Has anyone come across a cigarette lighter mount for the GSM TP2 that will also charge the device? It has to be for the GSM version as the CDMA ones have their usb port mounted slightly to the left of center where the GSM versions are mounted.
I found two different ones so far. One is a universal one made by Arkon and seems to be less sturdy than it should be. It has a pass-through 12v port to plug in a charger to it. It only concerns me that the way it is made, it seems to not be sturdy enough based on the reviews.
The other one is made by iGrip and is pretty nice. It is made for the TP2, but it has no power option at all. If this would have a charging port on it, it would be perfect.
Anyone else seen any other options?
here in the netherlands you can buy them and they support paypal if im correct

I use this: http://www.bracketron.com/products/universal-usb-power-dock
I got it from Radio Shack with a 1 year warranty just in case. I did have it break on me but that's because I wasn't using it right. I was within the 30 day return period so i returned it an got a new one. If you do get it make sure you press the red button when adjusting the angle. I would still recommend ti since it has everything I was looking for. I doubt you'll be able to have the keyboard open, but why would you need it open while driving?

I'm still searching for something similar. I like that one, I'm just worried about having the charging cable hanging out of it. The plug only needs to be a standard USB plug. I would imagine there would be another phone or device that would require something of this sort. Also, I don't need the keyboard open while using this.

Yea that's what I initially wanted when I set out my search but ended up settling for this. My apologizes on accusing you of wanting to use the keyboard while driving. After re-reading your op I didn't see that mentioned like I thought I did before. For charging my phone I use one of these pretty good quality and it comes with a micro usb adapter which i liked since a lot of newer phones are using this. Best wishes on your search!!

Hmmmm..... That combined with the universal mount you posted might actually work nicely. I was concerned about my current HTC car charger as it has a rather long cord. This would likely eliminate that mess. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.
Anyone know where I could find a short miniUSB to USB cable. Something like 2" or so would be fine. This might be able to complete the homebrew mount I'm working on.
Short USB Cable
Amazon.com has a 1ft cable (can't post links yet) and 3 ft cables, although I haven't seen any 2ft cables. If you need 2ft you could pick up a gender changer (also available on amazon) and link two 1ft cables together.

That's a 2" (inch) cable I am looking for. Thanks anyway, though. I'm hoping I won't have to make one. Making USB cables is not fun.
Being the type of person who doesn't like to put charge cycles on a battery if I don't need to, I like keeping things plugged in when I use them. PLEASE ASUS, sell me a cable that is longer then two feet. i can barely put my tablet on my side table because it pulls the cord. Now, my "hidden" needs to be way out in the open for things to reach... I will pay good money for a LONG cable

Doesnt specify which usb type that cable is in the listing. Just says 30inches long. So I would say that was USB 2.0 as well. Theyre usually blue tipped if they are usb 3 btw and theyre new so theyre not cheap.

Did you preorder the dock yet?
I went the other way round... instead of getting a USB extension cable, I assembled a power cord extension cable
I had all the spare parts lying around, so it cost me exactly $0, and maybe 5 minutes of my time...
Has anyone confirmed the 3.0 extension cable works? I I just tried and tested transformer doesn't charge through it. What is worse though is that I breaks the normal charger. I had to unplug everything for 20 minutes to get it to charge again.

Yes, from visions. Amazon had my first order, but I cancelled after seeing visions price on the dock. I think everyone will be gerting the dock in at the same time, so I went on price instead of shipping speed.

I purchased a USB 3 Cable that has the correct amount of pins needed to be used as an extension cable (Male to Female) with the Asus charger, so with a 2 meter cable i can now sit on the sofa with it plugged into the charger to get full charge whilst using the transformer.
Saves having to put it down close to a power point to charge it with the silly short cable that it came with.

From this post HERE.
I'm sure it will charge fine, but pretty sure you won't be able to use it as a data cable to your pc. I've seen a lot of people confusing usb 2.0 with usb 3.0 cables. Be careful as they are very different.

I bought this one, it is awesome.

I like it because it is a solid mount and it's not bulky. The lack of bulk gives you access to all buttons and plugs, without looking weird or sitting in the mount incorrectly. Also, it really looks like it was designed to hold the phone in landscape, so it doesn't look like the mount is turned "sideways".
Can you put a picture if you don't mind please. Also what kind of car charger are you using. I want to put the mount on the left side and want to get the long enough power cable.

If I remember to bring the camera in the morning, I'll take one tomorrow.
I am just using the cable that came with the phone and a generic USB cigarette light adapter. It definitely would not reach all the way to the left side of the driver.
These phones still accept standard micro usb charger. I use my retractable one i had for my g2x. Long reach and can take up slack with push of a button. Can get then anywhere for $10.
Bought this off ebay. Arrived today. Very nice dock, minimalistic and it comes with a micro usb plug that is hidden behind the dock and plugs into phone to charge it. To power it, you just plug another micro usb cord into the bottom of the dock to your power source. Haven't put it in the car yet. Will test it out on the way to work tomorrow.

I have the official samsung dock and it only charges the phone. If i pull the usb cable out of the dock and connect to the phone it will allow mount of SD and copy / sync of files.
I'm sure a small wiring / circuit change inside the dock is all I need, and I'm pretty sure someone has blazed this trail before. I just can't find their notes on the forums or web.
Any assistance appreciated.

Which dock? If it's the one that has audio output - no you can't use it to sync because it uses D+ and D- for audio L/R.
If you wanted to use it to sync you'd have to remove the ID resistor and reroute D+ and D- back to the USB cable.
Thats what I'm talking about. Are those changes documented somewhere? I don't care about audio out (the dock does have that output jack).

Easiest way to do it is to break off the bottom part and just use the standard cable directly to the phone.

I saw many of those docks for the 9100 also. When I pressed the vendors for 777 compatibility the answer was always "NO". Probably because they just don't know enough for a definitive "YES". Let us know how it goes.
I may just have to break out my kids legos and build something around the plain cable
(that way it can accomodate a case)
The description says it can be used to charge/sync. For $10, I'm willing to take that bet.
It'll be nice to actually have my phone sitting in something while charging over night instead of just laying on my desk.
Our phones are pretty much the same as the international version (with slightly rounded corners and 2nd mic placement) but theoretically the bottom should be exactly the same, so I don't see why that wouldn't work.
Picked up the Razr Maxx HD on the 19th along with the Motorola Car Kit.
The Kit fits both the regular Razr HD and Maxx HD and also works with a silicone case (not for me,run naked)
Car kit works very well and removing and installing phone is smooth and charges it through the mount.
I use Pandora and Bluetooth constantly while driving and I am pleased with this kit.

So where did you get the car mount, did you have to order direct from Motorola?
Honestly if there's one thing I envy iPhone and even Blackberry users for, it's the readily-available accessories.
I got mine from Verizon and works pretty flawlessly with the car dock app that's pre installed. The only problem I've noticed is that when I get a text while driving connected to Bluetooth it stops the music and says "say listen to hear the message", which is cool but it doesn't work at all for me.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
Is it possible to separate the holder from the suction cup mount and perhaps get it mounted on a generic vent mount (like what I use for my older iGrip/iBolt stuff)?
I just got my mount today and it works great EXCEPT for it doesn't come with the car charger with built in aux out port. Without that cable, you need to unplug and plug in your aux cable every time you mount. I used the charger and cable from the original Droid Razr mount and it works great and the audio out works just fine. Not sure why they didn't include this charger/cable with the Razr HD version though.
Just got mine from Amazon. Mine also didn't come with the Y aux+charging cable.
Unfortunately it's not the same style as my iBolt stuff... I'm ordering an Arkon swivel ball vent mount and hoping that'll fit this thing (want the AC to cool my device on hot days... even if we are entering into winter...)
So does this mount have a mini plug (3.5mm) on it that can be used since it doesn't have the charger with the splitter?
Ho no... I wanted to by one on Amazon.com the RAZR Car Dock Motorola... and I can't, I'm outside of the U.S. ...

I'm using the charger that came with the Droid Razr mount that I bought last year and it works just fine and it looks exactly like that charger, so it should work just fine.
To answer someone else's question, no the mount doesn't have the 3.5mm jack, you need to plug straight into the phone each time you mount it. That's why the charger is so key so you have everything plugged in already and just mount the phone and go. Pretty weak that they didn't include it. Overall though, I like the mount better than the one for the Razr (non-HD). The ball locks tighter and doesn't move at all and the docking mechanism is better.
Just got the car mount/home smart mount (whatever its called). Worth every penny (was a little pricey). As op said very easy and smooth to mount. Also much safer IMO having your phone directly in front of you on the dashboard instead of down in your palm for the maniacs that insist on using their phone and driving (should be treated like a dwi IMO).

I bought it at the Verizon store ($79 I think) and its a package deal. It has the home mount and car mount separately but in the same box. It also came with an HDMI cord, a dual charging plug with 2 syncing/charging cables, a docking smart cable and a car charging plug. The "smart" home dock is just as cool as the car dock. A little expensive but worth every penny IMO. I use the home dock a lot also.
Edit. The pic I posted is the home dock. The car dock looks typical but well built.

But for the razr hd it is not available yet.
The old brodit holder from my razr maxx fits the hd very well.
The only thing what I have done was a hole making for the micro usb.
Save me 28 euros.
