[Q] EC09 Mass Storage - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does EC09 have the same bugs as Froyo with usb storage? Like you have to pick either usb debugging or select on selection

i know when i was playing with Nameless i HAD to turn on DeBugging to get the USB working.
It may be phone to phone.

[Q] Vibrant as my Flash Drive?

Is there a way that I can just connect my Vibrant to a computer without having to Install the Samsung Drivers?, that will be great because I will be able to bring data without a pesky Pen or Flash drive.
Ok the real question should be if I can make other computers see my vibrants SD's without the damn Samsung Drivers...
Settings>Applications>USB Settings
Set to Mass Storage
Settings>Applications>Development
USB Debugging off
ANY USB device you plug into XP/VISTA/7 will install drivers, but in most cases they will be mass storage drivers. This happens when you plug in a USB flash drive into a PC for the first time, Windows will install it's own drivers but work fine after that.
Same with the Vibrant - it will install mass storage drivers only once and after that it will show up as removable storage. The drivers don't have to be downloaded they are built into windows.
If you plan to flash your phone then you will need to download the drivers yourself and enable USB debugging.
But to use your phone as a flash drive just plug it in and you will see 2 new drive letters, on for internal phone memory and one for SD card..
If you updated to froyo.ka6 via mini kies you will also see a third drive, listed as a cd-rom. Weird.
Thx a lot!, ill check it out as soon as possible!

[Q] Mass storage?

Hey guys.
Does having this checked stop apps from automatically installing to SD like some do?
I ask this as i would like to have it ticked all the time to stop having to go into the settings and enabling mass storage.
any info would be sweet.
Cheers!
If you check Mass Storage Only in Settings/SD card & phone storage settings, it will automatically connect your phone in Mass Storage mode when you plug it via usb on your pc. That does not affect the way the SD is handled by the phone when not connected to the pc, so apps can install normally.
So you can tick it and don't worry about that when not connected to pc.
You may want to uncheck that when trying to connect via adb though, or when upgrading firmware via pc.
Cheers!
just what i needed to know
It doesn't affect the installation of apps it just puts your phone in mass storage mode directly when you connect it to your pc.
You also don't have to always chose mass storage mode from settings, if you don't have USB debugging turned on, a pop-up screen will appear with a button to turn USB mass storage on/off, or you can do it from the drop down status bar tap the USB connection notification and select mass storage.

[Q] CM9 USB mass storage issues

This is a repost from the Q&A forum I've posted a few hours ago, so I apologize. I'm just trying to get as much insight as possible on the problems I'm facing.
Complete noob here, let alone first android device and coming from Iphone. After I got my first Android device; the Samsung Galaxy Note (I717) I opted to go for another operating system to enable the tethering feature. I was successful in rooting my phone, installing CWM, and successfully flashing my ROM to the latest CM9 ROM.
However, I have a few simple task that I simply cannot accomplish, they are as follows:
1. Computer can no longer see phone as a mass USB storage device. I have enabled USB debugging mode on phone through settings.
2. No music player app can see my music files I have loaded on my microSD card, of which I have manually loaded through the computer to the microSD card.
3. the gallery cannot see my pictures I have transferred into the SD card.
However, all these files can be seen and accessed only through the OI File Manager app on the phone.
I do not know what I am missing.
Can somebody help Please?
Thank you,
Jeff
I have a similar post in the Q & A, its not the ROM, I believe it has something to do with custom kernals\ICS OS and the hardward of the galaxy, I dont think its completely compatible, hence the reason samsung hasnt officially released it. Both times Ive flashed to ICS on my galaxy note, my usb mass storage abilities have been lost. I can no longer connect VIA USB either.
Hmmmm no problems here?
I have used all of the ICS roms released since the first leak, through all of the CM9 updates, hybrid tablet...etc. I haven't had any particular problems connecting my phone to my PC, unless I was using the 15 toggle mod....
All if the ICS leaks you have to go under setting - Wireless and Network - more - USB Utilities - USB mass storage...
On the CM9 ROM, when you connect to PC, you get a notification that you have to acknowledge, then choose USB mass storage...
Like I said, both methods worked fine for me, unless I installed the 15 toggle mod on the leak..
Cheers!
The CM9 rom is an unofficial beta build. It's very good for what it is, but you shouldn't expect a beta build to be an every day rom. I had issues with USB transfer too.
Here is how to connect your gNote with CM9 in USB Mass Storage mode:
Settings>Storage>Press the menu key>USB Computer connection>Check the box against "Mass Storage".
Now connect as usual...
Enjoy...

MTP is essentially USB mass storage that's what you should be using.

last CM12 nightly i tried had usb mass host broken so check cmxlog and see if and when if they have fixed.
Previously i was able to connect my phone with my TV via USB MASS STORAGE (TV was able to detect my phone as a storage device), i could access the videos & songs after connecting it through but now i can't do that.
What i think is USB Mass Storage has been disabled on core Android/CyanogenMod in favor of MTP and PTP as there is a problem with the way mass storage works. When you connecte the device to the computer then mass storage method needs exclusive access of the storage (intarnal extarnal sd card) and so it disconnects totally from the Android operating system running on the device. Any files or apps stored on the SD card or USB storage would be unavailable to android os when it was connected to the computer so to make Android os running smooth during that pc connection but I can't appreciate this as mass storage is really essential to connect it to inferior devices like TVs and car music player.
Anyone know a way to activate mass storage in Android? Running on Android 5.0.2/Cyanogen 12
Came to this thread because I'm looking for the same thing, yet for my Xperia ZL. I've found MTP mode unstable on my device (even with stock ROM) and using it as Mass Storage Device is the only reliable way to access my 64GB SDCard. So IMO +1 on MTP/PTP not being the only available USB modes out there!
any update on this issue???

How can i enable USB Mass Storage?

Hello guys, i have version MIUI 8.1.3 stable, is there any way to enable usb mass storage so that when i connect my phone to my pc i can see it as usb and not this bull**** MTP stuff? MTP is so slow and it always gets stuck when i try to make folders or move files within the phone.
