[Q] how to root DL09 - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

well folks , the missed call thingy cost me dearly today and i am pissed as hell at froyo so i have decided that i ll use dl09 till a proper GB debloated ROM comes out.
i have installed DL09 now i need to root it so that i can debloat it using titanium backup ( if there is any other good methd then pl shoot that as well )
please suggest me
1.. how can i root dl09
2.. how can i safely debloat it and make it snappier and all

I think all you have to do is odin the cwm-recovery-all, boot directly into it & flash a compatible custom kernel to prevent the stock recovery from coming back. Z4root may work as well but I've never used it so I'm not sure. I do know that the other method works though.

Don't know much about TiB cuz I don't use it, but I think you can just freeze the bloat & the Bing w/o risking any serious issues & that should improve responsiveness.

ok well i followed your advise
what i did was
i was having a 350MB something dl09 stock , i donno where i got it from , but as compared to adrenalyn's eclair dl09 it was les in size
flashed it with odin
used the all version of CWM and odined it and side by side rebooted to recovery and installed latest SU
so the ROM was rooted LOL without any custom kernal or other things , rebooted it twice and the recovery was still red
then instead of trying to debloat myself , i took a chance and flashed adrenalyns debloated .zip of dl09
from here
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894126
looked tricky but i went ahead and it worked
the structure aint snappy as ed01 debloated was , but still it dl09 and thank god there have been no reports of it having missed call issues .
now i need to fix the battery drain , any ideas how i can do that ,
you think i should use those undervolt kernals by adryn in the above mentioned thread.
thanks for the help mate

Lockscreen question.

I was reading the development forums and see the thread for epic and fascinate lockscreens. But no one will give me step by step directions on how to install them. I am rooted with akaskrillers lag fix and overclock with the jfd baseband. Can anyone hook me up?
I need it in plain English because I really don't wanna screw it up. Thank you so much in advance.

I know I am not helping you out with your question directly, but you might check out a custom rom that already has them installed. I suggest either Master rom 1.1.4 ( my daily driver) or Bionix 1.9.1. Both of them are crazy easy to flash, and have the lock screens you wnat... not to mention their improved speed and performance over the jfd base.
edit... Master is unleashing a froyo rom very soon, so my suggestion will be to use Bionix, as i am not sure if the lock screens will make it into Masters 2.2 rom.

Ehh, Yeah they will be in my 2.2 ROM. Just not the beta version of it
But yeah, I have to agree with him.. You should probably go with a ROM that has it installed already...
I was using bionic at one point, but with the lag fix and overclock its superfast now. I get roughly 2400 quadrent score plus I like the tmobile stock apps. That's the reason I just wanted to know about the lock screens.

YOu have to use ROM Manager to flash the .zip files.
Go to the Development section, and download the .zip files, and put them somewhere in your SD card.
Using ROM Manager, go where it says "Install ROM from SD card"
Find the .zip files, and done.
Your phone will boot up in recovery mode and flash it.

Just got my Vibrant! What is the best lag fix, root, rom, other fixes udpated?

Hi
Sorry to post this questions so please don't reply with search the forum cause I already did. Hard to figure out through so many posts and info
a. I have the lag issue. What is the most updated and safe way to fix this?
b. What is the best way to root the phone?
c. any other fixes I should look into?
d. should I backup all my phone before? how could i do that?
e. what would be the best rom to install?
f. what other things should i keep in mind?
I'm trying not to mess things up cause I'm a newbie and is my wife's phone and that makes me be more cautious. I have a G2 that so far is easier to figure out (no roms or root just temporary )
p.s. if I buy an app can I use it on 2 phones?
easy way:
1. root with oclf (in market)
2. Install rom manager and clockwork recovery.
3. titanium backup (if you want to)
4. ext2 lagfix with oclf
i'm still on stock rooted, but eugene's or bionix roms are the way to go if you want a custom rom.
did you check the vibrant bible thread in general?
I use a one click root method and bionix fusion rom. I just recently started flashing the rom and other software on this phone so I don't have an opinion on other roms, but I couldn't imagine any being significantly better than this. I think most have been refined enough now that it comes down to aesthetic preference and options included.
I tried bionix 1.9.1 which ran well, but fusion made me come to realization that I don't prefer the touchwiz launcher. I currently use fusion with the kingklick kernel overclocked to 1.2ghz. I added the voodoo lag fix last night and I've noticed zero lag or stalling today. Not that the fusion and overclock had lag, but I really just wanted to see how smooth this phone could be. I'm very pleased with the phone now.

would you guys mind to post some links as towards the right threads? Would be less confusion in my head
I appreciate
Go to the General section sticky. All of your questions are answered in depth and have links.
I would root with the update file (no one click needed).
I would put rom manager on and clockwork recovery
make a backup of your system
If you have a number of apps, use titanium backup to save all apps+data so you can easily restore them.
download one of bionix's roms (bionix if you want TW, fusion if you do not). I LOVE Fusion. Bionix incluces TB in his rom now so you can just start restoring your apps... be sure to follow his instructions for flashing the rom.
You do NOT need a lag fix.... trust me on this. Flash the rom before you do anything like that.
The sticky is in my signature.

Sorry I'm kind of noob, and I just got my vibrant this weekend. But what's the difference between rooting it with the update file vs the one click method in the OCLF? What benefits does that have over the other?
And why do you not need a lag fix? How do I tell if my phone needs a lag fix? I'm currently running fresh stock, and I haven't really noticed any significant lag other than the occasional stalling between menus.
Thanks!
If you notice the lag or not will depend on what phone you had before but once you install a fix it will be obvious it was there

i'm a noob and just figured some basic steps as rooting, lagfix, flashing a ROM like bionix fusion 1.1 (the new one, guess i was one of the firsts to install it) after running into some issues I've managed ... and tell you the truth if you have some it knowledge is really worth. The phone ROCKS now.
rooting is good for stuff like removing system applications (that you don't need), making backups, flashing new roms other the stock one (the one that you have now "stock") little bit more "advanced stuff"
lagfix: well i've noticed the lag later after I installed some apps. More apps. Big lag ... annoying. Phone got very slow. that's why you need lag fix (but if you flash Bionix Fusion for ex than you're fine no more lag fix)
If you're interested in some help I'm willing to help considering some guys around helped me too so I'm just returning that to the comunity
pm or post here if need some step by step how to.
Just flashed fusion JAC and I'm getting some lag, what's a good lag fix? Voodoo? OCLF?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I've used Bionix and Fusion (both with undervolt/overclocked + Voodoo lagfix). Just flashed eugene's latest Froyo last night. If you can live without the GPS functions for now, the Froyo ROM is fantastic. It fixes a lot of the gripesI had with the UI of the 2.1 ROMS-I can have my Google calendar as my default calendar for new appointments, Contacts are cleaner while still having social media integration, I can actually use Skype, Flash, and all of the other Android 2.2 goodies. There's no lag with this ROM right out of the box.
It's so much better that I will live without the GPS features for now and use it as my daily driver. Read the opening post here.

Can't use OCLF with Fusion. Have to use Voodoo or the EXT2 provided in the OP. Voodoo is great as long as you are confident you are able to 1. remember to disable before flashing anything else and 2. ABLE to disable before flashing anything else.
I've got bionix fusion 1.1 the one released last night as well
it rocks for me. By the way my navigation is working. And it has the new nice navigation application. I just had to wait a little bit longer.
i would not recommend using OCLF....
i would flash the new Bionix Fusion ROM w/ KK OC/UV kernel then apply the EXT2 lagfix.....ITS SO ****IN FAST!!!

use the Vibrant bible to find info on that.

Not trying to be a wiseguy but:
Read the "Vibrant directory ( Bible ) and search this forum. Look for the subjects you're interested in. All questions are answered you just need to study before you start.
Learn how to use odin - if you follow the links you will have everything you need to get back to stock in an emergency.
Read about and learn how to use one click root.
Read about and learn how to use Rom Manager to flash roms
Use Titanium backup to backup your apps
Good luck and have fun!
Ok real quick I have odin I have the stock vibrant rom from xda I am pretty good with this stuff just new to this phone I also have a few roms but kinda wanna wait for 2.2 but would like a new kernel I have rom manager and a back up of my rom but I am having a problem getting adb to work just been using the terminal apk but I need help.with this and thank you for your time

im currently rolling TeamWhiskeys Obsidian V2
its a 2.2 Froyo based off the tmobile leak
everything works as it should and its fast and very stable.
OP you need to spend a couple hours reading and understanding several things. Most if not all you need is in the vibrant bible thread. If you can't get adb to work its almost always the driver. Must understand odin just in case something goes wrong. Its hard to truely brick this phone but not impossible.

No, that only saves your data and apps. You need to save it or you can use the ones located in the vibrant library. You can always revert back to stock using odin but do so AT YOUR OWN RISK... Good luck

The Bible is the greatest thing EVER.
Just seriously use how to use Odin. If you can learn how to get into download mode consistently and connect to odin successfully you will be fine. Then learn how to use recocery, which is very easy on the vibrant. you just install ROM manager from the market and flash clockwork mod recovery. learn how to backup and restore and you can flash things through recovery. Zips are for recovery, and Tar files are for Odin. If you want to OC i recommend "Corev2" by team whiskey (since JAC has dissapeared) which works with most ROMs and should work well with stock rooted. There is Odin files and zip files for stock kernels, jfd and ji6, which you could just flash over if you dont like it. Nandroid backups dont backup kernels, so make sure you have the right kernel on when you restore something. You can find everything in the BIBLE like everyone has told you to try. One word of the wise, if you load a Froyo 2.2 on your phone and then revert back to 2.1, make sure you flash a 2.1 kernel first before you restore. So many people think they brick after they do that.
And usually if you are waiting for official firmware, it appears here on XDA ready to flash (i flashed official ji6 before it was availible OTA) at some point. I would recommend you use a rooted ji6 ROM with Corev2 (and possibly the ji2 modem to save battery life but i like the ji6 modem) this will let you OC and UV without setcpu. this is kind of a scattered response but im just trying to help. I am running AOSP jk2 1.1 by Anderdroid and i LOVE IT.
It looks like you have everything ready on your phone.
Just learn Odin, you don't really need ADB. Make sure your phone can go into the download mode via the vol up and vol down key and connect USB cable for download mode. Its a Triangle Icon with android robot with shovel.
There you should load the Pit file and Tar file to flash back to Stock in case you brick you phone. As far as flashing ROM goes, remember this!!
If you flash a 2.1 Kernel + ROM like Fusion 1.2, and create a Nandroid backup through ClockWork. Then decided to go to a Froyo 2.2 kernel + ROM like Obsidian or MacnutR11 to try out. Do not restore Nandroid backup to 2.1, it will brick your phone requring u to ODin back to stock.
Bottom line 2.1 ROM will not work with 2.2 kernel and 2.1 kernel will not work with 2.2 ROM. Don't mix them up.
Basically if you are running a 2.1 kernel + rom, then switch to 2.2 kernel and rom. For some reason you don't like it, make sure you flash back to 2.1 kernel + rom instead of doing a nandroid restore.

If you followed the steps by dnoyeb, then you are correctly set up on a debloated/deodexed ED01 ROM. Your baseband is the modem/radio and would not have changed after you followed Adrynalyne's post to get to ED01 quickly. You flashed imnuts' ED03 ODIN package which would have given you the stock ED03 ROM and kernel, but not the ED03 modem so you were still at ED01 modem which is fine. Then you followed dneyob's steps to flash the ED01 Debloated/Deodexed ROM which would have changed you to the ED01 build from ED03 build. For all intents and purposes ED01 and ED03 are the same thing. ED03 simply added in a fix for those people who could not receive the ED01 OTA update. The verizon and android both flashing at the same time is just an overlapping boot animation that happened because as I recall you could not do a complete data wipe/factory reset for fear of losing the verizon network while you are in India. So other than that little quirk of the overlapping boot animations, you should be exactly where you wanted to end up - a debloated ED01 ROM and with imnuts' -100mv kernel you should see better battery life if your phone can handle the undervolting.
Congrats!
i guess i did exactly as you have outlined,
i am now gonna caliberate the battery and will revert tomorrow about the backup and stuff
love ya

when i first was learning how to root and flash, the thread for the evilfascination rom taught me everything i know. it does a great job in describing the steps to root and then flash the rom. i personally stuck with the evil fascination because its been so stable from the getgo and i love the overall theme of it. I kept getting peculiar bugs with comrom that i did not know enough yet to try and fix.
I suggest you go to the fascinate android development forum, and read the evil fascination thread.
I updated my post on the first page with links incase anyone else was looking at a quick rundown with links on how to get to a fully rooted / debinged / debloated type setup quickly.
Thanks a bunch matey.
God bless.

for what is worth it, i did OTA to ED03, then flashed CWM and installed SU package, from there i debloated it myself with root explorer, replaced the few apk for the apps i wanted AOSP, cant get any cleaner than that.

so you mean u didnt go for debloated ed01 from adryn and not even the kernal ?
if yes then someday i might also wanna try this out, coz as and when i use 3G my battery drains like hell with the debloated setup as well.
would appreciate some more suggestions.

with EA28 and ED04 + PBJ sv 531 kernal i get pretty much good backup and good 3g speeds too.
missed call was the issue which i am trying to solve with softlocker, seems to work

Seems smooth so far. Anyone know a good app for debloating? I used one a while back that uninstalled it, but kept a backup, then you could go in a wipe from the backup if you like.
Titianium Backup
Or bloat freezer
I am using Bloat freezer and frooze them
On the other thread in the Dev section a couple of people on ED05 are having calls not ring and show a voicemail notification even though there was no voicemail left. Makes me glad I waited before flashing it, but then I haven't had many missed calls on ED04. I think I've had two and they were during a time when I was in an area with almost nonexistent signal.

The ones that I read
They only flashed the Radio That were still Missing Calls not the full Package
So that means the problem was not just in the Radio But also in the Kernel
I feel this is the best Stock OS that VZW & Samsung have for this Phone
one of the snappiest STOCK i have ever used.
no missed calls whatsoever , been using it for three days ;P
everything is working great.
Any tests with the GPS done?
I really hope this sticks but this fixed my GPS issue, full stock no gps aids, full just google maps and GPS!
Just wondeing how this update is working for everyone now that it is Offical
Is the radio alone available for flashing? Or do i need to flash the whole package?

If you need just the radio, it's here.

I have the full ed05 odin package installed. I have had one voice mail w/ no missed call notification. It happened when I was passing a cell tower with full signal. Not to worried about it tho. Gps is a lot better than previous versions, and the phone is. A lot smoother now. I would say the full ed05 pacakage is a must for people wanting to stick with the stock rom!

I replied you in other thread... you flashed custom froyo ED01 kernel so you are no longer on full ED05 ROM/kernel and that's probably why you had missed call.

Yes i also agree , Ed05 modem alone is useless,
the missed call issue in earlier FROYO builds must have been ( most prolly ) due to the Kernel or may be a bug i the basic framework of the Rom.
so anyone wanting to get rid of the missed call issue should in fact flash the whole Ed05 package
later on you can flash any other modem, like i tried Ec09, worked good i must say, gave me slightly better data speed .
all in all i must say Vzn has for the first time done some good as far as the fassy is concerned, Ed05 is a great setup and i am loving it .
Thanks to pentafive for uploading the awesome LEAK and for the first time thankies to Vzn as well

I did flash the full ed05 package... Although in order to keep cwm and root I had to flash the modified stock kernal.tar. Here is what my phone shows
Hardware version: I500.04
Firmware version: 2.2.2
Baseband version: S:i500.04 V.ED05
Kernal version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: SCH-I500.ED05
Edit* I went ahead and reflashed the ed05 package. After flashing I let it boot up, checked the kernal version and its the exact same as posted above? Anyway I flashed the cwm all.tar but not the stock kernal.tar, then I 3 finger salute to recovery, installed the su 2.3.6.x.zip and rebooted. After booting back up and verifying root, booted back into cwm and restored nandroid backup. I guess there was no need for the modified stock kernal for what Im doing because everything works the same. I was under the impression that the modified stock kernal needed to be flashed in order to keep the stock recovery from replacing cwm, but that was not the case in my situation.
