[Q] Is there any way to remove Swype? - HTC EVO 3D

I wish to install a newer version of Swype but can't due to the preinstalled version. Any way to remove it?

I don't even think swype recognizes the 3vo as a compatible device yet? At least when I checked on Wednesday it wasn't.
Also, the HTC trace keyboard is pretty amazing.
BANG! from my shooter...

Not without root I think.

Last paragraph. Requires root, though.

Has anyone had success with this? using this method I was able to get the new version of swype until reboot at which point the old version took over again. I understand that files are rewritten around boot time so i also attempted to use pm disable on swype to see if that would make way for the beta version but this resulted in a hang during swype setup at the licensing part. any success stories yet?

abrabren reported he managed to get it to work with temp root, so my guess is we'll have to wait for perm root for it to stick.

Updating Embedded Swype
SORRY IN ADVANCE, BUT I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT BECAUSE I AM A NEW USER, I CANNOT INCLUDE LINKS IN MY POST SO HAPPY GOOGLING TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN REPLACING THEIR SWYPE.
You can now replace the garbage embedded Swype with the hot new Swype Beta 3.0 with a little help from the Fre3vo temp root method.
To start, I highly recommend having all programs you will need installed on your Evo 3d. Start by downloading Titanium Backup as well as the most current version of the Swype Installer. Install both of these programs, BUT DO NOT LAUNCH THEM WITHOUT THE TEMP ROOT.
Next I would go into the keyboard settings and make sure that you do not have Swype set as your selected keyboard.
The next step is to use the Fre3vo temp root method to get single time root access.
As soon as you have achieved your temp root, immediately load into Titanium Backup. Doing this should prompt you for Super User permissions. Click "Allow" and you should have access to backup and modify your programs.
Move down the program list to Swype. Do not confuse Swype Installer with Swype. You can choose to backup Swype if you want, but I would not say it is all that important. On Swype select "Uninstall Program" to fully remove the embedded version of Swype.
Now close Titanium Backup and go right to the Swype Installer and follow the install instructions.
If all went well you should now have the Swype Beta 3.0, which will make you a very happy camper.
WHILE THE TEMP ROOT IS NOT STICKY THIS CHANGE IS. WHEN YOU RESTART YOUR PHONE YOU WILL STILL HAVE THE MOST CURRENT VERSION OF SWYPE.
Happy Swyping.

Swype: Parsing could not be installed

This is the first time i've EVER and i will say EVER encountered this issue (for me of course)
I deleted swype.apk from system/app
deleted libswypecore.so from system/lib
rebooted (like 3 times)
and when i click on swype installer, login, and choose SWYPE FULL to install
after a while it says "parsing error not installed " something in that area.
What can i do to make it actually work?
Currently i have no swype, and without swype, my life is ruined.
a bad download, swype tweeted they uploaded the incorrect full version.
Also, why in the world are you using the full version? You only speak/need English. The lite version should work no problem.

Could it have been a bad download? Have you gone to their web site for the beta? I think they have openings

thanks for the tip, but its not working for the english/spanish one either.
and i just found out that the FULL version meant like.. all languages lol.
I thought full was like... the whole swype system, while beta was parts of it.
i'm so dumb
Anyways, are you saying that they tweeted neither of the swype *full AND english/spanish* don't work?

so you tired the new updated fixed version? What rom are you using? Couldn't you put swype in that build and then flash it? Just trying to think outside the box is all.
Yes, and i'm using that Sweet Honey one.
Uhm, okay so i did TRY to "think outside the box"
I had a previous version of swype i kept on my SD Card.
I installed that.
Went to Swype Installer.
It recognized the swype version
i logged in.
Then it said "registration failed"
I have the swype keyboard, but no swype gestures or library.
I request that someone goes to system/lib/
and finds libswypecore.so
copies theirs, and gives it to me, so i can use it.
It would be VERY appreciated!
You do realize any tie to swype needs to be removed, then reboot... You can't install swype beta when you already have swype.
Correct.
As far as i know, and this has worked before...
Removing the apk from system/app
and the lib file from system/lib
and rebooting
removes swype.

Go to root explorer then the root directory. Search swype, delete all references. Reboot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, install the beta.
Edit: not the sd card, just the system files.

Turns out me not uninstalling swype installer was the problem :O
Must have had some corrupt data. Usually it will auto update if it's an older version that may cause a problem.
The beta doesn't auto update, you have to open the installer.
The installer I meant..when you open it the installer will update to the latest version then you can check for swype updates.
I had the same issue. Make sure you reboot your phone after you remove the files, then make sure you use the stock browser to download the installer, don't use skyfire or opera or any of those. I had the same issue when i was using skyfire. used the google browser and it worked fine. The website says not to use certain browsers or it won't work.

Swype

Any know where can get the beta the installer won't work
If you don't have an Evo3d well...
Did u sign up for it.

Ya long time ago ive successfully installed it on my og thru the swype installer before it was officially released
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
You have to use root explorer and remove swype from system/app then libswype from system/lib. After that installer works fine, but this version of swype is super buggy on our phone.
Thanks , I can't even log in the installer to download I can at there site just fine ohwell . I know I would have to install system app , was hoping someone had a link or apk
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Lol, me thinks you're missing some punctuation there
Anyway, What you could do is get root, and then I believe just uninstall Swype from Manage Applications.
Then Swype's Installer should work. I'm rather sure that's what I did last time. Either that or manually removed the files via adb.

I used ES File Explorer to mount system and remove the lib and app. I then installed the beta. It worked great.
I have been accidentally hitting the spanish button a lot with version 2. Version 3 beta lets you disable the spanish language to prevent that. Awesome. Thanks.

I used Titanium Back Up to remove Swype and then used Astro to install and launch the beta installer that I placed on my SD card. (Made sure to back up the original swype just in case).

New version of Swype Available - Automatic Updates!

http://beta.swype.com/
Automatic Updates have finally arrived! Once installed, this latest version of Swype will let you install updates on-the-fly via Swype Connect.
* When an update is ready, you'll receive an Android Notification informing you that an upgrade is available
* Install the update right through the Swype Settings window
* Your user dictionary and settings will automatically be saved during the update!
Version is 3.26. Just curious: I forgot to note what version of Swype came pre-installed on the phone. Does anyone know what it is? This is my first time updating Swype. The layout is much different.
3.23 was the version on my device but i updated it to 3.25 which included gestures for cut, copy, and paste.

You're not allowed to distribute Swype on XDA, other than the one that comes with the phone.

Ah, okay.
Seems odd, since it's not warez. It comes preinstalled, and is also available for free through their website for those who don't have it preinstalled. I just didn't know how to update it since I do already have it preinstalled.
On my Captivate I had awful problems caused by uninstalling the preinstalled version, so I could use the Swype installer, and was hoping to avoid that this time.
Thanks anyway.

EDIT: Also, this:
When trying to uninstall Swype through Application Settings the only reason why you would be unable to select the uninstall button is that you're attempting to uninstall the production version of Swype. This either came PreLoaded with your device, or your Carrier included it in an OTA update. Swype production can not be uninstalled.
If this is the case and Swype is not appearing as your input method, simply go to any application that supports text entry (such as SMS or Email), long-press on any text box (the place where text would appear as you type), choose Input Method in the popup, and select Swype from the list of available choices.
IF YOU ARE RECEIVING CRASHES AFTER AN OTA SYSTEM UPDATE: Because Swype Beta is incompatible with Swype Production and can not be installed over top you will need to find a duplicate Swype entry in your Application Settings (The entry for Swype Beta) and uninstall that. Swype will force close when trying to be used until Swype Beta is uninstalled.
If you have a production device and would still like to test the Beta for us the only way we can support you is if you install another ROM that does not come with Swype PreLoaded.
If you would still like to try to uninstall Swype on a production devices you will need to delete or rename /system/app/Swype.apk and /system/lib/libSwypecore.so before installing the Beta. I will stress that this is NOT SUPPORTED in anyway. Some firmware has other framework customizations by the carrier that will cause further complications if these files are removed. If you try to uninstall Swype from a production device and break it the only advice we can give you is to seek instructions on how to reload your device with the stock rom.

Hi:
Yes, I was aware of that. I am actually a very good reader
That statement is actually not entirely true though.
On the Captivate (haven't tried on the new phone) you had to follow steps found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9160980&postcount=1
I actually worked perfectly.
My problem was caused by not having done enough research prior to deleting the original, so I didn't at first know to use root explorer to delete the appropriate file.
I am a bit of a worry wart, and almost had a heart attack prior to finding that post, because I thought I was going to have to live without swype lol.
Yea i removed the stock swype.apk.
installed from the beta.swype.com
clean rebooted. now everytime i swype in the word suggestion field it just pops up with "please try again". I can't swype anything.
anyone know how to fix this or things to try?
Have you uninstalled the Swype keyboard and the Swype installer and tried again?

Whoops, didn't realize that. Hmmm...I guess it's too late for me as I already uninstalled Swype and installed the version from their website. It works great so far. Is it saying that I will encounter issues when Samsung pushes out official updates for the phone?

That warning only applies to people who have not rooted and have a pre-installed version of Swype, if you have not rooted you can't remove system apps and will not be able to install the latest beta and have it work.
But for anyone who has rooted you can remove the pre-installed Swype and then install the latest beta directly from their website. It will not cause any problems.

[Q] How to get Swype Beta

All,
I really want to get the new Swype Beta with Dragon Speak on my MoPho. I an rooted and tried freezing the stock swype and DLing Beta from Swype. No luck. Ideas? Thanks!
Before doing this I strongly recommend you to back up these files
Using ROOT Explorer
Browse to "/system/app/" back up and then Delete "Swype.apk"
Browse to "/system/lib" back up and then Delete "libswypecore.so"
Reboot.
Then now install the swype installer and install swype.
Good luck!!
Yes, that's what I do every time I run the sbf again to get 4g back. Works like a charm. I have the swype installer backed up on titanium. no problems runnig it after the above steps.
Can confirm what kbrn has posted.. Basically the same method I had done.. Basically need to delete the stock Swype file to allow the installer to work..
It worked! Swype Beta with Dragon rocks. Thanks!

Can;t update B&N Apps after Root

Has anyone had trouble using the 'check for updates' feature on the stock B&N App Library? I have a couple of apps that were purchasedfrom B&N and newer versions are available, but I can't get the updates after rooting. I have tried archiving the apps and reinstalling, but the old version gets reinstalled, not the new version. Any ideas on how to get B&N app updates?
Thanks, William
is it roots fault?
If the apps are really worth it to you, you could always use the acclaim.update method to restore before root and then archive the update apps. Then, when you re-root make sure you don't debloat any of the Nook software (if you debloated the first time). Good luck, see if it works.

I used part of your suggestion and found a work around solution. There is no need to unroot the Nook. Simply archive the apps (which uninstalls them) then go back to the B&N app store and un-archive the same apps....it downloads the latest version and installs it. There is one odd thing I discovered.....if you have set a "Password for Purchases" you will have to remove it before it will download the new version.
Thanks for the archive suggestion.
