Cannot get past buffering at first advertisement, reporting possible network error, however network connectivity well established on both wifi and data network. I'm thinking maybe adfree or maybe ad blocker built into gingerblur, anyone with any thoughts or similar experiences?

If you are running Kenneth Penn's GingerBlur or GreyBlur, replace the "hosts" file with the default one which only contains 1 line for localhost.
You can find it in /system/etc/
You'll probably need to use root explorer to get to it... or adb.
Then reboot and Hulu Plus will work on you Gingerblur Atrix! The downside is ads will show in most free apps... small price to pay.

Thanks for the help! It seemed everything but the development threads were idle since the BL news! Anyhow I'm glad to have this confirmed so I don't have to waste an afternoon flashing around.
I found my stock hosts file in /etc/

Anyone know how to fix the Market app on the HKTW 2.3.4 image?
I cannot download a lot of my old apps since it thinks my carrier is Union Telephone Company instead of AT&T.
Market Enabler doesn't work.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Which apps can't you download?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Hulu Plus for one.
I just want my phone back on a U.S. carrier.
Country restrictions are blocking some apps.

How will that help?

That's how I got Barnacle while using GingerBlur.
Maybe change the ro.build.fingerprint line in the build.prop file to something else that works?
Do we know if Kennethpenn's Market in the build he has works? Maybe he can tell us what his build.prop says and we try that.
Or try Droid X Gingerbread build.prop line and manipulate that to see if it works.
hey i can help. its easy just download 4shared mobile and download hulu plus apk. and youll see it just download it from there. i had the same issue. just check the allow third party apps in settings.
i can also just email the apk, but you should be able to find it.

I've tried that. It doesn't work for me.
Finally fixed my market.
Did a fresh flash of 2.3.4, restored missing apps with titanium backup, restored system data, rebooted, and now we are back to the AT&T market.
WOOT!. Not going to downgrade to 1.83 now.
I'm really not sure what gingerblur did to disable adds but I really miss it. Is there any way to make an update zip to fix the 2.3.4 build that is out to make it ad free.

There is an app in the Android Market called adfree that does what you want.

GingerBlur used a modified HOSTS file to kill ads.
I'm attaching the hosts file in a zip.
Backup your original file and copy this one in its place.
Goes here.
/System/etc/
Don't forget to set the permission. Look at the original to get the proper permissions.
As usual, use at your own risk... yadda yadda.

FYI, adfree updates the /etc/hosts file for you with the latest and greatest entries... It's an app that got its start here on the forums.

The new market is much much better looking than the old one.
Here is the link to the .apk file of the market. Just download and install it as any other app.
http://www.multiupload.com/PNTKMUYQUM
If you're having problems after installing it (I did not have any problem) or you don't like it. Goto Settings>>Applications>>from the upper tab choose All App>>go to market app and click on Uninstall updates. This should get you back to the old Market.
Thanks for the link. It takes a sec to get used to, but looks pretty slick.

question : 1. this release of android market stops the update process if installed on stock 2.3.3GB?
2. Android market will auto-update to this new version or it is available only for some countries? I live in Romania for example.
thank you

This update will be rolled out to all countries and has been released in very few countries (I think only some carriers in US and Canada).
Regarding your first question, I don't think so, but you can never be sure until the next update is released.

I think it cannot break the updates bcoz the market updater is a separate app, not within the vending apk.

Works fine, but I see (?) Japanese text in app info tab for some apps (eg. Facebook app). But, my system language settings is english. Will be difficult to know about the app.

Except that it isn't, because you have to disable the currently installed Swype in order to install the new one. You can't do that without deleting it, which in turn requires that you be rooted.

Which if you would have read his post you would see that he said his phone is rooted. all he would need to do is delete or rename the swype apk.

I did read his post. I also read your post. I actually comprehended both of them. My reply was intended to point out that you do, in fact, have to delete the old before you bring in the new, which was entirely missing from your concise list of rock 'n roll.
Questions been answered. Can we please move on

Oh, just for anyone else doing this you also need to delete libSwypeCore.so from /system.lib
I used root explorer to do this. Swype forceclosed on me when I did a reboot but had not deleted the libswypecore so I'm hoping this was the problem.
I found this app on another forum. It's nice because they post a handful of premium apps you can legally get for free.
GetJar
I came across it in my search to find a way to browse Rootzwiki w/o going through my browser. Rootzwiki now wants you to pay for their app and I don't want to spend even just a few dollars for the one thread I'm temporarily watching. Anyways, someone posted that you can get Tapatalk for free through GetJar. Many of you are already using Tapatalk but for those that don't know it allows you to browse and favorite hundreds of various forums. I never had the need for TappaTalk before and would have gotten it, but it's nice now that I could find it for free.
So through your phone's browser, you need to go to the http://www.getjar.com. Download their .apk and install.
Anyways, Beautiful Widgets is also on there for free and you can browse some of the other premium apps they'll find and post.
Nice find. Will head over there and check it out.

I snagged a few of the Gold apps a week or so back, including Tapatalk, and haven't had any issues with any of them. About once a month, I tend to install their market, check to see if they've added any good ones, then uninstall the market again. Unlike Amazon, you don't have to have it installed to have the apps.
Very nice find I payed for a few of these paid apps lol thanks.

Yes you can but isn't 4 shared cracked apps? I had some at first when I did not know better. Then deleted via root explorer and bought it through the market.
This getjar seems more legit and legal I hope.

Not if you are downloading free ones. Nothing to crack. You can find old versions of apps if you don't like the update in market. Sometimes updated get rid of exploits

Does this app register the downloads with the Android Market? Or is this app similar to the Amazon App that gives away apps for free each day but in order to re-download them you have to have their app installed.

They don't. GetJar has their own market, so any updating would need to be done through it.
I do believe 4shared is not legal do not use it! Let's be moral and support our devs. We should also probably not continue speaking of it for the sake of the thread.

For the record, I was referring to GetJar, which is legal. I don't condone the use of illegal apps, via 4shared/wherever.
It wasn't aimed at you or anyone really, I just kept seeing it mentioned. No worries.

With the getjar, I heard people started having ads popping up when it was installed. Is this true? Is that why people install it to get the app then uninstall it?
BTW, even though they are free (I see things like Fruit Ninja FREE, etc), are these still add-supported apps? Or, is the free Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds add-free?
Thanks!
Maybe that's how they support putting paid apps for free on their website. The adds pay for the apps.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
I will say that I've had ONE ad randomly appear in my notification bar (saying I'd won an iPhone/iPad/etc), but a friend (on a different network, on a different, non-rooted/modified phone) that I know for a fact has no apps from Get Jar installed got the same thing an hour or two before me (he even called to ask me about it, since I'm his "android guy" lol). Still not sure what caused that.
(Sorry about all the stuff in parenthesis)
