Thank you and hope this can help anyone else who has that issue.

Good to find this, I was having the same issue, was driving me up the wall as my kid had played one of his games on my phone and ran it down so far that it would nearly not power up. I had just enough juice to power it up, and get it plugged in and charging before it nearly shut off.

Phone won't turn on unless plugged in

My fascinate will not turn on unless its plugged in. Once it turns on it runs fine. If you hold the power button to turn it on it will show the battery icon, but will not turn on. If you plug it in it will turn on and work fine. It also thinks its in usb debugging all the time. not plugged into anything and it thinks its debugging.
Very strange.
Are you on Froyo? Using a rom? You might have the screen of death. If you have clockwork recovery you can turn it on that way.

My son's had the same thing, left the battery out for a day with the intention of returning it under warranty, put the battery back in and it fired right up without an issue, and havent had one yet.
Another question, are you using the stock battery or an after market job?
Without one of the tweaked kernels, the after market batteries wont work at all...
I forgot about this thread. My problem is when the phone is turned off, it will not turn on unless its plugged in. you push the power button and you see a picture of an empty battery. You plug it in and wait for the battery to turn green, and the phone will fire right up. Tried a new battery, and nothing. I am going to call vzw and see what they say.
Any resolution on this? I am having the exact same issue with my Infuse (AT&T).

Did you try a different battery?
At this point I would go stock and see if a verizon store will try another battery for you.
Good luck!

exact same problem as quoted above.
Some times the USB port gets gunk in it, try taking a piece of paper fold it a few times make sure the width is like half the size of the usb micro jack and slide it in to the usb port. fold it so it is snug but not tight move back and forth, do both top and bottom of the port but be careful on the thin side. basically your cleaning the contacts to remove and film.
Good Luck
If that still doesn't do the job chances are it's a hardware issue.

This is a very accurate description of the issue. I too am having the problem however it is on AT&T captivate. In my case, it only occurs when I am using a MIUI ROM. I have flashed multiple ROMS, both prior to and after discovering the problem and only have this issue when using MIUI ROM (Which is awesome in every other way). Two other things I would note. I have purchased another battery and it behaves identically, and MIUI drains batteries like a mother. Even swapping out a completely charged battery does not resolve the issue. Maybe someone brighter can explain how the phone "reads" the battery charge level while off.
does anyone have this problem with 'stock' phone?
I'm having the exact same issue with my Continuum. Thought maybe the USB port had issues, but it charges a battery just fine. It just won't acknowledge it's charged and turn on unless it's connected to a power source. Without a cable plugged in it just shows the big empty battery icon with a non-moving progress wheel on top of it for 3-4 seconds then screen goes black. With a cable plugged in it displays that, then changes to show the true charge of the battery at which time I can start up the phone. I restored my phone to factory defaults earlier today, but this problem persists.
Has anybody found any solution to this?

I have the same issue with my Samsung Epic. Anyone find a fix?
I also have this problem. I have discovered, however, that while I must plug the phone into a USB cable, that USB cable need not be plugged into a power source or anything at all. I can reliably (100% of the time) power up with a USB cable just laying in my drawer. I can also reliably (100% of the time) not power up without plugging into a USB cable.
In other news, I have also discovered that certain low-level actions tends to screw up lots of things. I can Odin just fine. I can flash ROMs, kernels, etc. just fine. However, I cannot restore a nandroid. Whenever I restore a nandroid, as best as I can tell, my partitioning gets all jacked up. When this happens, I can't do anything but boot into recovery (although once this happens, I can no longer flash ROMs) or Odin. Doing a full Odin flash restores functionality (in the sense that we all see where we need a USB cable to boot up), though. So ultimately, I think these phones have defective memory and that's what is ultimately causing this.
I bought this phone a couple days ago for $100 so I'm not out much (and can probably get most of that back even acknowledging the issues). Sure would have been nice for that person to have told me there were these issues. But oh well. C'est la vie!

I have the same problem, instead of switching off it just reboots, even if I power off from recovery.
What kernel are you using. I'm using Ninphetamine 2.0.5, with VillainROM 2.4.2, with Black Android Theme.
I'd rather not pull the battery, after seeing how flimsy the battery cover when I put it on first, I decided I'd try to avoid fiddling with it if at all possible

Doesn't work: it turns off, stays off for 2 seconds en boots up again.
I got same problem. Never flashed, never rooted. Got original 2.3.3.
I think I#ll try to flash it to fix it.
got a similar problem. probably not related. after unplugging it from a full charge, the phone kept making the "USB connected" sound. when turned off, it would do one of two things: display the big battery charging indicator while flashing the overheat indicator or turn itself back on.
while powered on, the battery icon will change from charging to not charging. I checked the USB socket and doesn't seem to be malfunctioning and there isn't anything shorting out the contacts. so far now, the battery level is at 87 percent after 48 minutes not in use. and now it's not making the sound anymore. I suppose the battery is malfunctioning.

I got a mixed-up thing of the issues on this topic..
When I take off the power socket, the symbol that shows "charging" remains there, and also, it is completely impossible to turn off the phone..
Whenever I turn it off, hard, or standard mode, it turns on again after 2 seconds..
And even if I remove the battery, I put it on again, and then it's back on in 3 sec....
Uh, and when I plug the charger in, when the battery is completely discharged, I have to take it out and back in , several times, before anything appears on screen, and even when it does, there is a temperature warning sign , and a yellow one which usually appear...
I'm getting very frustrated since I just paid 5000 nok (920 USD) for this phone..
And while I really begun to like Android, I guess I'll have to switch back to iPhone with a 4S, or to some better android device, since yes, the gs2 is cool , but I can't stand such issues, since I do run business things, and the phone is of vital importance for me, and not just a console/browsing crap.
Has anyone got any solution on this issue?
It would be crap if I had to send it to service, since it would take a lot of time, and I would have then to buy another temporary phone in the meanwhile...
PLEASE, HELP!
I had this problem, i cleaned the USB port out but that didn't stop it, but i think it helped. I then drained the battery to nothing and it has now stoppped. It's a battery problem, as it didn't switch off like it does when it hits low battery it just died. The battery readings were also inacurrate and every now and then it would do a weird thing like flashing it was charging, but it wasn't. I tried software etc.. and clean wipe before i tried the hardware, so it wasn't the rom i was running. I think the battery is on it's way out, so I've bought a new one.

Did this actually help? I had all the symptoms everyone has been describing and sent it to Samsung for repair. Their response was that the phone was stuck trying to download a PRL update, but as soon as I got the phone back from them and charged my battery to 100%, removing the phone from the charger caused everything to start again. I'm not entirely sure it is the battery, but have no other ideas.
USB charging port is dead.

Hi all.
Had similar problems about one month after getting my s2. I have unlocked sim card, rooted it and flashed some kernel, shyah i think. And left it with stock rom (Android 4.0). As it was under warranty i reverted completely to stock and took it to the carrier. After one day got it back but they said it had no problem. The fact is that i could in fact turn it off again. After a few days it was back so i flashed a custom rom (resurrection remix at that time) and never had it again.
Now I'm with alliancerom and apolo kernel for a few months and never had it again.

[Q] Stuck charging when not plugged in + can't boot + false data connection usb

Hey all ,
1. Plugging my phone into a wall charger brings up the USB options menu requesting a mode as if it were plugged into a computer (incorrect)
2. After unplugging the wall charger, the phone continues to indicate that it is charging (it isn't). It is stuck in charging mode.
2b. If the battery indicates it is fully charged, after unplugging the wall charger, the phone continues to display 100% indefinitely -- even as the battery drains. (Difficult to use).
3. If the phone is turned off in this state, it can't be turned back on! It loops between a blank screen, an round indicator as if about to charge, and a brief view of the empty battery indicator usually seen as a progress bar when charging in an off state. The power button is useless and the phone cannot be booted regardless of actual batter charge. Breaking this cycle requires plugging the phone into a actual charger, waiting for the progress indicator to begin working properly, then booting.
Once in any of the above states, I've been able to break out by booting to recovery mode, then selecting "Advanced" and "Wipe Battery Stats". This will solve the problem until I plug the phone in again (not long). This is equivalent to deleting the "/data/system/batterystats.bin" file.
Any ideas? This is really annoying!

Jason is right Odin back to stock, then if you are going to flash a GB rom, then flash the GB bootloader 1st then the rom, this will solve all your conflicts. Also, when restoring your apps from titanium, do not restore old system data just the apps, you will be error from there on.......... good luck
Thanks guys, I'm only interested in 2.2 Froyo due to GPS issues.
Any ideas other thank flashing back and forth? Any ideas as to the cause? I'd rather fix this without "reinstalling the OS". Much appreciated!
had that same issue on that rom. if you like team whiskey roms id suggest nero 5 w/voodoo. i kno i kno its a bit outdated but everything simply works on that rom with no bugs. gps works flawlessly as well
hope this helps you.

Can no longer charge phone

I cant charge my phone after flashing the speedmod RAGEMOD kernel and undervolting it. I already tried reverting back to stock voltages, even tried flashing over jeffery's speedmod kernel and finally back to the original T27 speedmod. None of them could make my battery charge via the phone using the wall charger or via USB. Instead when it plug it in it keeps telling me "Battery Disconnected" and battery status is shown as "AC" but "not charging". What gives? Wiping cache partition and recalibrating the battery doesnt help!
EDIT: Help please! Factory wipe didnt work either! Is there such a thing as a charging brick?
Flashing new ROM doesnt help either! Am i doomed?
Firstly, that's not Speedmod kernel by Hardcore, because Speedmod doesn't do OC and UV.
RAGEmod by RAvenGEr is based on Speedmod, however has OC + UV and extras added to it.
I wouldn't recommend using any kernels that has OC and UV, reason is, it's a phone, why are you even overclocking it? As for UV, the power savings might be worth it, but for a phone that might not receive calls or might freeze during heavy load doesn't appeal to me. (MIGHT is the keyword).
Which is probably why Hardcore doesn't include OC+UV in his kernels.
Anyways... In order to remove the settings, you will have to wipe the userdata partition. You can also flash to another kernel that ignores OC+UV settings. Ignoring the settings doesn't mean that settings are not there, so if you use another kernel that has OC+UV, that settings might cause you some grief. If wiping the settings still doesn't work, that means the RAGEmod might have modified charging current and it is time to claim warranty at the nearest Samsung Service Center.

Thanks for the reply.
Like i said, already flashed 2 other kernels (including the original speedmod by hardcore) and i did not touch any of the settings after that. And i have NEVER overclocked this phone before, only undervolt. I did a full wipe of my phone, but it didnt work, i am running TOUCH X KG5. So i did another full wipe and flashed Cognition 1.5 which comes with his own kernel i suppose. It worked at first, at least for a few minutes before the battery disconnected notification popped up again. To my disappointment, i tried plugging the phone in while it was turned off. And to my horror it showed the battery logo with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark on it. Meaning the phone is unable to charge even while its turned off. Ive no idea why and i have never heard of a "charge brick" on any phone before, and definitely not on the SGS2. Anyway isnt a full wipe and a flash of a new ROM supposed to erase and overwrite any previous OS files? Which means my old corrupted settings should have been gone by then.
I ended up using the USB jig i bought some weeks back, and it works fine. Right now im charging my phone via USB (not wall charger) and it seems to be charging like normal. Strangely enough, my phone seems to charge fine AT LEAST for now...

You could try flashing back to stock using odin and staring afresh before root, if you got it charging.
Otherwise this just sounds like your battery is fubar.

I tried both the stock original battery and a third party one I bought and they're both behaving the same way. I charged it a bit with the wall charger just before I left the house this morning, and all seems well though. Maybe the jig resets something else other than just the flash counter?
I'll try flashing back to stock tonight and see what happens. Thanks!

[Q] Vibrant not charging.

Alright so my Vibrant won't charge. I JUST recovered my phone from a brick, (I was having issues with the battery life on Slim Roms 4.0 compared to 3.9--in the middle of flashing back I accidently wiped my internal memory. As I was recovering it using Odin, my fat cat jumped on my bed and caught on my phone cord bricking it.) Flashed using Heimdall and was able to get my phone into working order.
Now, I placed Slim Roms 4.0 back on my phone initially after the unbricking to have something working on it, even though the battery life less than impressed me.
So I charged it like normal yesterday, got it to 100% and was fine and dandy with it working. (Still sucking up battery life like a vampire in a fat camp.)
So the update 4.1 went live yesterday, I flashed it immediately to that. The battery life was amazing! So I do the normal thing when I flash to a new ROM. Let it die completely before charging it completely. It's now dead and will not charge.
Symptoms;
I plugged in my normal cable for work (a cheap cable I purchased off of Ebay.) And up comes the round loading symbol. Followed by a darkening of the screen, followed by nothing.
One thing to note, is while it has it's loading circle on, the bottom buttons light up when I touch them.
My Steps;
-I attempted different USB ports since I charge through my work computer. No luck.
-I "borrowed" my co-workers USB cord and USB to wall plug. Attempted the new cable in the computer first. No luck.
-Plugged the borrowed USB into the wall charger. Same thing happens.
-Used my own cheapy cable in wall charger. Same thing.
-Took co-workers complete set and plugged it in in a different room. Nothing.
-Took out my battery, plugged in USB, placed battery back in. Nothing.
-Hold down the Vibrant buttons to get into Bootloader, it resets the loading circle and nothing more.
So now I'm sitting here wondering what to do. I do not have rubbing alcohol readily available, however since it charged to 100% yesterday I do not believe that is the issue, but I'd be willing to try if I had access.
Something you should know, I am using a Samsung Epic 4G battery in my phone.
-For those who might judge saying it is dumb, I have gotten 54 hours out of that battery on one ROM before, that is with texting, talking on the phone and installing apps. I'm fond of this thing, however I have my stock battery at home still.-
Any suggestions you guys have would be appreciated. I have tried things that I found on this forum and basic tech support to no avail. (I am at work so the things I can use are fairly limited. However cords are of no shortage.)
Alright, I unplugged my phone from being plugged into the wall charger for an hour and 3 minutes later it decides to turn itself on.. Not sure what's going on but I'm not going to complain.
So my question now is, can anyone explain this or help prevent this in the future?
From what I've heard draining a battery until it dies can damage it. But, I'm not an expert on that. It's possible that the battery needed more time to recover from the drain.

Really? I was always told it prolongs battery life. Now I need to research this! Thank you.

I had something similar happen when running lithium volt ROM. My battery completely died and the phone cut off (obviously.) I plugged it in the charger and it immediately tried to boot the phone up but it was bootlooping at the startup screen. I let it sit there for 20 minutes or so thinking maybe it is charging but as soon as i unplug the charger the phone cut off. Luckily I have an extra battery, popped it in, flashed a new ROM thinking that was the problem, turns out it was something to do with the ROM(maybe it needed a certain amount of battery power to boot up). My completely dead battery worked on the cm7 ROM I flashed, plugged in the charger and it booted up normally and started charging.

Oh so it could be ROM related? :/ That makes sense considering I just installed a brand new ROM. Thank you!

Yea it could be ROM related but it also could be a number of other things. Hopefully flashing a new ROM will fix the issue.

Thank you. I might just have to downgrade back to 3.9. It's almost a shame. xD
I'm going to test my old battery in this ROM just to make sure before I downgrade.
You need to use your Samsung usb charger, and wall adapter only. These two are the only ones that will actually work. I had this same problem and realized it was because I wasn't using the Samsung stuff. Even when pugging into the computer, use the Samsung USB cabe only. As for the battery your using... I wouldn't recommend it, no matter the fantastic battery life you must be getting.

Daw it's a fellow Samsung battery.
Thank you about the cable, I need to purchase another one anyways, mine at home seems to not be connecting very well. :/
ROM. some roms do that. it will not let you power up while charging if the battery is very low. you will get the circle and the battery symbol after. sometimes you still cant unless you pull the battery. happened to me many times
