Is there an easy way to replace icon images such as contacts. I downloaded some icons from a different theme and would like to use those instead of the ones I currently have. They are PNG files and I can't seem to find the original files in the framework directory.
Try ninjamorph in the market.
your looking in the frameworkres.apk located in the contacts.apk correct?

Im just wondering and am trying to build my first theme now. thanks
What exactly are you trying to do?
The SystemUI.apk holds a lot of elements for a theme. Themes for notifications and statusbar icons are in the SystemUI.apk. The other main files to theme are framework-res.apk and com.htc.resources.apk.
(You need these 3 if you are going to do a theme in uot kitchen)
haha no i mean like an HTC sense theme.. like the skins
oh the skins can be both a system (the built in skins) and data apps (ones downloaded from the market).
Is that what you meant?
yea so if i install it from an APK then its not concitered a system APK correct? so when i am asked if i want to retain signature or re-sign i should resign it right?
are you doing the theme on one of the stock ones I think its bluesky.apk or burgandy.apk? if so, they are system so then you will want to retain it. If you changed the name and manifest to reflect your own named apk, then yes resign it.
Hello. I'm using a Galaxy Y and no one there from the boards seems to know exactly how this stuff works so I thought I'd ask here. So I've picked a few icons from the Galaxy Ace which I think would look briliant and I thought I'd try replacing only the png files instead of downloading the apk file, replacing the icons with 7zip and such, signing (if needed?) and then sending back.
I'm asking how this works because I've stumbled upon a flashable zip which seems to only replace png's inside the apk files instead of replacing the whole apk file.
Here is an example of what I'm talking about:
http://www.mediafire.com/?xycxo8vvvwqr29t
^ I saw some apkreplacer file in there.
Now I removed all the icons there and only left the ones I want to use and I also edited the Icon.sh file and left out only the lines for the icons that I want to be replaced. Saved, signed, flashed, no changes. (Tried both CWM and stock Recovery)
Any tips on how to do this? All I want is the Touchwiz blue icon changed, the Phone icon and the SMS/MMS.
I try to change the various status bar icons like the downloading icon, wi-fi icon, but I always get an SHTF error on the pickup page. I think it's my ROM's fault. (Chobits v2). So I want to do it manually. My question is, how? Where can I find the icons that I need to change? :cyclops:
Install 7zip and then right-click on either SystemUI.apk or or framework-res.apk (I can't remember which one of the 2 has those icons), then extract. Browse the files in the extracted folder and see which one has them, modify/replace them, then open the apk file again with 7zip and go to the ldpi folder with the images, and just drag in the modded image files and close.
Atleast that's how I do it manually sometimes.
Where can I find the Wi-Fi signal icons?

Wifi, data and signal bar are located in drawable-ldpi folder inside your SystemUI.apk. Battery icon in framework-res.apk. the other, just try find them inside drawable-dpi folder of framework-res.apk and systemui.apk.

WTF!? I replaced the framework-res.apk on my phone with the one I customised and the phone acted up, everything kept force closing, I had to re-enter my account details, and everything was bad. How do I properly replace the framework-res.apk with a customised one?
Dude, you shouldnt replace the entire framework-res.apk, you should replace only the pngs that you need to change(status bar pngs), replacing it will get fcs
How do I replace only the files I need to? I grabbed the framework-res.apk I currently use and I customised the pictures. I was told I need adb to do this but I think adb replaces thw whole thing.
You can use winrar to replace them, replace the png with the modified png. First modify your framework-res.apk, replace them with the pngs you want, then make a flashable zip to replace it via CWM
If you want the icons from uot kitchen... use some other framework file from other Rom to uot... then apply whatever icons and options you want... submit the work to uot... now download the modified framework from uot... now open the modified framework in winrar... and original chobits in another winrar... now replace all the pngs or whatever pngs you want from modified framework to original chobits... that's all you're done...
ALL I GOT IS INSANE ! !

Hello to all, Today I found out and purchased the miraculous Jkay's mod, a pity not to have discovered before, it is really fantastic, congratulations to the author!
I have a question/request to ask to you, I have installed it on my galaxy s2 stock rom (XWLPF) and I like the classic interface of the stock, so no themes or colors of ICS, the problem is that inevitably changed the symbol of wifi in the status bar, let me explain better, the stok had the arrows that indicated by color the status of download/upload, with the mod or there are no arrows or are both white and are visible only in the case of up/down and I don't really like this...so the question/request is: can I change only the wifi symbol in the status bar and replace the old one? an how? Thank you very much, Bye
Yes, you can, by replacing png files in SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk.

can you explain me how I can do it? thanks!
Just pull these 2 apks to your desktop, open WinRAR, exctract drawable-hdpi from systemUI, search for wifi png files, edit with Photoshop, save and replace png files, copy new icons to drawable-hdpi, push drawable-hdpi to systemui with WinRAR, replace apk in your phone.
Somebody can confirm/correct the method?

So if I extract the original png from the apk in the restore .zip and i replace them in the apk in the framework's .zip and I install it from recovery I should have the standard icon?
Hi guys, this method doesn't work! the name and numbers of .png files in the original apk are different from the mod one.
Any other ideas? there are some icon packs that i can install from recovery?
thanks

Hey everyone, I've been searching for the folder that CM9 themes are saved in, like the ones you find in google play. I want to pull one from my phone onto my computer so I can use it as a template. I've searched all around the forums, but I couldn't find it.
The themes in CM9 are actually installed like regular APKs, because they are APKs.
They are located in your /data/app/ folder.
You can use 7zip/WinRAR to replace the .png/.9.png files to change certain things, but you will probably have to decompile it to change it much further than that and so you can read the XML files (requires decompiling) to understand what each .png image is doing and change certain parts of the theme that do not work off of .png files, but instead Hex color codes.
Here is a guide to making a template http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773189
Hope this helps!
