hi i have my atrix next to me stuck in a semi brick. this happened after i updated gingerblur to 4.5 it was at 3.xx i have many backups of my os but im having trouble getting cwm up and running, it would normally startup on its own.
in updating the rom i backed up all apps/data, then backed up the os with cwm.
i then "factory reset" the phone using cwm so no stability issues could happen
last i installed the 4.5 gingerblur, everything went smoothly until i restarted the phone with cwm???
now the phone loops all the way to showing mounting internal sd card and then shuts of (cuts power even the screen shows a fading image from the fast cut of) and then restart again. fast boot doesnt go past the red M symbol and starting rsd protocol support stays at (starting rsd protocol support).
any help would be much appreciated
First.. wrong section. This should probably be in Q&A or General.
Second, sounds like you probably need to restore a SBF. There's a thread on how to do that in this section.

RGR SBF are the stock roms right. thanks i will try this
Get into the fast boot menu using the vol down and power from here when the phone is off after a battery pull from there you can do option on factory reset from the menu selection android recovery (havnt done that one in a while so fuzzy after that) or you can use option two which would be a fresh sbf flash following instructions here (if you dont have a att phone there is a sbf thread use the search to find your correct version) with the 1.2.6 (or diff) then update to the latest build and follow instructions at the ginger blur site to install 4.5 or you can try this here all this was found in sticks and this question has been posted in search this is the development section your post should be in q/a section if you really think you coild find it with search.

had the same problem.
btw. if you clean the full dalvic cache, as the factory reset does, it causes the bootloop as I found out.
thanks all it works ^_^

Recently I got a Samsung Vibrant, I decided to root it and put a custom ROM Image on it. Bionix. I Didn't like Bionix and tried to restore from a Nandroidb backup.
Thats where everything went crazy.
After restoring back to my stock ROM all my apps kept crashing and asking to force close. So I ran nandroid again and tried to restore from a different back up, and it said Restore failed. This is where sweat began to drip off my face as the Vibrant Only boots up to the Samsung Vibrant splash screen and goes black.
So I used ODIN 1.3 With stock vibrant roms to restore it, and it's saying it's PASSED, It mounts and everything, but it still keeps going black after the Samsung boot screen.
I've tried this 6 times with the same results all with different stock Vibrant roms with the same results. I can still boot into clockwork mod recovery. How do I fix this problem?
Flash this through odin first then flash the original rom through odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740558
You have a Vibrant that has the larger NAND chip. You need to flash the "Froyo which doesn't brick" to repartition that internal card which has both shared space and /data. Follow directions in that thread and don't forget the "adb reboot". THEN, flash back to stock, and you will now have the right amount of space to accomodate the flashing of voodoo. Flashing Bionix packaged with a kernel repartitions your SD card back to stock sizes, whereas flashing the stock ROM leaves the partition tables intact.
EDIT: ^^ Beat me to it.
You guys are awesome, and this should fix the problem I'm having and it should boot fully into android? I don't care to downgrade as long as it boots all the way through into a fully usable phone and operating system.

Ok what u have to do is take the battery out to turn off ur phone then put the battery back in then hold valume buttons both of them while holding power button once the vibrant screen fades out let go of the power button only still hold the volume buttons until u get into recovery mode once u are in recovery mode delet data and cache and the phone will be working after that

What I would suggest is to flash the J12 update through odin and see if that works. If that works, after boot up, go back and flash original rom back with odin and see if that helps. You should never click on repartition through odin because the instruction does not advise to do that when flashing a rom through odin. Hopefully you did not mess up your phone.
You probably need to follow 'eugenes froyo that doesn't brick' method. Do that first then odin to stock. Ind this should be posted in general or q&a

1) This should be in "Q & A" or at the very least "General".
2) What ROM were you using that you are flashing back from?
3) Did you have any "lag fixes" installed?

Make sure your flashing the stock JDF because the JI6 doesn't contain all of the files, and if that doesn't work flash the "froyo that does not brick rom" by eugene that is in the bible then flash the stock JFD rom

When it say wipe data it doesn't wipe the built in memory it just wipes the partition where the OS is installed. Make sure you don't have voodoo lag fixed installed or it will hang up every time, I have used this method about 6 times to unbrick and have never had an issue. I followed the instructions to the letter and it has worked perfectly every time, but I would need more info on what rom you are coming from and what lag fix or what you have installed if all fails try the above mentioned fix with froyo that does brick.

launch your phone into recovery mode and delete everything-cache and all user data. i reinstalled the packages and then rebooted the system. its working without any problems now.
Fixed it!
OK, i ran into this exact issue yesterday and fixed it. This is what I did.
First flash Eugene's Froyo that doesn't brick with Odin.
Went through steps one and two. Don't worry about the sdk thing.
Now you should be in recovery mode. Pull the battery. Get back into download mode. Now flash, [ROM] OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images 7/29/10 (Tested/Working). This got me out of trouble. I hope it works for you.
installing the froyo that dosent brick resolved my issue!
thank you for all your responses and help

Anybody know where I can find this eugenes froyo that doesnt brick? Seems gino decided to remove the dl link for it n I checd his site but didnt c it, so im hoping theres like a mirror or maybe sum1 has it saved or something. Well anyway im able to flash the jk2froyo but it wont wipe data n then it wont let me dL any apps bcuz it says sorry not enough space.

Having problems with Odin, bah... trying to get my phone to work but always getting the "Data Write Failed" in red error.
EDIT: Haha nevermind got it to finally work after flashing Eugene's Froyo then stock JFD, guess I was using a different/wrong version of Eugene's Froyo haha damn I'm so relieved!!
I'm having a similar issue. Can someone give step by step instructions on how to fix this, please. I'm able to boot up, but then it give an error that says i have no space for apps. I check the application space and it just says 0.00 MB. Please help
hi everyone,
I am actually a long time custom ROM flasher started since Desire days, but registered recently because of this problem I have with the Tab 10.1 Wifi.
Despite me trying everything I can think of, I couldn't flash any other ROMs now, including GalaxyTask, Overcome, AOKP CM9, except the stock Honeycomb sans TouchWiz ROM, and of course PhantomTask. I am pretty sure PhantomTask is the last ROM I've flashed until this problem comes up.
I have made sure that I have done a full clean wipe every time before I flash any of them, wipe data -> cache -> dalvik cache, I even format /system partition, but still none of them works. They always get stuck at boot screen, unless the either one of the two ROMs I've mentioned, stock or PhantomTask.
I am sure that my downloads are complete too, as I've checked MD5 for each of them.
So I really don't know what to do now, any ideas?
I'd really want to test out AOKP
How much time are you giving it to boot up?
I've tried flashing CM9 yesterday, and I left it overnight to boot, it still didn't boot pass the logo, and the battery drained out.
I'll give it another try later
Which version of CWM are you using? If you aren't using one of these try updating:
ClockworkMod - 5.0.2.7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090289
Overcome Recovery v5.1.2.6
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348533
ok I've tried everything I can, and still can't get this to work.
Then finally I've decided to try to unroot and restore everything to stock.
I've followed each and every step of this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474971
After everything is done, Odin is showing the pass sign, according to the video its suppose to reboot into Android, but weirdly its stuck at a black screen. So I unplugged it from the PC rebooted it by holding down power button. But now its stuck at the boot logo, and won't proceed, its been more than 10 mins.
I am still able to boot into download mode, but when I boot into recovery wanting to do a factory reset, it shows a black screen and nothing else.
any idea what's going on?
try using the overcome recovery posted above. there's a link in the post that will take you to the over come site. look for the restore yet tab section and use Odin to restore. follow their instructions exactly an make sure it's relevant to your device first.
this has helped MANY people who had some of the strangest problem start fresh. if you want or need specific links just ask I'll go to my PC where its easier to show you.

COOL! Thanks to you for posting that it worked. Knowing we help is one reason we keep trying to help.
For me personally it's the self gratification of just knowing.
It's kinda selfish I know but it makes me feel good and keeps me trying to help even in the littlest ways my limited knowledge allows.

First of all, THANK you for making progress on freeing our phones!
I have read every thread I can find on this, but I cannot find an answer to my specific problem.
I will try to make this brief.
Now onto my problem.
I am on Gingerbread 2.3.4
I tried yesterday to go to CM7
I followed the directions posted here.
I get to step 12 on the " HowTo: Perform a bootstrap (or nandroid) backup and recovery of your Motorola Droid X2" where I am tapping recovery mode and the phone reboots - but when plugged into a wall charger, I get stuck at the dreaded dual core screen.
Since this happened, I have went into my ASR and selected wipe cache, wipe partition and also did the factory data reset while the phone was booted up.
Even in this state, which should be reset to factory if I understand this correctly - when I plug into a wall outlet, it still will not boot past the dual core screen.
Any ideas?
One question I have is, how do I wipe davilik cache?
Please help!!

I reinstalled dx2bsr.apk.
Ran it
installed recovery
set recovery mode
Then I am stuck. I am not sure what this means "Flash cm7 Then wipe all 3. Then while still in cwr flash ReRecoverydx2.cm7"
I am able to boot into the os now, but it still sticks at the dual core screen.
I'm sorry I a$$umed you were on Blur. No?
If ON cm7 you must install the cm7 (see the OP) bsr.apk.

to wipe dalvik cache you go into advanced and then scroll down to dalvik cache and then if you want wipe battery stats. That should work out of it all. If anything, sbf back to 2.3.4, root, and then retry with the OG bootstrap and see where that takes you
No matter what I do, various combinations of putting the stock bootstrap back in, it will not reboot while plugged in. It freezes on the dual core screen.
I have done a full wipe, it still will not boot while on AC.
Ideas?
You are trying to boot What Rom???
If you have already flashed cm7 you MUST allow it to boot ( do a stock recovery wipe if needed-stuck @ m) then install cm7bsr.apk.

are you running the bootstrap while plugged in? try untethering it, running BSR then plugging it in when your phone turns off.
What I want to accomplish is running CM7.
I am currently running 2.3.4.
This is so frustrating!
I am currently reading through the link in your sig, but that isn't clear enough either.
Sorry, I am not getting this, there is too much jargon I don't understand. LOL!

sorry, bro, are you booting into the bootstrap (BSR) while you're plugged into the wall outlet? If you are try to run BSR while not plugged into <the wall> and then once the phone shuts off [black screen] plug it in and then see if it boots into BSR.
You can boot to blur 234.
reinstall our old bsr and get it working.
This should get you to cwr.

Then flash cm7 and gapps then wipe all three than flash rerecovery.cm7
I would suggest SBFing back to stock 2.3.4 blur and then follow the steps in the OP for cm7. Seems your very setup is very screwed up at this point. Sometimes it is just easier and faster to do a quick SBF and start over. Just my two cents
Well through some combination of things, it looks like I am magically in CM7.
Thanks all!

Ok, so I've been a long time fascinate owner, using ROMs from way before.
However, now that I've upgraded to ICS builds, I keep on getting stuck at the bootloader screen, mine being at the moment CWMR 5.5.0.4.
This happened when I first upgraded to ICS and now I'm trying to upgrade my ROM from official AOKP build 35 to 36.
It's a good thing I made a nandroid first, but basically this time I used titanium backup to back up all my stuff, then flashed the new AOKP build 36. When it booted, it was missing few apps and user data was gone, meaning I had to re-log in to Google. Few of the apps then wouldn't work/FC, including titanium backup, rom manager, and gapps.
That's when I decided to restore the nandroid but it wouldn't boot into recovery using the power button so I used the 3-button salute. Now, I've heard that using this method can set you into boot-loops, but I didn't see any other way to get into recovery.
Do I have to ODIN again everytime this happens or is there a way to fix it / steps to ensure that this doesn't happen?
Thanks a lot, I think many people might be having this problem also, so whoever knows the solution, please help.
So, now I'm stuck on this blue CWMR screen with the nandroid restored, but when I reboot, it just goes right back to this blue screen.
As a note, when the phone boots, it shows the "samsung" logo, then for a split second a red thing flashes, which reminds me of the odin CWM, then goes to the blue screen.
You gotta start from scratch.. I went through the same thing..

OK, here's the fail list so far:
format /cache and restore
format dalvik cache and restore
wipe data/cache and restore
format /boot and restore
ODIN CMW and restore
ODIN CMW, factory reset and restore -- thought it worked but no apps and reinstalling makes the app FC..
The question still stands-- what's the best way to upgrade ROMS without losing apps and user data? Is titanium back up useless, or even harmful?
You need to use Odin, go back to GB, and start from scratch.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA
what is GB?
and what did I do wrong that made me:
1. lose apps and user data when I upgrade flashed build 36
and
2. get me stuck in the boot loop?
And 3rd-ly, if I do the 3finger recovery, is there a good chance that I'll get stuck in the bootloop without a way to fix except to ODIN?
OK Also another very frustrating thing is that when I do use power button to boot to recovery, it seems that 90% it just reboots. What's up with this. This is pretty much the primary problem which leads me to 3finger and then bootlock, then having to spend 15 mins trying to reset everything back.
Any solutions to this???!?

For MTD, you should not use 3-finger to get recovery otherwise bootlock. It is a known issue. For aokp build 36 powermenu is broken if I am not mistaken. I had to odin back to stock of EH3 and restart from scratch. Hope this help you out little bit.
follow section4 of my guide here in the general section. you can three finger on mtd based roms just not ICS roms(ice cream sandwich).

If you had read a few pages in the aokp thread you would know that until yesterday or today official aokp did not have reliably working recovery or any of the fixes or enhancements that are in glitched aokp.
Steve has said the the official builds are now up to date as of the latest build so your issues should be solved at this point. All of this could have easily been avoided however.
