What radio do you use on BAMF Remix 1.8? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry.....very stupid question:

MR2?
thanks!

I didn't think you could use mr2 or mr2.5 with non gingerbread and non mr2 ruu froyo builds, or is 1.8 using the new ruu?

NOT MR2 or MR2.5

bamf 1.8 isnt an mr2 froyo rom so any of the mr1 radios

I'm sorry for the misguided info. Thanks for the correction. I must've read somewhere that it is backwards compatible with the bamf froyo build. Man, I'm getting old.

Can somebody link me to an MR1 radio(s)? The radio thread is confusing I dont know which is which

ditto, does anyone have the link to download the mr1 radio?

Look in the radio thread from ad he has them listed the first ones are all old froyo but if you read the op you will see that,no one radio is best you need to try them and find the one that works for you,so off your lazy asses and do some research then you just might get your phone to work as good as the rest of us. YOU HAVE TRY THEM ALL TO FIND THE THAT WORKS BEST FOR YOUR DEVICE.

my phone is already up and running
i'm running bamf 1.8.6 w/ the new radio that was released yesterday
- i was just looking for the mr1 for my archive.
I had installed the PG05IMG from this android central guide but I just wanted
the radio not the whole thing

I used the 2nd radio in this list and never got a reboot. It's the .7 cdma with .6lte.

[Q] Rooted OTA update & Das BAMF Confusion

I was told the following:
"If you are running BAMF v1.6.3 and you installed it correctly, you already have the update, it's based on the leaked copy of the Verizon update that's out now."
True?
I was thinking of installing the ROOTED version of the OTA update that just came out a few days ago, but if BAMF v1.6.3 is already the update....what's the point...right?
Also, when I flashed BAMF v1.6.3 I did not flash a radio, so I'm running the stock radio (BAMF v.1.6.3 does NOT include an updated radio). I would like to flash a radio combo, but I am confused on which is the "correct" radio combo.
Is there any consensus yet on which is the correct radio combo?
If you are running the 1.6.3 then you already have the update and no need to flash anything other than the new radio. You don't have to actually use the new radio if you don't want to. There is a thread in the development section with 4 combinations of radios for your enjoyment.

That's what I thought. I read the thread with the 4 combos of radios. Just not sure which combo to choose. Is there a combo that is more preferred than others?
Does anyone know which radio combo the new OTA update is using?

I would give the first one in the list a try and if all is ok, then terrific -- and you'll then be running the latest radio (the OTA).
I was running the 1st combo on the list (latest) and I got nothing but random reboots and intermittent data connections. I flashed the 2nd one down and its has been good so far. Even used GPS status and get a GPS lock quickly now. Running BAMF 1.6.3 as well.
I'm confused on the whole radio issue. what are the benefits of flashing the latest one? and what exactly is a "radio" update. i know it has to do with firmware but aside from that...

MR2 radio

So just saw the post on the leak of the new mr2 software and radio. Has anyone had problems with it yet? I want to upgrade the radio and then go to an mr2 room ( i think thunderrom was the only one i could find that had ingegrated it) but i want to make sure it's all good to go first. Also would be nice if someone could post the radio link cuz I already lost it lol. Oh and would it be better to wait for gingerbread release since its supposed to be out by q2 and Im gonna do that anyway or should i do this since it's probably gonna be delayed?
Android Police MR2 leak
I've been running MR2 stock RUU since the leak and have had no issues.
The market app was an older version, but that was it really, no reboots yet!
Yea i flashed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115714 when it leaked and flashed almost every gingerbread/sense rom available without any problems so far

Wait Im more confused now... I thought this was a radio that worked for froyo not gingerbread. Is this just a more improved version if the previous gingerbread radio leak?
Alright after reading up some more it appears that this is the latest radio that will work for either gingerbread or froyo is that correct? Because the perfect storm and gingerbamf both use the mr2 radio but there on two different software versions. and unless Im wrong the perfect storm is still froyo
it will work on all gingerbread based roms, but only SOME froyo. I think PlainJane works (double check just in case). I just jumped straight to GB to get this radio

It works on both but only on newer froyo releases released in the past few days or so. There is a thread on the full ruu that explains this. Sorry I'm not at a computer or I'd post a link. I think it was posted by chingy or jcase...

easy answer this radio works with both. however it will not work with the froyo our phones came with or with the recent fail OTA update. It works with the newly leaked OTA update (MR2) which is still froyo but with an updated base. It also works with ALL the Gingerbread ROM's based off the gingerleak.
I've been running since perfect storm 1.5 was released and it runs flawless. for fun i have flashed some of the gingerbread rom's and it works fine except for the usual gingerbread bugs that are still being worked on.
hope this helps
Thanks for the fast replies everyone that helped a ton! One last question should I update my radio or install the new Rom first? I've seen it both ways and also with a flash, battery pull, and then straight to hboot but which is best?

doesn't matter...i find it easier to boot into recovery and flash rom...pull battery and boot in bootloader to flash radio and good to go...
it's just easier that way cuz if you flash radio first you gotta delete PG05IMG to get into recovery (which means pulling sd card and putting into adapter for computer)...or you have to fully boot into your old rom which will no longer work and then boot into recovery from there.
good luck
How can I tell if I successfully installed the new MR2 ruu.
My TB is rooted
Here's what I did: I restored my Stock Rom. I replaced the other(MR1) file with the one that I downloaded from the leak post. I turned off the phone. Held vol - and power. That got me to HBoot, then it asked if I wanted to update. Clicked yes and it did it's thing. Rebooted, wiped data, cache, dalvik. Installed The perfect Storm v1.5. It didn't brick so I think it didn't take.

Gingeritis on XDA Premium
This is what my Software says, look about right?
newest radio, newest froyo software. your good to go
Sweet. Do you think I should be worried about random brick?
only a problem with a pre release radio for gingerbread roms. dont fool around with anything you dont know about and youll be fine. i would recommend doing a clockwork backup though
Been running it since it leaked, no issues on two different GB ROMs.

The devs think the bricking issue is related to Hardware, not the software or radios. Read up on it. There are some things you can do to mitigate the risk, but the possibility is still there. You are running Froyo I think (PS 1.5?). MR2 will run that til you are ready to move to GB.
XDA Premium via Gingeritis
been running it since it came out no issues the best leak yet

Radio question

Hey all!
I rooted my phone quite a while ago and have been running das_bamf_remix_1.7 and am thinking of switching to a different rom, the only thing is that I see all these requirements for mr2 or 2.5... and my question is, do these usually come with the rom? If not, what are the best steps for flashing these radios and what exactly do they do?
Thanks guys.
Hi, that is exactly what I was trying to figure out too.
Can the radios be updated independent to ROMs?
I am currently at rooted stock rom.
Should I install the radio to, say MR2, and the install the custom ROM?
Thanks for your help!
The radios do not normally come with the ROM's and would need to be updated separate using the HBOOT process. GB would need the MR2 or MR2.5, Froyo would use the MR1 radios. I don't have the links right now to point to the radios but if you search here you will find them pretty quickly.
Here is a link for some info on the radio's.

Thanks alot! I think I was able to install both the custom rom and the radio (in that order).
I wish if someone could help a bit more...

fooooo - Yes you are correct with the rom then the radio flash. As far as the bricking, did you brick or are you just curious about it bricking?
I am completely stock but flashed the mr2 update.. reboots have completely stopped but my signal and 3g (currently not in 4g area) are extremely slow.. although they appear to be slower while pdanet v3.0 tethering.. any info or advice?
Also can anyone point me to a thread that lets me go back to completely stock
Thanks
The bricking issues seem to have subsided since the release of the MR2 radio. I think it was suspected that the original leaked GB radio initiated the bricks.
krime - As far as running MR2 on stock I would imagine that the problem is that MR2 & 2.5 are for the GB-based ROMs (and das bamf 1.8.6) and as such won't work with stock froyo. But I haven't been on stock for a while so maybe somebody else knows for sure.

Ok so basically download the stock firmware and exploits, when it gets to the adb commands (from the above on) im lost... Do I download the sdk starter package on android sdk website or? A complete guide-for-dummies would be appreciated
I am coming from 1-click DroidX so my rooting ability is negligible.. however because MR2 apparently does not belong on stock froyo.. I kinda have to in order to go back to complete stock.
I would of posted in the dev forum but I havent met the minimum required posts lol
Thanks for your responses

First: Don't post questions in the dev forum. I know you didn't, but you said you would have if you had enough posts. Only development of hacks and ROMS and such belong there just FYI. As to your question, J-Case's root tutorial that is stickied in the dev forum has an easy ADB installer. Use that it's the easiest way to get ADB up and running. Search XDA and Google for tutorials on how to use ADB. I don't have links, but its pretty easy to find the info. Once you have done that go to the dev forum and look for J-Case's sticky thread on how to properly return to stock. This should get you back on totally stock unrooted MR1.

Help?! Tried flashing new MR2 radio w/DAS Bamf 1.8

I have been running Das Bamf remix 1.8 for a couple weeks now and love it however I read that upgrading your radio can improve battery life which would really help since my phone eats battery...
Either way I downloaded both the MR2 and MR2.5 radios and verified the MD5 sums. Renamed them to the proper name and copied them to my SD card, booted into Hboot and it automatically found them and updated it.
Problem is now my phone isn't working. It says "No service" and I can't make or receive calls?
What did I do wrong and how do i fix it???
Just to be sure-Is your battery cover on? The antenna is in the cover
Yes, I never took the battery cover off.
Just powered off and held down power + vol up to get into Hboot.

Just as an FYI i did them individually...not both at the same time. Tried MR2 radio first, then the MR2.5. Neither worked and when I went into the Bamf toolkit to change the LTE settings (I only have 3G so i run on CDMA Auto PRL mode) it wouldn't let me change it from LTE/CDMA combo or whatever it is...
Never mind you answered that one with the post above.
I thought they only worked on 1.8.6 NOT 1.8.
1. Wrong forum.
2. You already asked this in the radio thread.
3. Froyo rom. Wrong radios.
4. "them"? You only do one at a time. Not sure the consequences of trying to flash both of them.
Is that rom based off the mr2 radio? If not you have to use the mr1 radio or change to a gingerbread rom or a froyo rom based off the mr2 leak.

If you are running Bamf Remix 1.8 then you are running a ROM that does not support the MR2 and MR2.5 radios. Flash MR1 again if you want to keep Remix 1.8.

I read in the Bamf Remix 1.8 thread that people were using the MR2 and 2.5 radios...guess I misread what they were saying.
Where can I find the MR1 radio?
Ok I am good, flashed back to MR1.
Question - Is it worth flashing 1.8.6 to use the new MR2 radio? Does it have better performance? Does it help with battery life?

Short answer: No
Longer answer: It was discovered that the bricks were hardware related not software. I have flashed every radio that has been released since I purchased my T-bolt at the beginning of May and have had ZERO issues.
I c. Can you link me to a radio you reccomend. And do have any tips to prevent bricking when flashing it or using it o:?
