[q] !!!installing cm7 with rom manager!!! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know a while back when i installed cm7 on my vibrant i had to do a lot of steps with clrad and flashing kernels one at a time... if i install with "rom manager" do i need to do any other step? does it change the kernel and everything for me already???

I realize you have only 30 posts, but you really need to read more...

that is true u do need to read more but Rom manager PRemium is really easy to install cm7. Flash clockwork-pick vibrantmtd and then 3x NOT 2x. Then go to download and pick cm7 and then download latest nightlie. If its ur first cm7 nightlie choose all three, wipe data, wipe dalvic and backup rom but on ur second nightlie all u neeed to do is wipe dalvik and backup rom. Dont forget to select install gapps

Clockwork recovery 3 help

Hello iam unable to go into cwr 3.0 to flash cm7 , I tried few methods with rom manager ( i.e flashing a file then looking for cwr 3.0 in rom manager/ all cwm recoveries but no luck ) is there any direct update.zip for cwr 3? please help
Thanks
Is your problem that you don't have the clockwork recovery console loading vs the standard one?
What are you flashing from? 2.1, 2.2?
Either I'm misunderstanding or your question is a little vague or missing details, not meant rudely of course.
He is trying to flash CM7.
Dude, you do not need CWM 3 to flash CM7, you need to do this:
1.Make sure you're running a Eclair/Froyo Firmware (2.1 or 2.2) and Eclair/Froyo Bootloaders!
2.Root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery.
3.Do a Nandroid backup!
4.WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
5.Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
6.Optionally install the Google Addon (through ROMManager is easiest)
Click to collapse
You can do it with CWM 2, just put the rom on the root of the sd card, wipe everything and flash.
go into Rom manager premium and choose flash clockwork. Then choose Vibrantmtd, then choose 3X NOT 2X and bam ur done! u have 3x clockwork now and now download cm7 rom. On ur very cm7 nightlie always wipe data and wipe dalvik and backup rom. When u update ur second rom u will only have to wipe dalvik and backup rom. Dont forget gapps!
Guys thanks for ur replies, I am on cm7 but iam unable to install other gingerbread roms , as I watch lot of videos iam missing the Samsung player on cm7, so wanted some leaked gingerbread Samsung custom roms n they need CWR 3. I will be going back to stock 2.1 then root n install rom manager , now how to get clockworkmod 3? Thanks

[Q] Some q, about switching roms

Hi,
I'm started to read about roms and Glossary's
Currently now I'm running Trigger 3.2 that based on FROYO.
I.
As far as I understand (and correct me if I wrong) if I want to switch to another ROM (for ex. Project V) (NOT CM7 based rom) all I need to do is:
1. Copy the rom I want to phone (internal \ sd)
2. Ti backup
3. Full backup from CWR
4. wipe data\factory reset
5. wipe cache partition
6. wipe delvik cache
7. Install Zip from SDCard
Is this method cover ALL 2.2 \ 2.2.1 based roms?
II.
Is buying JIG from Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Samsung-Galaxy-...0497761183?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item20b651b39f) is recommended (Just to be on the "safe" side)
III.
If I want to try 2.3.X based rom...:
A. If I already moved to any of 2.3.X based rom the steps are exactly like in (I.)
B. If I came from 2.3 based:
1. flash with odin to stock (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087)
2. install GB Bootloader (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990)
3. boot into CWR and continue like in (I.)
IV.
About CWR - I know that this is a part of Rom Manager, and it have versions too , BUT after\before I flash new rom (2.2-2.3.X) is it recommended to install\upgrade to the lasted version and make "Flash Clockmod Recovery" (all roms came with any version of CWR)
Is those 4 Q\A are correct? (special I\II\IV)
Thanks.
Can someone help and direct me?
Thanks,.
for the 2.2 roms yes u are right, thats a very good step list!
As fo gingerbread i use cm7 so my instructions are different but ill tell u how i install cm7.
Odin to stock
Then root with eclair method of installing update package, recovery will turn from blue to green.
GEt rom manager premium as its the easiest way to do cm7.
Then go into Rom manager premium flash clockwork recovery and choose vibrantMtd and choose 3X NOT 2x. Then go to download roms and choose cm7 nightlies.
For ur very first cm7 nightlie always choose all three wipe data, wipe dalvik and backup rom!
when u update ur cm7 nightlie again u only have to wipe dalvik and backup rom.
Hope that helps
what about flashing from say miui to a jvp based rom? i know they are both gingerbread roms but miui has a cm7 base so im not sure of any extra steps i need to take in order to flash

cm7 help

Ok I want cm7 on my phone. I downloaded the latest nightly which is 39. From my understanding I have to odin back to stock jfd and reroot and install clockwork recovery. Then I wipe and stuff then flash. My question is does the zip have the kernal in it? And when do I flash the google add on zip?
You are INCORRECT about the install procedure.
It is really easy to install it now.
1. Make sure you have root.
2. Go onto Market and get ROM Manager Premium, select Vibrant MTD and install the latest nightly straight from the app (or download the latest nightly like you did and follow step 3)
3. Reboot into recovery (Clockwork) and install from there. Make sure to check Factory Wipe, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik before you install it.
4. Install Google Apps (download is in the CM7 topic). Flash through Clockwork like you did CM7.
You do not need to go to ODIN for any of these. As always, MAKE A NANDROID backup in case you want to go back.
As for your question, the CM7 package now DOES contain a kernel. You don't need to do anything additional to make it work. Just flash like you would a normal ROM.
Ok well im currently running phiremod and I wanted a clean install. So that's y I was gonna odin to stock and then flash cm7. Thanks for the quick reply by the way
pick 3x not 2 x for cm7!
What do u mean 3x? And when I odin back to stop do I check repartition?
if u install clockwork for cm7 u pick 3x not 2x in rom manager premium.
I don't have the premium one. How do I do this from the free one? Or is there a different way of flashing it without rom manager premium?
Just install as u would any other rom, make sure u wipe data and wipe dalvik

Follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980241 this is how I did it from 2.1 stock

hi friends..
i have sony lww rooted and a flashed custom rom serenity v3 and vegeyance 1.31 kernel.

should i have to follow all procedure again while flashing another custom rom
i mean i don't want to loose my data and contacts again i have backup but i don't want to do it again
so if i want to flash another custom rom should i have to follow all procedure like..
-flash a kernel
- do a full wipe/factory reset
- wipe cache
- go to mount & storage>format system
- go to advance-wipe dalvik cache
- flash the rom
i know flashing kernel and flashing rom is always important and without it i cant install any custom rom
but i hate the steps to follow between these two steps.....
so friends plz tell me is this compulsory to follow all steps or is there any short way...

If you are on an ics kernel, no need to flash a kernel again. If you want to flash CM, then you have to follow all the instructions. While switching between roms, wipe everything except the /data partition. Then install your new custom rom. There is no guarantee that the rom will boot. It is recommended to wipe everything but no harm in trying. It is much safer to backup contacts by going to contacts and export to sd card. For messages you can use Sms backup and restore on market. Use titanium backup for apps. Done!

I would not recommend to format /system. Otherwise you may get a getprop error. The updater-script should wipe /system automatically
Only wipe it if it's recommend in the thread of the rom :good:
follow this procedure bro...
1.Backup
So you dont want to lose data...then first backup your contacts, export it to memory card,
then backup messages using sms backup and restore,u can find that on the play store...
dont forget to make a nandroid backup..
2.Gather info about current device status and the rom u want to flash
then check whether the rom you want to flash requires a different kernel other than the one on your device right now...
if the android versions differ, definitely kernel has to be changed otherwise you can get stuck in a bootloop...
visit the rom thread, check whether there are some bugs associated with your device, download the fixes required if any...
here you might find links to the supported kernels, instructions on installing the rom i.e wipe cache, data, dalvik cache, system etc etc...
download the rom, copy it to your sdcard along with the fixes if any...
3.Start flashing
First flash the kernel...then enter recovery
wipe the partitions that were mentioned on the thread...
then select your rom and flash it..,then enter recovery again if u want to flash the fixes...
4.Restoring..
install titanium backup first, restore all your apps from the nandroid backup, then you can restore the contacts and messages...
you are done
i know its a long procedure,u can get really frustrated until you hit on a stable rom and kernel...but i dont think there is any shortcut to this..
Sometimes the updater-script in your new rom may have been set to delete data, system, cache, dalvik cache. So if u don't want them to delete u have to edit the updater-script.
