My Evo 3D is rattling... - HTC EVO 3D

My GF just had to point out that my shiny new phone makes a rattling noise. And now I cant NOT notice it.
What are they chances they replace it?

this thread is so detailed that even i can hear it rattling

Can you be more specific? Where from? When does it do it? Etc...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I think mine does it too. I think it is the loose camera button and 2D/3D switch rattling every time the phone vibrates.

Is it the 2d/3d switch? Mine does it a little too. tpu case will probably fix it

Yup, that's what is causing it on mine. Camera button and 2d/3d switch make a slight rattle if I provoke it. Nothing I'm super concerned about at the moment.

I don't mind the sound, but it's day one. I am just worried of it failing after some use.

My camera button and 2D/3D switch rattle a little when it touches something. One of the first things that bothered me.

Sorry, it was more a rant and complaining but yeah its rattling near the bottom- left hand corner if you are looking at it from the back.
Something tiny sounds like.

Oh you're good...

my OG Evo rattled every time it vibrated. It stopped after it got pocket lint on whatever was rattling. My evo 4g had everything go wrong that could go wrong. (except screen separation) and my sprint stores would not exchange. I had the screen grounding issue, the screen splotching, the rattling, the usb charge port problem (this was intermittent and wouldn't do it at the store). Hope I have better luck with the e3d. Other people I know would go in and say they wanted a replacement and with no questions asked were given a new 4g. And im very polite and well spoken, never late paying bill, and so on. Im just not good with that kind of stuff.

Mine does too.

Wow! Never noticed that either.

why the rattle bro? I thought the EVO 3D was PERFECT seeing how everybody was dissing on the negative reviews.

Called Sprint this morning and they are sending me a new one today. Fantastic Customer Service by Sprint!

Dangit now that you made me notice this lol
Mines only the 2d/3d switch. its tight function when you switch it top to bottom(3d->2d), but it has a amount of play front to back that wiggles around and when phone vibrates is annoying.
I'd be suspect on any replacement right now as i'd assume they all are like this since I assume we all have hardware v2's.
please report back if your device is/isn't fixed when you get the new one though.

Oh no! Not light bleed!!! Say it ain't so!

It is along the bottom of the screen. I'm scared to boot the other one I ordered.

I can't believe people have had this phone for like 36 hours and this is the first thread!!!
Yep the 3D does have light bleed along the bottom of the screen and up the sides. Doesn't appear to be as bad as the Evo 4G but it is there.
And I don't thing the power button is any different either. It the same hard to find one on my Evo 4g.

Yup, same here. It's minor, and doesn't really bother me. Barely noticeable.
The powerbutton though, how's it hard to find? It's always in the same spot and never moves!
yes, this is one of the things i wish htc fixed but i have it too.. im going to ask for a new one because i have a white spot near the home button from the light.. guess the black under the glass didnt cover that little pin size spot.
as for the light bleed... i always use a case on my phone, do i dont see it much. sucks that its there i guess but not a deal breaker

Ya it has it a little bit but It doesn't bother me one bit cuz I don't walk around pitch black rooms to notice it, lol. But I gotta say I CAN'T WAIT till this phone is rooted cuz it's already AWESOME!!!!
Mine is the same way, a little light bleeding from the capacitive buttons, but not a big deal at all.
I see it in a well lit room. I had to go in a dark room with my dslr to get the picture. maybe I'll get a case but I sure do like to streak.

To each there own. Personally I don't like companies doing shotty work on any part of my device. It's not bad but when I'm laying in bed on the EVO it was annoying and could make watching videos not good. Like I said I'm weird but I like my products made with care and without batch defects.
That being said it not as bad as the original but its a shame they couldn't fix such a stupid issue.

Of course it's not a big deal, but it's really something that just shouldn't happen. When cheaper phones by HTC can have no leaks, then it means it's all just a matter of quality control.
Both phones have light bleed at the bottom. It's there. It is very hard to photograph. I won't go into why it is so hard to photograph. But it shows up very well in a bright room.
No light bleed here whatsoever

Tilted Screen??

I don't usually imagine things, but I hope I am imagining this. Could everyone take a very close look at their screen and see if it seems that the display is slightly tilted to the right? Almost like it is slighty rotated... like by one or two pixels. It would be most noticeable (if you are afflicted) by looking very closely at the upper right corner of the status bar.
Are there any video screen testers to download that would give me a better perspective?
My actual LCD is tilted by 1-2 pixels to the right under the glass. Was the first thing I noticed when I turrned it on and looked at it deadon. Not enough to make me return it, but it's BARELY noticeable. Had the same issue with a refurbed OG Evo from Sprint when mine broke.
Then again, I have perfect vision and I pay attention to the smallest and dumbest details.
is your 3d/2d switch loose front to back?
j/w b/c mine is and it bugs the crap outa me. also noticed the screen seemed to be recessed a tad more in the top right. but thats me nit picking really.
I thought I was going insane when I noticed this, its barely noticeable but I knew something felt off, especially if I looked right at the top by the status bar like the OP said. .

Evo 3D Survives Car Accident

I just got my car yesterday made a month. 2005 Impala it had a problem when I got it, the car shakes when I hit 50mph or over. I took it to the dealership and they told me all it needed was a speed balance and it's been working ever since until today. I was on 75 doing about 60mph in the last lane to the left. All of a sudden my car start with the shakes again. I got kind of nervous cause I was going around a bend so I started holding the wheel with two hands. It was still shaking so I tried to slow down but the steering wheel started to go towards the left I tried to hold it steady and pump the brake to slow down but all of a sudden the car started to slide and I tried to avoid sliding into traffic to the right. I tried to lean into the wall and the car made a loud sound I thought the tire popped and all of a sudden I smacked the left wall and slid to the other side of the freeway and hit that wall and came to a stop. No air bags deployed my OG Evo was in my pocket and the Evo 3D was on the sprint universal dock in the middle of the car right above the radio. When things cleared up my 3D was up against my cracked up windshield I thought the glass would have been cracked it only had the Sprint hard snap on case and the phone was find it just turned off and took a while to cut on. The car dock holster for the phone came completely off and was on the floor in the passenger side of the car on the floor. The car is totaled I'm pretty much glad I'm okay. The ambulance guys were like how are you okay all the tires were balled and the engine dropped and none of my airbags deployed. He said looks like I was sold a BOLD car he asked what insurance I have told him Progressive full coverage and he said I would sue cause the car look like its a lemon sale or some term with lemon in it that they sold me. The police came looked at the tired and said they were all the way down to the bridge that how ball they were he told me to file a law sue to GM for the airbag as for the tires the dealership.
Pictures up in a few minutes. Have to post them from my OG Evo
Damn, that's intense. Glad to hear you're alright. As far as the airbag issue, I bet the stealership did something to them, not GM.
omfg dood! glad you survived!
How the heck do u buy a car without A) test driving it both at low and high speeds, and B) not look at what condition the tires were in.... Your buying used, and I'm afraid to say both you and the dealership should of caught it. But I'm glad you're safe.

Yea man I appreciate it. I was so worried I didn't know what to think I just didn't want to slide into traffic. If I didn't have on a seat belt I wouldn't be here right now. It could be but I'm definitely going to try and fight it man I got a car note on that car for 15,000+ and it's totaled due to a problem I told them about and on top of that I hit two walls and dragged against one of them and the neither of the airbags came out.

I did a low speed test drive like around the blocks a few times but not a high speed after I got the car I got on the freeway and noticed it took the car back and told them about it. Weak vibration, any suggestions?

Hey guys, my phones vibrate function has slowly been getting worse and worse, I can hardly feel haptic vibrate when I hit keys on the keyboard and it sounds like absolute hell when a text vibration happens or if someone is calling me. Any suggestions? I don't want to have to unroot and bring it to Sprint just yet..

This is good to know, I am using clean rom and am going to check with the rom handler.
I just swapped my vibration motor because it was weak. HTC shipped more than one type of motor and when I replaced the motherboard it came with the weaker type. You can tell the difference visually, the stronger motor looks like two domes (big and small) while the weaker motor has one dome and two ridges on the other side of it.
Anyways, I wanted to explain how to replace a dead/weak motor. It's really easy to do. There is no need to solder or unclip it. You can find motors by searching google. They are under $5. If u buy a motherboard it will come with one too. Use the description I gave to discern what type ur buying.
Remove your battery and sd card. Search youtube for the evo 3d teardown video. Follow the first two steps: remove the 6 screws and crack open the back wit your fingernails. Now you can see the motor.
Unplug the motor connector. Lift the motor straight up and out of it's cradle/box using ur fingernails. It's not secured in any way. It just slides out.
I think there will be a few people doing this now that we have a good ICS & sense 4 rom. The vibration on these new roms is much softer and I couldn't feel it with the weak type motor. It just made bump sound.
Damn, we should switch vibration motors. I actually prefer a softer one like how it was on the Evo 4G, but mine has insanely strong vibrations.

I agree with you on this. Mine was so strong it even felt like it rattled! found a solution though. Remove one of the scripts (soft or medium) from the attached zip file and place it in your init.d folder to decrease vibration. Stock value is 3000 but I adjusted the script to 2500 and it is close to perfect for me now.
Personally don't have a problem with that but good fix just in case

I would think that is certainly possible. Maybe increase to 3500. Try at your own risk since this is actually increasing voltage to the motor. i have no idea what the motors top voltage is rated.

But that's the thing. Unless your "screen bleed" is completely different than the pictures posted here every Amaze is going to be the same. The capacitive buttons are too bright on black screens and the light leaks through to the area of the screen right above them.
Every phone has this problem.
Sending it in will just get you another phone with the same problem.

Then I ship this back or do I have to ship mine out first??
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA App

i exchange phone on t-mobile all the time, if thats your provider, youll have to tell them about the issue, and hopefully they send you a replacement, its only going to be the phone, no battery case, just the phone, then once you get it you can then send your old one back without the battery and case cuz youre gonna be using them on the new one
