SD Card Problem with Void.Forever - Optimus One, P500, V General

Searched and googled this, but nothing came up. I am super happy with the performance and battery life of Noejn's Rom and Francisco's Kernel. My problem deals with the reboot feature either regular reboot or reboot to recovery. The SD card will not initialize for some reason. The only way I can get it to work is to power down the phone and then power on fresh completely.
Is there a way to get the SD card working with a quick reboot?
Sorry, didn't know about the fact that all post should be under the Void.Forever thread, can the mod please move this? Thanks again for all the help.

- Happens with other ROMs as well?
- With different card?
- Partitioned or not? Which FS? a2sd, data2sd or something?

I never had the reboot feature until the void.forever. I've been using Franco's Rom and Kernel before that. Power down and Powering back up doesn't bother me that much. But I have flashed the rom and kernel so much lately and if the phone is on and I reboot into recovery without turning the phone off, the flash card will not show either...
I have partitioned the 2 GB card
0, 512 MB
Ext 2 to Ext 3
Ext 3 to Ext 4, etc...
I am using data2sd, thanks again for any feedback. I will upgrade to a better card one of these days...

Is it the stock card? Man, stick with ext2 for that (you will have to reformat), and frankly I would not use data2sd with that junky card at all.

[Q] new sd card - how to reformat?

fat32? how big should the allocation size be?
I want to no partitions, just want to try some froyo roms. previous sd card has partitions and windows won't remove those. so went with new sd card and after reformating in the phone, loaded sensikal rom and now it boot loops.
wtf?
reformatted the new card again. fat32, default allocation. reloaded sensikal rom. wiped, dalvik wipe, flashed rom.
it boots up, 3 skateboard guys, hangs for about 3 minutes then boot loops again into the 3 skater guys.
can't get anywhere with this phone! why can't i load some roms? what is it about cynagon type roms and froyo roms that i cannot flash to this phone? i thought it was the card being partitioned, but i have anew 8 gb sd card and no partitions and it still boot loops? is it my phone? please someone chime in and help. i am starting to f'ing lose my mind. wasting way too much time trying to get this phone to take.
i can load aloysius roms, evil eris roms. cannot load any cyn and froyo roms. also my nand restore doesn't work and i cannot restore anymore (was no problem before).
i think it has to be my phone. it has to be hardware related cause changing the sd card would have removed the only variable in this madness.
The sd should be formatted as Fat32 for froyo with no ext partitions. I don't know if this helps you, but I use the recovery partition to format. Go to the partition section in the menu and choose "0" for swap and ext partitions. This should format it all to fat32. I don't know if there is an difference in formatting to fat32 on your computer.
Oh, and is your phone charged well or connected to a power source? Sometimes low voltage can prevent you from flashing.

SD Card doesnt mount in Android, xrec is ok

I have recently upgrade to android 2.3.3 and am using EWJET as a rom.
I cannot access the SD once Android OS has booted. All apps and the system/settings says SD Card isn't mounted. Tried multiple installs, nothing works.
All 2.1/2.2 Roms are fine.
If i tap back during start-up and access xrecovery I have normal access to the SDcard and can flash packages etc. So the phone is able to access the card ok.
My SD card is the 8gb that came with the phone and isnt partitioned in anyway.
However in the past I did have it partitioned, but not now. Incase I am installing 2.3.3 and the rom wrong, ill tell you my steps.
Factory Firmware 2.1 flashed
rooted, busybox and recovery installed
Flashed X10i_3.0.1.G.0.75_only_kernel_baseband
then install the EWJET rom as per his instructions..
I pray I am only doing the above steps wrong as I desperately want the SD working on 2.3.3.
Any help would be appreciated.

you try pulling it out and blowing on it like an old nes game...
jk smiles but have you tried perhaps throwing the sd into a computer and just formatting with different cluster sizes or in general formatting the card. Might need to use an adapter.
Happen the same thing to me but with wolfbreaks rom... some people told me to re-flash the rom but it didnt work. The funny thing is the the sd card will work on any other device, and any other sd card will work on the phone... havent try re-formatting the card cauze i dont have the adapter but it should work

you might want to get an adapter. A while back i tried setting up a sd-ext partition on a 4gig card and long story short the only way i was able to run a format that gave me back the 4gigs was throwing it into an adapter
Had the same thing when I updated with stock-2.3.3.... At the time I had it partitioned in 2 partitions...
I connected the phone then with my pc, and there it was, alive and well.... So I backed up the entire card, that is, the first partition, where all my data were; I powered off the phone, took it out, found a adapter, deleted the 2nd partition with Partition Wizard Home Edition Minitool, made the sd-card 1 partition only, formatted that partition, and then I copied all my backed-up data back to the card
Then I put the card back in the phone, booted and voila: the card was recognized again by 2.3.3....! and now it functions ok!
Hope this helps, greetz, good luck,
kwarkje

formatting did not help
Anything new on this?
for me it is a little different. The card that came with the phone works fine with the GB update, the thing is that I got another phone, this one came with a 4 Gb card so I took the one in the x10 with all my pics and put it in my new phone and put the other new card in the x10 but it doesn't recognize it...
I've tried with 2 different cards, in xRec i can read it, back up, etc, but once in android its like there's nothing there. Tried formatting it with no results....
What could it be that it reads the original x10 card and no other?
Ive got no idea, but its annoying. Im gonna have to go back to 2.1 which sucks.
We need to some how figure out whats causing this. Ive tried everything.
2.3 seems to be the problem.

I have 2.3 and the card that originally came with the phone (16Gb SDHT) works fine, the thing is that it doesn't read any other card.

lol i dont know how to move it except just post new thread there
Sounds like you need a new SD card. Some of the stock cards don't play well with MTD based ROMs. I would probably get a Class 10 microSD card (be careful if you get 32gb, there are known problems with some of them)
I bought http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-microSDHC-Class-Memory-Adapter/dp/B0058GH4U0/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1335980268&sr=8-12 and have had no problems at all after!
You are flashing the THS build 2 first right? You have to flash that rom, then reboot to recovery by holding down the power button wile your in the OS and select the recovery option after that you'll be in a compatible version of CWM. Flash AOKP M5 from there.

buy a class6 or higher sd card and your issue will be solved.
As I said in my other post:
Sounds like you need a new SD card. Some of the stock cards don't play well with MTD based ROMs. I think it's a speed issue, and MTD based roms assume cards are at least a certain speed. I would probably get a Class 10 microSD card (be careful if you get 32gb, there are known problems with some of them)

thanks everyone for replying...i might have to just upgrade to a different card and see if that will solve the problem.

every since switching to a class 10 card, i have had no mounting issues or sd card damage errors since. my device also seems to be more tolerant of dirty flashing, before i had to always wipe data...also the phone seems faster loading apps, pictures etc.

Problem with Second Boot on SD

Hi all, I have a problem. I bought a 32gb class 4 MicroSD card last year which I used on my Nook Tablet. After hating (really hating) the B&N rooted/custom launcher experience, I decided it was mandatory for me to install a custom ROM on it if only to learn how to install custom ROMs. Before I took the plunge, however, I found that it was possible to have a second boot on my SD card and boot CM7, so I didn't have to flash over the stock ROM (I was scared i'd break the tablet). Anyhow, after having a much better experience on CM7, I decided to flash CM9 on my Motorola Defy (wasn't easy) and was so amazed at how beautiful it was I knew I had to have it on my Nook. I flashed CM9 on emmc on my Tablet and it was so amazing I didn't put my CM7 card back in, ever.
After this, though, CM9 expired (of course, I didn't know it would) and when I went and tried to boot CM7, cyanoboot just wouldn't boot from it and now I can only access my SD card's emmc (I think, it's where the CM7 OS is). Now I have CM9 working again but I still can't use my SD card because when I tried to re partition using EASEUS it just won't recognize the card. I really don't know what to do now, I can't restore my SD card to how it was before double boot because I can't access any partition and the only thing I can do is look at the android 200mb partition.
Any thoughts?
You didn't mention that you do have a "external card reader". Hmm, if you can... use an 'external reader', then use 'SDFORMATTER ver. 3.1' .
.
What does your cell phone say about the card ? Can the phone format the card ?

WTH? How did I not think of that :silly:
My card is up and running on my nook after formatting it on my moto defy. I would've liked to backup some info but no biggie. Thank you!
PS: I was using my laptop card reader to see my card but I couldn't access any partition on EASEUS, but I shouldn't have despaired.
